Just to add one more computer to the line, mine doesn't power off
either. I got some advice from Kubuntu Forum members which didn't work.
Anyway here they are:
- ading rmmod ndiswrapper to the top of /etc/init.d/halt
- activating TermianteServer=true in /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc
- adding acpi=force and
Not sure I should throw this out there, but I'd like to confirm that the
Restart/Shutdown issue doesn't seem to affect Xubuntu at all. I
installed it over my previous Kubuntu installation after I figured I
didn't need a 2nd KDE system on my machine (MEPIS). It's still the same
AMD X2 64-bit machi

Please try 2.6.21.
Do remember to set CONFIG_ACPI_DEBUG.
Please attach the content of /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/* and the dmesg output.

Do you mean that only
One happy-ending story: after upgrading from Ubuntu Dapper (see comment
131) to Kubuntu Feisty, shutdown works again! Out of the box too, I
haven't touched anything after the install.
