HiIt plays only fm stations like Radio Mirchi, etc; besides all the stations world over through tune in radio. There is no provision for USB or recording but you can play kindle books in the echo plus, which cost me 10.5K as introductory price. For details about skills which can be configured, you may look up the alexa app.ThanksA K Dua+919876727460www.ourcivilsociety.comFrom: Asudani, Rajesh rajeshasud...@rbi.org.inSent: Thu, 12 Apr 2018 10:45:30To: AccessIndia: a list for discussing accessibility and issues concerning the disabled. accessindia@accessindia.org.inSubject: Re: [AI] Google Home and Google Home Mini available in IndiaDoes Indian version play Radio?I mean FM/AM?Or only internet Radio.Does it accept USB drive? And recording?-Original Message-From: AccessIndia [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Kiran KajaSent: 12 April 2018 10:09To: AccessIndia: a list for discussing accessibility and issues concerning the disabled.Subject: Re: [AI] Google Home and Google Home Mini available in IndiaBoth are smart speakers which means they have the Assistant built in. Re: [AI] Google Home and Google Home Mini available in India
Dear Pranav, As you know, these devices are not something people must have. they are for those who want to try out new things and get that little extra convenience. some good uses are: Keep telling these devices to add things to your to do or shopping list. You can ask them to read out the lists anytime or else you can also check them in your mobile when you are in the market. Being able to do this totally hands-free is certainly a convenience. Set reminders or alarms just by talking. Ask for weather, news or information. Tinkering with the touch screens for everything is sometimes a pain and the process is not as quick. Listen to music or radio in good quality. for example many blind people would like to ask Alexa to play BBC Hindi from the bed in the morning. You can leave it playing ambient sounds during the day such as instrumental music, ocean sounds, flute etc. Do lots of fun things: you can ask Alexa to tell you jokes, stories, weird things, play games etc. Useful for entertaining and informing children: From nursery rhymes to science and maths questions, it can really amuse children. Senior citizens may like to use it, there are no touch screens or buttons to learn. the downside is that they are working only in English. You can have high quality hands free calls between Alexa devices. For example, if you buy Amazon echo you could ask Alexa to call me and we could talk using these speakers. I can also take the call in my Alexa mobile app when I am not at home. thanks, Prashant -Original Message- From: AccessIndia [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of pranav@gmail.com Sent: 14 April 2018 06:29 To: 'AccessIndia: a list for discussing accessibility and issues concerning the disabled.' <accessindia@accessindia.org.in> Subject: Re: [AI] Google Home and Google Home Mini available in India Prashant, What are your use cases for the amazon echo and or google home? I have both Amazon Echo and Google Home. At this time, there are more Indian services on Amazon probably because it has been in the market for some time already. As of today I would advise people to go for Amazon Echo. I think both of them will be close competitors. Accessibility wise there is no challenge. The build quality and sound is very good. thanks, Prashant -Original Message- From: AccessIndia [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Kiran Kaja Sent: 12 April 2018 10:09 To: AccessIndia: a list for discussing accessibility and issues concerning the disabled. <accessindia@accessindia.org.in> Subject: Re: [AI] Google Home and Google Home Mini available in India Both are smart speakers which means they have the Assistant built in. Re: [AI] Google Home and Google Home Mini available in India
Hi Kiran Perhaps you could give more insight on the features, accessibility, its power output etc. I am sure you would have used it extensively. I understand, it automatically adjusts the audio settings depending the accostics of the room. It has Google assistant etc. Does it have a Line-in jack? What about radio and recording facility? Someone told me that the Caravan music player which has thousands of old Hindi songs is backed by Google. I don't know of its authenticity. Maybe you can throw light on it too.
