A hole through the threads would leak pretty seriously when you carry it.
The gasket is on the top of the neck.
Maybe they have some kind of manual vent cap.

sell the kind that vents through the spout now, which typically seem to
take about three hours to empty of 5 gallon can...), but I don't see how it
could work without having some kind of a vent. Maybe they replaced the

vented cap - you turn a button on the cap to let air in to replace the gas
that is drawn into the generator fuel tank by vacuum.
At least it used to come with vented cap.
Has anyone bought on of these recently?
