It turns non-violent criminals into something worse than that. I'm sure
it's traumatizing for those incarcerated for something that didn't hurt

Why put people in prison for weed but sentence people way less time,
My nephew has a close friend who was sent up 8 years for possession of 2
or 3 ounces of weed. I think he got a couple years off for good behavior
or something, but the kid wasn't even 21.
i chafe with they because it obfuscates singular versus plural.
I you are talking about a person in a group of 3 or more and say they,
people won't know if you're talking about an individual or the whole group.

Seems like it would be much simpler to just refer to everyone the same way. If
you’re talking about someone who isn’t around you can just say “that idiot”
when referring to him/her/it/he/she and “those idiots” instead of they/them.
Much cleaner that way.
