Mind sharing what you by "empty client customer ID"? I send in an empty 
string or a null in clientCustomerId and I still get the same 
AuthenticationError.CLIENT_CUSTOMER_ID_IS_REQUIRED error.

This issue happened to us too. Lots of client have the same errors and it 
suddenly shows up from 6/8 and nothing has been changed from our side. 

In our code, we will have to pass in an empty client customer id in order 
to get back all the accounts under this customer. Not sure what has been 
changed from API side.

This has been happening sporadically, and just happened again for two of 
our client accounts.  When I see the error I go in and manually test the 
problem (with the same php code) and the error doesn't happen.

Hello Sai,

Yes I have read the documentation I know what it means.  As I stated the error 
started without any code changes.  It was doing this for multiple accounts that 
we manage.  It was not just this one account.  The problem has since gone away, 
so I don’t know what the deal was, but it seems like it was an issue with the 
API and not with anything I was doing.

We had an issue where API calls were returning 
CLIENT_CUSTOMER_ID_IS_REQUIRED error which is fixed now. Are you still 
seeing this error? If so, could you please share the SOAP logs (request and 
response) of your latest API call which failed? You can use reply privately 
to author while sharing the logs.

AuthenticationError.CLIENT_CUSTOMER_ID_IS_REQUIRED - even though I am passing client customer id in request

I am using node-adwords npm package for adwords api calls. It was working 
fine for the last days, but suddenly I am getting issue saying 
that AuthenticationError.CLIENT_CUSTOMER_ID_IS_REQUIRED even though I am 
passing client customer id in request. Is there any work-around here?

so, could you please share the SOAP request and response log for the 
"AuthenticationError.CLIENT_CUSTOMER_ID_IS_REQUIRED' error along with 
client customer id, so that I can troubleshoot the issue? You could use '*Reply 
Privately to author*' option while responding.

Hi Agusti,

The clientCustomerId is the customer ID of your target AdWords account 
which is usually, in the form of 123-456-7890. According to this guide 
,
 
the clientCustomerId is required for all requests except CustomerService 
and ReportDefinitionService (specifically if you are running the reports in 
parallel).

There's a possibility that your calls succeeded without clientCustomerId 
when you were using the said two services. However, with the other API 
services, it will always return that specific error if you'll not specify a 
clientCustomerId.

Our recommended approach is to set the clientCustomerId and other OAuth2 
credentials in the property file 
.
 
This way, you don't have to set these fields in your code just like this 
example

Most of the calls succeed... the client customer id relates to the final 
user right? Do I need my users to input it by hand?

Hello guys, 

I'm developing an integration with you guys, basically the functionality I 
want to achieve is that my clients use my tool to add users to their 
remarketing lists.

To do that I've implemented the oauth flow and registered for the google 
api.

I'm storing the clientId, clientSecret and Adwords developer token (test 
for now), in my server, and then storing refresh tokens for each user who 
go through the oauth flow.

When i need some data from Google Apis, I run the code at the end of the 
post and then get the services needed.

Most of the times I get correct responses, but some times I get 
AuthenticationError.CLIENT_CUSTOMER_ID_IS_REQUIRED, like this one:

occasional AuthenticationError.CLIENT_CUSTOMER_ID_IS_REQUIRED error since Dec 14th

Since Dec 14th my python script (based o Python client library) started 
returning the error log below. I am truly puzzled by the behaviour of the 
error, as it pops up just occasionally and not consistently.

Initially I had no client_customer_id specified in googleads.yaml file, but 
after adding it there, error still persists.

set clientCustomerId in your auth.ini

you can set this at the runtime

google-api-ads-ruby - AuthenticationError.CLIENT_CUSTOMER_ID_IS_REQUIRED for CustomerService v201502

Hello all

I'm using google-api-ads-ruby with Ruby on Rails for an app which is 
tracking some Google Adwords data. Recently I've updated 
google-api-ads-ruby and now I'm get in stuck 
with AuthenticationError.CLIENT_CUSTOMER_ID_IS_REQUIRED error on 
CustomerService call.

My task is to get basic Adwords account informantion, such as account name 
and - most important - CustomerId to run further queries.

I'm using omniauth-google-oauth2 gem to get OAuth2 token:

config.omniauth  :adwords_oauth2, 'MY_CLIENT_ID', 'MY_CLIENT_SECRET', scope: 
adwords, access_type: 'offline', prompt: 'consent', strategy_class: 
OmniAuth::Strategies::AdwordsOauth2

As it was documented in examples here -

having OAuth2 token I can authenticate Adwords user and get his basic info 
using CustomerService.

Here is the excerpt from OmniAuth strategy class:

config_filename = File.join(Rails.root, 'config', 'adwords_api.yml')
@api = AdwordsApi::Api.new(config_filename)

# access_token is OAuth2 token which seems to be valid
token = { access_token: access_token.token, refresh_token: access_token.

So after I've updated google-adwords-api-0.14 to google-adwords-api-0.15, 
I'm getting an AuthenticationError.CLIENT_CUSTOMER_ID_IS_REQUIRED exception 
on service.get() call, but according to documentation, CustomerService is 
the only service which does not require CustomerID to run query.

Could you please help me:

- Is this approach to get customer data on auth correct?
- If not what is the right way to get customer data on login?

section

I have a question do I have to change it every time I download adwords data 
of a client? And this is my client's customerId not mine agency ID.
I have some client and I download their reports and also check that either 
they have accepted request or not.

Please guide me through this.

Sorry for my wrong words.
I mistakenly thought you use .NET.
And yes, the clientCustomerId I mentioned is in the auth.ini 
https://github.com/googleads/googleads-php-lib/blob/master/src/Google/Api/Ads/AdWords/auth.ini#L13
 
file (line 13).

Regarding you another question, as I pointed out above, you can fill in 
your *MCC account ID* instead of each child account's customer ID.

Provided that your clients' accounts are already linked as your child 
accounts, you should be able to download reports related to those accounts.
You don't need to specify your child accounts' customer ID one by one.

Sorry for my brief response. I did understand your situation but my 
response seemed not. :-)
Actually, I intended to ask if you have tried filling in the 
clientCustomerId of* your MCC account *in App.config?

If you do so and all child accounts are really linked to your MCC account, 
they should get populated.
You don't need to specify your child accounts' customer ID one by one.

Note that this will return a *ManagedCustomerLink* for the MCC itself, 
plus both AdWords and MCC accounts under the MCC. 
You can differentiate between MCC and AdWords accounts using the 
canManageClients 
https://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/reference/v201502/ManagedCustomerService.ManagedCustomer#canManageClients
 field.

You may find this example

similar to what you would like to do.

Basically, if you don't specify any CID, the code will not work.

I am using a script very similar to upload_offline_conversions.pl with 
v201409
a difference is that i am setting the oauth handler in the script:

my $client = Google::Ads::AdWords::Client-new({version = 
v201409});
$client-set_developer_token($clientSettings-{developer_token});

$client-get_oauth_2_handler()-set_client_id($clientSettings-{client_id});

$client-get_oauth_2_handler()-set_client_secret($clientSettings-{client_secret});

$client-get_oauth_2_handler()-set_access_token($agent-{access_token});

$client-get_oauth_2_handler()-set_refresh_token($agent-{refresh_token});

it works fine in v201406 but in v201409 i am getting this error:

This error means you are not providing the clientCustomerId in the request, 
which is required as of v201409.

The Test MCC account allows only 9 test sub accounts to be created.

That was the problem.

Glad you were able to resolve this. Note that starting with v201409 you 
need to include the *clientCustomerId* SOAP header for all services except 
CustomerService (see the v201409 migration guide

I am using the clientEmail. As I stated the headers work just fine for
other operations including generating the report. It is downloading
the report that gives the error.

I'm getting AuthenticationError.CLIENT_CUSTOMER_ID_IS_REQUIRED trying
to download a report that is not an MCC account, there is no
CLIENT_CUSTOMER_ID.
Attempts to use the id of the the account in the client customer id
does not work either.

GetClientReport returns AuthenticationError.CLIENT_CUSTOMER_ID_IS_REQUIRED for some users

I am using the C# library with v201101 and I have an odd problem. When 
retrieving reports for certain users (so far only people with gmail.com 
addresses) I get an AuthenticationError.CLIENT_CUSTOMER_ID_IS_REQUIRED 
error. I can use these same user credential to generate the reports, but 
they cannot be retrieved for some reason. The code that creates the 
AdwordsUser is the same for both creation of the report and retrieval of the 
report. In I can do pretty much anything else (create modify campaigns, 
adgroups, etc...) with those credentials except retrieve reports. I am using 
the ClientLogin method for everything since you cannot use OAuth to retrieve 
reports yet.

list like in the examples but i get that error:

with v13 the client worked
the php code is like in the examples

Hi,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.  At the moment the AdWords
API PHP Client Library is only compatible with PHP version 5.2.7 or
higher.  We are working on enabling support for older versions of PHP,
and you can follow the progress here:
http://code.google.com/p/google-api-adwords-php/wiki/PhpCompatibility.
Please add a comment to that page with the version of PHP you are
using.

since that is debian etch max.
