Re: Windows 10, hopefully a decision I won't regret
@42This is a perfect example of unfounded windows 10 bashing. Don't get me wrong, windows 10 has so many problems microsoft edge for example which I think are inexcusable, but jaws not reading the settings screen is the fault of jaws
Re: Windows 10, hopefully a decision I won't regret
Well, one thing that I hate with windows 10 is, JAWS doesn't seems to read in the start menu, as well as in settings. when I press windows plus I, JAWS just says "settings". And nothing happen after that. But NVDA works great wi
Re: Windows 10, hopefully a decision I won't regret
let me just step down a bit...I'm not saying you should switch to nvda, or jaws, or whatever. If supernova works for you, then by all means, keep using it. But you seem to be having trouble with outlook, and maybe more programs
Re: Windows 10, hopefully a decision I won't regret
Service packs, I believe, are all the updates from a particular time period rolled in to one, plus some tweaks and new features, whereas builds are almost like upgrading to an entirely new version of Windows.

Re: Windows 10, hopefully a decision I won't regret
@LordLundin, No, there aren't any service packs for Windows anymore. They were discontinued long ago, and now Windows 10 uses "builds". See this How to Geek article for more info.

Re: Windows 10, hopefully a decision I won't regret
Thanks about the info on UAC. I'll probably still set the slider to 0 as those alerts get rather annoying. When I said Apple got it right, I mean the decision to leave proper accessibility support up to the developer. If the developer
Re: Windows 10, hopefully a decision I won't regret
Well I'll agree it doesnt' have as wide a user base as Jaws, though I've run across several people who do use it, but certainly it's being updated, new version just came out recently and subversions tend to be every two weeks to a month
Re: Windows 10, hopefully a decision I won't regret
ahh ... I just assumed it wasn't updated because I've Heard of ... only one, a certain mister Dark, that uses it.I wouldn't be concerned about what to remove and what to set up ... most things can probably be customised to your liking

@Slender, Nope, I wasn't referring to the name of God in Islam, (which has a double L), but the expresssion A la, derived from the French meaning "in the style of", see This entry on wiktionary for the details. @Pitermach, good
Re: Windows 10, hopefully a decision I won't regret
Well, on the point of accessibility, I don't think Narator will be able to replace any loyal screen reader such as JAWS or NVDA. It's years behind them and those years cannot be turned into months and thus completed all the steps

Re: Windows 10, hopefully a decision I won't regret
well dark I don't see people bashing on supernova but from what I've seen so far it looks like a very old screenreader that's not getting any more updates due to how unpopular it is --- and for that reason we are of course going
Re: Windows 10, hopefully a decision I won't regret
Absolutely. No one is stopping you from going into Program Files, or installing applications under different folders (in fact, if you do then Windows won't block programs from writing to them.Program Files is considered to be a system

Re: Windows 10, hopefully a decision I won't regret
Okay well this is a can of worms. I will ask people to please not turn this topic into a "lets all bash people who don't use nvda" type of affair, since that's not what I wanted to ask here, I was interested in windows 10 itse
Re: Windows 10, hopefully a decision I won't regret
Plus, if narator gets to the point where we can do independent installs, well, i'll just bootcamp my mac, and wipe the osx partition lol. Seriusly, i think we will get to the point where the operating system isn't the issue, it will just
Re: Windows 10, hopefully a decision I won't regret
It's sad to see ...I know some people who still use Supernova and they end up thinking a lot of applications are very inaccessible, while it is actually Supernova lagging behind that is causing the problems.Thing is, not everyone
Re: Windows 10, hopefully a decision I won't regret
I believe so. My guess is Dolphin is just keeping it working for the few people that still use it who in term don't need or possibly don't know any better. I know 3 people that use Super Nova now. Dark is one, then there's Andre Louis who
Re: Windows 10, hopefully a decision I won't regret
Yes, I think it probably doesn't support chrome too. Which is actually very, very bad since chrome has about 60% market share. Does it really just support internet explorer and a 5-year old firefox version?

Re: Windows 10, hopefully a decision I won't regret
I have no idea ... Since Google Chrome only recently started working at a to me high enough productive level, and that only in the Canary builds, I would be very, very surprised if Supernova plays nice with it. As in ...'Huh? The world

Re: Windows 10, hopefully a decision I won't regret
@roelNope, editing system files will still be problematic with UAC turned off. This should barely ever be required and when it is, you would run some kind of editor in admin mode and do it from there. which, funnily enough, would trigger
Re: Windows 10, hopefully a decision I won't regret
At this point, UAC really isn't an issue. And for the occasional program where it is you can just go into the properties for the file and tell it to always run as administrator on the compatibility tab. There's 2 ways of turning off UAC

Re: Windows 10, hopefully a decision I won't regret
Dark, I strongly recommend that you re-enable Windows Defender. It is an antivirus program, but it will not get in your way at all. It stays out of the way monitoring things until it is needed. Because it is created by Microsoft

Re: Windows 10, hopefully a decision I won't regret
Regarding UAC, it is only a dialog box that pops up asking you if you would like to grant permition. It doesn't prevent you from accessing things like program files, but system files in C:\windows and such are not editable, this won't go

Just out of curiocity, why are you turning uac off, and windows defender too?UAC only requires that you press alt + y before giving a program complete access to your system, which might be a good thing. That way, you have some control
