Skoal

2007-07-30 Thread Janet Anderson
Why does Otis say Skoal as Mayor Stoner gets...well, stoned (on alcohol,
that is!)?

Skoal is a Scandinavian word used as a toast when drinking, similar to
saying, To your health or some such thing.

Leon's parents

2007-07-30 Thread Janet Anderson
OK...this is preying on my mind. Leon ( ron howard's real life brother ), is
often seeing roaming around Mayberry eating his sandwich. Where are his
parents?

Perhaps Leon's parents operate one of the downtown businesses. (Maybe the
diner or snack shop, which would explain their ability to keep Leon supplied
with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.) Because they are busy running the
business and because Mayberry is a safe place to let your kids run around, they
allow him to stroll up and down Main Street to give him something to do.
That's where we usually see him.

What I'm wondering is, what are your official counter-measures in the

I like ol Ben, but watch him in church the next time we sing, Leaning

Leon's Wanderings

2007-07-30 Thread Ken Anderson
Growing up in a small town I can identify with Leon. I had virtually no
restrictions as to where I could go in our town. I would say the same thing
was true for most of my friends. We were free to wander around town
exploring all the fascinating things a young boy's curiosity opened. I
think most of the people in town knew who I was. I would go into the drug
store and grocery store and get a five cent cone and we would take our wagon
down to the dump to look for treasures. We often played in Rau's Woods and
fished at the old Mill Pond. I doubt if my parents knew where I was most
times, but they knew that wherever I was someone was watching out for me.
Night time was especially a time of adventure and we would often find
ourselves at the cemetery or down by the railroad tracks playing in the
boxcars. We were not neglected kids at all, just fortunate kids who grew up
in a quiet little town where everyone was a neighbor or friend. A siren did
blow at nine o'clock which indicated it was time to head for home. Friday
nights meant a free movie shown on the feedstore wall. Wading in the creeks
usually meant a few bloodsuckers on our feet, but that was all just part of
the adventure.

If you watched Leave it to Beaver you would see Beaver wandering all over
town with his friend Larry and his parents very seldom were concerned. Even
getting home an hour late after school didn't alarm anyone.

I am so thankful that I grew up when I did. The memories I have are so
precious and I experienced so many great things that today's kids will never
experience. I wouldn't trade my old rusty bike and AM radio for all the
IPods, Game Boys, Computers, or Video Games in the world.

Otis' Skoal

2007-07-30 Thread Karen Southwell
Hi
I don't think it's spelled that-a-way, but I don't know how to spell it
either. It's the Russian (I think) version of 'bottoms up', cheers, here's
mud in your eye, etc.

HI all

2007-07-30 Thread Erin Johnston
Hi fellow mayberrians,

My computer had a bad virus and now I'm back with a new computer.

Thank you for the warnings on buying dvds from other companies . I guess, not
everyone is as nice or honest as our group is.

Little Leon walking around w/ a sandwhich looking as cute as could be... w/o
parents. I'd like to think it was ok for him to walk around without a care in
the world in a heavenly location like Mayberry. Instead of lack of being
watched maybe knowing everyone was keeping an eye on him rather then walking
all about alone. That has to make everyone smile..knowing he had 45 caregivers
then zero.

What would ol man flint say?
  Erin, Mayberry's best crossing guard

Maybe they know the guy who hired Aunt Bee at the print shop. Sounds like
those counterfeiters are keeping up with technology! I guess they had to do
something after they got out of jail after getting nailed by Andy and
Warren.

Or maybe they pulled the old switcheroo like Andy and Barney in the Pickle
episode.
