[wsjt-devel] Bug report RC3 version

2018-04-07 Thread David Alloza
Hi,
There is a "easy to reproduct" bug in the RC3 version

The sequence:
170900 -17 0.1 1272 ~ CQ 3B8MM LG89
170918 Tx 1272 ~ 3B8MM F4HTQ JN25
170930 -15 0.1 1271 ~ CQ 3B8MM LG89
170945 Tx 1272 ~ 3B8MM F4HTQ JN25
171015 Tx 1272 ~ 3B8MM F4HTQ JN25
171000 -16 0.1 1272 ~ SP5MNT 3B8MM -12
171015 17 -0.2 1272 ~ 3B8MM F4HTQ JN25

3B8MM send a CQ
I respond to this CQ.
3B8MM don"t hear me.
3B8MM respond to SP5MNT station.

The software immediately switch to receive mode... ( this is the expected
behavior) but the audio output don't stop !.
Finally I decode my own audio emission ( 171015 17 -0.2 1272 ~ 3B8MM
F4HTQ JN25 ) with a SNR of 17.

After the bug occurred, I was unable to make new Tx. The software swtich to
Tx mode... but no audio is output. To restore the audio output I need to do
a sequence Halt Tx and Enable Tx

As PTT method I use VOX, I think this may be an important element.

Regards,
David, F4HTQ.

Re: [wsjt-devel] Second Public Test of FT8 DXpedition Mode: April 7, 1400-1600 UTC

2018-04-07 Thread Hasan al-Basri
Random callers below 1000 are ignored. Those who have already "engaged" the
Fox are automatically moved below 1000 to finish the qso...that's how the
software works.

Of course, there are those who have no idea what they are doing, can't read
and/or won't read, plus the deliberate qrm'ers...I saw one guy calling the
fox below 1000, at the same time the fox was transmitting. Obviously not
running the right version of the software.

There was lots of stuff like that.

BTW: K1JT and W7/KH7Z were both S9 +15 to 20 dB in Iowa with all 5 streams
> +3 most of the time.

I was using a club call W8BAR and got this.
It may help you debug or it may be my fault - I don't know.

I got about 7 "RR73" messages.

Interesting

I could not work them. Zero propagation in the east coast. Weak in the west.
However

Signals from W7/KH7Z were:

- if only one signal (i.e. CQ), he was -21 to -18

- if 3-5 signals, all signals were between -12 to -08.

Contrary to logic. Maybe, the close proximity to the 3-5 signals have an
additive effect on 1) the signal in the air , and/or 2) the signal in the
software?

2018-04-07 Thread charlie
Hi All

During the first test I saw many hounds sending R reports above 1000Hz.
I could copy Fox solidly with max number of slots running.

I did not hear Joe at all.

Fox signal in the second hour was very weak for most of the time. It
seemed then that most hounds were sending R reports below 1000Hz.

I had Save all on for the entire test. Available for a few days if needed.

2018-04-07 Thread John
I heard W1/KH7Z from 140130 until 143630 when all his transmissions suddenly
stopped. I called many times and eventually got a report at 143600

143600 -9 0.6 352 ~ OZ7AMG RR73; G4KLA -24

but never a follow up after transmissions stopped.

Thereafter I heard no other FOX calling until the end of the test at 16:00.
From 144245 I noticed many reponses to K1JT at frequencies less than 1000Hz and
others calling K1JT. But not once did I receive a direct transmission from
K1JT.

General propagation seemed very poor. No west coast stations were heard.

Re: [wsjt-devel] Second Public Test of FT8 DXpedition Mode: April 7, 1400-1600 UTC

2018-04-07 Thread Mike Lavelle
For the second hour, I (CM87) was in the skip zone of the AZ fox (DM43), so the
only time that I copied him (weakly) was when he called CQ on single frequency;
nothing else hear, presumably due to power drop when using multi-freqs...
perhaps the program should reduce power when using on channel, or maybe call CQ
on all unused channels at once (simpler), so that signal levels are more
constant? Anyway, DXped foxes need to consider this effect.

For the first hour, I copied W1/KH7Z just fine, but could not get him to
reply... you seemed to be aware to problems, so I won't belabor this. At the
half hour point, when Joe took over, I got thru pretty quickly and smoothly;
perhaps his ques hadn't clogged up as yet.

2018-04-07 Thread Tom Melvin
Afternoon

Took part in 1st test - after 30 odd mins Fox found me, would rather the 2 min
timeout was a little longer (4 mins or so - at least long enough to double
check docs or look at Ping thingy on another screen) - Fox moved me to below
1000 as expected - back and forward, Red Watchdog timeout kicked in - restarted
- then some W1xx :-) started calling below 1000 - then all went to pot -
lost the Fox, another TX Watchdog timeout - had to give up.

On the 2nd test - could not hear the fox at all.

Lot of time spent making sure was TX’ing :-(

WSJT-X 1.9.0-rc3 r8576
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

The watchdog timer in the bottom right-hand corner of the main window
seems to be wrong. It's showing a countdown from 6m instead of the
reduced DXpedition mode timeout.

All those who use FT-847 or similar satellite ground station must not
choose in Settings-->Radio
because the radio switches into satellite mode.

It well worth checking http://www.sk3bg.se/contest/ webpage to see what
kind of contests are planned for a -say a test day.
Today there is EA RTTY Contest is going on.
We all know there is no band plan during a contest like this.
It's simply may called anarchy.
(Iztok S52D was quite right!)

The pingjokey chat has been unreachable.

The time mark in WSJT-X at the left hand side buries the foxes.
That's all for today!
May you have endless patience to go on with developing DXp!

Re: [wsjt-devel] Second Public Test of FT8 DXpedition Mode: April 7, 1400-1600 UTC

2018-04-07 Thread F6BHK

Hi there

I found the use of the "Ping Jockey Relief" chat page was a very good
idea, and useful and working well!

I was able to hear steadily the first fox W1/KH7Z. Gave him a series of
call from 1402 Z (since the fox was late... never saw this case in real
life - I share my sofa with 2 Spanish greyhounds - galgos - and the
rabbits always hope the hounds will be late) till 1410 Z to no avail. I
had put my TX above 3500Hz; nobody was TXing up there.

Then from 1410 till 1430 I tries to move my freq between 2500Hz and
4000Hz. That led me to nowhere.

Then the bugs hit the fox and he gave up. Too bad, for I never heard his
Stand-in partner.

As for the W7/KH7Z fox, I never ever heard him calling. I guess the
propag was not top level and my low range station (Flex 5000A running
abt 90W max into a vertical R7) was not efficient enough to get my
signal cross half our world.

But I stayed listening.

I find that I heard a lot of people calling and sending reports, however
I find that the number of RR73 were not as numerous as they should have
been.

I was surprised to "see" in the waterfall the fox's sigs (up to
'yellowish' dots) whilst there were no decode at all.

All in all a very frustrating experience, I hope it'll be for the good!

Cheers
Serge

Re: [wsjt-devel] Second Public Test of FT8 DXpedition Mode: April 7, 1400-1600 UTC

2018-04-07 Thread John Becker
W1/KH7Z and K1JT were consistently loud in IL, about +10. I called for
the full hour trying different frequencies and power levels. No luck on
a QSO. Most stations being worked seemed to be either west coast or Europe.

W7/KH7Z was also loud. I worked him almost immediately with high power,
then again almost as fast with a club call and low power.

He was sending RR73 more than once. I was not replying to that as I
thought that was the end of the QSO and it was logged. Software bug?

A software suggestion: I keep the "Hold TX freq" box checked. After
using DXpedition mode and returning to normal mode, that setting is not
restored. Would this be possible? Thanks!

John, K9MM

Normal mode worked fine, worked F4HJO on 20m at 1628Z after the test.

[wsjt-devel] Split occurring - Non DX Exp Mode

2018-04-07 Thread Mark Rutherford
Morning Guys,

Regarding testing Apr7th 1400-1600 from OZ I was able to some hound
activity in the first 30min or so last night but not neither "KH7Z"
stations.

That said, this morning I've noticed that once I deactivated "hound" mode,
so its now in normal FT8 mode and the setting for split was still on RIG,
the SPLIT mode on the rig would reactivate even when I've manually turned
it off. I noticed this when I'm below the 900hz range will go -1.5khz
offset too.

I'm using WSJT in "rig split mode" using "Omni Rig 1" for CAT control. To
work around this feature I turn SPLIT "none" and all ok. But means before
going back into HOUND mode I'd need to remember to reenable it.

Should there be logic that if we are in Normal FT8 then regardless if you
have split enabled via config FT* should know to force 0hz offset and ie
appear not use SPLIT ?

Cheers
