Re: The limitations of audio interfaces

I agree that touch offers both a much greater range of inputs while at the same time offering much less granularity than visuals. That said I would say from my experiences with the ultracane that the pulsing vibration motors werent very optimised for their usage. Vibration motors depending on the model can take time to reach speed so that limits the rate at which they can be pulsed, Id say the ones in the ultracane werent bad but werent necessarily the fastest Ive felt. Personally Id have been inclined to use intensity of vibration rather than pulse speed, in part because of the limitations inherent in this.Voice control certainly has its place and could be incredibly useful, especially if the Kinect for Windows thing ever actually gets off the ground, but speaking a command is always going to be slower than pressing a button and sometimes the extra time it takes makes all the difference. That said voice control does offer the potential o
f multitasking where we could be using keyboard and voice inputs simultaneously, assuming were the kind of person who can pat our head and rub our stomach at the same time.

Re: My life of gaming: A closing chapter

2014-11-28 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : Nocturnus via Audiogames-reflector

Re: My life of gaming: A closing chapter

@Jason SW,Your story sounds like an echo of my own in some regards. You are not an atheist; you are a skeptic. I usually tell people that the difference is that a skeptic is one who cannot believe in god, either because he feels a lack of faith or cannot justify turning his life over to someone whos existence only seems like a myth. an atheist is one who will not believe in God; his heart has been hardened against the concept either by personal pain or the pain of others, chaos and turmoil, possibly even the very knowledge he seeks in life and its many circumstances, perhaps even going so far as to make such a conscious decision because he or she does not wish to be perceived as weak or a simple minded blind follower. I need point out that some of what Ive written may sound harsh, which is not my intention. I respect such people either way, and while I may engage them in a civil discussion on their beliefs because I am intrigue
d on how they claim to hold consistently to them, I will never attempt by any means to put them in a situation that is either offensive or awkward. it goes against everything I believe for one thing, but also , because its harder to convince someone about something you believe whole heartedly to be true and the single most important thing in life if said person is angry or upset with you.it is my personal belief that from the moment a child begins to articulate, the question of why becomes a matter of great curiocity. Why and all of the subquestions, as I tend to refer to them, such as what, who, how, where and when are matters that implicitly and explicitly govern the decisions ones makes in life, from how one treats people to how one reacts to situations that arise, to where one goes and when. I believe that why is such an important question that unless something within you has died or you have died yourself you will continue to ask in some form or a
nother, perhaps the most common of which is, Why am I here? Even as a Christian I must still ask that question if only to attempt to figure out what Gods will is for me personally, given that I am my own person and I am not to live someone elses life. The difference now is that I ask the question of god rather than asking myself and being left to ponder it alone, which brings us to the question of who God is.I could walk you through the various doctrins that exist on God and his nature; he is omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, immutable, eternal, holy, perfect. While these help those of us who know God know him better and appreciate him that much more, I dont know that these help anyone who wants to get to know god and begin a relationship with him, thus Im going to turn to a bit of scripture which I have personally found to be true. James 1:5 says that if anyone lacks wisdom, he or she should ask God, who gives gen
erously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to them. Perhaps there are Christians who would say this only applies to Gods people, and yet the writing includes the word anyone. I bring this up because since I was in a position where I could honestly state that I did not know God and had practically no reason I could see to truly want to know him, particularly since at times he seemed like such a tyrant, I eventually came to where I am now, and I firmly believe I did so because I asked that he revealed himself to me. On April 30th of this year at roughly 9:00 that evening, a service was finishing at a church I was attending. the man who preached that night came up to me personally and tackled one of the hardest questions I had ever had in my life involving faith. He told me that it was not important to change before coming to Christ, but that Christ would change me and make me different. It was not a matter of how mu
ch I believed, but rather, that I believed enough to do whatever it took to seek god himself. it didnt matter how much or how little faith I had, but that I did something with that faith. If incredulity was the problem, there was nothing wrong with admitting that to god himself and asking him to change it, but I needed to make a decision.I am pleased to say that I made that decision; I was ready to give it all up. all of the success I could see, all of the ladders I knew I could climb, all of the popularity that seemed to be attainable, all of the fame and fortune and materialistic prosperity that everyone talked about had a flaw; it was finite and uncertain. it held no promise. At times I would ask myself the question of why bother to rebuild when someone or something would just tare it all down again. Making that commitment, however, made me realize that there was a reason to the madness we know called life, a greater purpose, a perf
ect plan. many of the questions I had suddenly had answers, and of those that didnt, the possibility that I might know some day or that I was not meant to know but that I could confide in one who knew it all

Jason,Thanks for your post. Im very glad you told us your story.I agree with what Nocturnis said, and would only add to it that if you ever want to talk, please feel free to chat or call me on skype. I may be able to help, thats up to God. But Andrew is right, if you ask him, he will show himself to you. It may not be in the form youre expecting, it may be a sign you could simply toss off as coincidental, but he is there. The sign he kept giving me was that I would tell God to prove himself. I would say, if God would just show some sign of his existance, Id believe, but until then, Im out. Every time I asked for proof, God would show me a new christian band that I ended up really liking, within a month. It never even clicked until I was a believer, but over time it was whittling down my defenses against God and he was softening my heart to where I could actually listen to him. It will probably be different for you.I will do whatev
er it takes to help you out, if you need it. Ive been reading books and doing a lot of research showing evidence that science points toward God, not way, and that evolution is not as grounded as science and universities would have you believe. Ive also researched how historically accurate the bible is and come to find that many historians use it as an actual historical document. I have a book called 1 Minute Answers to Skeptics Top 40 Questions. Yet no matter how much evidence I can provide you with, even if it would help, God can never be absolutely proven 100%, and thus faith comes in. I think evidence can lead us to the conclusion that God is indeed there, he is active and his plan is still in motion, but can it lead us to the face of God? No. If it could, we wouldnt make a choice whether or not to follow him, the choice would be made for us and we would be mindless servants, not loving children.I just want to say one more thing to you Jason, and that is
this. God doesnt just love me, he loves you too. He loves everyone in the world, no matter what theyve done. He died for us all, that we might be saved. He loves you and he wants you to succeed too, even if right now you may not know hes there. The beauty of God is that after the death of Jesus Christ on the cross and his resurrection for our sins, the invitation to come to him and ask Jesus to live in your heart, thereby becoming a co-heir to Gods kingdom, is always open.

Is there any good mudding software? How about some daisy software? Also, how accessible is Skype on the mac? One more thing for now, how about some good games? Ah, that will be one dont side. @Cx2, agreed on vibration. While I agree on voice control always being slower, it likely would be faster from the ground up than either having to manually search and comprehend in space a 2D informational display via screen reading, or indeed touch screen controls, also however, voice control has the potential to mean that more than one command can be tied to a smaller amount of input in a very natural way requiring little by way of learning from the user. For instance, for setting a specific parameter, say audio playback speed, rather than having to remember a keyboard command or locate a touch screen icon for a menu, or go into nested menus and search, then find the right property page and in among several options find the right slider/listbox, change it and then confirm, itd be far easier (and probably faster), to say set audio playback speed to 6I also agree on keyboard input plus speech as a good bombination, though as you said it
39;d take a person who already was familiar with multitasking to utilize, or be used in specific circumstances.

Well, ok, there is that voice called Allexa, from that Amazon Echo thing, and Google TTS which I say that voice is pretty humanistic...Could games such as Shades Of Doom, Monkey Business, or even the Tomb Hunter series, feel more realistic on a mobile platform? Or in an HTML5 environment? Or one day, have Audio Games, with the ability to have Team Talk-like surround sound for Multi-player maps? For example, @Dark sneaks up on you in your left ear, and @Thomas sneaks up in your right ear, both walking past you in real time? Similar to how Drive/Sneller works?

It did make a sound, which was fine, I would have figured it out... but then it took me right back to the first enemy encounter, no checkp
oints near hydrolic control. Unless this is how its meant to be for a challenge, but if not, itd be nice if theres a checkpoint nearer the main computer.

Re: The limitations of audio interfaces

Well as far as I know, html 5 is just a platform. Xtant was a demo and a good one of a concept, but the concept could probably be equally done on pretty much any system with good handling of the audio environment sinse it was essentially just the idea of having a complete 360 sound environment without any actual walls that raps.Regarding mobile devices, the main advantage I see for mobiles in audio interface terms currently is the gyro which allows spacial control of the device and the touch screen. If you had a Wii mote style controller for your pc and some headphones, you could probably create a game similar to audio defense for your computer. Its not specifically that it is mobile that I find particularly interesting in audio terms, but the control options that are included as standard on mobile devices like Ios and Android. Regarding a mapwith speaking info utilizing audio spacing, my problem is thus far when ive seen that sort of technique don
e in games it hasnt worked very well, sinse it is generally easier to spacially position a sound than a voice, and at fainter volumes or more crowded audio environments voices just tend to merge. plus of course it can feel a trifle contrived, perhaps even patronizing. To get an idea of this, look how Phil in the betas of Sarah wen through a phase where objects would say their names constantly like broom, broom, broom or Bit of a sweet, bit of a sweet, bit of a sweet and see how popular that was, as compared to the more standard audio object identification by associated sound and then formal identification by a voice in the inventory when you pick it up.After all, while were used to picking up several environmental sources at once and zeroing in on the ones we want, we dont usually listen to and comprehend three or four conversations simultaniously, heck there used to be a game called din whos very point was this leve
l of audio confusion, and that worked with up to 6 human voices all saying comparatively sensible things in a conversational style, not random identifying phrases as in a game.

Re: My life of gaming: A closing chapter

I kind of take issue with the approach you bring regarding atheists. I consider myself an atheist, though just barely (as in, Id listen if proof were offered, so my mind is not shut). I dont like the implication that atheists as a rule are close-minded; theyre tough-minded, theres a difference.Imagine I threw a ball into the air, then told you about the wonderful seven-legged gravity demon that leapt up and brought it back down to earth. I cant prove it exists because you cant perceive it. It doesnt occupy space or lend itself to proof in any sense. You either take me on faith, or you refuse to believe me. Taking me on faith is not rational; we have understanding of gravity and other laws of physics that would explain very neatly about the balls fall, but all we have on the gravity demon is my word on it. In that light, organized religion is basically tens of millions of people who want to tell you all about the seven-legged g
ravity demon. Tens of millions of people used to believe the earth was flat, and that the ocean simply cascaded off the edge into infinity. They were wrong. Tens of millions of people used to believe the sun revolved around the earth. They were wrong too. The number of voices making an argument does not automatically lend weight to that arguments credibility unless many corroborating bits of evidence - not hearsay, you understand, but factual proof - support the claims being made. And heres whats even worse. Not only are religions - and even sects of religions - divided as to what that gravity demon looks like, but they cant agree on what else he can do either. They quarrel about whose gravity demon is bigger, better, stronger and more deserving of worship and adoration. The doctrines are written in such a way as to intimidate those who do not take this gravity demon on faith, and to righteously empower those who throw away the shackles of rationalism to
embrace their deity of choice. Supposition feeds supposition until a web of guesswork, hope and outright showmanship surrounds the altar of the gravity demon. Many are attracted not by the rightness, but simply by the magnetism exerted by a large body of their peers. Thus, we have organized religion. And we still dooont have any empirical proof of either the wonderful seven-legged gravity demon they worship or the promises, mysticism and intrigue that surrounds it. What we do have, though, is gravity. A ball falling to earth. Scientific theory which can explain to you how that ball fell. Rational facts.I will be the first to grant that there are many things that we dont understand or cant explain. Im not counting the afterlife and such, I mean things like the reversal of cancer symptoms or the veering of a huge storm when all meteorology reports said it would stay its course. But unlike a religious person, I do not blame or credit God, or anything els
e for this. I am curious, but I am comfortable with admitting that we just dont know what happened. Most atheists are. Rather than use God - or your seven-leggged gravity demon, if you like - as a go-to for every unexplained occurrence, both the agnostic and the atheist accept that the knowledge is incomplete. The only marked difference is that the agnostic says It might be God, it might not, and the atheist says I will not believe it is God without proof, and will expect another rational explanation first. They do this because they have no rational way to accept God; I suppose this is sort of the point of faith...that it cannot exist if full disclosure also exists.Me, I prefer to stick to what is rational. If I cram for seven hours and then ace a final exam, God didnt do it. I did it. If I hope really hard for the Blue Jays to win the World Series next year, and they actually do it, God didnt make them do it, and to suggest that he d
id sort of cheapens the monumental effort of the players in my opinion. This is all just to illustrate the following. When a faithful person does not know or is not sure, they look to their god of choice. When an agnostic does not know, he truly does not know, and while he may be okay with this, he will likely seek more than just the rational in his quest for knowledge. When an atheist does not know, he admits it, decides whether his not knowing is harmful and, if not, probably dismisses it. He puts aside all faith as broken for lack of proof, the same way many of you would do if I started going on about my oft-aforementioned gravity demon. He is no more stubborn than any believer is; the only difference is that he is convinced the answer is not God and a believer is convinced the answer is God.Im sorry if this rambled awhile, but I wanted to get that off my chest. I really dont like it when atheists are tarred with that brush, as I identify
as an atheist, albeit a fairly open0-minded one. I grant you that some atheists are completely stubborn, but others are just tough-minded, and should be accorded no

Re: Tactical Battle 2.0

The inherits flag only works with units right tnow.First you implement a base unit that has certain attributes you want other similar units to have. Then in the other unit files you have a line that says:inherits base unit nameAnd they automatically get all the flags you set on the base unit. You should also be able to override inherited flags by re-specifying them in the inheriting unit.Regarding moving more things from text into an in game editor:Ive thought about this a lot in the past.I actually think a text editor is much easier to use than an in game editor for many tasks. For instance, when Im adjusting a flag I can change it and then reload the map in the game.If I decide it needs to be slightly different I alt tab and change it in the text editor, then alt tab back and reload the map.If you could only change these values in game then it would be much more tedious to switch from the map all the wa
y back to the map editor and then drill down to the correct unit and then change the property.Using text also allows you to comment things so you remember why you did them, or so you can test the game with a certain flag turned off, and then turn it back on again by uncommenting. Many people would prefer their favorite text editor over an in game text editor that doesnt work quite the way they like.Want to make a copy of my getting started map pack and just make some changes?Easy, just copy and paste the folder with a different name.Want a super assassin that is mostly like your normal assassin?Just copy and paste the file to the new name. Then adjust the flags in the new file.Interested in output telling you what files are different between 2 copies of a map pack? There are compare and diff tools that already exist for working with folders full of text files.Want to use a source control system? Also supported w
ith text files.Add to all these benefits that its actually a lot more work for me to write a custom in game interface, and you can see why text files are a good option. That said, some things are much easier using custom in game controls, such as the map editor. And I agree that the ability to set a units items in the map editor would be nice, just like we have the ability to place items on tiles in the map editor.Generally, I start things as text files, and if it seems really painful to work with them that way then I consider how an in game control or command could make it much easier. Its amazing how many benefits there are to text files. We shouldnt be so quick to throw all that away.

Then when your on the bridge, their is a ladder, but it shouldnt lead to the navigation station. It leads to the captains quarters, hents that hacking interface. The navigation station isnt up that ladder, its someware down it at 407 0 20.

Re: My life of gaming: A closing chapter

@Jayde, Im afraid that is a very simplistic and somewhat overly categorized view both of science and religion, and the nature of faith, sinse firstly not all atheists believe as you point them to believe, secondly the process of scientific enquiry is not as rigorously simple or streight forward as you make it out to be, and thirdly, faith goes rather further than just an explanation of unexplained phenomena. Firstly, you are actually incorrect on how science works. if you study philosophy of science and the process of scientific enquiry you will find it riddled with suppositions, beliefs in entities only defigned by the underlying theory, and proofs of that theory only attained by experiments dictated by the previous theory. You ask me to believe in gravity rather than some sort of invisible entity, but what exactly is! gravity? can you show me a hand full of gravity or just its affects? Can you define gravity without referring to other i
nvisible things such as the masses of sub atomic particals or mathematics youve previously calculated based on its own effectt? Can you give me an experiment to proove the existance of this invisible thing called gravity, and then explain its results without referring to said other theoretical entities? This is not to say science is wrong, just to point out that science is just as much a product of human thinking as anything else in the world. it is a very consistant system of beliefs, and it progresses by identifying such inconsistancies and altering the background assumptions of those, but the belief in good, truthful rational science vs irrational bad religion is itself a form of faith. Indeed, under one deffinition atheists are not those who disbelieve in God but actively promote a view of the universe that does not contain god. There is a lot more I could say on the philosophy of science, but I very much suggest anyone who considers a supporter of
science should go and examine that subject in more detail to be a better scheptic. Regarding religion and faith, I always find it interesting that radical atheists tend to always assume religion and faith is all about explanations, rather than either A, direct experience, B, an attitude to the universe, or C, the nature of life generally. David Hume (a very famous scheptic), once said that the problem of religion is that religious experience was the only form of proof religion offered but that is one one which was merely personal and so impenitrable to those who havent had such proofs. for people who have had experiences of God or the devine there is a definite element of communication, of personal relationship involved. To say effectively your making this up to people who report such seems extremely arrogant, not to mention rather contradictory to the nature of personal experience and qualia (especially given aforesaid invisible entities), ind
eed this is very much part of the reason that we think of psychology as a psudo science. So, it seems unfare to just believe that religion must! be these psudo explanations for the unexplained.Lastly, i think you severely misscharacterize faith if you believe it is simply just atributing to God things from everyday life. A great explanation was made by Terry wait, a man who was held hostage in the middle east for five years. he said that while his captors could torture his body and destroy his mind, there was somethig outside of which that was untouchable by them. This generally is what Id categorize faith as, an attitude and a belief that there is a positive influence on the world and in circumstances which exists external to events and is accessible for those who listen, and interestingly enough is why I am myself currently an agnostic sinse I can no longer maintain such an attitude in my own life, although i freely admit others can and would not step on their r
ight to do so.Of course, there are more than a few bad examples of religion, or people who are motivated to do bad things, but this is no worse than any other human set of beliefs such as nationalism or racial identity. indeed I personally wonder how much of the bad things attributed to religion can be tied to actual religious experience or the positive aspects of faith and how much is just to do with that good old human tendency to dislike anyone outside your immediate group, indeed the not in our club syndrome seems to be if not the route of all evil at least the root of a lot of it.Either way, jayde Im afraid I find your above comments and categorizations of the attitudes you are referring to rather on the simplistic side and Id suggest you look into all these areas rather further if indeed you wish to be open minded as you suggest, particularly philosophy of science and the actual nature of human experience and rationalism.

I enjoy reading your posts very much as another Christian, and there are always new insights for me tothink about. As for Evidence for God... scientific fact can only explain so much. But what Atheists, and too many traditional Christians seem to think, is that science and God cannot exist together... which I dont necessarily understand. Sure there are issues where faith must rule out over science, and as Jade said, faith is partially a matter of belief without 100% proof... but I dont think that faith and science have to be mutually exclusive. And as much as I would like to get intto this and the whole subject of appologetics, this probably isnt the right thread for that. lol Otherwise it should probably be moved to the off-topic room. Moderation! I will not move this thread sinse Bladestorm has been a well known and highly contributing member of the forum for a long while, and this is fundamentally about his decision regarding games thus seems to belong to general game discussion. I would suggest perhaps if people want a serious debate over matters of science, religion and faith, rather than specifically Bladestorm and the basis of his decision perhaps starting another thread in the Offtopic room would be more appropriate, but Im not going to shove threads around the board too much or start dictating to people what they should or should not post or where discussion should go unless it becomes absolutely necessary to do so.

Re: programming languages

Woah,Ok, let me chip in here. You want to write applications for Windows that arent necessarily games, which as you correctly say rules out BGT.I will urge you to immediately forget Pascal. Although there are still people that use this language, it is starting to become a nitch language and is falling out of use.Now you offer up some interesting options, but are missing a few key players. Let me outline your choices first:BasicBasic itself is too old to actually work with in this day and age, although there are some variants out there that are made to work on modern operating systems. One of the more popular ones is PureBasic, which has been used , for example, by Ghorthalon. This is a viable option, but not the easiest to start with as a beginner in my opinion because the community for it , although large, isnt nearly as big as more
mainstream alternatives. Which brings me neatly to:c#:C#, or C-Sharp, is a language which talks to the huge windows library called the .NET framework. Together with Visual Basic .NET, this is one of the biggest languages out there right now for pure Windows application development. It is easy to learn in that it is easy to get a basic application with an actual graphical user interface going from chapter one of every tutorial you will find on the language. Visual Studio, the preferred program to write these applications, has recently become free for everyone, making the entry threshold considerably smaller.c++:C++ is a very powerful applications level programming language, however the learning curve is rather steep. I wont discourage you from learning it, but it will not be easy.Java:I hesitate to include Java in this list, because to actually write applications in Java that run in the Windows operating system you need to know quite a bit,
especially if you want them to be accessible. However, it is sort of c++s easier big brother and it is very widely used. It is the primary language to write Android applications, for example.Python:Python is a very, very readable language, and that is one of its strong points. This makes the learning curve for the language very gentle and its very easy to get started with it. I recommend this to all beginners of programming. In closing:- If you just want to write Windows applications with a user interface quickly and without fuss, .NET languages like c# and visual basic .NET are your best bet.If you want to know a bit more next to just quickly cobbling windows applications together, I recommend you start with Python.I hope that helps. Dont hestitate to ask if you have more questions.Balliol

Re: Getting up and going on a new mac

Hmmm. I am currently running 10.9.5. Yes that is the version it shipped with. To be more correct it shipped with 10.9.4. As for the voiceover not being as fast as jaws, I have in fact found it as fast as jaws at times. If you notest, I said at times. As for bugs, have you dug around in JAWS. I have found one or two in jaws at times. For example, try using the jaws cursor in firefox in windows seven. They might had fixed it in 16, but I doudt it. The whole interacting thing with voiceover does get some getting used to, but the item chooser helps out allot with page navagation when you know the page. There is the control plus option plus command plus h to go to the next heading for an example of something simlar to jaws. FS added touch screen support to jaws in 15, but the track pack navagation was in Voiceover before then and I still use word on windows with JAWS for now if you want to compare the two. LOL. If you really get down to it, you can find problems with any screenreader o
n the market. As for Voiceover stopping in times, are you backing that up by with those bugs you see there? Are you sure? I am just saying. You are not the only one that has found bugs. I have heard about some kind of wifi bug here and I know for a fact that IOS 8 still have enough bugs in it. So, by your logic, IOS 8 will go off the market per say pretty soon. This means that there will be no more IPads and IPhone sold after a point because of NDroid doing what IOS is trying to do so much better. It looks like to me, it all depends on what each person does on their computer that desides the OS and screen reader of choice.

Also have you any idea how bloated windows screen readers like Jaws are, much less how bloated Windows is? Im not saying macs are perfect by any stretch, I actually use Windows more than Mac OS both due to the age of my MBP and VipMud, but both are viable choices.Oh and you get both Pages and Numbers for free on Mac OS, they may lack some of the more exotic features of MS Office but for day to day use they do most of the things you could want.

Re: The limitations of audio interfaces

To begin with while Im also not overly concerned with the mobile part of mobile devices as far as games are concerned I think its good for our ecosystem that we have a mobile gaming device of some kind, even one which is off the shelf even if not inexpensive. Its not quite to the point of being the audio games version of a game boy but its still a good thing to exist for those who want it.Ill also say while motion sensing and similar are certainly useful and have their place they havent dominated the mainstream games market, and I dont expect they would do so with audio games either. The more frequent and the more pronounced the physical movements need to be the closer the game becomes to a physical activity and thats just not something you can sustain for the amounts of time people spend gaming in many cases. The reason the Wii succeeded to be honest was because it was a simple interface anyone could grasp combined with a hea
vy focus on less intense games that lend themselves to social play among even non gamers.Using an iPhone for example as a steering wheel for a game like Top Speed would certainly be fun and could work very well but much beyond that and youre physically limiting the amount of time a player can spend in your game, limiting progress like that always has a risk of leaving the player unsatisfied.

Re: Demons

Hi Enes,I see what youre saying, and yes, that could present some challenges.Brad is right, though. Something like Winstaller, or, more specifically, Core Recovery, might be able to do these things. There are a couple of drawbacks, of course. One is the high cost, Ive heard that the Winstaller program recently received a drastic price increase, so thats not cool. The second is, and maybe this wouldnt be an issue in other countries, but here, an employer would probably not be at all happy if you used your own software solutions. There are usually strict guidelines on what software you can and cannot use or install in a work environment.Thats one reason why blind people have such a hard time finding employment, because companies are usually skittish about providing adaptive software, not only because of the potential cost, but because its not in the preapproved list, so to speak.CX2 brings up a good point too, though. Even
if you couldnt run Combofix the way you wanted to, if youre able to use a sata/ide enclosure, and back up at least some of the uninfected data, you could very easily wipe the drive. That should get rid of most malware. Now I want to address something that was said a few posts back about two blind people marrying having disastrous results. That sounds incredibly closed-minded to me.Personally, I think it would be exhausting to date, let alone marry, a sighted person. I realize that Im generalizing here, but most sighted people believe that theyre going to have to be a blind persons caretaker upon meeting us. I think that, as a result, some blind/sighted relationships are codependent, or unhealthy in other ways. Not all, mind you, but some. Besides, when Im getting to know someone who is potential relationship material, I tend to focus on common interests, tastes in music, movies, and that kind of thing, and just generally exploring a pe
rsons character and personality. Almost all of my relationships have started out as friendships, in other words. Im not saying that its impossible, but it would be more difficult to build up this level of emotional intimacy with a sighted person initially, because you would be busy explaining how you do things as a blind person, and, if youre going to date them, chipping away at those misconceptions that they may hold.At least, I would. I dont think I could take it if I hooked up with someone, got emotionally invested, and, a year later, the person still believes that blind people are inherently less than sighted people.Im not saying that I would never, ever date a sighted person, or that theyre all evil. Nor am I saying that your point is completely without merit. It is nice to have a sighted person who knows you well to drive you places that a bus cant take you, for example, or in an emergency. But, to me, that feels patr
onizing towards the sighted person, as if we expect them to chaperone us. Which brings me back to the unbalanced power dynamics that can be present in blind/sighted relationships. Those are just my opinions, so take them however you like. Im quite sure that most people dont agree with me, and think Im crazy, but thats nothing new, lol.

Re: The limitations of audio interfaces

I agree Cx2 that portability in and of itself is helpful, and that from someone who was used to carrying around a laptop (in 2010 before I got my Iphone I was sitting on a boat in egypt playing judgement day on my laptop). I am not quite as certain on the matter of motion sensing however, sinse my point was more related to the fact that for audio games the spacial information from the movements required is an extra source of interface information, and I dont think for example having a 360 surround menu system in a game as mentioned above or having an audio landscape you could explore by your device movement up down and around would be any more difficult than moving your head and body around in physical space in reality is. On the precision and physical movement front, well for a sighted gamer its certainly true that games that use major physical motions havent court on as much, however analogue style control has existed for years. After all, ba
ck in the 16 bit era, you just pressed your joy pad or stick right and it was the games software that would dictate your characters accelleration, from a physical perspective you were just pushing a button for a varied length of time. Once however thumb sticks and mice became more common the alternative motion was possible, sinse you could have the speed of your character dictated by how far you pushed the thumb stick over. Thus, I dont think its true that graphical games dont utilize motions, its just that the analogue motions required are, with the exception of games like wii bowling and such far less pronounced by convention, and as I said I see an extra advantage for audio in spacial information terms with use of more movement in games that wouldnt occur in a graphical game sinse there you already have all the necessary information on the screen in front of you anyway. Btw, on another related issue, to be honest as someone who rem
embers playing games in the later 80s on old computers like the Amstrad cpc, not to mention the Atari (albeit that we were a little behind owning an atari in 1988) , games that play as a sport and require intensive learning doesnt strike me as a bad thing .

It was months ago, and, certainly, the admins havent responded to it, or changed the terms at all.I think the community leaders are there to help new users navigate the site, although that doesnt make much sense, because its an easy site to navigate, all things considered. If they were really there to moderate, I guarantee you that most of the things that have been said on the boards, or in qns, from what Ive heard, although I dont have any recent experience with those, would have been dealt with in some fashion. But, if you do read the terms of service, there is a clearly defined section that says, we are not your parents, and we are not here to censor anything that a user says. They will step in if someone uses a racial slur, but other than that, anything goes.

Re: My life of gaming: A closing chapter

@Jayde,given Darks suggestion to move this conversation over to another topic, I wont further this discussion much more on here except to offer my sincerest and most humble apologies. My intent was not to lump you in with a set of close minded fools, which Im sure exist in any group, not just atheism. tough minded is reasonable; I myself was such a person. My decision to follow Christ was not without much thought and pondering, and anyone who knows me would tell you that when it came to God there probably wasnt anything further from my mind. There once was a time when I posted up on twitter that the issue I took with Christians was that they wanted one to replace reason with faith, so I understand your stance on the matter entirely. As I stated in my above post, my hope was not to make an atheist individual seem like a harsh or horrifying person; for that matter, I believe stubbornness or tenacity or whatever else you wis
h to call it can be a good thing, thus my use of it in the above post. A man or woman who can firmly stick to a belief system is a person who, while I may never again be able to agree with on anything, deserves my respect at the very least because more than likely said person will always be able to carry on a discussion of this sort without it having to resort to childish nonsense and offensive wordplay. Ultimately I hope my choice of words this time around will suffice and make you see that I, at no point in time during this discussion intended to attack anyone, not agnostics, atheists, boodhists, or any other entities anywhere here or elsewhere in the world whatsoever. I wanted to explain my views and did it as best I knew how; it is all I can do. :d

Yeah, it is true that hard drive prices have come down quite a bit.You might try looking at Blind Bargains and seeing if there are any good deals on externals. Thats how Ive purchased mine. They linked to a deal that was on Amazon where a 4TB external was just over $100 at the time.Of course, just searching Amazon, Newegg, or Tiger Direct cant hurt, either. And it is black Friday, and dont forget cyber Monday. All in all, now would be a great time to snag one, and potentially with more storage than youll need for a long time.

Id say I probably would not have accepted the offer myself depending on the conditions of said offer. There are simply far too many variables for me to judge a company based on one move that we hardly know much about behind the scenes. itd be like a valued musician in a community selling out to a record label and becoming a no one within a couple of years of him doing so because he has to follow every strict regulation set forth by that contract, ultimately losing his original fanbase for one that eventually moves on to other things. Still, just educated guessing at best on my part.

Yo,As danny said, think up your ideas first. You can not start building and coding until you have thaught up the foundation and someo f the features of your MOO. Id say maybe lambda core is the best place to start. I will give you one piece of friendly advice, dont use cosmos. It might seem like a cool core, but trust me, it is very, very, very buggy and you will not get many players on your MOO.

I honestly disagree with the points stated above. If you can get a simple core, such as lambdamoo, then you can start looking at how it works. If your looking for actual programs to run them, there are a number of resources. Id advise being familiar with a command line terminal before using one though.Resourceshttp://lisdude.com/moo/For a tutorial of actually using a moo db:http://cmc.uib.no/moo/yib/

@5, but also everyone else:If you do not know enough programming to answer this question on your own, you dont need project-starting advice, you need to learn what a moo can do. Ideas are all well and good, but if you have absolutely no grasp of how easy or hard they are, especially as compared to your current skill set, then theyre also a little pointless and prone to lead to failure. Even the ones that look like easy successes. Perhaps even the ones that look like easy successes because, if you werent expecting them to be, youll get into the thought pattern of everything is easy followed by some project thats not, whereupon you delete everything, swearing to never touch programming again in despair.

Hi,Dark, sorry if this is getting a bit off topic. I was a fraid it would when I posted, just by the nature of the discussion, since matters of religion tend to do that. A couple of things had me continuing to post despite the fact that things went off the main topic a little, I was called by God to say something in the most recent posts. I will, however, do my best to follow the rules while Im here, as I always have, and try to keep topics on topic.Jayde, science can never prove that God exists 100%. He does not want us to prove that he exists, he already did that 2000 years ago. Not only is it not his job to continually prove himself in direct ways to anyone who asks, then God would be serving man instead of the other way around, but if he did that, we would not have a free will choice to make whether or not to follow him and would simply be mindless, unthinking servants. I mean, if you knew for a fact there was a God and that you would go to hell if yo
u did not follow him, youd be following him because it would be silly to go the other direction and out of respect, but not out of love or friendship. At that point, God would simply be a dictator, rather than the loving father who died for us and took the burden of our sins upon himself, applying our justly deserved punishment to himself rather than to us so that we could spend our lives with him instead of apart from him. . I know that for me, when I ultimately decided to become his willing servant, it was no evidence that finally swayed me but instead, simply his call when my life was irretrievably out of control. Even then, it took me a while to fully come to grips with it, and thats when I started searching for evidence.I will agree with you that the religion wars get out of hand, hence why I do not call myself religious. ending in that way. Im not here to take up the crusades or go on another witch hunt, thats unbiblical. Religion will always and can always be abused, just like anything else on this earth. I like the way one author I read put it though, dont let the experiences of other people make your decisions for you, eternity is a long time to be wrong.I would only argue just one thing. For those that choose to follow science, I highly recommend reading The Case for a Creator, by Lee Strobel. He has two others as well, The Case for Christ and The Case for Faith. He is a journalist and was a former atheist who set out to prove that evolution and scientific theory had ruled out all possibility for the existance of, and need for God. He came to some pretty interesting conclusions after interviewing some top level and highly respected scientists in various fields of study. Theres also some scientific studies of God on www.ICR.org, and
research can be found debating evolutionary theory from many different viewpoints, including agnostic, simply with google keywords. Your argument can be applied to science as well, just because a large chunk of the world considers naturalistic explanations to be the only way we could have come into being, does not make it the only explanation. Rationality is only what you make of it, and scientists have been trying to make reality more cut and dried than it is for centuries. Only recently, within the last couple of centuries, have we even dared to start thinking as a majority that we might have somehow come into being without the need for a creator. I agree with Assault Freak, science and faith are not mutually exclusive, one of my favorite things about God since I started following him. I think that, were you to examine the followers of Christ in any depth, youd be surprised how many super-intellects there are following him, constantly questioning and studying God in an attem
pt to understand him better and not just mindlessly accepting things as they are. Clive Staples Louis, Josh MacDowell, Lee Strobel, Steven Meyers and William Lane Craig all come to mind.I just wanted to let you all know that the Gameboy Advance and Playstation 3 are sold, but the Playstation Portable Slim I havent had any offers for yet. Ive got a dozen or so games for it, as well as a protective case for the system itself, all of which would of course be included.Thanks.

Clive Staples Louis, Josh MacDowell, Lee Strobel, Stephen Meyers and William Lane Craig all come to mind.I just wanted to let you all know that the Gameboy Advance and Playstation 3 are sold, but the Playstation Portable Slim I havent had any offers for yet. Ive got a dozen or so games for it, as well as a protective case for the system itself, all of which would of course be included.Thanks.

Re: An idea just came to me.

HiYep Im still childish, lol!Yeah I like that idea too, first because as Brad said it would make things faster and more fluid, and second because we already have control shift f or control f on IE for the main page to get to the forum, so it follows that we would have more shortcuts that were similar to that as well. Also lots of forums have, and have had those types of shortcuts for a while now, so this would be a step towards modernizing the audiogames.net forum system a bit more.
