One additional thought.. I've had at least one rig where a bad/incorrect
radiator cap would cause overheating as the radiator cap in many systems
doubles as the pressure regulator for the system

That exhaust gasses in the radiator test Forrest mentioned is a sure indicator.
Better than a compression test.

I wouldn't run without a t-stat. On a lot of cars you need the restriction
to give the radiator time to do its job. Sounds to me like if it was
smoking (from exhaust?) when heating, you might have a cracked head gasket.
It looks like you've replaced everything else.

One thing to check is if you're getting exhaust gases in the radiator.
There are kits to test this.

My brother said same thing about compression...I will try thermostat removal.

A couple of thoughts. We had an older Dodge van with the 318 V8. We
replaced the radiator and put in a 3-fin in place of the original 2-fin,
and that really cooled it off. Otherwise, replace the radiator instead
of just a flush.
Also, check the compression. You may be getting blow-by on one

The radiator fan is not electric?
If it runs off a belt then fan speed is tied to RPM; same problem only
different.

S10 would have an electric radiator fan. If it gets hot when you stop,
could be a weak fan motor.
I had a Cavalier, same engine as S10. It sometimes just ran hot, but
hot at 42N lattitude might be very different from 'hot' in El Pasoso
maybe nothing is "wrong".
