Brother I got some Answers Curt and Keith
Curt I happen to. Tape If I had A million Sunday s marathon along with 10 other episodes.I got a bombshell I discovered upon your question was it Barney or Floyd calling out Fred.It was Don Knotts.I just played it back 5 times but my goodness leave it to the old professor from Col Tims TV show to explain why you thought it was Floyd s voice.Attention Mayberryians take note of this episode for the actors overdrama(izing and screeching out in great exaggeration lines.Barney is screeching at top of his lungs Fred Fred Fred. And note Floyd to Barney his tambor in his voice Barney doesn't owe him for a wish broom. Saying 8 of them or 35 cents.or poker you .there's no charge for a wish broom alone is brilliantly exaggerated to great effect and folks if this doesn't convince you note Andy in the jailhouse to Barney almost screeching with great effect like never before the line What are you doin with a gun in your pance? Or Isn't it a little hard to get at? Clearly the plot of this great episode was so far fetched brilliantly silly that our Mayberry actors played certain scenes to the hilt by exaggerating gestures and milking a given line. This is further evidence of great acting on this classic series.Barney always exaggerated at times certain lines to great effect but he and our Mayberry cohorts in this episode earned their pay here.as Floyd said Did you fall into some money.by way Fred Goss was mentioned in this episode 4 yrs after we last saw him. Finally Keith I got 2 actors who's first name was used in their characters name.Fred Sherman as Fred Goss and I believe my good friend Burt Mustin aka Judd and I think Burt on one ocassion.- aim to please.was I right Curt and Keith?my pleasure.God Bless all of you.Tom Kessel Col.Tims protege reject Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Aunt Bee Learns To Drive
Another interesting burning question and observation as I watch the 6 hour marathon of TAGS on Tvland today. Why is it in Aunt Bee Learns to Drive there is a dirt road in front of the Andy Home.wasn't it always paved like elsewhere or venturing a guess maybe its easy to dig up the road to make Aunt Bees double driving ' I love that hat for the double like I like Mr Schwamps Toupee' inept driving more believable.well its possible my guess is possible because Warner Bros always wet down their streets in those gangster films from 30s to make cars skid easier when firing at each other. Anyone care to debate this dirt road explanation? If I see anymore fun insights of the marathon ill return. Saw Wyatt Earp with Pat Hingle.what a classy episode and so funny.Floyd is brilliant getting a thrill for a poster Pat gave him. The child in Floyd Lawson alone is worth viewing this landmark series.Tom Kessel Col.Tims Protege Reject Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Tvland Let Floyd Lawson Speak
On my 2nd day Tvland Marathon I see again Tvland deleted a great scene moments ago in Barney Runs For Sheriff. With Floyd at the rostrum at the debate between Andy and Barney , Floyds classic line of Andy is really the best candidate and not Barney was entirely deleted for commericals.I'm sick to my stomach. If its not Otis Climbing down the ladder from Aunt Bee the Warden to that delight jingle its now Floyds classic zingers at Barney.Tvland get a life. Again why in Aunt Bee Learns to Drive is the road in front of the Taylor home suddenly a dirt rd so maybe its easier for Aunt Bee to drive poorly?you tell me.God bless.Tom Kessel Col.Tims Protege Reject Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Tom Kessel thinks Howard did have bare feet
I am replying to Gritton Joe asking if Howard wore at any times just bare feet.I could be wrong when I tell Mr Schwamps No One fan that I think he was in bare feet when he bought new shorts and stood outside on the beach arms up high as if to stretch only to look down in embarrassement towards the price tag still stuck to his waistband.the camera pans to his bare feet all the way down.I could be wrong Joe .no ones perfect but that's the image that sticks in my mind when poor Howard feels embarrassed. Thanks Joe.Tom Kessel Col Tims protege reject. Robert I already sent you a personal thanks but I must tell all fans of TAGS how deeply touched and moved I am by your kind words and I salute you for acknowleging at long last my hard earn efforts trying in vain to tell fans of my personal recollections of performers ftom the series in calls letters etc I did in the 70s.I don't mind saying and now I feel a load off my shoulders. That you were the shot in the arm no pun intended I needed.you and a prescious few commended me.And since I been diasgnosed terminally ill and having gone thru the horrors of one year of chenmotherapy. You and a few others have made my life more tolerable these. last days.I always wanted to share in a forum my having ben blessed to know many many celebrities from age 6 when I met my hero. A man totally forgotton in todays changing world the one and only Eddie Cantor bango eyes who I consider the greatest entertainer-humanitarian. Then I knew Bud Abbott 3 Stooges Margaret Hamilton Jack Benny George Burns Bob Hope and dozens of character actors from fllms and in this case. Calf and visut Pat Obrien Alan Hale Harry von Zell or meet them in Conn.when they travel East.in our case its the performers from Andys show that strikes a cord and I thank god I wrote down in shorthand every interview they granted me but remember when I never intended these conversations and letters to be published.I gave them all my word I'd say nothing of their views .it was meant for my ears only.but now with my health as it is I feel I can open up example is people asking me of Frances Baviers reaction to the co actors.its scarey to see her views are coming out thru other means .I remain loyal to her.I adored this woman.its tiime to bring this open letter to a close. But Robert I had to thank you and those who stood by me.you'll never know none of you the good you've done.I pray the Digest prints this. You know out there who you are along with Robert James. To know my hard work is reconized touches me beyond words.I see silliy things printed and I guess that comes with the territory but I like to provide thoughtful insight and enticing recollections and now I can with a free conscious.Bless each and everyone of you true Mayberry fans. You're all loyal followers. And Robert again thank you. I hope to share more insight into these interviews these performers and these episodes.I'm just happy I was there to tell them before they passed on just how much joy they brought into my life and I still stand by that conviction. And Allan thank you my friend. Now I'm going to bed.God Bless and this time its not just Col Tim saying that but yours truly.Tom Kessel [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Sharper Edge Again of Andy Griffith as Andy Taylor
Andy Griffith it appears to me and this is only guess work must had tested the dramatic waters the last year or so of the show and I saw another intense scene rare for the character of Andy Taylor in this example from Opies Group with Opie joining a rock and roll group.Aunt Bee is concerned but Andy is livid a powerful scene one of several with Aunt Bee and Andy in the kitchen talking about Opie getting carried away with life in the fast lane as rock star.the camera zooms in on Andy as he looks with pure distain into nowhere with a shocked Aunt Bee hearing him say ill just let him go til he gets into just enough trouble and then hell find out something.simple line but delivered with a wallop .Look at Andys eyes. He's sick of the whole thing and Aunt Bee can only say Why I never heard of such a thing. The writers. And Andy knew naturally Andy had a gift for the dramatic as they dared to brave new unchartered waters .Just like Rogers brutal stab at Andy from Aunt Bees Romance with I just might have a hand in those petunias yet Andy Griffith can when called upon sport a hateful distain look of contempt when needed. Bravo Andy Griffith and Andy Taylor. You're well rounded and you're not ever a one dementional character. Thanks Gritton Joe for your kind words for me and Col Tim.You're very perceptive and a gentleman. Ill add my vote on the funniest line no rather more like the funniest botched line the undesputed blunder of Howard Sprague sayin like you can't guess Thank you Capt Tom Colonal Tom Tim Sir.Folks remember I said funniest botched line not funniest. As for funniest well I can't offer any examples because this series had endless list of memorable unforgettable funny.ithe only line that comes to mind next to Citizens Arrest was Aunt Bee the Warden. Aunt Bees oft repeated Get To It to poor Otis Campbell .Two or three words may not constitute a line but but its the signifance of the line that makes it funny to me.Bless You All .Tom Kessel [EMAIL PROTECTED] ps everyone asking about the funniest line well how about the most serious line from TAGS now that's a challange and folks you from my messages as well as the obvious there was many many moments of serious lines from this great series.Let's see if my question gets any healthy feedback .thank you Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
More on Col Tim And Closing the Book on Him
Thanks to google and wipedika the free encyclopedia I just learned of a bio on Dick Haynes aka Col Tim from Howard the Comedian.he was born 1910 and died in Nov 1980 of cancer.an actor in bit parts in films and tv his most notable work outside of a career in country music was being inducted into Country Music Hall of Fame and receiving a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame .His most memorable roles were 3 television appearences in the 60s and one of those appearences was as Col Tim.thats got to say something about the lasting image a performer gives in a bit part in a small slice of pure television AmericanaThe power of television.I saw him 3 nights ago. There was the one man band Evan Thorpe on this beautifully takeoff of Major Bowes Original Amateur Hour later headed by Ted Mack on tv who I met in 1970 whe he did a benefit in my hometown. Its comical watching how badly Evan played but funnier watching him wave triumphly to the audience as he passes by the beloved Col Tim. Of WASG in Raleigh.Next we see the good Col as Andy talks to Howard and behind stage and the Col pops in from nowhere to say. Your next Bless you .that's his tagline Bless you in tune with the people of nearby Mayberry. Then a highlight after the Col congradulates Agnes Jean Babcock.another tryist.Poor Howard. Flustered in the presence of the Col addresses him to the laughter of Floyd back home with Opie Clara Aunt Bee Goober watching on tv after the Col introduces him as the Merry Mapcap of Mayberry. As Thank you Capt Tom Col Tom Tim Sir..its terribly funny so natural with Howard in awe.Just look at the great care Andy Grffith and crew put into what to them must have been insignifance in telling a story. You can sense the love and care in scene after scene. So once again the Colonal is put into the mothballs for now like other memorable bit players but Col I'm one fan of yours i won't soon forget.Too bad we didn't see more of Dick Haynes aka Col Tim but he left us his mark. You did Major Bowes and Ted Mack proud. Finally I see also under google this night stories qalore on Mr Schwamp and to his identity(here's quite a writeup on him and rightly so.Someone name Joe wrote in no one yet to this day learned his identity and I'm guessing this is the Unknown Voice my good friend Joe who is mr Schwamps true No One Fan.I'm merely Col Tims No One fan.I don't think ill have rivals to that claim. If I'm wrong why haven't you written in?As he always said and I concur to all out there Bless you All .Tom Kessel [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

Happy 200th. Issue from Col Tims Only Fan?
And another 200th to Wbmutbb.I couldn't observe such an event without congradulations Allen. And thank you Ken Anderson on updates about poor Ferdie having passed on.He was memorable carrying along that acordian and followng his Aunt Clara wherever she went.Like Col Tim and others who were a part of the Mayberry community he and Uncle Ollie and Aunt Nora left their mark and what treasured memories. One more memorable character was. Ruth McDevitt formerly of Mr Peepers fame in her role as Edith. Pendleton. In several later shows Helens Past and espesiallyEmmetts Anniversary. Was she funny as a fuddy duddy old snoop and in Emmetts Anniversary. Look at her facial expressions trying to convince Martha to open up the present or trying to comfort a tearful Martha from accepting the possibility our beloved Emmett might be having a fling with Flora. -I love the classic lines this gifted character actress was given such as Yes I see what you mean one last GASP or just her sympathetic blurting out the name Martha to the tearful Martha back at the Taylor home. The writers from TAGS were wise to utilize the talents of such performers by giving them a simple line then allow like in Ruths case a chance to embellis it and run away with it.You certainly don't know how to keep a secret.is another prime example.itd a shame we didn't see more of this gifted character actress Like she once said to Andy Set up the card table for dominos.More recollections of memorable rarely discussed denizens of Mayberry passing thru next time.Ken Anderson if you know what became of Ferdie maybe you know what became of Dick Haymes as Col Tim?if so tell us.I don't think Ed Sullivan has anything to worry about.Again Alllen Happy 200th.Bless you all.Tom Kessel [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
3 TAGS Alumnis Praise Andy Griffith
Thanks to someone named CJ who e mailed me to invite me to share my views on a chat room but as I'm on a Blackberry I'm not sure I can get access but ill look into it.I want to add 2 more players from the show who in the 70s told me about being on the TAGS in 1965-68. Make that 3. Herbie Faye a great character actor from tvs Bilko guested in Aunt Bee Takes a Job and Tape Recorder.Herbie told me Andy was every inch a gentleman all pro and so easy to work with.Andy always gave supporting players their chance to shine.-It was just another days work very routine he said but what a joy Andy was allowing Herbie to mug for the camera. He said only two performers gave him full reign to join on the fun and they were Phil Silvers and Andy Griffith.Milton From who was in aunt Bee Takes a Job told me in 1975 that people come up still and recall him from two things.:His guest shots on Superman and his bit part as a counterfeiter with Herbie Faye.Lastly there is fine supporting actorVince Barnett memorable to us fans as Elmo the pharamcist in the last season.he had kind words for Andy and cast and crew but he said Tom I don't know why it is no one else in the industry calls me anymore outside of Andys show.Only his show offered me any real work and I'm only sorry they didn't use more of me but I know Andy was winding down by this time and I didn't want to step on any toes .But it was a great experience. He told me Church Benefactors was memorable because the gag was Elmo wanting a pool table with that 500.00. Church gift.Roles were hard to come by those days he said and Andy appreciated using talented character and supportering actors of long ago to Do Their Thing. I could sense the deep remorse he had others didn't take advanage of his talents in later years but he was grateful TAGS put out the call to him. These personal recollections I have compiled over 40 years from performers of yesteryear make me happy someone took time to interview them and say Thanks for a job well done.Well never again see the likes of. Andy and his superb cast players and crew. Finally just another delightful observation.6rom What if Andy Gets Sick.Look at the highlight near the end a gem of a scene of a sick Andy trying to sleepwith Goober and others pulling at his shirt Andys head spinning to and from left and right with closeups of Emmett Aunt Bee Goober Howard and a bit player zooming in on him with one musical note accenting each push and shove.Look at poor Andys face .he's nearly ready to cash in his chips.what a wonderful bit of buisness .its played out beautifully.-if there's any Col Tim fans out there please drop me an e mail.meantime its back to the drawing board.God Bless .Tom Kessel [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

Aunt Bee makes a big fuss over revealing to the visiting pastor famed character actor Iam Wolfe that she is wearing a wig.In real life the actor himself is wearing a wig for many many years.talk about feeling hypocritical wear a hairpiece imagine the actor himself knowing he's been wearing one all along.just a funny observation. In my opinon and I say thiswith respect fun and conviction if I had to pick out the most goofey off beat one demensional one time character just passing thru the world of Mayberry hands down its got to be A Singer In Town.I laugh myself silly when I see that scene inside the Taylor home.someones at the door.In comes marching Clara Edwards the great Hope Summers and her nephew Ferdie. His name is in the ends credits but I get a laugh watching the young actor playing the nerdish Ferdie practically running in right behind his Aunt clara and its offbeat but funny and that goofey look those wide eyes and childlike whimsical smile that gullible look.He was only in a few scenes like later the hotel room. But his mere appearance adds credibilty to this classic series.Where they get these unforgettable memorable characters from walk ons to cameos to full blown parts its a stroke of genius on part of casting agents.Ferdie was the 60s verion of Steve Urkal from Family Matters. He's merely passing thru no more than that but he's so in tune to it all.. Classic characters from TAGS.This is Col Tims protege reject signing off.God bless.Tom Kessel [EMAIL PROTECTED] Ps Hope Summers by the way told me in 1972 that Andy Griffith was the nicest most giving performer she ever worked with. She marveled at how he single handedly was in full charge of the 8 year long series. And how he had a say in every facet and how he thought of others before himself giving credit to othersI totally concur. He Was Brutal To Andy Taylor
Thinking of more dramatic moments on TAGS I just thought of a brief tense moment more like a second that showed another sharp stabbing scene a rarity on comedy shows like this classic series.its no big deal but it a memorable moment frozen in time that higjhlights something a bit diffrent .its not only the words but the rare sarcastic and threatening way they were used against Andy Taylor.from 1964. Aunt Bees Romance.the great character actor Wallace Ford. Comes courting Aunt Bee.he's. Up to no good and Andy is on to him.liston carefully to. A 5 second line of the great Ford before walking away from Andy brutally and cruelly and with sarcasm tosses Andy a hateful line something like I just might have a hand in those petunias yet .play your dvd player to get exact line but trust me its darn close and what a wallop it packs.that was a shot he took at our Andy but in the end goodbye.good line good direction good scene and another great show.I love TAGS for many reasons but finding a rare treat like this a dramatic scene brutal sarcsasm or real pathos or a blooper or out of character shots helps make this series more unique and beloved..More tidbits next time.-I love Family Visit and the previous episode with James Wethersfield as Uncle Ollie. He was funny. A loveable pest brash and overbearing. A coward but funny.I have to go I think I hear Col Tim calling me.or is it Capt Tom as Howard mistakenly called him.?sorry Dick Haymes. Howard McNear before and after
I often wondered which Floyd left the most memorable impression for us fans.pre 1962 or 1964-67.I can only speak for myself .I get the impression his impersonaters and followers are remembering him after his 62 stroke.to me and I say this with highest respect to this superb actor .it took sadly a stroke to change his personality to the image we know today.his delivery his style his look even the pattern of his speech made him far funnier.its the character I know .funny as he was pre 1962 it appears he was funnier more memorable after the stroke.he was a dear sweet man Frances Bavier told me.he wanted so much to return by 64 and Andy Griffith knew how valuable Howard and the entire ensemble was. After his tragic stroke look at the memorable one liners he gave us be it Fraud I charge fraud. Or II already ordered my free foam rinse shampooer or words to that effct.Look at the extreme closeup of that scene after Andy storms out and Howard gets in the last word .what a gifted actor loved by his peers and fans. And in Howard the Comedian his classic Is he calling me a big mouth?the stroke tragic as it was somehow embellished the character of Floyd all the more.the character of pre 62 Floyd was a far cry from the latter day funnier. And in my opinon just about the most often rerun episode it appears is the classic Wyatt Earp Rides Again.lookat. Pat Hingle buttering up Floyd just so he can put his placeboard in the barber shoppe window.I crack up with every word Howard spoke in this unforgettable episode. Richard Jury and Pat Hingle ran away with this episode be it buttering up poor Floyd. Or taking on a gullible Goober and Andy never appeared more exassperated with the absurbity of it all.Howard McNear I hope you fans agree was againvery funny.how can one man saying Oh I don't know be funny?liston to the great talents of Howard Floyd NcNear.Debate is still out when he was funnier 1960-62 or 1964-67 but we know either way he is funny regardless.Lastly on the Schwamp character we been discussing.I have a 1988 interview of Andy Griffith Reunion with Andy Don Jack Dodson and Hal Smith and George Lindsay.here Jack on a funny story of the man who played Mr Schwamp.he had signed on originally to have speaking lines but the poor actor got so flustered and nervous he couldn't get the words out so in the end the end he's a extra noo lines.a memorable extra but an extra.what was the name of the episode a reunion where Andy was dancin and he ran into Mr Schwamp on the floor dancing nd Andy sheepishly and embarrsssingly passes on saying Mr Schwamp.I love the way that scene was played out.I could be first of 22 episodes Mr.Schwamp was in.god bless Dick Haymes aka Col Tim or as Howard said Captain Tom in Howard the Comedian another sidesplitting classic episode.Tom Kessel [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Aunt Bee of Orlando is So Right
And I congradulate her.Andy Griffith is to be highly commended allowing his true self to shine thru as Andy Taylor now and then.It makes the character more human and real and shows Andy to full advanage of joining in the fun.Another episode and forgive me friends I forgot the name of the episode but it's a another gem.Its the show where at the very end Clint Howard mistakingly slams the cell door locking poor Barney inside. Its a rousing finale.now look at Andy Griffith laughing up a storm getting a big kick out of the comedy of error after getting a jab at Barney. Its a classic gem to a memorable episode and to his grand talent. And just 2 more observations.Regarding out of character shots our own. Jack Dodson gave a memorable one in County Clerk in last scene of Andy and Mabel Albertson dancing.Look quick at closeup of Anita Jack and th other actress gauging their reaction to Andys embarrassement.the two actresses look blankless and speechless but look at Jack.He has a smile on his face you don't usually see in his characterof Howard.Jack must had thought the camera stopped rolling and couldn't help but smile his natural way at the comedy bit.there are scores of hidden gems I've spotted on the series.I merely wanted to illustrate a few priceless moments.Lastly before anyone corrects my blunder. It wasn't Wallys Station by 1967 .it was of course our. Beloved Goobers .I got so caught up in the joy of my message I forgot for a second. As Dick Haynes aka Col Tim says Bless you all.Tom Kessel [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Why did Andy Griffith Drop the Accent and was Aunt Bee Politically Incorrect?
I never learn why it was Andy Grifith by early 60s dropped his famous hillbilly backwoods image made famous in No Time For Sergants. When the Mayberry Series debuted in 1960 the image was intact then in a year he settled in without the accent and the crackerbarrell physlosophy.Personally to me seeing him evolved to a more straight playing comic performer was a stroke of luck.I have among my 2000 videos 400 episodes of one of my all time tv shows What's My Line an american tv insitution from 50s and 60s.Andy on his 1957 stint as mystery guest is a sheer joy a cut up top up and coming comedian .He brought the house down with his backwoods accented humor.Fast forward to 1965 and 1967 guest shots he is a grimmer more sedated somber actor comedian we came to love.If anyone knows why he changed his persona please let me know.I'm just curious.Either way Andy is still just great a seasonial pro On Aunt Bee. Mention Goobers Contest there was another scene Tvland has edited out and I'm guessing its due to the changing of times.Aunt Bee won 5.00 at Wallys Station .Prior she told Opie she never won anythng in her life.Opie figured if you win something in a raffle you only have to donate it to the Church.Aunt Bee reminded him. Criticizing the Church was sacrilege. Was she politically incorrect by todays standards by todays standards that line is always deleted.if so I've see this before.Gary Coleman for instance in. A 1977 appearence on The Jeffersons in a memorable episode. Before he went on to Diffrent Strokes said to George Jefferson You must have been a Retard.these days the line is omitted and now thru redubbing he says You must have been rattle brained.Just changes in the poltical climate.its not a complaint .far from it its just an observation of times changing.I like any healthy feedback on both topics. And with that as my friend Col Tim once said. Bless all of you.Tom Kessel Tom,[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Andy Griffith Out of Character
And I love it.It happens all the time to the best of performers in movies and television when cameras roll on but for a second the performer is caught out of character. It s good because it shows the character more realistic. On two ocassions I caught Andy out of character.Look at one of the last shows The Wedding the very last scene with Emmett dancin up a storm .Look at Andy being egged on.You'll see him smiling nearly cracking up out of character completely out of character but very convining and realistic. Now in Goobers Contest the scene and this I believe could had an outake left in as I can't explain why Andy looks this way we hear Floyd complaining to Goober while sitting in his car at the pumps.look at the second long shot of Andy looking genuinely pained.I'm a good guesser and I'm piecing this together.my hunch is since this is one of the last scenes our beloved Howard McNear would film in his last episode you can see the effort the difficulty speaking due to his stroke.tho the shot of Andy is out of place it shows in my opinon his natural reaction to his good friend Howard tryng to make an effort to speak.its sad yes but still a well played episode.Andy and Howard I heard were close friends and rightly so. There are other scenes of actors out of character be it in this grand show or elsewhere.I applaud these hidden gems .It makes the scene more realistic. And on a personal note.Thank you friends for your kind words and prayers. 1971 calls to 3 Mayberry Co-stars
An interesting human side to 3 Mayberry celebrities.how can I forget Sept 3 1971. And 51. 00 phonebill calling long distance Conn to Calif 13 character actors from radio film and tv.I compiled 1000 autograph lettes photos but I'm greedy.in those days character actors had their names in the directories.letters and photos weren't enough.among those listed for anyone to call wa 3 co stars of our favorite show. Anita Corsaut. Burt Mustin and Frances Bavier in Raleigh NC .all 3 had a 20 minute call each and it gave me great insight how human and kind and appreciative they were.in short and I had by the way recorded it on my wollensak taperecorder.Anita told me she loved Andy Griffith calling him a pro gracious and on time.she loved her 5 yrs on it.she laughed in embarrassement when I dare ask her about her role in The Blob. 1958 with Steve Mcqueen. Tom you know I was ashamed being. In that film I had to leave the country.I still can't live it down.oh Anita was such a grateful I took time to call and talk about her career. Burt Mustin in his 90s the years we wrote and spoke by phone was floored anyone knew his name but he told me how he didn't get into show buisness until he was in his 60s.he liked his bit part in Desperate :Hours 1955 with Bogart and March and the retakes he did over unlocking a door for Fredrick March.he loved his role on Andy Griffith calling him a pro and asked me the name of the episode where Barney tossed a tomatoe at him as deputy sheriff and Otis and was it Floyd ?sorry I forgot the name of the episode but Burt said the crew cracked up reshooting the scene .Otis got hit with the tomatoe.we kept in touch til he died at 94 in 1977.he admitted with pride people will always know him as Gus the fireman on Leave it to Beaver.lastly.Frances Bavier was every inch in real life what she was as Aunt Bea.she just completed her role on Mayberry RFD and whlle she had strong views on her relationship with the cast she said the Pickle Story was her favorite.she enjoyed her years on the show but my goodness the minute you called her you knew you were talking to Aunt Bea. O my 3rd call to her she said Excuse me Tom.give me a moment.I have a housefull of cats and its time to feed them but they're all over the house.was I impressed.she was so real. And the genuine article.she was Aunt Bea trust me.it was my good friend radio tv announcer Harry von Zell who tipped me off how to call her.and she was right there folks in the white pages.that's just 3 examples of chatting by phone with celebrities.what an experience but my mother wasn't happy with the next month phone bill. $51.00 that's it folks .Tom Kessel [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Is Mr. Schwamps photo out of focus ?
As mr.schwamps No. One fan for 35 yesrs I found it odd yet funny that on the website Mayberry Historical Society for Mr Schwamp the photo in color of him reading a newspaper has for 2 months been completely out of focus.it adds to the mystery as to who the actor was who played him from 1964-68.but I checked it out moments ago after telling ;my good friend Jim Clark about it and it appears now at last more in focus.any other Mr.Schwamp fans feel free to e mail me in Connecticut.thanks Alan. Drama on the Andy Griffith Show?
Friends we all know tags had tender sentimental moments on an otherwise comedy series and correct me if I'm wrong but I recall two eipsodes off the top of my head that packed sheer drama. Anything but comedy and it played effectively well.one is High Noon in Mayberry the powerful music used to signified heavy footsteps as Leo Gordon near the end comes up the porch for what we think is a Gary Cooper showdown before our boys try to come to Andys rescue only to foil it to roars of laughter.this episdode was well done dowplaying comedy and showing us again what a good actor Andy can be. But for sheer powerhouse dramatic music with no comedy to seen nor heard take a look at Keeper of the Flame with Everette Sloane the great actor trying in vain against all odds to douse the fire he accidently started on his farm in a storage shed I believe, the music is superb played to great effect to highlight a dramatic scene and the scene played well .Sloane was superb in this episode playing his role realistcally and how frightening he can act in a jailhouse scene saying to Opie. There's one of them now.this episode is brilliantly played .tom kessel [EMAIL PROTECTED] . Anyone confirm what I don't see in recent years from Aunt Bea the Warden ?they never ever show the highlight classic scene of Otis climbing down the ladder to a delightful unforgettable tune with Aunt Bea at the foot of the ladder saying her classic. Get To IT.its a gem of a scene but Tvland always deletes the scene.anyone guess why [EMAIL PROTECTED] tom kessel Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
