MayberryGossipClub

2006-04-13 Thread Mary Giesbrecht
Wow!!! What a fabulous idea that Mayberry Gossip Club site is! Thanks
Allan, for initiating that!! I finally checked it out today, and was
totally impressed!! I have been longing for something like that, to
have at my fingertips while I'm watching a certain episode for the
25th time... those Odd Facts Known By Few just make it almost like
a treasure hunt when watching the episodes!

Thank you so much - to everyone who contributed to that site so far!
I'm very excited to check on it regularly... and who knows... I might
even notice something some day... and contribute to it myself!!

Thanks for making each episode exciting, all over again! So grateful
for all of you!

Mary, from Canada

About Episode One

2006-04-13 Thread MarTim1219
I also myself have wondered about that pick-up truck. My theory is that it
must have belonged to someone else because Opie was still in bed and Aunt Bee
did not want to wake him. And surely Andy would not have left Opie at home
alone.

2006-04-13 Thread jkoontz
The movie When I Find The Ocean featuring George Lindsey has a
website where you can view the trailer.

http://www.cypressmoonproduction.com/php/main.php

The site has numerous reviews and other features. The movie was shown
at George's Film Festival - anyone have a firsthand review?

Liberry

2006-04-13 Thread Cheryl Langille
Wasn't the library mentioned in one of the episodes where there is a
dance? Andy is explaining to somebody that the woman in the band is the
mother of the band leader (Carl Benson maybe?) and she now plays full
time with the band except for Thursday nights when she works at the
library. Some of you who have the uncut DVD's could probably answer that.

Re: 40 acre lot Mayberry

2006-04-13 Thread rhadorn2
Dale, I share your feelings about this photo. I have spent a lot of time just
looking at it and walking down Main St. in Mayberry. For me, it kind of makes
Mayberry a reality.
If anyone hasn't seen this photo or would like to, Joel Rasmussen sells a
really nice annotated copy along with some other cool Mayberry stuff on his
website at
http://www.angelfire.com/biz/Mayberry/
And Dale, I've been to the location where 40 Acres was. It is of course been
replaced by office buildings but most of the surrounding buildings that were
there in the 60's and visible in the photo are still there. I have stood in the
place where the Courthouse once was--What a thrill!

Happy Holiday

2006-04-13 Thread Kim
I hope everyone has a happy and blessed Easter and Good Friday. I'll be
catching up on my digest reading Monday. Can't you picture the Easter Pagent
at All Souls Church? Barney would be trying to grow out a beard in order to
play on of the disciples, but Goober would be chosen because (as Floyd pointed
out) he grows a nice beard.

Howard his mother

2006-04-13 Thread Marie
Todays episode reminds me. In the early colour episodes Howard's mother
was very protective and thanks to Andy Goober she gradually let him go.

However my question is this: Why did she virtually disappear? Howard
went off to the Caribbean w/nary a mention of Mrs. Sprague. Surely, she
would have been there to see him off.

Did Mabel Anderson get another job? This surely was before her turn as
Samantha's mother in law on /Bewitched/.

I see where she's died of Alzheimer's. Another good actress gone too
soon (she was just 80 at her death)

What Would Barney Do

2006-04-13 Thread bcq145
From the What Would Barney Do Files comes the following report:
Eighty-two year old Mayvis Coyle began shuffling across Foothill Blvd. with her
cane when the light was green, but she was unable to make it to the other side
before the light turned red.
A motorcycle officer who ticketed her said she was obstructing traffic and
causing
a danger to others.
Coyle said, I think it's completely outrageous... like I don't know what I'm
doing.
Officer Zaboski said police are cracking down on people who improperly cross
streets because pedestrian accidents are above normal and he ticketed the
elderly
woman $114.00. That'll teach her.
.
Some officers have speculated that if you give them an inch today, tomorrow they
will take a foot; give them a foot tomorrow, and the next day they will want a
yard; when will it ever end? And if you let an 82 year old woman off today,
tomorrow a 76 year old man will want to be let off; let a 76 year old man off
tomorrow and the next day some punk kid will be jay walking; when will it end?
So, the Officer Zaboski was right. Just because Mrs. Coyle is 82 years old and
using a cane is no excuse. He just thought, What would Barney do? and he
knew exactly what Barney did with Emma. No mercy.

Lydia, Where are those Boy Scouts when you need them?

Green River and Andy Bloopers

2006-04-13 Thread Joseph R. McSparin
I was in Pinedale, Wyoming this week for my wife's brother's wedding we
flew into Salt Lake and then drove from there to Pinedale. I stopped
off at an exit to get gas and not realizing it, found myself in the town
of Green River, Wyoming. Home of the Green river ordinance. I brought
my TAGS episodes to watch on my laptop on the trip and I noticed that on
Season 1 disc 4 one of the episodes I can't remember now which one. But
one of them on that disc had a shot of Andy closing the door to the
Sheriff's office. Well he didn't get the door closed all the way the
first time and so he went to finish closing it. However before he did
you can see a hand reach from the other side of the door and close it
for him. Like one of the stage crew thought he would help out and it
got caught on tape. My wife says I definitely watch the show too much
if I am now noticing these things. I was curious though if anyone else
has noticed little goofs like that in any episodes that they would like
to share.

The Low-Down on Lydia's Love Live

2006-04-13 Thread bcq145
I was over at the Dime Store buying some buttons and bows for my Easter dress
when the Digest came in and I read where I was accused of cheating on Goober.
Oh, to be falsely accused of immorality! The pain of it all! The suffering.
And I
who has suffered so much already! Why me, Lord, why, why, why?

First, I was rejected by Andy. Maybe it was because I wasn't a native of
Ancient
Greece and he liked girls with fancier backgrounds, and there I was just plain
ole
Lydia from Waynesboro. Or maybe it had to do with my dislike of the guitar. Who
knows. That man shorely is picky is all I know about it.

Then Goober comes along and I go out of my way to please that one, and I
thought things were going along pretty fine and all of a sudden he just stops
showing up. No reason given. Next thing I know Miss Flora is in the picture
and he is turning to computer dating. And that ain't right!
Why? Maybe I didn't keep enough pretzels in the house (they lay heavy on my
chest). I know he was always wanting me to play cards and I was raised to
reject
all forms of gambling. Maybe our cultures were just too different. I don't
know.
All I know is we were having a good time and poof--good bye and good luck,
Lydia.
Goober is a nice boy, real helpful about my car. A good conversationalist, too.
And I love to talk; I hate to chit-chat, but I love ordinary conversation.
Can't we all just sit around and do ordinary talk?

Maybe I got car sick just one time too many. A thing like that can put a
damper on
a relationship. You think so? Like Flora never got sick? Like scientist girl
never had the herpes from the sun? Oh, yeah.

Lydia, My only fault was I tried too hard to please people.
