Hello friend,
I am closely watching narrator development sins windows10. And I am
happy about they provide high quality voices in win 11 and they also
consider extension policy however they are not open for developer. one
suggestion, open extension policy or make extension like
Translate which can power by Microsoft translator
And extensions for software or software group like
Mozilla software
VLC,gom, pot
Full support for offices like ms office, open office google Etc
at least developer tool like vs code, vs 2022
do this and you don’t have ask to use people to use narrator as
default screen reader

RE: [AI] Microsoft: looking for user connects

2023-10-20 Thread Yamuna Jivana Dasa (Yoganathan Khandoo)
Hello to all on this thread.

For Narrator to become a screen-reader of preference, the most important
consideration is that it must be customizable for Apps that have not been
specifically designed with standard Windows controls, tab-orders, and labelled
graphics to name a few. The screen-reader must have features to allow the user
to search for specific parent and child windows within applications, build hot
spots, apply shortcut keys to reach that spot and or interact with that spot in
specific ways as the mouse user would, to label graphical buttons, Etc, so that
interactive interfaces can be customized for unfriendly Apps. Failing these
things Narrator will remain an emergency-case screen-reader for simple tasks
like installing and configuring Windows, or for launching a more customizable
screen-reader.

I have been a technology accessibility trainer in South Africa for many years
until last year November when I relocated to India. You are welcome to contact
me for further discussion if desired.

Hello mam,

I am a hardkore NVDA user.

The thing with Narrater is that, it doesn't have the robustness or reliability
like an NVDA or even JAWS.

You cannot be confident that it will work everywhere and so is preferred only
as a backup screen-reader.

Also, the shortcuts are not easy to get used to.

It would be great if Narrator had a practical tutorial like Voice Over instead
of this long webpage with shortcuts listed on it.

Basically, I mean, Narrator has to become a very robust software which works
everywhere and is very appealing to use which could lead to change in
preference.

I have been using jaws for 22 years. I use NVDA for Bengali only. I have
used narrator only when I had to install jaws or NVDA on a new computer or
install or repair windows.

Microsoft has introduced many new languages including bengali in immersive
reader. Bengali tts is excellent. It should be included in narrator's list
of languages.

Hi Nidhi,

Thank you for joining us on this platform! I wanted to share my
thoughts on the importance of having a dedicated screen reader for
Windows, much like VoiceOver is for iOS and Mac platforms. Narrator
has made some great strides, introducing natural voices, but we need
it to evolve further to provide comprehensive support for Windows and
other applications. It's a crucial step to make the digital world more
accessible for everyone.

Looking forward to your thoughts on this.

I used narrator since it was introduced in windows 2000. later with
windows xp and 7. Still it is not my choice as a primary screen reader.
The main disadvantage of this inbuilt screen reader is, it don't support
non-microsoft products and also old versions of microsoft products.

Re: [AI] Microsoft: looking for user connects

2023-10-17 Thread Amar Jain
Hi Nidhi,Off late Narrator has significantly improved. But the general stand of the MS was always that they intend narrator to work not as the primary screen reader but as something which works well in conjunction with third party screen reader. With your email below, is there a change in leadership or that’s an individual contribution you want to make by gathering user inputs? If it is the former, that would be quite a welcome change! In any case, I fall amongst the users in the second category and would be happy to contribute to make narrator more viable option.Feel free to reach out to me on +91-9892622230 / amarj...@amarjain.comThanks,Amar JainSent from my iPhoneOn Oct 17, 2023, at 23:01, Nidhi Jain wrote:
