RE: Jerky Mouse

2012-06-03 Thread Lorenzo Bordoni
Hello to the Group,

I might be barking up the wrong tree (again) but wasn't there a run of MacPros
that had the incorrect Bluetooth antenna fitted to the board? Symptoms were
very-poor range because the wireless signal could not penetrate the Pro's cage.

Not everyone uses a Bluetooth peripheral so this went under the radar.

Worth Googling further and Good Luck, L

If you still experience problems:

Distance certainly could cause jerkyness, as it has a spasmodic connection.
Bluetooth does not have a long distance reception.
Does it stop being jerky if you move the mouse closer?

Forums have also suggested WiFi interference but surely Apple would have
 thought of that one??

Are you using a 5GHz Wireless Network or a 2.5GHz wireless network?

If you have installed any mouse add-on, uninstall it, especially USB
overdrive (uninstall not just remove the preference panel).

Check a few other things you could try changing and then test to see if it
 helps.

 1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple () menu, then choose Mouse
 from the View menu.
Set the Tracking slider to adjust how fast the pointer moves as you move
 the mouse.

 2. Try using a different surface to see if the tracking improves.

 3. Turn the mouse over and inspect the sensor window.
Use compressed air to gently clean the sensor window if dust or debris is
 present.

Bandwidth intensive devices could also affect tracking.

Hi Lorenzo,

You are correct, Apple did release some early MacPros with
mislabeling/miswiring problem.
What happened was two wires got mislabeled. This didn’t happen when the
Bluetooth module was added to the computer, but during the actual assembly of
the Mac Pro.

The Bluetooth module is a small chip placed on the motherboard, and it has to
be connected to a tiny wire that runs to the Bluetooth antenna.

But, I don't think that is the problem with the MacPro Chris has, because the
bad bluetooth connection has only happened lately, not from purchase time. If
Chris is concerned that it could be the wiring, he could take it to a
technician and have it checked.
Or, I do have a document showing how to fix the wiring.

Cheers,
Ronni

I have read dozens of forums to try and work out what is wrong.

I have switched off all other Bluetooth devices and have changes mouse mats
many times.

I have read that many people are experiencing this problem. Any solutions?

I had seen a wireless mouse that was slightly jerky to a MacPro that was a bit

So that's another thing to check as well….
Resetting SMC can also help with Bluetooth settings as well, so that's worth a

Re: Jerky Mouse

2012-06-01 Thread Chris Griffiths
Ok…

10.7.4

2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 14Gb Ram MacPro 4 1Tb harddrives internal.
1Tb external for backing up (this is wired, not wireless)

24inch NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB graphics

Mouse has been like this for months. Can't remember when it started. It goes
from working perfectly to lagging when moving, slightly jerky. Just barely
perceptible sometimes but extremely annoying when you have to do a very fine
photoshop retouch or anything fine.

Forums have suggested that it could happen when there is a lot of processing
happening but this doesn't seem to make sense to me.

Daniels suggestion that it is too far away makes more sense but it can't be
more than a metre. And anyhow, how come it is fine and then changes?

I have turned off any other bluetooth.

Forums have also suggested WiFi interference but surely Apple would have
thought of that one??

I can live with it but just thought I'd give you guys a challenge ;)

Thanks heaps

Re: Jerky Mouse

2012-06-01 Thread Ronda Brown
Thanks for more information Chris.

Daniels suggestion that it is too far away makes more sense but it can't be
more than a metre. And anyhow, how come it is fine and then changes?

Distance certainly could cause jerkyness, as it has a spasmodic connection.
Bluetooth does not have a long distance reception.
Does it stop being jerky if you move the mouse closer?

Forums have also suggested WiFi interference but surely Apple would have
 thought of that one??

Are you using a 5GHz Wireless Network or a 2.5GHz wireless network?

If you have installed any mouse add-on, uninstall it, especially USB overdrive
(uninstall not just remove the preference panel).

Check a few other things you could try changing and then test to see if it
helps.

1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple () menu, then choose Mouse from
the View menu.

Cheers,
Ronni

2012-06-01 Thread Chris Griffiths
I'm using a Belkin N300 300Mbps

I have my iphone between the MacPro and the mouse.

I use a 6MHz phone but only just bought it.

You see, I can't even reply to your testing as it is working perfectly again!!

Next time it jerks I will move it closer.

Tried changing mouse mats etc no difference. I think it is software related.

When did the Magic Mouse start the jerkyness ... after installing a add-on
 or software?

 Cheers,
 Ronni

Ok, have deleted the file. Have reset the SMC. And so far so good. Seems
to be working a lot better. So somewhere in all the actions was the
solution, I think. I'll see if it lasts. Thanks heaps!!

2012-06-01 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Chris,

I have my iphone between the MacPro and the mouse.

Can you put the iPhone behind the Magic Mouse, so the Magic Mouse is first in
range?

Cheers,
Ronni

Yes, I think it is distance. It happened again and I moved it closer and it
 stopped.

Is there any way around not moving all my equipment?

 Thanks for more information Chris.

Daniels suggestion that it is too far away makes more sense but it can't be
more than a metre. And anyhow, how come it is fine and then changes?

Distance certainly could cause jerkyness, as it has a spasmodic connection.
Bluetooth does not have a long distance reception.
Does it stop being jerky if you move the mouse closer?

Forums have also suggested WiFi interference but surely Apple would have
 thought of that one??

Are you using a 5GHz Wireless Network or a 2.5GHz wireless network?

If you have installed any mouse add-on, uninstall it, especially USB
overdrive (uninstall not just remove the preference panel).

Check a few other things you could try changing and then test to see if it
 helps.

 1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple () menu, then choose Mouse from
 the View menu.

 Cheers,
 Ronni

Mouse has been like this for months. Can't remember when it started. It
goes from working perfectly to lagging when moving, slightly jerky. Just
barely perceptible sometimes but extremely annoying when you have to do a
very fine photoshop retouch or anything fine.

Forums have suggested that it could happen when there is a lot of
processing happening but this doesn't seem to make sense to me.

I have turned off any other bluetooth.

I can live with it but just thought I'd give you guys a challenge ;)
