I recently bought a Gigabyte motherboard with a CT5880 sound chip.
I'm using Suse 7.3 out of the box. alsaconf finds the sound chip
but fails to load the driver:

Try to reconfigure with with-isapnp=no. I think this is a bug in alsa's
config in that it is compiling in isapnp support for non-isapnp cards.

I tried to write some programs for sound processing recently. Most of it
went very well, but some questions about the aplay code (version 0.5.10),
which I used as example, remain unanswered. Maybe some of you can help me.
The first is: In the capture_go method a buffer is filled using

this is a doxygen created documentation of alsa-lib. you could define
any of these plugins, configurations in your .asoundrc. you should also
take a look in asoundrc.txt which comes with your alsa-lib. there are some
