I suppose (?) it's not too late for releasing zope.app.locales 3.4.2
and integrating it in zope 3.4.0 because there is few risks related to
translations. And it's a very good way to learn the path from the po
file up to the final zope release :)

Actually it would be nice to see all other translations updated.

Thanks for the useful links! The next question is: can someone add me
(hdima) to the list of people which can upload zope.app.locales to PyPI? :-)

[Zope] undo error

2008-02-06 Thread Webmaster

Hi,

I am getting an error when trying to undo the deletion of a form created
with PloneFormGen. One of the users on the site created a second copy of
the form which received some submissions in error prior to its deletion
and I was hoping to undo the delete to get the saved data. Is it
possible to determine which subsequent changes need to be undone prior
to being able to undo the delete.

Here is the error:

You can use the z3c.recipe.egg:editable recipe. I briefly tried that,
but it did not work for our (Zest Software) internal password
protected subversion repository, where we keep the code for our
clients. The recipe tries to easy_install a package but it fails as
it cannot use our repository without a password.

You can use the #egg trick within the [buildout] find-links variable,
then add lovely.buildouthttp to take care of the svn login.

You will need a simple .httpauth file in your HOME/.buildout directory

Thanks for yours and Maurits hints. I actually tried the recipe
Maurits mentioned without success, but just yesterday an extension was
published at pypi, which does exactly solves this problem.

http://pypi.python.org/pypi/gp.svndevelop/0.1

Besides I didn't know that there is an extension mechanism besides
recipes.

One of our repositories is also password protected, but after the
first successful login with an interactive svn session on the console
this is not an actual issue.

With regards and appreciation for the help

Yes that's how lovely.buildouthttp is hooked (a extension), to add
authentication.
So no interactive session is required at all. You should try it, it's very
handy.

For svndevelop, beware that your buildout syntax will therefore depend on
this
extension. Regular develop are fine, if you have a buildout-friendly layout
in your subversion: you can checkout a whole tree and use relative paths
in your buildout.

[Zope] When to use a relational database

2008-02-06 Thread quizzical

Hi everyone,

Apologies if this is a dumb question, I have had a good look through the
archives and on the web. My question is basically about how to design a
website. I really like the ease with which you can build applications in
zope but I often see comments implying that in order to scale well one may
want to use a backend relational datbase. I have also seen several comments
to the effect that one should keep the state of a user session out of the
ZODB.

I am slightly confused by this, I can't find any information which would
help me decide what data would be better off in a relational database.

Example, to learn my way around zope I am deesigning a simple blogging
application which allows people to log into the site and see blogs they have
subscribed too. I would represent the blog posts as a series of ZPT
documents. Two questions, is it better to represent the blog posts as
objects in the database or as records in an external relational database?
And as regards users, should I use Zope's userfolders for authentication or
an external database of usernames and passwords?

Again I apologize if this is a ridiculous question and if someone can point
me in the direction of some good resources about the overall design of a
zope site that would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance

You are right: DTML is only rarely used nowadays and its support
deteriorates.

I do not know of a product or patch to improve on this
(also I modified our local Zope to at least report which
DTMLObject caused a problem).

You can improve it by adding __traceback_info__
or __traceback_supplement__ definitions at strategic places
in the DMTL implementation.

[Zope] Character display issues upgrading 2.8.8 to 2.9.8

2008-02-06 Thread John Schinnerer

Aloha,

I am in the process of moving from zope 2.8.8 to zope 2.9.8 (running on
debian 4.0).

I am transferring individual zope sites from 2.8.8 instance to 2.9.8
instance via export/import. So far everything is fine except...

I have some content in StructuredDocument objects that includes text
with some accented French characters, and some of the curly quotes (the
6--9 quotes) and real apostrophes and that sort of thing. They are not
displaying correctly in the 2.9.8 zope - they show up as whatever symbol
the browser uses to say oops, can't display this correctly.

Both zopes are running on my dev system and I'm looking with all the
same browsers so it seems it must be something to do with zope handling
the characters (or not).

The zope.conf settings for default-zpublisher-encoding are left at the
default (iso-8859-15) in both instances, if that is relevant.

I've never had any problem like this before, such as in previous
upgrades of 2.7.x to 2.8.x. I don't even know where to look, aside from
the zope.conf setting above which is the same in both cases.

Any ideas why this is happening?
Any help appreciated!

thanks,
John S.
