[asterisk-users] Asterisk and TDM400P

2007-12-05 Thread Gustavo Gonzalez
Hi,

I have a problem with a TDM400P card configuration. Incoming calls are
answered by asterisk, asterisk place the call on the destination
ATA/analog-phone, the phone begins to ring and when our recepcionist pickup
the phone to play a welcome message, she nothing hear on the line during
five or six seconds repeating the message three or four times until someone
appear on the phone. I was playing with Wait application but nothing changes
this issue. On the other hand I disabled callerid from zapata.conf but this
problem continues. I'm using Asterisk 1.2.24 on a debian system

I hope have exposed the problem crearly. Thanks for any idea to solve this
issue.

Cheers

Alejandro González

Hi Noc,
I had similar problem. Check If you have netjetpci module and try to
delete it...this solved my problem.

Can you check if your /dev/zap directory is created correctly?

On my machine with a TDM400P with 2xFXS and 2xFXO.
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ ls /dev/zap/
1  2  3  4  channel  ctl  pseudo  time

If you don't see anything then you'll have to check if your security
setting is prevent access to /dev/zap.

Hi,

Check your /etc/zaptel.conf and ensure that it has the right kind of
signalling set for the same channel number as that in you zapata.conf.

do : cat /proc/zaptel/1
and it should show channels and the effective signalling settings for them.
If signalling does not appear here,it means that, it is not configured
properly,

and loading chan_zap would fail.

My first and fourth channels are configured as fxsks and the output i
get is :

why channel 5 in zapata? It must be channel 1 the same as in zaptel.conf.

if i understand, my error are channel ?

In zaptel.conf, its fxsks=1
and in zapata.conf it's channel = 0

no ?

Hi,
The cat output suggests that channel number 1 is configured(as fxsks) by
the

zaptel kernel module as instructed in the zaptel.conf file.

So, you should have :
channel=1 instead of channel=5
and
signalling=fxs_ks  instead of signalling=fxs_ls  (mark the 'k' and 'l')
in zapata.conf

This will tell the chan_zap module to use the channel that is actually
initialised by the
driver in the kernel i.e channel no 1.Currently chan_zap must be looking
for a configured

channel number 5 which is not present on the system.That is why it fails.

Hopefully, doing the above will fix it :)

Best regards,
Pranav

An FXO module needs FXS signalling:

 fxsls=3

And probably fxsks=3: I'm not sure whether or not KS is used in the
French telco .

Didn't you know this obvious fact?

And what is the channel number of this module?

 when i load the module, i have in logs:

The card reports that first three slots are unused, and only slot 4 is
used. You should have known that this is a zero-based counting, whereas
the counting of Zaptel channels is 1-based.

Luckily for you you have just one card, and didn't need any further
offsets calculations.

Those two tiny this are obvious to us who havve been messing long enough
with Zaptel. However they are far from being intuitive.

My suggestions: either:

* Use genzaptelconf from xpp/utils/genzaptelconf to save you from this
  guesswork.

Or:

* Apply http://bugs.digium.com/view.php?id=7613

(preferably with some optimizations from the wctdm driver itself, but
the latter is clearly not my department).

[Asterisk-Users] Asterisk 1.2.1 + TDM400P + fax machine unreliable ?

to 1 port is am ordanary Fax Machine. Everything 'seems' to work,
however receiving faxes is very unreliable.

Sometimes I receive a normal page, without problems. Sometimes
half of a page and the rest is scrambled, but most often, I receive

Based on what Matt has mentioned previously, fxotune only sets the impedence

Are these settings persistent across reboots? The
README for fxotune seems to mention that you need to do a fxotune
-s in order to reload the card with the analyzed settings (rather
than take the 20 minutes it seems to take on my 6 lines). However,
if fxotune.conf is all 0's, I sure hope that the settings are persistent

Try the new echo canceller in head. It's an update to KB1 called MG2.
You'll have to enable it
in zconfig.h kind like with KB1. You can post feedback to bug #5120 on

If you have bad echo problems, we just put a new echo canceler (or

updates to an old one) into CVS. It's based on KB1, and it's called

Re: [Asterisk-Users] asterisk using tdm400p has echo

2005-10-27 Thread Rich Adamson
   If you do an fxotune and all of the coefficients are 0, does this
  mean that fxotune is not
  making
   any changes?

  Based on what Matt has mentioned previously, fxotune only sets the impedence
  to proper values today. He has not implemented the code to set the
  coefficients
  as yet, therefore the expected values are zero's.

 Are these settings persistent across reboots? The README for fxotune seems
 to mention that you
 need to do a fxotune -s in order to reload the card with the analyzed
 settings (rather than
 take the 20 minutes it seems to take on my 6 lines). However, if
 fxotune.conf is all 0's, I
sure
 hope that the settings are persistent on the board! :)

The results of fxotune is written to /etc/fxotune.conf; I don't believe
they are read back in unless you build something into a bootup script.

Don't use 1.0.9. It's old. Try the version of fxotune from head.

Correct. From the README:

It will write a configuration file to /etc/fxotune.conf.
You will
need to have your system run fxotune with the -s flag
(`fxotune -s`) to set the
module with the previously discovered values from
fxotune.conf for it to take
affect, so essentially if each time you reboot the
machine you need to run
`fxotune -s`. You might consider putting it
in your startup scripts some time
after the module loads and before asterisk runs.

However, my fxotune.conf contains only 0's for all
8 of each of 6 lines. I'm wondering does that mean that fxotune had
no effect, or that whatever effect it does have is A) Persistent within
the card between reboots and B) Not reflected by a fxotune.conf filled
with 0's...

If you ran it from an older version of the utility (older than a month
I would say) I would re-run
it just in case. Also, even for all 0's, you want it to set it at
boot. I'm not sure that I trust that all

of the registers that this effects are initialized to 0 by default.

When wctdm is loaded, the registers in the chipsets on the TDM card get
initialized. That implies whatever was there is overwritten.

The default register values have been preprogrammed into the driver for
some time, and those defaults are those applicable to the US telephone
lines. So, if you're using a TDM card in the US, the fxotune functions
provided today don't really add any value to the operation of the card
since those values are already programmed (eg, impedence).

I'm assuming (but haven't bothered to look) that if the card is used in
a non-US location, the loadzone parameter in /etc/zaptel.conf changes the
impedence setting to what is appropriate for that country. If that is
case, then the current value of running fxotune is apparently zero.

About a year or so ago, I played around with changing the coefficients
manually and did not find where those changes had any significant impact
on audio quality (including echo). But, there has been many changes
and improvements within zaptel and the canceller where maybe playing
with the coefficients might now be noticed.

The echo issue seems to always come back to the software canceller and
how well it performs in various environments. Those that have attempted
to optimize the canceller have indicated its previous operating range is
rather limited when compared to dedicated cancellers. I only know enough
about it to know that I don't have the knowledge or background to offer
improvements, but I do understand the issues. Matt has been working on
canceller improvements including the MG2 that he posted today.

So, gut feeling (as of this moment anyway) is that fxotune is not the
answer to echo. The changes being made involving the canceller have had
very noticable improvements starting with the KB canceller. (Now off to
play with MG2. :)

Try reading README.fxotune and using fxotune to see if it improves it.
Also make sure that you're using the latest version of zaptel (with the
KB1 echo canceler). If that still gives you echo, try using the patch
for bug 5520 and change your echo canceler to that to see if it
improves your echo.

Yes, but only a couple hundred times or so (check the archives). What
version of asterisk are you running (cvs-head, stable, 1.2)?

Might start with something like this in your zapata.conf:

[channels]
language=en

; the following added to handle callers that hang up on VM.
busydetect=yes
busycount=6
cidsignalling=bell
cidstart=ring
callerid=asreceived

context=inbound-bus-dialin
signalling=fxs_ks
echocancel=yes
echotraining=800
echocancelwhenbridged=yes
rxgain=3
txgain=0
musiconhold=default
channel = 1

You'll need to play with rxgain txgain for your implementation as
the value used is specific to how far your asterisk system is from
the central office. You might start with high values (eg, 5) and
reduce the values until the echo is minimal. Remember, changes to
zapata.conf requires a complete restart of asterisk, not just a
reload. If you go too low, dtmf will fail and talking with anyone
via the pstn will be difficult at best.
