Re: National potatoe week

2007-03-20 Thread blueridgebiker
About Roanoke Island, I think that is the Lost Colony.
They have not been found yet. I guess cause Barney was not on the case.
The first established sucessful colony was Jamestown.
It is on the Va state tag. 400 th Anniversry, Jamestown 1607-2007.
Yes NC has Roanoke Island now.
Maybe Va thought they would loose it too.
Soem people think the people moved inland to find food and shelter and could
have intermarried with the indians.
No sign of them was recovered. It remains a mystery.

Mayberry Moments

2007-03-20 Thread Anita Carpenter
Hey Danny, I was in Wilmington several years ago and found it to be a lovely
place. I had some dear friends that lived there back in the 80's and visited
them on a couple of occasions. Your story about being at work and seeing the
plate glass window brought a big smile to my face, as Ernest T. is one of mine
and my husbands favorite Mayberry citizens. Isn't it wonderful how we can have
a Mayberry Moment when we least expect it!

Wallys

2007-03-20 Thread wade c
Hey Mike Peacock
I am a big fan of wallys, I would like to see the link you posted before about
old garages.
I must have missed it before.
I even built my garage to resemble wallys, I'm not finished yet and i need
more relics outside to complete the look but thats my plan.
My only problem was in building the garage that i couldn't get a big picture
window like his and had to settle with a smaller one.
But the door and window is in the right location.
Email me if you want to talk more about wallys.

Garbage disposal

2007-03-20 Thread Tim Threlkeld
In the episode where Aunt Bea won the prizes on the game show, I seem to
remember one of the only prizes she kept was the garbage disposal. However, in
the Lost Pin episode, I remember she used the insurance money to get a new
garbage disposal since Andy reminded her that she had to give back the one she
won. Am I right or wrong|?

Hi Gang,
My oil change center (plus another in town) use the pit method for oil
changing. Only difference is back then they didn't have Penzoil :)
Glad to see some discussion about Wally's. A few weeks ago I posted
about the older gas stations like Wally's and a link to a site full of pics
that brought back memories hopefully to a few. No one commented so I
assumed there was no interest, but even so, actions speak louder than words,

RIGHT?
You may recall the interior bay of Wally's shown in the episode where
the Gomer allowed the Hanson brothers to park their car in there while Wally

was gone, one stayed hidden in the trunk and robbed the place at nite. A
regular Trojan horse!

Where Do You Suppose That Came From?

2007-03-20 Thread bcq145
The following is a true Mayberry Moment. Hope you enjoy reading about it half
as much as I enjoyed living it.

Little four-year old red haired boy was propped up in bed watching a favorite
movie with a tray of chicken, fries, corn and tea on his lap, and me right
beside him. Every now and then I would hear, Corn, and I (who willingly
spoils this little red-haired boy beyond belief) would feed him a spoon of
corn; next, the command, Chicken, would be heard, and
the appropriate food would be placed in Mr. John Clay's mouth. Then, Tea,
and so on and so on, until finally
I asked myself, where did this little Opie-look-alike come up with this? Now
this little guy has been receiving TAGS since the womb.
Do you think that Mayberry can be genetic? Maybe that explains the red hair.
His dark-haired daddy sure has been asking a lot of questions! lol (granddaddy
is a red-head)

Laura Lee Hobbs, Dime Store Clerk and Gold Truck Watcher Extraordinaire--and no
red hair on our side of the
family, but we wouldn't change a lock of hair on our little boy's head for the
world.

He sure is nicely mannerized.

A MAYBERRY MOMENT

2007-03-20 Thread DONNA AND DAN GRADY
Just wanted to share a Mayberry Moment I had the other day at work. Hope it
will bring a smile to your face, as it did to me.

Picture this. I work at the local Home Depot in Wilmington, NC, and while
copying a key at the key machine for a customer, I looked up and, lo and
behold, there were two men walking down the main aisle of the Home Depot
carrying a big plate glass window to the cash register to pay for it.

Well now, my first thought was...I sure haven't seen Ernest T hanging around
with a sack full of rocks to throw at that window. But you never know. He's
real good at hiding behind the stacks of generators and table saws. Heck, he
might even be hanging from the overhead racking and might leap down right in
front of that plate glass window. But fortunately, the two men got to the cash
register safely and paid for their window. I even watched them from a distance
as they left the store and safely loaded the window in the back of their pickup
truck.

And with not nary a single rock thrown at them.

I guess they were just plain lucky that Ernest T was no where to be found.

But you know what? I think maybe they were even luckier that ol' Barn wasn't
anywhere nearby, waving his gun all around, trying to protect that ol' window.

  Smile,

  DANNY in Wilmington

Go ahead now, Opie, give her some good.
