Is there an easy way to do this?
Yep.
Everything looks fine but I seen this in my log amdump.1

Hi,
we would like to buy a DDS-4 Autoloader
(HP T5717A 40x6 or Seagate DAT 240 or
Sony TSL-S11000).
Before we will buy we would like to know
wether the device will be usable with the
linux standard software for backup and media
changer control (tar, dump, dd, mt, amanda,
mtx, Autoloader
Joseph, I'm getting a connection refused message from lycan.larc.nasa.gov,
so I'm sending this to the list instead.

I'm using a Sony TSL-11000 DDS4 autoloader under Linux without

I'm running FreeBSD 4.1 with amanda-2.4.2p1 and I can't seem to get the

The dump isn't too big for the tape, but I do find a taper.core file in
/tmp/amanda/ right after it's done. Anyone else seen this?
No, but I'd really like to see a debugger traceback. Fire up gdb or
dbx on taper and the core file, then enter the command "where" and post
that, please.

In other backup systems I've used, I have always kept certain level 0's
out of the rotation so's that I could alway go back quite a bit if
necessary.
That's harder to do with Amanda because when a level 0 is done is not
deterministic (well, it is, but it's much more complicated than "it's

OK, then you should be in good shape.
I don't have the index files. Could you elaborate on the syntax. I am
using dump, not tar, and my archives are compressed. I am not sure what
you mean by $TAPE and i am a bit shaky on 'the-restore-program'.

Is it normal ? the broken pipe.
No, it's not normal and it's not right. Since you didn't say what
version of Amanda you're using, it's a little hard to diagnose further.
