I feel that disability shouldn't be disclosed at the initial Interaction!
because disability is not a skill set required for the job, so if you
were selected for the Interview or face-face interaction, you could
take this topic and explain them how things work.
I don't really think majority of the companies are so insensitive these
days.

it's from my experience.
instead of trying through organizations working for the Blind, it
would be better if you let the company know your strengths.
this will be helpful if you want to get into companies which are not
in their(organizations working for the Blind) database.
I think once upon a time before these organizations approached those
companies, they were unaware about capabilities of the disabled.
so why not approach them yourself and sensitize companies you want to
join?

there are people who never understand though you explain, in that
case there will be other opportunities, but first please give it a
try!!!
majority of the people do listen though.

thanks and regards,

I agree with Vamshi that when one is into such situation, it would be
helpful to loop in organisations like Enable India who can have a

Hi Tejaswi,

If you want to get into private companies, its better to approach
organisations like Enable India at Bangloore who would have some
database of companies which are sensitive to disabled. They indeed
place some people depending on the academics and skillset. Otherwise
you can try for bank jobs which pay decent salaries. Of course, I'm
not discouraging you from trying in private sector. you may call me
to discuss further on this.

Re: [AI] I am sharing the incident happened to me in the afternoon:

2016-10-01 Thread Preeti Monga
Disability is not our fault and there is nothing to hide about it! It is better
to inform about your disability right in the beginning, to avoid discomfort. I
know it discourages others to hire us, but if someone has to get discouraged,
they will do so anyway!
Now, I have been working actively in the area of employment of PWDs in the
corporate sector, and in the private sector, and have personally visited over
450 companies of all sizes and industry, and here below is what I have faced:

People in corporate are now wanting to hire some PWDs, to fulfill their CSR
needs, but very few, almost none actually want to do this for any other reason!
They approach Silver Linings for disability hiring, but there are lots of
things attached to these demands! Like there should be mild disability,
communication skills should be excellent and candidates should not be visually
impaired! If at all they do give me positions to get PWD candidates for, mostly
they take months to complete the hiring process, and then suddenly they tell
me that this process has been put on hold for the moment and that they will
come back to me when it gets started again! Or they have hired someone from
their own reference! They keep calling me for meetings, to understand how they
should go about hiring PWDs, but nothing happens beyond that in most cases.
They do hire PWDs in front line positions but how many stay there is
everyone's guess! Let me tell you, that over the last decade, I have been able
to place just about 40 PWDs in good companies on good positions, most of these
are visually impaired, and most are working very well, but there now is a big
issue of their growth and promotions in their companies! Situation is tough.
Also, once we get positions, we don't find suitable disabled candidates to send
 for these job openings!

Therefore, I keep telling all of you to keep sending me resumes of good
candidates!

Although I am all the time telling the corporate that disability is not a
qualification, they seem to not want to accept that! There are of course
exceptions to this rule, but I am sharing my experience with you all!

The fight is on, and if we all come together, we are going to succeed!

So don't worry, our disability is nothing we need to hide, instead you guys out
there are brillieant and one of these days we are going to get the corporate
world to realize this and we are going to make place into this sector in a big
way, as so many of us are now working towards this cause!

But, holding on to a job is also a skill that we need to learn! The job market
is tough for everyone! Once we do get a job, we need to be good at what we do
and need to grow our skills and learn the skill of properly keeping ourselves
in the mainstream and compete with the rest! I know we will win!

Warmly

Preeti

Hi Sadaf,

If you just want to read with jaws and you like the eloquence voice,
Find reader is very good. Kerzweil has its own voices which are more
human like but I don't find the recognition much accurate in kerzveil.

Thank you for sharing. This is indeed a great document, well written. I'm
sure a lot of effort has put in. And as I said earlier, a continues
follow-up should be taken to ensure it's read by all stakeholders and take
necessary action. Please be assured I'm available for any support that I
can provide at a personal level.

All the best,

Re: [AI] I am shareing the incident happened to me in the afternoon:

2016-10-01 Thread Srinivasu Chakravarthula
I would take legal steps only when we finish all other possible ways of
approaching. As I understand Nagababu's case, I think it's just due to lack
of awareness. Whether we like it or not, it's fact that people cannot
believe that people with disabilities can work independently until they see
us in person. That's the very reason, I would suggest, there is no need to
disclosing disability at the very first phone interaction. Of course, we
can disclose, if there is a question from the recruiter about it.

Even if we consider filing a case in the court, how can we probe that
company has rejected on the grounds of disability? Have they given it in
writing? or even verbally? They seem to have said they would get back after
discussing with their management.

With due respect, I have seen even organisations that claim to be working
for blind where they get surprised to see a blind person using smart phone;
I'm talking about people who work for an organisation working for about two
decades; if that is the case, how do we expect a person who may have never
seen a blind person in life to believe that we can use technology and work
independently?

I agree with Vamshi that when one is into such situation, it would be
helpful to loop in organisations like Enable India who can have a dialog.
At a personal level, I'll be happy to exchange emails / have a few phone
conversations with employer if needed.

Many thanks,
Srinivasu

[AI] Reliance Communications Launches Post-paid Bills in Braille for the blind

2016-10-01 Thread avinash shahi
Anil Ambani-led Reliance Communications (RCom) today announced the
launch of Braille Bill service for providing postpaid bills to the
visually impaired.
http://www.deccanherald.com/content/89075/content/215869/winds-change.html
The Braille Bill service is part of convenience options that Reliance
Mobile is introducing in the Indian market for its over 110 million
mobile subscribers, RCom said in a statement.
Its a first-ever initiative taken by an Indian telecom operator, it said.

The service is in line with the Reliance ADA Group's corporate social
responsibility objectives, it added.

"There are currently 45 million people suffering from complete visual
impairment across the globe. Out of these, nearly 12 million reside in
India. Our new service is in line with our objective to delight our
customers through innovations that touch their lives," RCom President
(Corporate-Customer Service) Anurag Prashar said.

The service will be available free of cost, he added. It will be
available for postpaid customers across all product lines of RCom's
wireless business.

The bill will provide key details of current usage, bill amount, last
dues, last payment and adjustments made.
