I think it's fine for it to replicate desktop as long as it is placed in the

Should it surface to all browsers? I personally find the icon in the bottom
left on Washington Post rather annoying and would be interested in a less
obtrusive UI element. Also the less JavaScript for the best - it might be
better placed in Special:MobileOptions / Special:Preferences as a setting if we
do want to support this.

I still think this is what pinch zoom what built for.

Yes, I can create a Google Code-in task out of this report, but I would
 welcome
a clear description added here. Currently it is not clear (to me) what is the
solution expected. We want to send GCI students to tasks with a clear
 implementation. Thank you!

The summary has summarised the discussion so far. It's about moving the
configuration variable to a system message with a different default.

I'm curious to on what basic you think Echo should not be merged into core
(whether there are plans or not it should be the long term plan).

I still struggle, despite endless talk page discussions, to see how a legacy
orange bar of death from back in the 90s is better than Echo.

MobileFrontend is a futuristic home for shiny things from the future and
shouldn't house things like this. So why can't this be a WONTFIX..?

[Bug 58989] New: Bulk translation by Translate extension for items which are exactly the same

Bug ID: 58989
Summary: Bulk translation by Translate extension for items
which are exactly the same
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal

We should have a possibility to translate all items which are exactly the same
at one time.(I don't mean machine-translation). it is human translation for
items (the same exactly items) at one step.

For example
most of translation which are needed in
http://translatewiki.net/w/i.php?title=Special:Translategroup=out-wikimania-scholarships-applanguage=fa
was done before and why we should translate the same item (like privacy) 2
times in the one project? and n times in translatewiki.net!

In my opinion we should have a possibility to use translation's memory for Bulk
translation for cases which are exactly the same.
for eaxmple :
en Native language(s): =fa: زبان مادری:
we can use it for items which are only Native language(s): or Native
language(s)

it will be useful specially for new /xx projects which their translations are
at the beginning steps.

Working on getting Data repair and upgrade to complete for almost 24 hours
now.

I increased max memory from the 150M hard coded in runJobs.php to 250M. It
failed fairly quickly.

It's running with 350M now.

It looks like some of the SMW jobs may be using a huge amount of memory at
times.

over 250M of memory, and causes the process to fail.

Not that this bug in fact consists of two bugs. The first part is to implement
the display of badges which is the most important at the moment. The editing of
badges will be able via the special page as soon as bug 56693 is fixed. However
this should also be possible via the default user interface.

[Bug 48946] Add font size adjustment feature to the mobile front end

2013-12-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48946

--- Comment #12 from Jared Zimmerman (WMF) jared.zimmer...@wikimedia.org ---
I don't like burying things like this in settings, i might need a different
font size from being on the couch at home, to being on the bus, to reading in
bed, to walking down the sidewalk not paying attention to my surroundings.
point is I don't want to go to another screen, i don't want to reload the page,
and i don't want to fiddle with my browsers back buttons. A lot of people
probably don't even know settings exist or why they'd want to go there in the
first place. I don't find the brow.si extension to be particularly distracting,
and I think its a great access point for visual settings like background color,
font size, and sharing options, always there, and not really in your way.
Burying in settings is a sure-fire way to have it not used. out of sight, out
of mind.

Anons won't have echo in their personal bar and therefore wouldn't have a
notification to check their talk page, which, is also awkward to access if you
don't have a personal bar. I'm not against the bug in general (MORE POSITIVE
INTERACTIONS!) but i'd rather us remove the confirmation step from thanks
rather than trying to solve for thanking anons right now.

[Bug 58991] New: SMW::on and SMW::off in SMW 1.9

2013-12-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58991

   Web browser: ---
Bug ID: 58991
   Summary: SMW::on and SMW::off in SMW 1.9
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: Semantic MediaWiki
  Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: jaide...@gmail.com
CC: jamesin.hongkon...@gmail.com, jeroen_ded...@yahoo.com,
mar...@semantic-mediawiki.org, nischay...@gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

With SMW 1.8, I have no SMW::on and SMW::off links showing in the template
result format:
Look:
http://wikincat.org/w/index.php?title=Especial:Consultarq=%5B%5BTitleProperOfSeries%3A%3AO+mochileiro+das+gal%C3%A1xias%5D%5Dp=format%3Dtemplate%2Flink%3Dnone%2Ftemplate%3DResult-20listpo=%3FWikiTitleAndSubtitle%0A%3FStatementOfResponsibilityRelatingToTitleProper%0A%3FDesignationOfEdition%0A%3FPlaceOfPublication%0A%3FPublishersName%0A%3FAuthor%0A%3FSubjectTopic%0A%3FDateOfPublication%0A%3FIsbn

The template used is very simple:
http://wikincat.org/w/index.php?title=Predefini%C3%A7%C3%A3o:Result_listaction=edit

If this behavior is my fault, what I am doing wrong?

   ||SMW::off in SMW 1.9

--- Comment #1 from MWJames jamesin.hongkon...@gmail.com ---
Only template parsing in Special:Ask [[SMW::off]]/[[SMW::on]] is distorted
because [1] fails to enter parsing due to $wgParser-getTitle() and
$wgParser-getOptions() being null.

I'm not aware of that anyone has worked on this part ([1] and [2] are the same
for master and 1.8.0.5) therefore I can't tell why the behaviour are suppose
the be different.

[2]
https://github.com/SemanticMediaWiki/SemanticMediaWiki/blob/1.8.0.5/includes/queryprinters/SMW_ResultPrinter.php#L282

PS: Checked the output of $wgParser-getOptions()/$wgParser-getOptions() using
var_dump() in Special:ask which yields null.

I don't know if this helps, but the problem appears in Special:RunQuery, too
(from SemanticForms), not only in Special:Ask.

This is due to the special status of a SpecialPages where parsing is handled
differently in MW in comparison to a standard page.

The issue appears to be the $wgParser stubobject initialization.

As an easy fix, just remove [1], [2].

[3] was set for a reason (exists at least since 1.8) which is why the
SpecialPage like Ask or RunQuery will show [[SMW::off]]/[[SMW::on]] for a
template output.

[Bug 58992] New: Add possiblity to query oldimage filtered by SHA1 with the API

Original bug title: Add possiblity to query oldimage filtered by SHA1 with the
API

where oldimage is a reference to the according database table

In an ideal world, there would be one method that tells me whether a file with
a given sha1 was ever on a repo, returning the title where it was seen last.

Currently I am firing 3 requests; 2 against the mw API and 1 against my
toollabs account at
https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Commons:User_scripts/File_AnalyzerwithJS=MediaWiki:FileAnalyzer.js
for each query. As you may already suspect, I'd like to replace the one to my
labs account with one to the mw API.

This is useful for detecting copyright violations, [[WP:Sock puppetry]] and
much more.

Marking this as wontfix... though maybe I should have gone with fixed, or
invalid... I'm fine with anonymous parameters to #formlink not getting
handled correctly; it's not the correct syntax anyway (except for true query
string parameters like preload, but those work fine). I'm also fine with the
query string parameter(s) not being able to include spaces, since those params
are meant to be sent directly to the URL, which doesn't allow spaces.

Original bug title:
Make limited information from filearchive available to everyone

Reasoning:
When it comes to identifying copyright violations and [[WP:Sock puppetry]], it
is essentially helpful if you can check whether a file has been previously
uploaded without uploading the file into the stash yourself.

Demand:
title and size, filterable by sha1
( fasha1=HEXHASHfaprop=title|size )

What about privacy?
Not an issue. If you upload to a file to the stash, you are able to obtain this
information anyway.

[Bug 57084] Store the page_id of the moved page in log_page

--- Comment #7 from Aaron Halfaker aaron.halfa...@gmail.com ---
I just wanted to leave another note because I've run into this issue again.

I'm working on building a graph of the use of draft namespace[1] in the English
Wikipedia over time. This work is made substantially more difficult by the
lack of a persistent identifier of the moved page associated with move events.
Since move events change the non-persistent identifier of a page (namespace
title), and draft articles are intended to be moved, I need to reprocess the
entire log in order to keep track of these changing identifiers every time I
need to update the graph's data.

[Bug 58997] New: Transition service groups to new globally unique names and UIDs

2013-12-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58997

Bug ID: 58997

and UIDs
   Product: Wikimedia Labs
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: Infrastructure
  Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: m...@uberbox.org
CC: abog...@wikimedia.org, rlan...@gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

The current service group scheme, while workable, has design issues that cause
problems with services global to all projects (NFS and databases being the
primary examples).

Proposed new implementation:

- Globally unique UID/GIDs (that, I believe, is already the case)
- Names in the form $projectname.$groupname (rather than local-$groupname)
- All service groups under a single OU (and not per-project OUs)

Implicit:
- usernames and group names must disallow '.'

Ideally, the division on what system to use should be per-region so that
functionality in pmtpa is not impaired while the new system is geared up in
eqiad.

(The change from one to the other implies changes in many system
settings/scripts, not all of which could be tweaked to understand both
schemes).

Reedy will deploy the config change on Dec 31st (given it
is New Year's Eve, I can't promise a specific time). See:
 https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Deployments#Week_of_December_30

Just a quick update: To be safe, the change won't happen until Thursday the 2nd
(the above link is still accurate). This is due to the 1st being a holiday
(thus, not many people with access to fix brokenness will be online). We have a
pretty firm policy of not deploying things on the day before people won't be
working (ie: all Fridays, and days before holidays).

I know this seems straightforward, but we don't want anything odd to happen
with this change.

Thanks for your understanding.

(PS: also, when looking at the [[:wikitech:Deployments]] calendar, be sure to
take note of the UTC/Pacific columns, as the regularly scheduled Lightning
Deploy window at 4pm Pacific appears to be on the next day, due to that being
24:00/0:00 UTC. Timezones are fun.)

After observing some strange results from an automated Ruby test for cursor
movement in the Visual Editor CE surface, we did some digging, and it appears
that while a user is typing away happily and making and edit, the
document.activeElement flip-flop several times.

I'm assuming this is unintentional behavior, thus the bug ticket.

Repro steps:

1) Visit this page:
https://test2.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Selenium_user/cursor_test_page_chromedriver_bug
2) Click into VE editing mode.
3) With cursor placed immediately in front of the letter a in the word
after, press the right arrow key several times in succession.
4) When your right-arrow-clicking brings you to the reference, the
document.activeElement switches from ve-ce-documentNode ve-ce-branchNode
noime to ve-ce-surface-paste

I'm assuming that when the user is typing in the editing box, the
document.activeElement should not be changing.

[Bug 58997] Transition service groups to new globally unique names and UIDs

2013-12-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58997

--- Comment #2 from Marc A. Pelletier m...@uberbox.org ---
There are a number: NFS expect usernames and group names to match between
client and server when not using Kerberos, that's obviously not possible with
non-unique names (right now it's hacked around by having a cron job read from
ldap and construct a local /etc/group and /etc/passwd based on it; that's not
robust, and very hacky)

Gerrit, otoh, needs to have a single source of group names and cannot combine
things coming from more than one OU at all (unique or not).

Ryan had a couple of other scenarios where having a list of unique service
groups names was desirable or necessary.

[Bug 58969] Data repair and upgrade not completing using non-interactive job queue runner

2013-12-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58969

--- Comment #8 from Siebrand Mazeland s.mazel...@xs4all.nl ---
I've had jobs exceed 550MB of memory now. I have no idea why job it is, or how
to reproduce it. Once the job queue is empty (1421969 to go), I'll restart the
process again, with a single queue runner, so I'll have more detail.

If you want any additional debug information in, please submit a patch, let me
know which it is, and I'll run the update with that code. Expecting to be able
to restart the run tomorrow morning (CET) if it doesn't fail during the night.

[Bug 58980] Write Python script to create new wiki user(s)

2013-12-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58980

--- Comment #5 from Jeff Hall jh...@wikimedia.org ---
OK, I didn't realize you were a GCI participant Theopoliosme - thanks for
working on this task! I ran into a minor error when running the script
locally, and added that comment to the GCI task:

http://www.google-melange.com/gci/task/view/google/gci2013/578824139122

In reference to the questions about WHY we want this script, it's to complement
an existing Python script used to generated new wiki articles, and the scripts
in tandem will eventually be used for running automated browser tests against
new releases, with the goal that each test is hermetic and can run against a
fresh Mediawiki install without assuming the presence of certain user accounts
and articles (the test should create whatever user logins and article content
it needs).

[Bug 58999] New: TimedMediaHandler should support non-English namespace names

2013-12-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58999

   Web browser: ---
Bug ID: 58999
Summary: TimedMediaHandler should support non-English namespace
names
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: master
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Keywords: i18n
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: TimedMediaHandler
  Assignee: md...@wikimedia.org
  Reporter: tom...@twkozlowski.net
CC: aarcos.w...@gmail.com, bawolff...@gmail.com,
fflo...@wikimedia.org, gti...@wikimedia.org,
jger...@wikimedia.org, mtrac...@member.fsf.org
Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

It is good practice for MediaWiki extensions to support non-English namespace
names (while having the English name as canonical name).

This doesn't appear to be the case at the moment, as TimedText and
TimedText_talk are hard-coded inside TimedMediaHandler.hooks.php and there's
no i18 file for the namespaces (if I understand correctly).

It should be possible for TimedMediaHandler to support namespace localization,
not only for Wikimedia wikis but also for third parties. (For instance, the
Portuguese Wikipedia community has requested that in bug 58984 comment 2.)
