Disabled for some important reason, or could it be re-enabled OK?

no particular reason, but some testing should be done on dynamic compression vs
cached, and how much cpu it actually uses.

Hi,

Following recent discussion in the en-Wikisource community
(http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Wikisource:Scriptorium#Autopatrolled_permission),
we would like there to be enabled an autopatrolled group to complement the
currently enabled patrolled edits extension, which can be given and revoked by
sysops. Thanks!

Re-opening for the moment for further consideration.

While it's annoying to query (for example) for the latest editor and have it be
null, requiring oversighters to make a trivial edit in order to be able to hide
Bad information seems rather silly and counter-intuitive. Obviously it
shouldn't be possible to hide page text for the top revision, but hiding user

I'm not sure about that. Using the page_props table would probably result in
multiplying the amount of sql requests every time a page is parsed.

I don't see how that would happen. If all these things would reside in
page_props, you'd just need one request to pull all properties of all linked-to
pages once, similar to how we pull the data for all linked-to pages from the
page table in one query (although we do have a batch limit on that, I believe
it's 500, see LinkBatch.php).

I would also like to have the feature of getting revision information from

for all other page-dependant magic words like , etc.

So it should also be implemented for REVISIONID, REVISIONDAY,

--- Comment #8 from Aryeh Gregor simetrical+wikib...@gmail.com 2009-04-02
15:03:09 UTC ---
Without explicit Subversion support, we could probably do this by calling
svnversion a few dozen times for every Special:Version view. But that only
works for actual Subversion checkouts, not tarballs based off Subversion
checkouts. We could include the .svn directory in the nightly extension
tarballs, perhaps . . . then it would work as long as svn is installed (which
it won't be on most shared hosting, if the software can even use exec() to
begin with).

Another way to do this would be to use an on-commit hook of some kind. Or we
could add the functionality to ExtensionDistributor, which would at least solve
a fairly common case (this could be used in addition to allowing svnversion to
be called for those who do a direct checkout).

(In reply to comment #7)

http://subversion.tigris.org/faq.html#version-value-in-source

I don't think it would be impossible for Subversion to do this efficiently.
You'd just need to maintain an index of all files with the marker in them,
checking each file for it whenever a change to it is committed. Then whenever
the revision number is incremented, all files in the index are updated, and you
don't have to scan all files in the repo. That might be way too much effort
for such a minor feature, of course.

I just encountered a strange behaviour, from what I understand it's the same as
what Robert reported, only phrased differently. When trying to delete a single
revision of a file, using the delete link for this revision in the File
history section of the description page, I inadvertedly deleted all the
revisions of the file and of the description page. Surely this wasn't the
previous behaviour.

 Platform: PC
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: Images and files
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: evge...@rambler.ru

My OS is EcomStation (OS/2), seems that bug should occured at Windows also

After migrating from 1.13 to 1.14 MediaWiki some strange things are occured
with images. Thumbnail images with name prefix like 250px are not created,
and thumbnail images are seen as full size images.

Foe example, gallery generates html code for 800x600 image DSC007821.jpg
like:
-
div class=gallerybox style=width: 155px;
div class=thumb style=padding: 13px 0; width: 150px;div
style=margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; width: 120px;a
href=/index.php/%D0%A4%D0%B0%D0%B9%D0%BB:DSC007821.jpg class=image
title=DSC007821.jpgimg alt= src=/images/f/f8/DSC007821.jpg width=80
height=120 border=0 //a/div/div
-

Looking in PHP error log I see a lot of messages like
[02-Apr-2009 16:24:36] PHP Warning: mkdir() [a
href='function.mkdir'function.mkdir/a]: No such file or directory in
F:\htdocs\includes\GlobalFunctions.php on line 1943

Next I add debug out to code for wfMkdirParents

function wfMkdirParents( $dir, $mode = null ) {
global $wgDirectoryMode;

if( strval( $dir ) === || file_exists( $dir ) )
return true;

if ( is_null( $mode ) )
$mode = $wgDirectoryMode;
{//debug out
 $fp = fopen(i:\\apache2\\logs\\er1.log, a);
 fprintf($fp, dir=%s mode=%s\n,$dir, $mode);
 fclose($fp);
}
return mkdir( $dir, $mode, true ); // PHP5 3
}

And in er1.log I see strings like
dir=F:\htdocs/images/thumb/0/0b/Лазерные_пучки_Image011.gif
mode=511

Next I change code for wfMkdirParents() at \includes\GlobalFunctions.php to
code used in 1.13 version. With old code thumbnail images are created and no
PHP warnings in GlobalFunctions.php 1943 are gegereted.

Sorry for pure english.

I talked about this with ^demon on IRC about a week ago, and we came up with
the idea of having an extension version file that just contains basic version
information (extension name, 1.2.3-formatted version and SVN revision) which
would be auto-updated by an on-commit hook. Reading the file would work similar
to how we read messages files with wfLoadExtensionMessages(), which means the
file would be in PHP.

Searching the archives is incredibly important for private lists like
checkuser-l. Currently unless one has a copy of the archives it is next to
impossible to find what you're looking for. Restoring the search for such lists
should be considered reasonably urgent and important. For such private lists,
horrid UI isn't really a concern. I suppose low-quality results is a concern,
but I never had real difficulties there. WRT reindex time - if this is
re-enabled only for selected private lists, would that issue be reduced to an
acceptable level?

Hopefully a clearer summary -- when an account is hidden it should be hidden.
Blocks using wpHideName (which probably has a name other than the id?) do that,
and stewards already have access to that. One should hook onto the other - when
an account is hidden w/ CentralAuth, it should block using wpHideName locally
for every unified account.

[Bug 18311] New: purging images doesn't work.

2009-04-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18311

 Summary: purging images doesn't work.
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: unspecified
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: normal
 Priority: Normal
Component: API
AssignedTo: roan.katt...@gmail.com
ReportedBy: ssan...@web.de
CC: bryan.tongm...@gmail.com, vasi...@gmail.com

On a local wiki, many image thumbnails were having problems, which could be
resolved by adding ?action=purge to the File: description page.

Using the API purge on these pages had no affect, so I worked around it by
using the API to get a list of pages, and downloading the File:...?action=purge
URL for each page.

I originally wanted to dupe this to bug 14476, but this is about /local/
hiding...

I think this was fixed by r48641 - now we don't let admins (ie those without
the rights to use wpHideUser) to modify the blocks. What happened here (it
seems) is that NawlinWiki modified the block after you did - but since he can't
use wpHideUser, it wasn't a hidden block so we can see it in the log. That's
badness, but shouldn't be possible any longer. Such things can be cleaned up by
re-blocking with wpHideUser and having an oversighter clean the logs.

Sounds like deletion needs to purge the relevant content from AbuseLog.
Alternatively, mark it as deleted, and let only those with viewdeleted see it
(which would be something like bug 18091).

Get a load of this.

On http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Preferences scroll down to
User interface gadgets

See e.g., the sentence
 Allow /16 and /24 – /32 CIDR ranges on Special:Contributions forms
(uses API), as well as wildcard prefix searches, e.g., Splark*.

OK, now say to yourself `hmmm, what's that all about? I'll just click
the link to CIDR they provided...'

And lo and behold, by clicking that link, the checkbox at the left is
also clicked, behind your back!!

--- Comment #1 from Splarka h...@goldrush.com 2009-04-02 18:27:02 UTC ---
A few things:

1. This is a consequence of putting a link in a label attribute, and should
be handled better yes, but this is a dupe of bug 15130

2. This has nothing to do with Wikimedia or Site Requests, the bug is in
allowing links in the label attributes. Possibly this could be considered a
bug in the Gadgets extension specifically, but really it is in mediawiki in
general (there are many places in the core code this can happen, especially in
preferences or on edit pages). This specific case could also be fixed on the
English Wikipedia by having the description changed.

3. Your success rate with getting your bugs resolved positively (rather than
WONTFIX/DUPLICATE/INVALID) is about 33%. I highly suggest you spend more time
searching existing bugs and/or communicating with the developers rather than
using bugzilla as a gripe list. This specific bug reads like a bad blog entry
guestbook. [This comment is my own opinion but I am probably not alone in
this.]

Checkusers are more likely to be dealing with usernames of the sort that should
be hidden with hideuser, so they should have that right (whether instead of or
in addition to oversighters I'm not sure -- can't harm for both groups to have
the right). The right has been widely used by stewards primarily, with few
issues arising. CUs should have the tools appropriate to the kind of disruption
they are countering.

From the results of the first more general poll

recent poll on the specific implementation
(http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?oldid=281161846, 78% in favour) we are
clearly well above the boundaries set in Eric's rollout message. It's finally
time to get this thing in play. The configuration is available at

(see:

Regardless, it's a dupe of a previously-filed bug. Resolving as such.

[Bug 18315] New: instalation of AbuseFilter on wiki.pt

2009-04-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18315

 Summary: instalation of AbuseFilter on wiki.pt
 Product: Wikimedia
 Version: unspecified
 Platform: All
 URL: http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Esplanada/Arquivo
/2009/Mar%C3%A7o#Filtro_de_abusos
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: Site requests
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: fabio...@redemeta.com.br
CC: fabio...@redemeta.com.br

After a proposal on our village pump, there has been no opposition to the
installation of the abuse filter on wiki.pt. Local consensus having been
reached, I request the component to installed with user rights attribution by
default as describe on
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:AbuseFilter#User_rights. That is to
say: only sysops will have complete access to the filter , normal logged-in
users will be allowed only to view the log and the filter settings and everyone
(including anonymous users) will be able to see the filter settings. Thank you

Changed the link to http://toolserver.org/~leon/stats/reqstats/ since there is
no such page.php (probably would be a good idea to have one).
As far as the Profiling link, it does not give a connection refused at this
time. However it give a big ol' nasty error and will have to be looked at.

There doesn't seem to be many alternative to htdig.
Did anyone look into Swish-e?
Seems to be the more popular way of incorporating searching.
Let me know, and if there are no objection, I will get it setup-ed.

You could just delete all log entries for a particular page when that page is
deleted.

Wouldn't deal perfectly with undeletion, of course, and I suppose we could add
a per-log-entry deletion facility.

Planning to add an afl_deleted field in the abuse filter log with a raft of
schema changes coming in the next few weeks.

The actual page is MediaWiki:Monobook.css (linked correctly for Wikipedias

MediaWiki:Monobook.css are conflicting (consider MediaWiki:monobook.css

[Bug 18043] AbuseFilter log shows the contents of deleted pages

(In reply to comment #5)
You could just delete all log entries for a particular page when that page is
deleted.

There is an edge case where the abuse filter log is recording an attempted edit
to a non-existent page that was disallowed or aborted. In which case the page
was never created, and consequently was also never deleted. I know of at least
one case where the abuse log for such an attempted edit contains oversight
grade material.

That case probably needs to be handled at the time when such a log entry is
accessed.
