[Wikimedia-l] Goodbye and see you around

[Biyanto Rebin]

Dear all,

Tomorrow is my last day working at Wikimedia Indonesia. Goodbye is a thing
that we should celebrate. I am very grateful to have a wonderful chance to
collaborate with my local community, local organisation, and international
community also various chapters and affiliates. I will continue my
volunteering activity while enjoying my next journey as a master student in
Digital Humanities in Uppsala University, Sweden.

In the last 3 months, I have been doing collaboration work with Rachmat
Wahidi, our new Chair of the Board of Executive with his new teams. I am
sure WMID will achieve more in the future under his leadership with a more
diverse team, lots of local communities, strong grass root movement and
continuous support from the local community members, and our presence in
the ESEAP community makes us one of the biggest communities in the region.

Hello Delphine,

I am so grateful to have a chance to work with you. You are my big
sister+friend in this movement. I remember the first time I edited
Indonesian Wikipedia was 16 years ago, when I was in high school. At the
time, personal computers and the internet were not widely used in
Indonesia. As a newcomer, I got so many corrections and constructive
feedback from senior volunteers, my writing was awful, I have got several
warnings as well, but I grew up with the community like my own family. We
are not related by blood for sure, but the community does.

This is how I picture our relationship, I am the newbie in the organisation
and can grow my leadership and organisation because I got a chance to
collaborate with many wonderful people like you. Changing our
organisational culture was the hardest part for me, but by emphasizing on
open, honest and clear communication makes us grow bigger and more stable,
 I can say that I am proud to be part of Wikimedia Indonesia because of our
wonderful coworkers,  volunteer community, and members.

I believe we will still cross our paths in the future. So, see you again!

I just want to share that Wikimedia Indonesia has started the initiative
since last year. We have disbursed a healthy package - we call it, wellness
package - to our active community members. They are indeed very valuable
and most of them are vulnerable. Vaccine is another story, since our
country still prioritizes the most needed first.

 least attempt it.

 It might be unusual for a nonprofit to provide this kind of support to
 its volunteers, but this is a truly exceptional situation. And while the
 entire world is struggling with Covid, the nature of the struggle is deeply
 different in most wealthy countries compared to what India is going through
 now. And India will probably not be the last nation to see its healthcare
 system not just threatened but entirely overwhelmed.

 Of course the WMF is not going to be able to start airlifting
 Wikimedia-branded vaccines or oxygen supplies, but there must be some form
 practical help that can be given to support Wikimedia volunteers.

Rinto Jiang is a Wikimedian since 2004 and also one of the founders of
Wikimedia Indonesia who is currently domiciled in Taiwan. He graduated in
engineering at National Cheng Kung University. He is re-elected as one of
the Board of Trustees in 2019. His professional career is as an engineer in
a company. His main goal is to place Wikimedia Indonesia as a forum to
contribute to the advancement of free and equitable knowledge, especially
in Indonesia, in supporting the advancement of formal education.

Fachria Y. Marasabessy was a graduate of the Department of Education in
Jakarta State University and a Wikimedian since 2017. She joined Wikimedia
Indonesia in 2016 and interested in being actively involved in Wikimedia
Indonesia's activities. In 2019, she was trusted to serve as the Member of
Board of Trustees.

Fajarwati is a member of the Wikimedia Indonesia since 2016 and graduated
from Jakarta State Polytechnic in Accounting Degree and Bachelor of
Accounting at the University of Persada Indonesia Y.A.I. Before joining the
project Keterlibatan Masyarakat dalam Teknologi (KMT) and Peningkatan
Kinerja Teknologi Cipta Media (PKT) as an accountant in 2016–2017, she
worked in the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Indonesia in the same position.
She is currently working as a Project Assistant at the
Kemitraan-P

[Wikimedia-l] Wikimedia Indonesia Digitization Effort

We want to share our effort in digitization in this and last year.
Our recent effort is doing collaboration with Horison magazine, a prominent
literature magazine since 1960. They're enthusiast to share their magazine
via Wikimedia Commons and licencing under CC-BY-SA 4.0, since this year on
50th anniversary, their magazine will only publicized online via
horison-online.com.

Wikimedia Indonesia, in collaboration with the Dewantara Kirti Griya
Museum, ran a six-month GLAM project
<http://wikimedia.or.id/wiki/Digitalisasi_Karya_Jawa_Cetak_dari_Koleksi_Museum_Tamansiswa_Dewantara_Kirti_Griya,_Yogyakarta>
which digitized Javanese-language printed books from the museum's
collections.

Between May and November 2015, this project digitized more than 100 books.
More than half of these are now in the public domain in their source
country (Indonesia) and/or in the United States and have thus been uploaded
to Wikimedia Commons

or (for books still in copyright in Indonesia) the English Wikipedia

have been uploaded to a closed-access website until such time as they are

The digitization effort has not only benefited the museum, but also the
general populace. It has been of special benefit to academics and
researchers who are interested in Javanese-language books and print
culture. It has also had the effect of convincing the Office of Libraries
and Archives, Yogyakarta, to continue digitization efforts, albeit without
allowing open access to the results.

"This project received a warm reception among academics and students with
on Indonesia. For instance, Mohammad Rokib of the State University of
Surabaya wrote " I'll share this to sanskrit students and colleagues in my
uni," and the Indonesian Studies program at Leiden University shared the
initial project announcement, noting that "digitized old Javanese print
books (pre-independence, many from the 1910s and 20s) from the Taman Siswa
Museum in Yogyakarta" were now online and available for use.".

Another similar project is the collaboration with Horison magazine, a
notable magazine published in Indonesia which intended to focus on poetry
and literature. In March 2016, Wikimedia Indonesia was invited by Horison
staffs asking the possibility to digitize their magazine collections.
Wikimedia Indonesia undertook their demands to scan the magazine from July
1966 edition.

This digitization lasts for approximately six months since February 2016.
Scanned magazines from July 1966 to December 1990 editions are now
available in Wikimedia Commons

under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license. Letters of
permissions from representative author are being sent to OTRS team to be
reviewed.


In addition, this year, Wikimedia Indonesia intends to continue its
digitization program, focusing on the more than 600 Dutch-language letters
written by Ki Hadjar Dewantara - the founder of Taman Siswa and widely
considered the father of modern education in Indonesia. This is meant to
further develop the collaboration and relationship between the Dewantara
Kirti Griya Museum and Wikimedia Indonesia.
