XFree86 3.3.6 supports it in case you wanted to try that. Something else you can try is to use the 'vesa' driver. I'm not sure if your bios has sufficient VBE support to do it, but it's worth a shot. No, the XFree86 driver is definitely accelerated both 2D and 3D for all G-series. But if you have lost 3D acceleration, that is a more complicated issue than 2D (desktop) acceleration. 2D acceleration should be enabled on any screen that is using the 'mga' driver. Re: [XFree86] DRI compilation errors
You need to check out the Mesa module from /cvs/mesa and the xc module from /cvs/dri. Then, point the path in host.def under the DRI tree to the Mesa directory that you checked out. Re: [XFree86] xwindows problem with linux
This is a VFAQ (Very Frequently Asked Question). There is something wrong with your font server (xfs). It needs to either be restarted, or the problem causing it not to start must be located and fixed. To all: Why doesn't Red Hat configure the X server to look for a basic set of fonts via the filesystem instead of xfs, and only go to xfs for other fonts besides the ones necessary to start the server? It seems they are not taking advantage of the fact that the dependency on xfs was removed in XFree86 4.x. [XFree86] mga_vid VT switching hangs
Hi, Just a quick and silly question: does anyone know if there is a limitation in mga_vid's design, that causes a dead system when switching to a VT from X while mplayer is using it? Of course, this is one of those things where the obvious solution is "Don't do that then", but I'm curious if I'm the only one that has that problem. :) I have a G400MAX running dualhead with Matrox HAL, kernel 2.4.22, XFree86 4.3.0 on Debian. -- Ryan Underwood, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ___ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86

Also, scanning through the CHANGELOG, I see the following changes which might be relevant, all of which were made prior to 4.1.0 release: 434. Fix a problem with the mga G400 2nd head going into power saver mode when it should be blanked, and enable DPMS for the 2nd head (#A.358, Craig Leres). 842. Actually there is code around to drive the second head e.g. in the linux framebuffer subsystem and DirectFB, I guess it would only be a matter of someone taking the time to eliminate the necessity of the binary component by reusing code from one or more of those places.
