[Zope3-dev] zope 3 wiki cleanup
I was saying on irc earlier: I think we should start to organize the z3 wiki a bit more to make it web-app-developer-friendly and sysadmin-friendly as well as zope-framework-developer-friendly. The simplest thing is to do it in the same wiki for now, perhaps using a hierarchy like the one at http://wiki.zope.org/zope2 . I didn't hear any protests, so I've started a bit of exploratory reparenting - this is a heads-up to let you know what I'm up to. I hope not to make things worse, but it's easy enough to fix in any case. Comments, help welcome! ___ Zope3-dev mailing list Zope3-dev@zope.org Unsub: http://mail.zope.org/mailman/options/zope3-dev/archive%40mail-archive.com

I've just posted a followup; the wiki should be back to normal now. ___ Zope3-dev mailing list Zope3-dev@zope.org Unsub: http://mail.zope.org/mailman/options/zope3-dev/archive%40mail-archive.com
[Zope3-dev] Re: wiki site broken in IE
Hi Roger.. I believe this was due to my hosting provider migrating to a new server. If all is not fine now, let me know. Either way, skin improvements are welcome, currently the master copy is the .pt templates at http://wiki.zope.org/zope , let me or Michael know if you want a login. Let's use new wiki now onwards. Sooner or later this will be wiki.zope.org We have to make current wiki read only very soon. How do you feel about this folks ? I'd like to make the old zope 3 wiki read-only and activate the subscriptions on the new one. A small but good step forward from the present situation of two identical writable wikis. ___ Zope3-dev mailing list Zope3-dev@zope.org Unsub: http://mail.zope.org/mailman/options/zope3-dev/archive%40mail-archive.com
[Zope3-dev] Re: Grrr. zope.org wikis are evil.
+1, they are an embarrassment. I am available to migrate them into the modern era, fix the broken configuration, etc. I would also support someone who wants to extract the content to moinmoin/mediawiki/svn if that were decided, though I think that would be sad :) (or not! better than moldering along for another few years). I can see why trac is also attractive. Jim, I'm about to oversimplify and sound ungrateful and hopefully out of date. Here it is: I honestly do not understand why you have not at some point made it your business to do something about zope.org ? My thinking goes like this: you invented zope, you are a principal of ZC, you have the root password on that server; we out here can do a lot, but without that power we essentially can't cure zope's crufty web presence. Specifically, I'm talking (in this thread) about getting one of the key tools used to publish Zope documentation upgraded or replaced. I've almost lost interest at this point. Not that I matter so much, but I'm at least somewhat representative. Forgive me for ranting to you of all people, who has given us such beautiful work. I'd like to understand better. ___ Zope3-dev mailing list Zope3-dev@zope.org Unsub: http://mail.zope.org/mailman/options/zope3-dev/archive%40mail-archive.com

Doh! I spent about an hour tracking this down, and then thought no, too offtopic. :) +1 if you haven't already read about it. Pythomnic's approach seems to enable some very nice properties. [Zope3-dev] Re: Selecting a code name
You're right, googling Zope 3 works well surprisingly enough. For the record, I'm +.9 on sticking with Zope 3 for the moment, not ruling out adding a codename or marketing tagline in future if we found one that really fit. There *is* some bad feeling associated with Zope - but also a lot of respect and I'd like to see us stand by our name and drive out the badness. I think an excellent django/ror/turbogears-style website is all the Zope brand needs to win. ___ Zope3-dev mailing list Zope3-dev@zope.org Unsub: http://mail.zope.org/mailman/options/zope3-dev/archive%40mail-archive.com
[Zope3-dev] Re: Wiki subscription on mailing list?, hosting offer
Latest zwiki allows each subscriber to choose all edits or just the comments/creations, which is enough for most people. NB if the community wants, I would host the zope3 wiki on the zopewiki.org server for as long as that's useful - until zope3.org or whatever. This would allow us to fix a number of problems and benefit from the latest enhancements. ___ Zope3-dev mailing list Zope3-dev@zope.org Unsub: http://mail.zope.org/mailman/options/zope3-dev/archive%40mail-archive.com

[Zope3-dev] Re: zope3 website report?
For reference, http://zopewiki.org is an up-to-date zope 2 zwiki (see joyful.com for others), with mail-out/mail-in/external editor etc. enabled. If you haven't checked it recently, please do check the new organization by audience (down the left of the front page). I did a html-only zwiki demo for Jim which may have helped spark some ideas. I'm undecided on moving to straight html; +1 on trying it, for sure. Edits to large pages should be faster - no need to parse stx/rst. I'm not a huge fan of reST as it is not very forgiving and it is just obscure in places (linking). (I think stx really works well, except that the indentation rules are just too unexpected for new users.) The mature zope 2 zwiki's features have a certain usability and polish which I'd miss, but I'm really looking forward to checking out the new zope 3-based site/prototype/experiment. It's always good to see alternatives running in the real world and see what works and what doesn't. ___ Zope3-dev mailing list Zope3-dev@zope.org Unsub: http://mail.zope.org/mailman/options/zope3-dev/archive%40mail-archive.com
