This is close. I check time stamps to identify failures. The time stamp could
also indicate a backup in progress.

Thanks to everyone who responded, but from what I'm seeing, none of these
queries show me which VM's are currently backing up? Completed/fail, yes.

I came in this morning and was surprised to find that one of my datamovers was
still running a schedule.
There were 2 sessions in TSM, but of course they were using the datacenter name

Running into some issues
Hello Remco,
I had this very same problem when we implemented TSM for VE when 6.4 came
out. I found that, during the snapshot process, the datamover tried to
create a snapshot of itself, which caused the process to crash. By
design, the datamover will attempt to remove stale snapshot data
Hi All,
I’ve been struggling with a TSM4VE issue for the past few weeks and so far IBM
has been unable to help me. We’re running TSM4VE on a virtual machine and made
the mistake of having that VM make a VM backup of itself. Ever since, even now
the VM is no longer included in the VM backups

1. Is VE pagefile aware? I.E. is it smart enough to know not to bother
backing up changed blocks from within the pagefile.sys file?
2. It appears to me that a given datamover only uses a single Windows
process, even for multiple concurrent backups. That would seem to constrain it

Here's an excerpt from my datamover's opt file. We use a single opt file and
put all our excludes in it, but I would like to hear how other people do it,
too.

You are correct.
With TSM/VE, you can only exclude at the hdisk level, or the VM level.

New to VE, looked through the docs and still unsure if this is supported:
Can I use a Client Option Set to centralize all the specific excludes of VM's,
or am I limited to putting them in each Datamover's opt files?
If yes, can someone send me a working example?
Thanks,

Lee,
The VMWare documentation is a bit confusing, but it appears that while NFS
datastores may support CBT, they don't support it fully. Any backup
software that leverages the VMWare APIs for backup will have the same
issue as TSM for VE when backup is initiated on a VM that's stored on a
