Re: [Zappa-List] Frank Zappa on Crossfire

2005-02-09 Thread Mark D.

I just saw the Crossfire segment last night. It was very interesting.
That guy, Lofton, is about the biggest asshole I've ever seen! His
rhetorical techniques are sovulgar and transparent. You can measure a
debater's character by the speed with which they invoke the evil word,
"Hitler." I wonder whatever happened to that prick? Frank, meanwhile,
seemed odd to me, particularly the way he kept moving his head around.
He must have been furious!

[Zappa-List] Boston 75-04-27 flac Offer

2005-03-13 Thread Mark D.

What follows is from SOFA's original offer. I'll get it out to whoever
mails me with address, off list, first.
Mark

With thanks to Ken Weston, I have this single disk to offer - and an
important announcement/point to make:
(I don't know where this disk originated, but the "contents" have
'morphed' over time; their not exactly what I expected.)

This disk contains MOST of the early show from Boston 750427 - but not
all. The 9 tracks in FLAC format equal these somgs:
Improvisations
Token Of My Extreme
Stinkfoot
I'm Not Satisfied
Carolina Hardcore Ecstasy
Velvet Sunrise
Pound For A Brown
Sleeping In A Jar
Poofter's Froth Wyoming Plans Ahead
Echidna's Arf
improvisations (incl Sam With The Showing Scalp Flat Top)
Don't You Ever Wash That Thing?

The final two tracks listed for that show (Advance Romance & Willie
The Pimp) are not on this disk...
Now, at some point, I am sure that I saw this offered up here as both
shows from that date; that may have been a different vine (if so,
would whomever is handling it right now contact me please?).

There is however, more to this disk than meets the eye: SHN files of
the Jimi Hendrix Experience at the Miami Pop Fstival 1968, 4 tracks of
soundboard quality. There's also a SHN file of the original vinyl
rendering of "...Green Genes", that sounds rather unique.
I'm prepared to offer this to the first to contact me (with a snail
mail addy, off-list) with a promise to reoffer.

We should all take care with the vines that we are transmitting
complete and factual info regarding the contents...
Regards,
SOFA

[Zappa-List] 80-06-21 Soundboard Two Disc Offer (wav)

2005-03-13 Thread Mark D.

I grabbed this from Zappateers. I didn't know how to burn the disc in
the original flac format so I converted the songs to wav. If someone
feels like writing me privately to tell me how I could have retained the
flac format I'd be very interested in hearing it. Meanwhile, first
caller gets a copy of the wav files. For what it's worth, it kicks ass
and sounds great. Not sure where the show was recorded, though.

Re: [Zappa-List] Off Topic Question to Audiophiles

2005-03-13 Thread Mark D.

I had the same problem recently and got the same clueslessness at Radio
Shack. The solution, my brother? Ebay. Thirty bucks. Had it in a week.
The seller I used also sends links to a handful of places to get the
necessary software to burn LPs to CD or to put on your hard drive. I
haven't followed up on that but my turntable works fine.

[Zappa-List] Bit Torrent Dilemnas

2005-03-13 Thread Mark D.

Greetings, community. I've been getting into Zappateers a bit lately,
and I'm wondering if someone on here can tell me if there is anything I
can do to increase my bit torrent download speeds. I believe I already
established a static IP address and my Windows firewall seems to have
made accomodations for my torrent client (called eXeem) for ports
6881-6888 or 6889 or so, but some of these shows are taking 24 hours or
more. I have a cable modem, btw. When I look at the the network
configuration of the client it says the listen port is 6881; does this
indicate that it is NOT using the higher ports? I hope these questions
are relevant; this stuff's new to me.

[Zappa-List] SNL 76 & 78 and Mudd ClubDVDs

2005-07-03 Thread Mark D.
Hi, folks. I received these in the mail yesterday and I appear to be the
last person on the list. I haven't been following the list lately so
maybe someone could let me know if I need to be sending these back out
to anyone.
Thanks, Mark in Michigan

[Zappa-List] Shankar/Touch Me There & Ponty/King Kong

2005-08-03 Thread Mark D.
I have tapes of both of these LPs and have enjoyed them a lot over the
years but don't know much about their respective origins. Would anyone
care to spin a little narrative about how these albums came to be?
Mark
