@welshweyr, the short version was it was something that technically wasnt supposed to be able to be done but i did not know that at the time because literally everyone was doing itit was a weapon that allowed you to one shot a boss mob for a quest which was fixed later

hi,however there is more than cost for the restrictions being applyed on bandwidththe cost of transporting data over international cables is always falling and this should have a posetive impact on bandwidth capsin 2011 the estimated cost of a gigabyte over international cables was 2 3 centsand also when isps rent fiberoptic lines the packages they get are stable price and unlimited packagesso I dont see why isps cant offer reasonably priced packages that have reasonable quotas

Much as I like swamp, castaways is likely what Ive been most looking forward to seeing updated. I never actually got how people could be interested in these sort of stratogy games until I played castaways sinse my only experience was the browser games like ateraeon or 1000 Ad, which always work on a very static model of just minimaxing all statistics and then beating other players which always seemed dull to me, something however like castaways where you need to reacg to what happens progressively as well as plan for your stratogy is awsome, and I cant wait to see more in the future, indeed as I said, the more complexity the better!

@TwardI know Africa is extremely huge, but I wasnt really sure where the middle east officialy counted, its one of these very weerd areas that seems to be on the continental boarder. This is again why one of those old braille maps would be nice, but I dont fancy a black and white one.

Yes, the examiner was one of the guild leaders who was also a player.I made an Alter Aeon character last night which was both good and bad. It was good because I played until 4:00 AM and got to a total of level 21. It turns out that thats the game I was asking about a couple of posts back with the refugee camp. The only bad thing about it was that I was supposed to be writing application forms for jobs. I really, really like how youll eventually get skills from all classes and only have to focus on the one youd prefer to start with rather than being stuck with your choice. Ive just finished a quest where you have to fight kobolds and undead in a temple of evil priests. Ive been through the kobold camp and the cemetery. Can anyone suggest where I should concentrate for XP now? As I said, Im level 21 with 12 in my primary class, 7 in my secondary and 2 in my tersiary. Im a cleric/druid/necromancer so far.

I quite like the new Braille maps because they have more detail on them than the old plastic ones used to. They are all split up though so it is frustrating not to be able to get a sense of perspective like you did in the past.

Hi there. Can anyone help me on how to download the sound of the Users boss in Adventure At C: in a legal way?When I heard the sound for the first time it got me thinking. As it sounded like the engine of an old car running at idle while going along formating the hard drive It gave me the idea of using that sound to create a new custom vehicle for the audio game Top Speed. The only problem is that I cant find this sound anywhere on the internet and even if I did find it I dont know how to download it and share it legally because once I have finished creating this new vehicle I would like to share it with all my friends who play Top Speed. Sorry to hear about your lost game Mr. Jones. The hardest part for sighted players to grasp in Castaways, was the method for cycling between jobs and your citizens, so now there is some artwork to help with that a bit. It is just a small section floating in the top-right corner that shows the currently selected job type (like showing all Builders), the selected person (Bob), and the persons current job (which is usually the same as the filter youve selected, but not always). There is a small graphic which also indicates the age (child or adult) and race of the selected person. Its not really a big game changer or anything, but I do believe it will make the game much easier for sighted players to first pick up and learn.Pelantas, development for Castaways did indeed stop, but I have a bad habit of changing my mind about stuff.

I originally started working a bit on Castaways so I could change it over to using the new Kaldobsky gamer accounts for multiplayer, but in the process I got a bit carried away and added other things. Actually Ive been doing a bit more work on the RPG lately, and the story has been bothering me. There was just too large of a gap between the events where Castaways ends and the beginning of the RPG. I had been trying to figure out ways to fill players in on everything that happened in between the 2 games, like splitting it up among NPCs or starting the game with a long intro story, but neither option seemed right. By adding these 2 new missions to Castaways, I was able to stretch the story so that it will flow nicely into the next game in the series. Well one thing I like about alter is indeed the fact your not limited on classes, indeed when i started I went clerric warrior theif Necro, then decided I liked necromancer more than thief so actually switched the order around, this also means there always is more to advance and try out which I do like. I also like the fact that both grouping and pvp are optional, not necessary, sinse I tried cooperative grouping with other players and wasnt keen on being constantly dragged around and having to keep up with real time combat events when I personally prefer to just pace my movement and exploration and look around and try stuff as I go, (the review corpse command is a great thing for this sinse it means you always get an enemys description even after theyre dead).For where to go for experience, one nice thing about Alteraeon is it rewards you for exploring new areas with exploration you use the nearby command you will be able to see relative area 
 levels, though note this is based on your highest primary class level not your total level,  indeed in alter its usual to talk of characters based on their primary level rather than total level, for example my character is currently total level 77 or so, though for practical purposes, such as working out what areas to go to hes level 27. My one issue with alter is that after the islands of slo and Cordan were both fantastic with always giving you new places to go and things to do as you level, things on arkase really slow down, the quests and new areas are wonderful to explore but once theyre done things can get overly grindy and I confess I got a little sick of running through the same areas again just slaughtering things sinse I wasnt high enough level to go anywhere else, though things are evening out there as Arkase gets expanded with new areas and I suspect once I get to the mainland there will be more than enough places to go.I

Sounds awsome. I actually think Castaways in a lot of ways does as much new in audio game terms as Swamp, sinse its certainly the first single player stratogy based equally on civilization building as combat, and of course it has the events and civilian disasters to keep matters interesting. This is why I mention it in other threads. Id also be very interested in seeing things expanded into a full complex civilization style development and management game, indeed the further and more complex things go the better as far as Im concerned, though as rpgs are also obviously something Im highly interested in I cant complain too much if thats the next project :d. You could also considder adding Lunimals to the Kaldobski account system, sinse it already has an awards system, challenge mode and other features that would work well with online play, and having a community of luna dome owners bragging about their biomes, showing off their earn
 ed trophies and maybe even trading animals or resources would fit righ in with the games plot,  though if your too busy with other things fare enough.Sadly my playing of castaways will have to wait a little as were going through a run of really good games at the moment and Im deep into paladin of the sky, I also had to leave my swamp playing for the same reason.

`Funny Welshweyr, I never actually considdered that you were in Britain at all, which is very stupid of me given that you state in your username that your Welsh, though in fairness I dont know what Weyr means so I wasnt sure if you meant Welsh as in coming from Wales or something else. Of course as Im about two quarters Scotish (I have two sets of Scotish grand parents), as well as living up hear in Jordi land close to the scotish boarder Im probably your natural enemy :d. I actually was looking for maps as I said to go on my wall which is why I wanted one of those old colourful world maps rather than the newer, duller coloured ones that only come in books. My mum still has one she kept of the British Isles, but not a full scale world map unfortunately.

We most probably wont have a SAPI5 version unless someone volunteers to write a wrapper for GSpeak in C which makes it work on that engine.In other news, though, the DLL version of the actual synthesizer is ready for releasing, and for the most part, so is the sp2gspeak library which converts spanish text to GSpeak input. We MIGHT also have an NVDA addon for the synthesizer soon, although it will only have support for spanish. The reason why Im concentrating on Spanish right now is because I have to write the parser myself. English is seriously complicated, and I doubt I would even know where to begin. For the moment Im looking for an English to phoneme parser to see if I can make anything out of that, which is somewhere where you guys could help if you wanted to.Im not planning 
 to enhance the sound of the synthesizer, at least not this prototype. This will most probably end up sounding something like Syntalk 1.6, if any of you know what that is.@victorious, in comparison to those two, ridiculously horrible. Also keep in mind eloquence and eSpeak use formant synthesis, which I havent looked into. GSpeak uses a very primitive form of concatenative synthesis.Adding more voices will probably be done. Since this system is really basic, and thanks to a few changes Ive made to the new PureBasic build, its very easy to add a new voice. I might add a new build of my voice if I decide to re-record all the phonemes.If any of you guys have a decent mic and want to make a voice database for GSpeak, contact me on any of the methods I give in the readme or PM me here. You will need to record a few takes of about 35 phonemes in one file and Ill cut them out and pack them for use in the GSpeak library.

hey aprone, just played through the recorded score mission. Its really hard, because the map is so small that the goblins surround me and I have like 12 squares to work with by the time my barracks is built. I would have built it earlier except that you start with just enough resources to get a tavern and a sawmill and a quarry built up, and then you have to worry about food. So by the time you are ready to build a mine and a forge the goblins have already advanced like 3 squares and once they are done theyve advanced like 5 squares, then by the time youve created enough metal bars, theyve moved another 2 squares. And by that time, its basically too late, no matter what you do. I was able to train up 3 knights, but they just couldnt deal with all of the goblins on all of the squares, because there were so many. I think the best sollution is to make 16 by 16 like map 1 was. Those cramped quarters are probably the biggest issue for me.
 Oh also, if you hit shift-g in the recorded score mision it tells you there are zombies, when its really goblins.Really nice work though, I like the aesthetic changes a lot.

I just checked the article for A dark room on Wikipedia, and guess what? not a dickybird about access, indeed Wikipedia is pretty bad for mentioning accessible games in general (their article on audio games is so out of date its unbelievable, particularly with its implications that all audio games need to be text based). The annoying fact is last time I tried to modify a Wikipeidia article, their page on Kingdom of Loathing to mention access in the game, my change got edited out within a day because I didnt put a propper reference I just said as noted on www.audiogames.net, which is pretty funny given that I was refering to the very Kingdom of Loathing entry I myself originally wrote! I couldnt however post a link, or even complain to the geezer whod killed my edit without going through a stupid none audio capture! Whoever created those things deserves to be boiled in a vat of rancid wee
 zel eurine!When games like KoL and A Dark room are both enough in the public sphere to have wikipedia articles its a dam shame that access cant be mentioned sinse that would be a great way to let Jo public know that having disfunctional eyeballs doesnt stop someone from enjoying computer games.I will admit Im not the worlds best in wiki code anyway, and I dont really have time to battle with Wikipedia, not when I have so much else that needs doing, so I put this one out to the community, especially sinse it wouldnt surprise me if some people have wikipedia editer accounts anyway (perhaps created before those stupid captures were added).Getting audiogames mentioned in wikipedia properly would be a really good thing, and if people want to start making the edits, and if necessary complaining to the powers that Wiki about their bloody captures, that would definitely help, especially when it comes to games like A dark room.

hello you can install windows under boot camp which lets you boot natively in to windows itself so it is like you are running a windows PC.You are then able of course to virtualize windows so it runs alongside the mac OS but personally id find it irritating

Well I eventually did make it up there. I liked that boss fight at the end. Hec even the Murderous Maggie fight was fun since you could only damage her with the dice and only then with fairly high rolls. Now I just gotta find my way out again.

Thanks for that.Thats something I found with Valhalla as well: once youve explored the places its safe to explore, you just grind the same zones over and over. Valhalla also has a mechanic where you die of old age but can effectively reincarnate yourself. To do this though you need to collect the heads of specific mobs and sacrifice them to the gods. Each head gives you points and you need a huge number of points to be ready for your rebirth when you die, or when you get fed up of your character as it is and voluntarily rebirth yourself. The point is that of all the magnificent world, only around 5 zones have heads where its even worth thinking about collecting them for rebirth points. This means, if you dont have much time to play, you find all your time taken up running the same zones for XP and heads to sacrifice. Valhalla is a huge MUD with loads of really thematic areas to explore but the options for what you can do outside of combat are l
 imited so my enthusiasm for it only lasts a few months at a time.The point is that I guess Im saying that Im used to it so dont mind doing it in Alter. Its also fun to know about that review corpse command since lots of the quest areas (imp fields, cemetery, kobold camp and underground temple as examples) have almost all agro mobs. Ill definitely check out that nearby command as well to see how it works.

@Dark, Weyr is a reference from the author Anne McCaffrey. She has a series of books called the Dragon Riders of Pern. These dragon riders keep their dragons in sort of fortress dragon farm places called Weyrs. The Welsh bit of my user name is indeed because Im from Wales. I think that youre only half English means we can still be friends. LOLTalking about old maps, do you remember those globes from the RNIB which use the seam where the 2 halves are stuck together as the equator and which still list Russia as the U.S.S.R.?

I also forgot to turn left to shoot him, and since my laser ran out before he is killed (he was unaffected because i didnt turn left, just like you), i have to give up. Then the next day i realised that i didnt turn left and thats why i cant defeat him, so i tried again. And i beat him without losing even 1 life!

Hi Joshua, I believe this is because in the map file itself, starting units are already specified, and on CE5 you will start with footmen and archers, etc. So, the mod itself wont change anything about it, as the map was made long before the mod was released. So, the same would apply with starting buildings. If it indicates in the map file that your starting buildings are a workshop, stables etc, you will have those buildings no matter what race youre playing. Recently, as my friends and I play more and more with this mod, we needed to modify maps slightly to work better on the crazy mod. Hope that makes sense.

@Welshweyr I have read the dragon riders books (or at least some of them though I found they got a little repetitive after a while), however I always assumed the dragon riders head quarters was weir the same as the place in a river which was always how the audio readers pronounced it. at least the different spelling makes sense though sinse I did always wonder why youd name the place where dragons, ie, fire breathing creatures live after a common feature to regulate flow of water :d. I do remember those old braille globesthe one I saw had an absolutely huge strip for the equator that stuck out a good half inch or so and was coloured black, if itd been a little bigger I might have thought it was a globe of Saturn not Earth . At the time I saw one, at my specialist school in the early 90s, USSR wouldve been accurate, though I dont belie
 ve the Rnib make those anymore, at least when I asked they werent. @Camochek my comment about enemies is a bit of a joke as traditionally the Welsh are supposed to have a rivalry with the Scots,  or sometimes the English,  or indeed anyone in Britain not from Wales .

Kamochek age doesnt automatically mean you cant make commercial games. Philip Bennefall was about fourteen if I remember right when he started seling Tarzan Junior. As for Aaron I would have guessed either late teens or early twenties since he said he was starting college. As for my progress I finally got Lucy in the party and Im about to go bust some druggies.

Dark I have been through this very same frustration! Back when I first started making games on here, I spent hours on a very nice looking wikipedia page for audiogames. The next day, I didnt put a propper reference, and they had simply deleted the entire thing. I didnt have a backup and was too frustrated to ever go back to try again.

Hi.I want to play pipe2 on my machine, but when I am running the game the following error appears.error 432 file name or class name not found during automation operations.Ive tried to install visual basic 6 run-time libralies from lighttechs website and also I have installed winkit from jimkitchen, but it still wont works.Compatibility mode also doesnt helps me.I am using win 8.1 x64 bit.Does some one knows what to do in order to makie it working?

Oh thanks for the heads up guys, I had forgotten to update the server to the newest version.KeyIsFull, walls are definitely your friend during the challenge map. I had to restart that one quite a few times before I got the hang of how to get my base started so that I could hold back the goblins. I ended up still getting overrun, while my 9 knights battled valiantly, but that was due to a mistake I made in building placement. If I hadnt made that single stupid mistake, Im pretty sure Id have survived until the 1 tick mark. So there are ways to survive, once youve had enough time to plan out a strategy.Also thanks for spotting that Shift-G bug.

I think the platforms are in regular intervals, because he fled from me once, and all those platforms I manage to jump are 5 steps between each other. If I want to jump from platform to platform, i just press up arrow and 5 arrow presses in the direction you want. But then again Im not sure.

Yep Aprone the editers are real nazis if you dont have an account and cant explain the details, I even rewrote my bit on the kingdom of loathing page along with the link to the audiogames.net db entry then followed it with something like I cant create references because I cant sign up for an account due to the stupid inaccessible immage capture that I cannot see however once again it sunk without a trace. The editers unfortunately seem really anal these days, so much for anyone can edit .

One other thing: I looked at the braille display and the menu items were showing up there, but then i had to restart the computer because the game wouldnt close, then i went back into road to rage, and nothing was coming up. Sancturary spoilers below. @Brad, There isnt a way past the organ, or at least not when you first go to the Sancturary (though I dont know if one turns up later), if you have gone to the organ room first when you got to the third floor of the sancturary then you are in the wrong place. You need to first go to a room on the top left corner and meet the person who is there. Once you have met them one of your characters will say theres another way forward from here then head back to the organ room for an encounter with an interesting bos. Once youve done that bo then your done in the Sancturary and can move on with the game.

making this only Spanish will probably prevent a lot of the forum goers from using it. most audio games are only in English, save for the ones marked as Japanese games. I dont even know about syntalk.You could just use the same research that john (creator of e speak) did when making Spanish support. it will essentially be espeak in reverse: while g speak, as you said, is going to support Spanish first and English later, espeak has always supported English since its original risk OS release in the late 90s, and the Spanish support was added sometime after it went cross-platform.I would advise you to add English support before making the NVDA add-on, because otherwise the NVDA developers will not get any use out of it because they are not native Spanish speakers.

Good news! I got sapi working from the options menu in the game! The problem? It was in screen reader mode, so i could use my braile display, but no speech. But now, I have speech! The only thing is, its the shittyest voice there is on the market for microsoft sapi. Its anna. I have some better ones, but i dont know how to change them. Disregard my last poasts. Ive been away for a few weeks and I have been reading up on all of many forum posts that happened while I was gone. In that time the community (gross generalization warning ahead) has grumbled about $5 fees for updating Shades of Doom, emptied their wallets picking up Paladin of the Sky (sweet), and tried hard to start up a few flame wars (definitely some grumpy people lately). ROFL!I think its time for a contest! Lets put some money back out there, and maybe brighten the mood of a few people. Perhaps this will help a few new people grab the Paladin game, which Im hearing really great things about! Castaways 2.7b has been posted, and it contains a game mode called Recorded Challenge. This is how players will participate in the contest. The game always starts you with an identical set of resources, 
 but after that it is up to you to survive and thrive. You have the daunting task of surviving through 1 game ticks as you earn a score based on the things you save up. At any point you can press Shift + space to hear your current score, and also list how many game ticks you have used. 1 ticks seems like a lot at first, but eventually youll start wishing you had more so you could save up more stuff. Here are how points are calculated.Knights, Rangers, Pikemen, and Cavalry all start out worth 1000 points for the first unit, but each additional unit is worth 100 points less. Having more than 10 of any of these troop types will give no additional points.All units upgraded with Tomes (Serfs, Woodsmen, Physician, ect) start out worth 1000 points for the first unit. Each additional unit is worth 250 less. Having more than 4 of any of these skilled job types will give no additional points.All food stored in your St
 ore houses or Taverns will be counted.Meat, Bread, Vegetables, and Wine all start out worth 500 points for the first item, and each additional item is worth 5 points less. Having more than 100 of any of these food types will give no additional points.Tomes stored in your Store houses start out worth 1000 points for the first Tome, and each additional tome is worth 250 less. Having more than 4 tomes will give no additional points.Lumber and bricks stored in your Store houses are all worth 10 points each. There is no limit on the amount of points you can earn on lumber and bricks.When you first start up the game youll already have quite a few points. This is normal, because you begin the mission with a lot of food and stuff. As you start to burn through your reserves, that score will drop lower and lower as you work to build your town and get on your feet. Defend yourself against the goblins (walls are your friend) a

The program I feed these files into can tell if the original game data matches any of the other files people have submitted. So if you play 100 ticks of the challenge, save it, give it to a friend, he plays the remaining 9900 ticks, and submits it for the contest... I will not count that. Hi.As far as I know, you cannot run the game on Windows 8.This is because Micro crap, as the great and powerful overlord, deviced to change some stuff that breaks compatibility for older stuff like the BSC games.Also, its Justins fault because he just up and abandoned his games without ensuring they would work on newer systems.If you really want to run these, I think you will have to get Windows 7 or better yet, go grab a copy of the best Microsoft OS ever made aka Windows XP.As for compatibility mode, I think thats a bunch of garbage. If it was truly compatibility mode, I would have been able to run the self destruct key generator on Windows Vista and higher and play other games and use other programs that worked on XP.So, does anyone know why Windows 7/8 compatibility mode is worth garbage?

Drug spoilers:Depending on what color his shield glows, you need to use a different attack. If Im remembering correctly, Red means the knife will hit, Yellow means the dice will hit and White means the scrolls will hit.

I have another question on sounds but this time its for Technoshock. I recently downloaded a bell sound for the lift (elevator) off YouTube because I feel that a bell sound is much better than the default lift signal sound so I downloaded it in Mp3 format and changed the file extention in order for it to work in the game. What happnes now is that the sound will play as I approach the lift when playing a level but I cant get it to play from where the lift is located and it still plays when the door is open for me to get in and go up to the next level of the game so I tried converting it to ogg and it just didnt play all together. Ill upload the Mp3 file along with this post so if anybody can help me on this one they can download it and see what they can do. Thanks very much. Well Camochek the problem is arcades really are going the way of the dinosaur. I was down at the in Skegness on the Northeast coast of Britain the other day. This is a town with lots of arcades, particularly one called the peer sinse its built on a peer over the sea. In the past back in the 90s youd always find the latest games there and I used to look forard going every summer to see the new versions of street fighter 2 and 3, dark stalkers, mortal combat, not to mention games like Tekken, and Killer instinct as well as walk along beat em ups like The Simpsons, turtles, renigade or double dragon. They also had a nice habbit of keeping their old machines around, I once even found an old Marios adventure game. Now however its wall to wall fruit machines! no actual computer games at aall, indeed the only game I saw down there was the gun game house of the dead three and even that is getting on for about 9 or 10 years old. in the past, arcades were always great sinse arcade versions of games were always better than what youd find on a console like the Snes, as they could afford better hardware, now that is not the case anymore, plus of course things have moved away onto games consoles, smart phones and computers. Also, remember that another major function of arcades was multiplayer sinse back in the 90s, there was no real internet for gaming. That is now served by online play instead. I admit I miss arcades and arcade games quite a lot, but there is no denying times have changed, so audio arcade games probably wouldnt be needed. Lastly of course, is the problem that even back in the 90s arcade games needed mas producing and shiping all over the world and were fairly expensive, I doubt any audio game developer has that sort of money even if Arcade games were a viable option.Oh, and btw, how would you hear the sound in a crowded arcade, sinse I can
 39;t see you plugging your headphones into an arcade machine.Finally what the heck is a blind audio game? I personally really dislike using the term blind for inanimate objects, partly because it is inaccurate, partly because it creates some really bad exlcusivist thinking, for example if a sighted person saw an audio game advertised as games for the blind theyd never play it sinse theyd assume it was for the blind and not for them, and obviously the more sighted people play audio games the better. its the same as audio dramas, there are lots of sighted people who enjoy those when theyre just sold as audio dramas, but if theyre called adapted for the blind how many sighted people will bother to hear them?This is also why, even if we had some audio arcade games, Id not recommend an arcade for the blind as you put it, if such a thing did exists and if arcades were possi
 ble, Id just suggest mixing the audio games in with the video games.

Ive been playing the demo for a while now. I have to agree that more environmental sounds would be nice, so you can use them as landmarks in some of those big areas. E.G. in the casino, there could be areas where you hear noise from different types of games E.G. slot mach ines, etc. Even if you cant actually play the games, you can at least know where you are in relation to them. Also, without the noise of games being played, for example, it gives the impression of a totally deserted place, which is certainly not what the company wants, if they want to make money off their passengers!Regarding the spell scrolls, Ive found some of them to be hard, especially where I keep pressing the key just a bit too early, waiting for the beep! An actual practice mode would be very nice to have, so you could actually get useful feedback about how well or poorly! youre doing, without being hit and miss with the spells during an actual battle.

I like the sound of the Pictures boss, the Downloads boss, the Desktop boss and the Users boss when they die. The downloads and the Desktop bosses sound weird when they die, I dont know exactly how to describe them, the Pictures boss makes a sort of explosion sound when he dies and the users boss, as somebody mentioned soundls like an old car running out of control. Those are really cool sounds. Lol.

Im also trying to find the sound mod for Technoshock that keyisful used when he recorded a bit of a playthrough of the game. Im really interested to see what sounds it has. I know most of them are the same as the default ones but there are some different ones that grabbed my interest and urged me to find the mod, download it, check it out and compare it to another sound mod I recently downloaded.

Oh no, I prefer wine bottler. It doesnt make you have to run a VM or bootcamp to run it. Thats 1 reason I like the mac, you can run .exe directly. Can someone, maybe, host a link for me?

Hi,PB 5.2 and up has a Dialog library that allows you to open windows and add controls via an xml file. The xml library can be used to generate this xml file in memory, on the fly.Rob
