Re: [WISPA] 5.8GHz Link Loss

2009-08-10 Thread michael mulcay
Guys,

I think you have a classic case of multipath fading. The things to check
are:

1. Is there enough fade margin to achieve the desired availability (99.98% -
99.998%)?

2. Is the first Fresnel Zone blocked 40% at K = 4/3?

3. Is the reflection point as close to one end as possible? Is it blocked?

If you send me the following I will do a path analysis for you.

Antenna gain at both ends, dBi
Cable loss at both ends, dB
Tx power output, dBm
Rx sensitivity at BER = 10-6
Antenna height at both ends, AMSL in feet
Path length in miles

[WISPA] [Board Approved] 60 miles in 3 days! Everyone Deserves a Lifetime!

2009-08-10 Thread Dylan Bouterse
Before I get started with my cause and reason for sending this email I
want to apologize if this email is deemed inappropriate for this list. I
feel like over the years of being a member of WISPA and this list I have
come to appreciate each of you as a type of online family member so I
hope I do not offend or waste any of your time. I asked the WISPA board
for permission before sending this email and I truly appreciate their
consideration and thoughtfulness in allowing me to post this completely
unrelated list topic. I also wanted to give each of you a chance to join
in this cause as many of you or friends and family unfortunately may
have been touch personally by this disease.

My wife and her best friend Kim walked the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer
3-day 60 mile walk in 2002 when Kim was diagnosed with breast cancer and
fighting the disease. She was in remission for almost 5 years when she
was diagnosed again. Kimberly Teems Marques lost her life in May of 2008
at the age of 42.

Last October my wife Gayle and 5 other friends and family walked the
Tampa Breast Cancer 3-day again, in her memory as Team Kimpossible. I
spent the weekend in Tampa cheering them on the entire way. The event
was so inspirational in it's cause, magnitude, and the walkers' sheer
passion that I felt compelled to participate as a walker this year.
Aside from the challenge of walking 60 miles in 3-days, each walker is
required to raise $2300 in order to walk. I have been funneling most of
my contacts to my wife's fund raising efforts since she is much more
connected to this than I am, and as a result, I am going to be
struggling to raise my $2300. What I don't raise of the $2300 comes out
of my pocket. The motivation for doing this is far greater than the risk
of not raising all the funds so I am not giving up! J

Some of you may be touched and motivated to make a monetary donation to
our effort. If so, there is a link in the signature of my email and
every $1 is greatly appreciated. Many of you have websites and or your
own audience via Social Network sites. Helping us spread the word and
cause via those outlets would also be greatly appreciated. We are trying
to attract sponsors for fundraising events, raffle prizes etc and as you
well know, the more traffic we can show, the better our justification
for sponsorship. More information on how to help us on Facebook or your
website can be found via the http://continuekimsfight.com
http://continuekimsfight.com site. See the right hand column link for
Spread the Word.

Thank you all very much for your time.

If you respond to this email, to prevent any further off-topic emails to
the list, please reply to me directly. I feel I am stretching the list
etiquette as it is sending this.

Thank you all,

For pricing I would say its best to negotiate direct - we use it as an all

API's, so we've tied it into a number of back end projects here.

When we started, we were using it just for the scheduling aspect...best

Re: [WISPA] 5.8GHz Link Loss

2009-08-10 Thread Mike
Has the link changed completely? Or does it come and go with time of
day? Are both ends of the link at the same height? If so, the
reflection point will be roughly half the path. If not, the
reflection point will be closer to the lower antenna. Has anything
changed in the terrain at the reflection point? Are these paths
urban or rural? Could there be some new growth at the reflection point?

If the phenomenon has not passed, it may not be tropospheric
ducting. Although ducting can persist for a day or so, if it's still
degraded, probably not.

If the path is over an urban are it may be Rayleigh fading, or Rician
fading if the path is over trees and such.

Did someone else show up and start shooting across your path,
especially at mid path?

There is a wealth of knowledge on this list, but we still need some more info.

Did all of the 3? paths degrade similarly?

Mike

Links are N-S, E-W and NE-SW, different brands radios, but all in the ISM
5.8 spectrum. Can start as early as 8pm but usually after midnight. Goes
until the suns been up 1 to 3 hours. Doesn't happen every day, but seems to
be predominant in the summer when we get over 90 degrees with 90% humidity
and then the afternoon/evening rain from the buildup. I see it happening to
short links also, just doesn't get bad enough to drop.

I was wondering about condensation from the evening dew in the LMR
connectors which might evaporate out after a couple of hours of
sunlight. Have you checked the connectors/feed horns?

Re: [WISPA] 5.8GHz Link Loss

2009-08-10 Thread Ed Spoon - Computer Sales Services, Inc.
No, nothing new. This has been an ongoing issue for years. Does not last all
day and does not happen every day. Can start as early as 8pm but usually
after midnight. Usually gone before or just after sunrise. (Has occurred
during daylight on rare occasions - I'm going to have to start a log just
for this event!). Seems to be predominant in the summer. I see it happening
to short links (PtMP) also, just doesn't get bad enough to drop. My gut
feeling has always been that it's temperature/pressure change related.

There is a wealth of knowledge on this list, but we still need some more
 info.

Did all of the 3? paths degrade similarly?

 Mike

Both links are using Radiowave 3' high performance antennas. One
link is a pair of Orthogon units, the other are Trango Tlink10's and
a third 20mi link are Trango Atlases.

[WISPA] Mikrotik Redirect

2009-08-10 Thread sales
What I am attempting to do is setup a script to put on the client routerboard
when there account becomes 30+ days behind. This script will occasionally
redirect the clients web browser to a notice page that lets them know there
account is past due and offer a payment page. If they refresh they should be
able to continue browsing. This is intended to be multipurpose, informative to
the user in case they forgot to pay, offer a quick way to get caught up and be
a tad annoying until paid.

I tried this experiment on my home connection:

0 X chain=dstnat action=dst-nat to-addresses=1.2.3.4 to-ports=80
 protocol=tcp src-address=0.0.0.0/0 dst-address=!1.2.3.4 dst-port=80
 nth=5,1

Really did not work as planned. Occasionally I would get the page at the
1.2.3.4 server but most of the time I would get broken links and partially
displayed pages?

Well, I can tell you why this is happening. Remember that each image,
each CSS/Javascript include, etc, are all seperate HTTP requests, so if
you are interrupting every fifth request, you are also going to end up
blocking every fifth include (for reference, my twitter page has 54 src
attributes in it, so your rule would break a random 20% of twitter for me).

So far as how you would accomplish that, perhaps 1.2.3.4 needs to
respond with some javascript to pop up a new window, or force
redirection of the existing window. There is no simple way that I can
see to be able to do what you are trying to do with just Mikrotik rules.

I used to do what you did, but it resulted in many errors on the page as
you encountered. Using the web proxy works better but still won't solve
your problem completely.

This will redirect all 'deadbeats' to the web proxy, which will then
only allow them to your website.

/ip firewall address-list
add address=192.168.1.5 comment=deadbeat customer who needs to pay!
disabled=no list=deadbeats

/ip firewall nat
add action=redirect chain=dstnat disabled=no dst-port=80 protocol=tcp
src-address-list=deadbeats to-ports=8080

/ip proxy
set enabled=yes port=8080
/ip proxy access
add action=allow comment=your servers name here disabled=no
dst-host=www.whatever.com
add action=allow comment=your servers ip here disabled=no
dst-address=1.2.3.4/24
add action=deny comment=url to redirect them to disabled=no
redirect-to=www.whatever.com/pay_your_bill.html
