You could perhaps install all of the contents of that package (plus any
other packages that are required and similarly situated), and that might
well work.

I'm pretty sure that you could _not_ install the package. The
SUNW_PKG_ALLZONES and SUNW_PKG_HOLLOW markings on it will, I believe,
cause it to be rejected on local zones.

Okay, that's good information. I can then install it manually and things
should work. I'll try in the morning.

Thanks

SUNWmcc, which is the package that includes /usr/sbin/smc, is for some
reason marked "hollow", that its contents should be installed only on the
global zone, but the package should appear for bookkeeping purposes in local
zones.

Why this is I could not tell you, but it does explain why /usr/sbin/smc is
not installed in your zone.

Thanks for the reply. I am talking about the Solaris Management Console. I
have a whole-root zone and those two services are running. However, there is
no /usr/sbin/smc in my whole-root zone. It's like the whole-root
installation didn't even install it. Very odd.

Any idea, besides these two services, on how to get this working? It seems
there must be a way to mount the global zone /usr/sbin/smc into the local
zone and then successfully launch it from there?

We run the Solaris Management Console on at least one sparse zone,
so it should just work on a whole root zone. Be aware that there are at
least two services (SMF) that need to be running for it to work. I set it up
months ago and don't remember the specifics ...
svc:/application/management/sma:default and
svc:/application/management/wbem:default I *think* were the two I needed.

Now, if you are talking about the Sun Management Center console, I
was never able to get it (under 3.6.1) to install and run in a Non-Global
Zone of any type. The server ran fine in a Whole Root Zone, but the
installer refused to install just the console component in an NG Zone.

Well the answer is very straightforward (at least for me). DNS is a
service that doesn't require the global zone, so it is better in a non-
global zone. We run all of our DNS servers in non-global zonse.
Especially for security this is a good thing, as well known DNS
servers have security vulnerabilities form time to time. In the case
of a non global zone only the zone is compromised and the attacker
can't penetrate as deep as he could in a global zone.

So long

Hi Users,

I have a question on DNS, Is it better to be DNS on Global-zone rather than
   in localzone?
I would like to know the pros and cons of DNS to be in global zone than
   local zone. Pl. suggest me
