Satellite, they will bundle in other services in the bills and continually
blast them with commercials on all the channels they serve, including gift card

Just a clarification, it is $2500 up front and $1000 month minimum. We are

Been trying to make contact with Real Choice, they don't seem to call back.
It's a matter of adding 5-6Mbps to the client? Is an additional server needed?

Is your objective a list? or a comparison?

I'd like to see a feature comparison... things like:
Do you rent it or own it? (personally, I hate the idea of 'software as
service')
Is it local or in the cloud? (I trust the cloud as far as I can throw it.)
Support type?
Support cost? Ongoing or incident?
Integrate with MT?
Integrate with UBNT?
Payment systems? IPPay, Authorize.net, other
Support for a Hotspot system? MT or UBNT?

As our network grows and we keep adding more hardware I am wondering what
others do with passwords to all these devices.

i hate having one password that works on a lot of devices but i haven't found a
good industry practice or software tool to store all this data securely.

I'm thinking of looking at our network as different classes of devices and
making some kind of standard password for each device class but then make the
specific password for the device different by adding something to the base
class password so it would be different than all the others in the class.

These are the good ones, there are a few others such as WHMCS and GLDS, but
they are really more telco or cable provider centric. When it comes to the

I'd like to see a feature comparison... things like:
Do you rent it or own it? (personally, I hate the idea of 'software as
service')
Is it local or in the cloud? (I trust the cloud as far as I can throw it.)
Support type?
Support cost? Ongoing or incident?
Integrate with MT?
Integrate with UBNT?
Payment systems? IPPay, Authorize.net, other

Re: [WISPA] Payment solutions

2012-05-18 Thread Layne Sisk
I would echo the other sentiments here. My experience is that Paypal is
terrible to deal with if you have a chargeback or dispute. Glad you have had a
good experience with them, but they are very one sided. They are owned by Ebay
and thus care very little about vendors and much more about the buyers. We had
a case where we had proof the customer had received the product, they disputed
the charges and Paypal refunded and refused to even look at our proof. IPPay
is easy to deal with, very helpful, and their APIs are easy to program against.
 Just my .02.

I have had only good dealings with PayPal. Yes a little more expensive than

PayPal is a nightmare for the merchant if the client is not honest.

They are not a bank nor regulated as one, last I recall.

And if you do deal with them, take precautions.

setup a separate bank account to deal with them in a different bank than you
use for your main business accounts and never leave any real money in it that
you are not willing to loose.

And last of all, they can't be trusted, nor can you get a person on the phone
to fix things when they mess them up.

Re: [WISPA] EFT Billing

2012-05-15 Thread Layne Sisk
You can actually use a company called Q-Checks and manually print the checks if
you want. We had a very small number of ACHs and used to do that because
Authorize.net was too expensive. Once we switched to IPPay the cost was so low
we just move all ACHs to them.

We use BlueTie and just recently migrated about 10,000 more users to
their service. Tasks, calendaring, contacts, and up to 10G of storage.
We found it was cheaper than doing it in-house, and better. You can get
a trial account at their website www.bluetie.com, and test it out. If
you like it let me know and I can help you out with more info and
pricing.

Hello,

We are currently using Everyone.net 3rd-party email hosting provider for

about 60 domains and 1000 email accounts. We are very displeased with
their service and have decided to make a change. Last time it was a bit

of a shot in the dark, this time we would like to make a choice we can
stick with for a long time.

What 3rd-party providers have been successful for you, in the 1000+ user

range? Responsive support is our number one demand, followed by service
reliability. Does anyone have experience with Google mail services for
business? It is one among several we are considering.

Re: [WISPA] Call Tracking / Customer management software

2010-05-11 Thread Layne Sisk
Sara,
In our call center we support ISPs and WISPs that use most if
not all of the solutions mentioned. Here is some input on the two
mentioned most frequently in this thread from a call center perspective:

Powercode- Does a great job of network management and at giving you a
history of customer's quality of service, weak in billing and in trouble
ticket management.

Platypus/Wombat- Does a solid job at billing, no network management
tools and weak in trouble ticketing and customer information.

The network management in Powercode may make it worth the price,
but it is much more expensive. We actually developed our own ticketing
system with APIs that talk to both Powercode and Platypus as well as
several other systems because none of them had a robust enough trouble
ticketing system to really do the job. If you want to take a look at it
hit me off list.

Re: [WISPA] VoIP

2010-04-22 Thread Layne Sisk
There are quite a few companies out there that do it per line.
Residential is a bit tougher to find than business. We support end
users for several providers and actually resell some of them too.
Problem tends to be more in the ordering and integration processes that
it does in the actual service although faxes do cause problems for some.
Make sure whatever you do that you find one that is easy to provision
and place orders for. If not the work to do it all manually can be
daunting.

The control panel is very slick. There is an import tool for creating
all
of your customer accounts. Old email can be migrated through the control
panel using IMAP, or the customer can import their mail using POP3. You
just
need to leave your old server running and access itr via IP.

Your email URL is hosted by Google so if you co-ordinate it correctly
it's
a pretty smooth transition. we had to do it with a gun to our head as
our
iMail server failed and I had not completed the setup of the Google
Hosted
system (procrastination cost me).

Here is the instruction page for customer to activate and import their
mail:

  Dear airCloud customer,
airCloud Communications has partnered with Google to bring you a host
of
powerful new features:

Gmailhttp://mail.aircloud.net/ ~ All of the features and
functionality
of a GMail account without having to change your email address, or lose
your
old emails.
Calendarhttp://calendar.aircloud.net/ ~ Organize your schedule and

~ Create a personalized start page with weather, mail, calendar, or
other
gadgets Mobilehttp://www.google.com/mobile/ ~ Access your email,
calendar,
and docs from your web-enabled phone. You can also sync your ActiveSync
enabled phone

To access your email please log into the new server with your current
username and password at
http://mail.aircloud.nethttp://mail.aircloud.net/.
You can contact supp...@aircloud.commailto:supp...@aircloud.com to
have
your old emails migrated to the new server once you have logged in and
activated your new account.

POP3 email users such as Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express,
Thunderbird,
Blackberry, etc will need to set up their account for POP access once
your
account has been activated.
 - Log into the new server at the address above to activate your
account
 - Go to Settings -- Forwarding and POP and
1. Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on.
2. Select keep AirCloud Communications Mail's copy in the
inbox
3. Configure your email client using the Configuration
instructions

Unfortunately the old server does not have a mechanism to export your
contact list. This is not really a major problem as Gmail allows you to
search for emails using names and keywords so locating an email address
on
the new server is very simple.

We are very proud to be partnering with Google and are confident that
once
you start using the new server you will be very pleased with how well
everything is laid out and all of the added features such as Calendar,
Tasks, Chat, WebPages, Docs, and Mobile applications.

Re: [WISPA] How are you handling VOIP services over WiFi?

2009-10-06 Thread Layne Sisk
We have found that the success of VOIP over WiFi is directly related to
the quality of the VOIP provider. Some providers have higher QOS built
into their system and those have very good success. Others have tried
shortcuts and those tend to have much more frequent problems. It really
is like your network, if you build it right it works pretty well but if
you take shortcuts they can come back to bite you.

I haven't been able to find much in the way of white papers for
information regarding VOIP over WiFi. If someone could share some info
with me I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Agreed Scott, as I said if you cut corners on either the VOIP or the
network you will have problems.

I find the success of VoIP exactly opposite of you. I directly relate
it
to the quality of the Wireless network it runs on... We do LOTS of
both.

We have found that the success of VOIP over WiFi is directly related
to
the quality of the VOIP provider. Some providers have higher QOS
built
into their system and those have very good success. Others have tried
shortcuts and those tend to have much more frequent problems. It
really
is like your network, if you build it right it works pretty well but
if
you take shortcuts they can come back to bite you.

Re: [WISPA] Hospitality WiFi

2009-09-15 Thread Layne Sisk
Most of the ISPs that we support who provide Hospitality WiFi put the
equipment in and charge the hotel on a per room basis. I believe that
most of the hotels simply provide the service free of charge.

We have a very very good AAA/Advertising system in place and I am
looking for new ways to leverage it.

A few questions for those who are doing Hospitality WiFi:
- Did you sell the system to the hotel or provide all of the
equipment/installation on your dime?
- What is your revenue split?
- Does the hotel charge for service or provide it with the room?

Not sure what other questions to ask but I'm sure they'll come up.

Thanks in advance

I've got a few non-paying subs, that we would like to get payment on.
It has reached over $1k from 4 subs over the past 6 months. Do you just
cut your losses and move on or what do you do? I'm contemplating small
claims court as it should be an open and shut case, but it's $91 in fees
per person. We've done the collection letter and it hasn't worked.

We got the please don't turn it off, I'm coming to pay...and it never
happened.

For those who may be using Google's branded services for ISPs can
someone tell me where to go to find more information and how is it
working for you. Currently we are running our email services on an out
of production email server that is no longer supported and behind a
Barracuda SF for spam protection. It is causing more problems than it's
worth. If it were up to me I'd have everyone switch to gmail or
something like that but of course people don't like to change their
email addresses.

Thanks
