[ZION] Goiod news/bad news
The good news is that my Norton/Symantec virus scanner is catching the new viruses. The bad news is that I am getting so many, that my virus detection screen is popping up faster than I can enter dates into my TroopMaster software for Scouts! In my last batch, it caught about 13-15 infected emails. Yikes! I can't believe that people don't have anti-viral software. McAfee (is that it?) doesn't catch the virus. I know this because our virus software at work is - well was until today - McAfee. We are now switching to Norton/Symantec, like I have had at home for several years. However, my 'puter didn't get infected because I NEVER open any attachment that I am not expecting, or that I don't verify somehow. I hope none of you are in the same boat as so many other people obviously are. We have no promise that our leaders will not lead "us" astray. The promise is that they will not lead "the Church" astray. Each of us has the Holy Ghost to provide personal, individualized protection. I say, listen to the Holy Ghost. He will guide us when to follow our leaders and when to refuse. And I dare say that he will guide us that our inspiration is for ourselves only lest some other foolishly throw the baby out with the bath water. Because even when we get bad counsel, our leader is still our leader. Still, I have never heard one of the General Authorities recommend that we be unfaithful to our wives, or become involved in recreational drugs, etc. But if I do, I'll certainly run it past the Holy Ghost to see if I should follow such counsel. Just how realistic is the problem of such counsel? John W. Redelfs [EMAIL PROTECTED] === "There is no place in this work for those who believe only in the gospel of doom and gloom. [ZION] What If They're Wrong? (was: The September Six Today
Something which I've settled in my mind and thought I had no problem with is the same problem that these folks - and most of us at one time or another - have had: What about the times when our priesthood leaders are incorrect? Unlike many denominations, the Church of Jesus Christ has never insisted that our leaders are infallable. There are many instances similar to the times when President Brigham Young would return to the pulpit and say something along the lines of "This morning, you heard from Brother Brigham. Brother Brigham wasn't quite right. Now you'll hear what the Lord says." Since we have strong personal responsibility to have a witness of the Holy Ghost as to whether our leaders are leading us correctly, what do we do when a priesthood leader is doing wrong? How high up the "chain of command" do we go before we reach a point where we say that we must be misunderstanding the leader, he (she) can't possibly be leading us astray? RE: [ZION] The September Six Today
Jon Spencer: [on Gileadi] My understanding of Isaiah expanded tremendously when I read his first book ... Isn't it interesting that it was he and he alone who humbled himself. ___ It is my understanding that, though part of his writing was considered controversial by some, there were other issues involved in his departure from the Church which he resolved, resulting in his return. His link to the "September Six" may well be tenuous. I do not mention this to start a discussion about him, because he is not on this list and I do no plan to talk about it. I would simply like to echo your comment about the difference between his experience and the experience of the others, which was quite noticeable in the article John quoted. There is much to say for listening to our priesthood leaders and being humble, no matter what the circumstances. Larry Jackson The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Isn't it interesting that it was he and he alone who humbled himself. Jon Avraham Gileadi's best and most inspired book, in my opinion, was, _The Book of Isaiah: A New Translation with Interpretative Keys from the Book of Mormon_. But more specifically, the 93 page introduction where one is introduced to the various interpretative keys. Whatever Gileadi's past mistakes might have been, I too am impressed by his humility. I, too, have the utmost respect for Brother Gileadi's insights into such an important work as Isaiah. I refuse to go the route of speculating. By his works I will know him. The others that were talked about gave me feelings of having pushed my hand into a warm bucket of 3 month old milk.
