[Xfce-bugs] [Bug 15088] New: name org.freedesktop.filemanager1 lost on message-dbus

2019-01-25 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15088

Bug ID: 15088
Summary: name org.freedesktop.filemanager1 lost on message-dbus
Classification: Xfce Core
   Product: Thunar
   Version: 1.8.3
  Hardware: Other
OS: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Medium
 Component: General
  Assignee: xfce-bugs@xfce.org
  Reporter: fbr...@gmail.com
CC: be...@xfce.org, hj...@xfce.org
  Target Milestone: 1.8.3

Right after arch linux upgrade to Thunar 1.8.3-2
I get the following message:

(thunar:3548): thunar-CRITICAL **: 07:34:20.348: Name
»org.freedesktop.FileManager1« auf dem Nachrichten-dbus verloren, wird beendet.

translation: 07:34:20.348: Name »org.freedesktop.FileManager1« lost
message-dbus, terminating

and Thunar does not start.

I am running arch with deepin desktop. I do have the deepin file manager
installed but prefer thunar, which is set as the default file manager. When I
downgrade to thunar 1.8.2-2 everthing works again.

Thanks for a great file manager!!

Yes, think it makes sense to close this report and open a gvfs bug / ask e.g .
in a gvfs forum.

Please feel free to reopen if thunar e.g. should use a differnt gvfs startup
procedure.

[Xfce-bugs] [Bug 15032] Shortcuts stop working for ~15s when connecting a USB keyboard

2019-01-25 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15032

I have done some more testing and think that this issue is probably caused by
xfsettingsd or libxfce4ui. I don't think that GDK should be blamed. Turns out
that GTK applications (such as gnome-system-monitor and gtk3-demo) don't
receive any keys-changed signals in KDE Plasma 5 session when I disconnect and
connect a USB keyboard. My simple Test_xfce_shortcuts_grabber_new application
(https://bugzilla.xfce.org/attachment.cgi?id=8263) creates XfceShortcutsGrabber
with xfce_shortcuts_grabber_new(), but does not receive these signals in the
KDE session either. However when I launch xfsettingsd in the KDE session, all
of the aforementioned applications (including xfsettingsd itself) start
receiving hundreds of keys-changed signals upon keyboard reconnection.

I can't figure out how xfsettingsd causes all GTK applications to receive
hundreds of these signals. Unless someone can help me debug this, I'll resort
to implementing the 5s-timer workaround from the penultimate paragraph in the
issue description.

IMO not an optimal solution. So it will be random which FileManager will be
picked.
But at least it would solve your conflict ... will do some testing and see if I
can provide a patch this or next evening.

Did you as well open a bug for Nautilus ?

Dolphin uses /usr/share/dbus-1/services / org.kde.dolphin.File Manager
1.service

Good point ! Uninstalling gvfs resolve the problem, but without gvfs, i can't
browse samba network shares.

Should I close this bug report and report it directly to gvfs team ?

One possibility would be to add "Thunar"/"Nautilus" to the name of the file ...
but that seems to be no good solution, and is not recommended by freedesktop
either:

From https://dbus.freedesktop.org/doc/dbus-daemon.1.html

> If a particular service is found in more than one , the first
> directory listed in the configuration file takes precedence.
> If two service files providing the same well-known bus name are found in the

So in this case, it would be arbitrary which filemanager is called .. not very
nice.

What about just overwriting the file and dont remove it after package uninstall
( ok, this is bad if the filemanager got uninstalled )

Or the other way around : Dont overwrite, remove on package uninstall ( could
lead to the question "why is this filemanager used, and not that?" )

The cleanest solution comming to my mind would be, to provide one dbus-1
per filemanager(package) installation. So the first directory
listed in the configuration file would win.

I am not a packager .. this dbus problem smells like it already must have been
solved in some way. Thunar probably is not the first package which provides
some dbus service which is provided by multiple packages. How it is done for
other dbus services which are provided by multiple packages ?

Thanks for the feedback,

Unfortunately, I have no way to link from the bugs.manjaro.org, since the
system is not public. Or I do not know the possibility.

I have informed bugs.manjaro.org that there is also a bug message on
bugzilla.xfce.org. gives.

As the bug passed under Manjaro, the idea was to report it there as well.
The clock jump comes from the German forum
https://de.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=9060.0

Thank you for your work and time.

while installing nautilus and thunar, there is a conflict of
/usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.freedesktop.File Manager 1.service
