what if you create a new user account on the same Mac,
login as the other user, and use 4D from that Desktop?

I ask, because I've had similar experiences with M. Excel in the past,
where (maybe) the preferences info plist file or some other support file was
corrupt in my primary account.

I think the fastest way to a resolution would be to verify you have the same
problem in 17R6 beta. If it is fixed, likely nothing will be done about it in
R5. If it is not fixed, you can file a bug report directly on the forum.

4D v17 Property List Issues - is this only me?

2019-10-01 Thread Daniel Solenthaler via 4D_Tech
Hi everyone,

Working in Design mode on a form, I find the following behaviour of 4D v17 a
nuisance:

In 4D v16 I can click onto a cell of the property list and the cell content is
immediately highlighted and modifiable.

In 4D v17R5 I click onto a cell of the property list and nothing happens. It
takes 3 seconds and a „slow double click“ to highlight the cell content.

Is it only me, or does anyone else have this problem? Anything that can be done
about it?

Using macOS 10.13.6.

Thanks,

David,

4Dv17R4 has:

Print Settings to Blob
Blob to Print Settings
https://doc.4d.com/4Dv17R4/4D/17-R4/Print-settings-to-BLOB.301-4055206.en.html
https://doc.4d.com/4Dv17R4/4D/17-R4/BLOB-to-print-settings.301-4055236.en.html

These combined with the name of the report being printed, the printer name, and
the current user name, should work to make saving and restoring settings for
repeatedly printed reports.

So in a 64-bit environment, how do you save paper size, orientation etc. with a
form, so that PAGE SETUP ([MyTable];"MyForm") will load those settings?

I think this is the new (64-bit) behaviour for dialType:0

https://doc.4d.com/4Dv17/4D/17.1/PRINT-SETTINGS.301-4179613.en.html

that said, the Design Reference is a bit vague on this point

https://doc.4d.com/4Dv17/4D/17.1/Printing-a-form.300-4201214.en.html

"A Print Setup dialog box appears, which lets you modify the specific print
settings of the form: paper format, orientation, etc. The options available in
this standard dialog box depend on your system configuration. "

You might consider abandoning PAGE SETUP and instead use the SET PRINT OPTION
command. It can do the same thing as PAGE SETUP, but the added bonus is that it
is cross platform. A saved PAGE SETUP done on macOS cannot reliably be used on
Windows.

https://doc.4d.com/4Dv17/4D/17.1/SET-PRINT-OPTION.301-4179600.en.html

To me PAGE SETUP is the “old way” of doing the things SET PRINT OPTION does
now.

2019-04-10 Thread Koen Van Hooreweghe via 4D_Tech
Hi David,

Use 'Settings' from the property list. Then in the Print dialog use
'Preferences' button. You will be able to set orientation. Button 'Advanced...'
will give you more options (like paper size) depending on the driver.

A bit of a hassle, I agree (and that is why I'm working on mac ;-). I tested in
32 bits setting a certain form to A5 landscape en then checked in 64 bit, the
settings were saved.

Hi David,

AFAIK this is OS behavior difference between 32bit and 64bit. Just try any
other 32bit or 64bit windows app and print. As far as those apps don't roll out
their own print dialogs (like Word...)

Kirk,

32 vs 64 bit.

The redesigned window in 64 bit doesn't have this functionality.

How to show / hide all on Property List in v16?

2017-08-10 Thread Kirk Brooks via 4D_Tech
In prior versions when working with a form and the Property List is
displayed I could show/hide all panes on the list by holding the Control
(not the Command) key and clicking on one of the pane triangles. This
doesn't work for me in v16.

I've tried on two different Macs, one running Sierra and the other
Yosemite. And I've tried every combination of modifiers I can think of.

I believe I asked about this before. Is there some option I may have either
set or unset to cause this? Really annoying.

Thanks

Property list in 4D 16.1HF2 looks old

Hi,

I noticed that the property list looks "old", i.e. with sunken checkboxes
The look and feel looks like something from years ago
Does anybody know what could be the reason of this?

Yes I knew, not because I read the doc but it was shown at last summit.

There's something's missing in 4D documentation: history. When working with
many versions, it takes a disproportionate time to find when a feature was
added to a command or to get the changes in naming… I'd like the doc to "Join
the R-release revolution" too.

They’re a great addition to the UI tools.
I use them in 4D v15.2 and the users like them a lot!
(still using that version as Print Preview causes 4D to freeze in v15.4 - but
it seems I am the only developer it happens to)

Yep, it's a very welcome feature. And you can set it programmatically! :-)

Re: "Placeholder" in property list

2017-04-22 Thread Keith Culotta via 4D_Tech
That new feature has been a help with clutter. I was unable to use it a
numeric field until the field's format was set to something where the zero
value was hidden, like ";-;". When the field does not have the focus,
the placeholder appears.

"Placeholder" in property list

2017-04-22 Thread Jeffrey Kain via 4D_Tech
Has anyone noticed that in 15.4 (HF2... maybe others) there's a new property
for fields and variables called 'Placeholder' that automatically fills an empty
field with descriptive text in a light gray font color, which disappears when
you type or the variable receives a value?

It's been awhile since I read the v15 documentation but I was surprised to see
it there!

Re: How to collapse/expand all panes in Property List (v16)

2017-03-29 Thread Kirk Brooks via 4D_Tech
Keith,
Bear in mind I'm only talking about the Properties List that's available in
development mode. I haven't seen anything on the end-use side involving
this. So it's probably not too big a deal. I think if it were more folks
would have seen it and said something.

If this disparity between 32 bit 4D and 64 bit 4D exists for other than the
developer interface stuff, !hat’s quite scary thought!

With testing done in standalone and deployed on server = server could have bugs
not there in test version.
That also means 2 complete sets of testing is required - one for standalone and
one for client/server.
That’s a *big* extra burden.
We are still in v15.2 so it doesn’t apply, but what are you v16 users doing for
testing deployment versions?

Hey Wayne,
That might well be it - you're right I'm using the 64 bit vers. I'll put in
a bug report.

Hi,

At a guess 64 bits is behaving differently than 32 bits.

My guess is Kirk is using 64bit.

Might be a good feature request.

I'm only on my phone so can't check but I reckon that's it.

Cheers?

How to collapse/expand all panes in Property List (v16)

2017-03-26 Thread Kirk Brooks via 4D_Tech
Hi folks,

In v16 it seems I the ability to collapse all panes in the Property List
(when editing a form) is removed. Since at least v13 you could control
click on a pane arrow to collapse/expand all. Now that doesn't work - at
least on a Mac.

Is this a bug or a feature?
