There were a lot of ways to do this, but a player and I had been discussing it, and we have a method of grabbing real-time internet data, and pulling it into Flux for various types of information, like Flux News, #1 was the TMC ranking in real-time (voting changes this). We can pull anything really, from RSS feeds, to anything else one can imagine. given the bandwidth of a standard HTML page, there are some tricks under the hood to make this as thin and efficient as possible, but the end result is some real-time data from the Earthers! We could pull current metal pricing, or Earth news (via cnn RSS) or who knows what, its just an option.Yet another way that Flux is always evolving.

Something to add here, if the boy likes to play complex adventure with good plot and adicting challenges, he can try soul trapper on his iOS device. Also he can try the bavisoft games like chillingham, code factories time adventures, and ticon blues the inquisitor series. If he like fighters he can try skullgirls on windows, which is fully accessible than in the console version.

Re: Audio games as an alternative for someone who has recently lost sight

Im not sure about skull girls, sinse it still takes soun memorization and all the clipboard to sapi and emulation stuff would be dam hard for someone who hasnt even used a screen reader. Bavisofts titles would probably seem rather too simple and maybe slightly insulting, to someone used to mainstream gaming, indeed I found them slightly that way myself, however if he is into adventure puzzle style games the ticonblu stuff might be good. And of course if were talking adventure games on Ios, dont forget codename sygnas, which has incredibly easy gameplay (you can even play by speech), but high levels of action in its cutscenes and plot.I also wonder if Solara might be a good option if hes a fan of multiplayer rpg style battle games, particularly sinse everything in Solara is very well described, although the down side to that is the need to use voiceover.

Re: Psycho Strike - New Strategy/Action game

I havent yet tried this game, and will download the demo in the next hour or so. But my defacto opinion based off what Ive heard is making me a little skeptical. Audio games have definitely been shown to have huge potential if handled well, as demonstrated by many of the Japanese games. And yes, I know Im a huge advocate for these games, and so before anyone jumps down my throat Id just like to get that out of the way. Bokurano Daibouken 3 and Shadow Line are on par with many indie games Ive played, even moreso... almost the same as many fully developed side scrollers and early ps2 games. So to all those saying Paladin is the first audio rpg, Id have to make that correction... first one in English though, maybe, and its definitely a great game as well. Ill develop more of an opinion once Ive played it, but as of now I agree with musicman... if there is a resource that should have money spent on it its good gameplay, with
music and sounds coming after. Many of the fighting games I play are criticzed by other people not anyone specifically, because the sounds arent gripping enough, or the music isnt on par with tripple A titles. While audio is definitely something I consider when choosing how much of a game I enjoy, a solid gameplay system definitely pushes music and voice acting to the back. Mortal Kombat games, for example, have always had great music and sound, and in the last two games, great gameplay. Yet other games with lower budget sound design like Under Night In-birth give me far more enjoyment because of the gameplay system. So in short, for me and probably some other people here, while audio design is definitely a substancial part of game design, gameplay is what makes or breaks the game. And lastly, To me, bokurano Daibouken 3 is the archetype along with AAC that anyone wanting to make a side scrolling rpg action game should look at. Just some thoughts, appologies if Ive
  offended anyone by accident.

Re: Anybody here interested in Stenography?

I think eighty-WPM is fairly good. When was the last time you measured yourself? I type around eighty-five or ninety ona QWERTY keyboard. People can type faster on a Dvorak keyboard, at least by fifty WPM more than what the average QWERTY typost can type. A stenotype machine allows you to write even faster, almost up to 300 WPM.Heres how it works. If you want to write the word fish, you press six keys at once, which is called a chord. The keys would be tp, which makes the F sound, eu, which makes the ih sound, and rb, which produces the sh sound. Some chords can also produce pre-programmed words and phrases, which the stenographer can customise.Traditionally, stenograph paper has twenty-two columns, with an ordered list of letters from left to right. STKPWHRAO*EUFRPBLGTSDZ Noticed that there are letters that are repeated. The word steno comes from the many possible theories and combinations used to come up with letters that stand for a specific sound. I thin
k the problem is that there is no universal way to spell phonetically when just using letters, since letters represent consonants and vowels, and using phonetics to simplify this when one doesnt know the spelling of something, or if one is merely wanting to improve their pronunciation skills.

Re: Audio games as an alternative for someone who has recently lost sight

If were talking brain training, something reaction based like beatstar or quicktap see http://oriolgomez.com/en_index.php might work, and of course aprones audio puzzles dog who hates toast and obsessive compulsive are directly based on brain training exercises. See http://www.kaldobsky.com/audiogames/ for details on those. On that basis it is a shame that the Bsc titles arent around anymore sinse something like pipe 2 or hunter would be perfect for brain training with reversal, reaction, judgement and other exercises not to mention interest with its immersive sound. Sadly the company who made those sank like the titanic in 2013 and took all their games with them so there is no legal way to obtain copies anymore. @Dentin, my only concern with muds, even a mud like Alter with such a complete soundpack that its
virtually a full audio rpg in itself is that for someone who has never used screen reading technology before, understanding synth voices at speed and reacting in time to assimilate information and play accordingly could be difficult, particularly if stuck with the default Windows sapi voice and neither a better quality synth nor a screen reading program with a decent voice to fall back on. Ios does at least come with high quality synths for voiceover, whether the realspeak ones or apples own.

Im all for NVDA, the only thing is that it takes them a while to get support in for certain things. It is workable on systems which do not have decent specs to run the behemoth JAWS. I also like NVDAs object / document / screen review modes far over JAWS different cursors, although I cannot speak about the touch cursor as the latest version of Jaws Ive used is 14, however, some people say they get the metro apps working with the touch cursor which is cool and which is also a weakness of NVDA, piss poor accessibility with the metro apps, which doesnt bother me because I dont use them. I feel that FS has really been off their game, well, for a good long time and just is not keeping up with the times, although, there is the arguement of well, what do you want the screenreaders to do.Im on NVDA and would not use jaws if given to me or if i had like enough money to buy it without sweating the cost, Id donate to NVDA because I think
  they deserve it more.

Considering going into game development, looking for a mentor

Hello everyone. Been a while. So, I have a question. Im looking to make simple games like one Im thinking about right now, more on that in a moment. Id like to know if someone would be willing to mentor me in coding, preferrably in Pure Basic. Now on my game. Since Im getting back into star wars, I just had the idea of a game with three modes. 1. Jedi Assassin mode where you play as either a Sith Lord, such as Darth Vader, Darth Sidious, Darth Maul, or Starkiller. In this mode you have of course your lightsaber and you go through ten fights that work like this... You use the left and right arrows to block, this might be different if your fighter has a double edged lightsaber. and so on and so forth. 2. Stormtrooper mode, where you play as a stormtrooper fighting your way through rebels. and finally, Jedi mode, where you fight through Sith lords and that sort of thing. But Ive gotten off track. Would anyone be willing to mentor me? Ill have to wa
it until I get my personal laptop back, its currently being fixed so Im stuck using my school laptop. But anyways, thatd be great if someone could help me. Good evening.

Re: Psycho Strike - New Strategy/Action game

Some of what I am reading here is just plain sad.If I were a developer, and I read all these comments about wanting a refund and false advertising, I would immediately throw in the towel, just to be spiteful. These guys obviously worked hard on this game, and, whether you like it or not, there are much better ways to express that than to start saying that you want your money back. Youre basically saying that these guys are scam artists, and if I were them, I wouldnt like that too much.Having said that, I do think that it would be nice if expansion packs could be released for the game. I agree that the gameplay can get repetitive after awhile in its current form. But considering that this is my favorite genre of game to begin with, it doesnt bother me. If that isnt someone elses cup of tea, thats fine. But all this negativity really has to stop if theres any hope of continued work on the game.

2015-04-28 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : Sevrior via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Tentative Entombed 2 Design Decisions

A couple things I was wondering about having seen where the game is progressing:Firstly, how do you intend to handle class structuring? For instance, I personally am not a big fan of the multiclassing system in games. If I choose a class, its usually because I want to play that class, not that class and another mashed together for some reason. I also found it hard to fit the dual class system into the theme myself for Entombed 1, though thats just personal preference. I would prefer I think a tiered class system. E.G, a mage can choose 3 paths at level 20: battlemage, sorcerer or enchanter. Each of those then can separate into 2 paths at level 50, and the final tier is at level 75 or some such. It would give a lot of room for different playstyles within the specific class jurresdictions. I also like the idea of skills acquirable in other ways than just intrinsic leveling. A fighter fights a skilled gladiator and walks away w
ith a few of his tricks. A mage finds an old tome in a library and learns a new spell. A shaman slays a foe and converses with its spirit, gaining new and deadly knowledge, that sort of thing. Secondly, I was curious to know how you intend to handle the weapon system. You mentioned different weapons will have different techniques, but will that be class/race specific? E.G, a warrior might be able to riposte with a sword, while a mage would be far more limited with his range of sword techniques. Similarly, an assassin might be able to throw the knife hes wielding with some effectiveness, but I doubt a brawler could. Likewise, while an ogre could perform a devastating head crush with a morning star, a pixie might not be so successful. Thoughts?

Re: Tentative Entombed 2 Design Decisions

About Mp3 that is both scummy and unnecessary, particularly because I imagine there are some very good mp3 to og converters out there anyway . As regards pets, while Im fairly sure that if creatures are modable the default pet could be changed in the mod, at the same time Id prefer myself some sort of pet shop or way to obtain a different pet, perhaps a more powerful one as time goes on. One of the really major issues in Entombed 1 was that while at the start the wolf was pretty hard core and often carried your character through ropy situations (especially if you were playing a less physical job or weaker race), the more the game went on, the more useless the wolf was until by the time you got to the lower floors the wolf was actively a hindrance, with enemies able to despatch it in one hit and unable to do any damage with its single attac
 k. Part of this was undoubtedly the rather crazy balance of the hardness property on many of the tougher enemy races (the same that made ranged weapons utterly useless), however there was also the wolfs comparative lack of damage and general weakness to consider as well, particularly sinse it seemed that in Entombed 1 your wolfs level only increased its over all hp, not the toughness of its skin or its ability to dish out damage.Obviously as you go through the game, enemies will get tougher, therefore, why not have the ability to upgrade your pet to something tougher to match, particularly sinse (as I hope), the economics of entombed 2 will be a little more logical meaning you wil have to more carefully use the money you have to buy items in the shops (new pets included). So, having a shop where you could trade in your pet for a more powerful creature would be awsome! As for job based pets, on the one hand I do love the idea o
f being a wizard and their familiar, a ranger and their wild companion or even a paladin and their noble steed entering the dungeon. However, if pets were not tradable later on you probably would still run into the same problem with whatever default creature you started with, sinse fundamentally player controllable humanoid characters who can wear armor, use spells and upgrade their abilities will generally always have a better survival value than an auto controled animal with limi=ted attacks. So, I certainly would not be against! job based pets at all, indeed it would give the starting job even more diversity, however I do think having a pet shop or some other way to trade in pets later on to prevent the same problem of levelling and pet survival as happened in Entombed 1 would be higher priority for me. of course, theres no rule that says you cant have both .

Re: problems with some functions, any suggestions?

yes you should use floats. it will allow for much more preciseness.for example: in pythonex1. using integers8 /3 = 2obviously 2 is correct but its not the whole answer.x2 using floats8.0 / 3.0 = 2.66...5that is way more accurate and a big difference. im not sure if bgt handles this diffrently but i can only assume its about the same. just think if something came out like 5.915826384694628. the answer youd get using integers would still be 5 but youd be off by almost 1. which is a whole crap of a lot when talk in terms of shooting games.

Re: Audio games as an alternative for someone who has recently lost sight

@Jude hello and welcome to the forum. What Tward and the others here have said is true, actual Xbox games are not accessible via audio only. However, depending upon this boys gaming preferences and also mental abilities, there is likely to be something kicking around in the audio market that might well involve familiar concepts, for example if this boy is an fps fan, games like shades of doom from Gma games, if hes a more horror/suspense fan, perhaps something like the games from somethinelse on the Iphone such as pappasangre and the night jar, while if hes more into rpgs, perhaps Entombed from driftwood audio. If your looking for something more traditional or more simpler arcade style, perhaps some of Jim Kitchins or Ian humphries spoonbill games.. Unfortunately, our site database is not in a working condition at the moment which is a shame sinse it is possible to sort audiogames by genre such as traditional games like Chess, action or first p
erson shooter games. You can however find a very comprehensive audiogames list over at www.pcsgames.net and also http://www.applevis.com/ has listing of audiogames on Ios.While there arent many audiogames over all, now we are getting to the point where most genres are represented, so you can find a choice. Just as a start you could consider terraformers from http://terraformers.nu/ it is first person thus uses positional audio in detail, and involves an evolving story and plot, but plays at an over all slower pace with an emphasis on puzzles and audio challenges. it has very good quality audio and atmosphere, but does not require amazingly fast reflexes. While a commercial game at one time its sinse been made freeware, so is available to everyone. As I said, otherwise, itll depend upon the boys abilities and inte
rests, but hopefully his gives you an idea. While the number of available audiogames as compared to graphical ones is still ludicrously small, at least now were at the point where most genres are represented.

If you wonder why I ask all these questions, well, in your 2dpr, you used 2dp sounds, and I honestly wonder whare you got those from. Theres a reason to encrypt sounds and if you want that pack creater to extract sounds, then thats probably not needed. You found a pack. Lets asume bgt is being talked about here. Ok, first, its odviest that you didnt make it. And people dont use bgts pack function to make zip files with. Usually, its sounds, or other private gamedata that really isnt ment to be opened by anything but the game. Maybe your talking about something completely different, but... ive scene, uh... some questionable things lately when it comes to sounds with you. I could make you a bgt pack extracter, but youd have to enter the decription key.

Re: Psycho Strike - New Strategy/Action game

Hi,Unfortunately this game is a typical example of an overshot production, which can be seen in the $25 price tag as well. Most of the music tracks are nice, voice acting is great, but at the core it sadly remains a very minimalistic, repetitive side scroller with some rpg elements thrown in.The game advertises fps features, but in reality the areas have nothing to do with the fps style, as it has been pointed out by others.I presume that Aaron has to pay royalties for the voices, music, Elias, etc, thus the $25 price is somewhat understandable, but I really wish he had put a lot more effort into gameplay itself, rather than having professional music and voice acting. As a comparison, imagine a game with very nice orchestral music, professional character voices, story mode, multiplayer support, while the game is all about pressing the space bar when you hear a beep.A lot of features could have been implemented which would add a lot of replayability. On
e of these is online coop support. In single player, random events, better rewards for playing longer, taking more people on missions, implementing multiple gangs (thus trading, alliances, etc), different missions (e.g. taking hideouts, being betrayed while selling weapons) are just a few examples. The stages are mostly the same, except item randomisation and a few added doors in two stages. Somewhat pointless, but fun enhancements could have been added, such as breakable items, various sound sources. The footstep sounds are the same on every stage. The game has a lot of potential, and I really dont see why variety is missing, especially after such releases as Adventure at C: or Paladins of the Sky.A lot of people will say that I am unrealistic right now, but as a gamer, I really cannot see entertainment value in this game at the moment.Rob

hi,the task manager and regedit tools are disabled because you have malware. The malware probably disabled it. If you are not running windows 8.1, download and run combofix.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/downloa … fix/dl/12/ Though make sure your antivirus is turned off. That should automaticly delete most of the malware and restore the registry and task manager. Then run a scan with malwarebytes and remove anything it finds.

Re: Psycho Strike - New Strategy/Action game

Hi all,First, to those of you who are providing nuanced feedback regarding pros and cons of the game, thank you. This is helpful, and will certainly be taken into account when creating future upgrades. Contrary to what some are assuming, the game is not abandoned by any means. There are plans for new content, unlockables etc. We spent a lot of resources on the game (both in terms of man hours and money), and certainly no false advertising was intended on either of our parts. However, regarding the timing of the release, there comes a point when we have to release in order for the project to survive. This gives us user feedback as well as funds that can be used to develop the game further if we feel that the suggestions are good, which for the most part we definitely do. Do I think the game can be improved? Absolutely, in lots of ways. Will it be? Yes, if there is enough financial support and constructive feedback to make it worth our time. Over-all we are happy with the tur
nout, so we see no reason to abandone the game any time soon. Thanks to all of those who support our efforts, and please do keep the feedback coming!Kind regards,Philip Bennefall

2015-04-28 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : Dingo via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Tentative Entombed 2 Design Decisions

The multiclass system is one of the cores of Entombeds replayability. Imagine you have 5 classes. Thats 5 different ways to play. Now, add a second class to that. Without changing any of the content you now have 20 different ways to play. With different races, that can jump to over a 100 different ways. Some class combinations arent as valuable as others, but thats not the point. The purpose is variety and fun. I think a lot of people had fun finding class combinations that didnt appear to be a useful mix, but ended up surprising them. There is also the issue of challenge. Not all the races in Entombed are equal. Some are just inferior to others as far as power in the game is concerned. But some players enjoy a challenge, and picking a challenging race with a weird class combination definitely ramps it up.I think learning combat skills outside of your class can muddy the roles. If every character ends up as a fighter/mage/thief/heal
er mix then there is a failure of game design. There is a class that can learn skills, the Wanderer, and that is a feature of that class specifically. So you can get a broad mix of abilities in there, just not every class.Ill try to spread the abilities out more so characters have a clearer advancement and not every ability unlocked right at the start.Weapon proficiency is a feature of the primary character class. Entombed 1 did have racial abilities too (elves could use swords regardless of their class, for example). If you can use a weapon depends on your proficiency and the weapons size compared to your size. In Entombed 1, you could disarm ogres wielding large weapons by shrinking the ogre. Entombed 2 will have a similar feature. If you pick a fairy warrior, you can technically use swords, but your small size will prevent you from actually holding them. Youd be stuck wielding daggers and other small weapons with two hands.

What the elias engine is doing in the game? not much but its there! hahDidnt knew about the pistol needs to be reloaded after every shot, and I dont mean changing clips, it sounds like a shotgun, not a pistol. Revolver? huh, it sounds like not a revolver at all.The AI is really, really stupid. Their are just getting everything what their can, kill the enemies ofcourse, but their are not that smart enough and their are using pistols to break through prisons cells or bank vaults. Why? their can use a melee weapons and itd be faster and without ammo lost.ANd yeah, the next game where as fast as you will use SPACE key youll use a knife for example. Why making timers, code combos or other interesting stuff? And well, its just too repetitive, there are differ
end areas? no! these are just the same areas with other music tracks or background ambiences. Its so funny when someone is calling it GTA for the blind LOLAnd lastly, only three people can be send to the mission? yeah... really, its huge gang! huh!Idea is just great but maybe on the paper. In practice theres lack of most of things the normal, elegant and comercial game should have!

Erg, expecting this to be a GTA clone, even though A. 3 people are working on it. B. They dont have massive financial resources and C. Is their first attempts at making a game shold probably tick some people off. Ganted, I though the message was ctually like not clone. The basic idea is there of the GTA games...or what people actually play it for. Story Nope, no one plays for the story much. Exploration: Not really. After the first time around, you have seen it all. Mass murdering of innocent civlians: Bingo. Whats actually a bit funny is that Saints Row mocks any attempts of GTA being mre serious of more than just a mass murder simulator by gimpin the story all together and just letting you have reign for complete chaos. Also wer ekind of beng hard on the independent developer here. Nearly ever single major co
mpany is guilty of false advertising on the popular titles, and not as many people complain, even if the provided product is way below expectations of the advertised product. One of he recent disappoinments with a main stream gae was actually The Last of Us, where the advertised advanced AI of e enemies was scrapped out for them to randomly dodge out of the way of your attacks instea dof retreating and regrouping. (Comedically enough, this makes Psycho Srike have better AI than a mainstream game here as the enemies do retreat when about to die and looking to regroup). Actually one thing that might be possible after a bit of time would be to include multiplayer maps of large facilities with multiple entry points would should try to guard. Though for ease of coordination, the gang leaders go alone with oher leaders or chosen members and work together for a massive heist. Grante,d if AI commands get put in, I guess we
can include them and hav eit limited to 4 players with 12 people on the stage.

Re: Psycho Strike - New Strategy/Action game

So there is no proceeding storyline after the 8 levels of the demo, except for things getting faster, more difficult, more noisy and more chaotic in general? No twists in the story, no hidden challenges, mini-stagesor mini games, no congratulations when you do actually manage to reach your objective, nothing like that? Whats the highest level that everyone with the full version has managed to reach so far, and how many of you have already managed to fulfill your objective?Has anything new happened by then at all?If the answer to all of these questions is no, Ill have a hard time trying to decide whether to buy this in the end or not. I love voice acting and audio quality in games in general and for one find them horribly lacking in audiogames, so thats one thing that can turn me totally mad about a game pretty quickly. To put together a counter analogy to the Beep game with multiplayer, story mode and top notch audio, would you really be playing the b
eloved, popular and classic mainstream GTA that passionately if all the sounds, shots, explosions, screams, car engines, running footsteps, cob actions, car radio transmissions, breaking glass and I dont know what else were all represented by dull 8-bit computer beeps? However, gameplay and mechanics that form together the replayability, complexity and challenge aspects of the game are just as important, if not more. Audiogames are in a very difficult position now, trying to quickly catch up with the mainstream standards set in both these areas over a much shorter span of time than what the mainstream developers had, and with about a hundredth or thousandth of their resources when measured from the scope of one standard mainstream commercial game company (not indie) versus one standard commercial audiogame company, who are all indie developers just by the very nature of things. So, if what I have in the demo is pretty much everything I can get from the game except f
or the discussably smart/dumb gang allies getting captured and the possibility to try to rescue them, for bombs and mines and for one more stage (the casino) which is still just the same as all the other ones at the core level and about which Im not sure why its even there in the first place, I really honestly just cant say whether this is enough to keep me motivated to buy the game at the present moment or not.And before anyone criticizes me for this attitude, let me stress that the price tag is absolutely not an issue for me, nor the games other shortcomings. I would probably just be able to get more fascinatedby it if it featured a streetlike stage where you could get run over by cars etc along with those that are already there, and possibly a system of commands to order your characters at least in some basic primitive way. Even one or two features like that would be enough for me. And Im really not expecting any single audiogame developer who
is visually impaired and thus in the same position as us visually impaired gamers himself to come up with the same variety of detail, complexity and diversity as GTA can, with its huge development teams and millions of bucks poured into the budget. I think that even getting just about 30 more sounds and about the same amount of short voice clips, one to three seconds, would do the trick for a basic GTA like atmosphere pretty well, I believe. And dont start arguing that Philip and Aaron are in fact two developers already. Compared to some of the largest mainstream gaming studios out there, this would be about a 30th or so of their total developer count. :-DThat is to say the games current foundation is already pretty cool and potentially very attractive. It would just need to be expanded upon a bit in order to really capture my full attention.Just like I said in my previous post, I think that if the unlockable content additions, expansions and new features wer
e sold separately as they were gradually developed over time, many of the current complainers could be turned from exercising their vocal chords to sending some valuable cash your way that could later be used for some even cooler games. :-DIf you can perceive a mixture of slight doubt and disappointment along with excitement and a still living hope for future improvements, then congratulations to your judgment as thats exactly the annoying mixture of feelings I am currently going through in regards to Psycho STrike... :-DThanks,lukas

Talking dosbox pre pre alpha 0.01

2015-04-28 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — New releases room : pitermach via Audiogames-reflector

Talking dosbox pre pre alpha 0.01

Yesterday I posted a topic about this which was just saying that this will most likely become a thing soon ish, but I think its going to get more views in new releases as it sort of is, as early as its actually coming out. This is a preconfigured version of dosbox Daum that comes with a screen reader and speech all set up to play old 16-bit dos games, even on new 64-bit Windows. For the most part, things work but theres still a lot of room for improvement which will hopefully happen as time permits and as I figure things out. Some basic instructions:Extract and run dosbox.exe. It should take about a few seconds for things to load. You will know when it does as you will hear the jaws startup message, followed by C colon backslash jaws greater. If youve never used a text mode interface, reading up on dos commands may at this point be a good idea, even by typing help and pressing enter which will give all commands, including ones
specific to dosbox for things like mounting additional directories or disk images or changing the Cycle speed. As far as screen reader keystrokes go, Some keys are the same as JAWS for windows. You can get to a help mode with insert+1, turn on the jaws cursor with numpad minus and off with numpad plus (you may need to pass these 2 through in NVDA or JAWS for windows as they may intercept them). When the jaws cursor is on, you can review all lines with the arrow keys. Pressing ctrl+slash will enter the jaws menu if you want to change the speech settings. In this menu, left and right move between options, down enters a submenu and pressing enter accepts a change. To add your own games or programs, you can either copy them into the cdrive folder, or mount local directories into dosbox using the mount command, IEmount D C:\users\me\downloads\dos\gameswhich would cause the C:\users\\me\downloads\dos\games folder to become the D: drive in dosbox.<
p>To exit, you can either type in exit at the prompt or press control f9. Other keys you can use include control F6, which starts and stops recording to wav in the captures folder, control f11 and f12 which adjust the cycles (how fast the emulator is, anything below 45000 cycles will make the speech quite laggy), and alt f12 which toggles turbo mode.If you ever want to use a different screen reader or try using this with a real or fake hardware synthesizer, you can open dosbox.conf, which is not only where you configure serial ports, but also where you have the autoexec section which includes any commands ran at dosbox start. Ive also included another screen reader, flipper, which may in some cases work better. The speech also seems to pause less with it but screen echo isnt as reliable. If you want to run that instead of JAWS, edit the auto exec section to look something like thismount C cdrivecycles 5C:\flip50\sbtalker /dBLASTERC:\fli
p50\f_blastC:\flip50\flipperOther things to be aware of, expanded memory (EMS) doesnt work very well with most programs while any screen reader is on so Ive temporairly turned it off. This means that you only have about 640K of RAM instead of 16MB. Also, because the speech by default is using a soundblaster software synthesizer, programs that play sounds this way will either not play them, or play them but interrupt speech or be angry with you because the soundcard is busy. Music playback through the PC speaker, the FM chip of the soundblaster, midi or other sound outputs should work but wasnt testedRight, having said all this, heres yourdownload linkHave fun.

raygrote: The reason you played games like audio only is because the audio gaming scene is really far from heaven and excellent.Imagine the situation where most video games could be fully playable for us, what will happen? many of you will start playing these and will needs every audio game like the mainstream one. What about Paladin, not bad story, not that bad gameplay without few exceptions. Sounds design there is really minimalistic so you cant hear most of the things around. Music and background ambiences only, no fighting sounds, no movement sounds etc.Haha, something like in skullgirls? its so funny. Skullgirls is actually much more rich in terms of content and these new characters and things are just a DLCs with extra stuff where the basic game is just avesome without any extra funding. Why I should pay for extra features like new enemy, new weapon, new location etc? its just confusing and totally bad idea.

Probably, because you need to see the position of the players on the field, you need to see which player you are in control of by the highlight under them, you have to know who has the ball, you have to call the plays, and there too many to memorize, and the play calling menus wrap, and each play can be flipped, and red a blue plays, red for run and blue for pass. No, I dont think it would be doable.

Moderation! Hi hhurstseth4055, Blindncool and trenton are correct. An interactive fiction game is still a game and thus topics discussing it belong in general game discussion, the offtopic room is for anything not! about games. So, this topic is being moved.

Re: AG Debate: Apple Watch Acccessibility, Equals More iOS Blind Users?

From what I understand, the main point of the apple watch isnt so much the watch itself, its the fact that it picks up wrist gestures that communicate to your Ios device and also that it collects data about you and your surroundings. If they were around £50 or less rather than £100 I might get one as a novelty bit of fun, but as a seriously useful item, much less something that would make someone a new Ios user, particularly in a world where cheap, affordable and effective talking watches have existed for years. My own (I forget name and model number), is a very useful thing, its kept right by satellite, has a steel strap, ability to change time zone to different countries plus a conventional alarm and even a currency converter, all usable. Yes, I could check the time on my phone, or for that matter on my Victor stream when Im using it,and I do, however there are still times when a watch is most useful, like when Im just standing on the train about to get off with my phone in my bag and wondering how late it is, or when Im at anual music school waiting for a class to start. The interest in the apple watch for me is what aps and games will make use of it for data, and its likely at the point people start doing so that Ill seriously consider buying one, (particularly sinse at that point its likely the thing will come down in price too).

Re: A Modern Day Comparison of JAWS and NVDA

I am a jaws user and dont think Id go for NVDA. The reason, is not only that one everybody used to mention, Im used to use jaws and Im not willing to change, but I find it working faster than NVDA and with some good features. Especially Jaws 16, has an improved speed in comparison to previous version. Indeed the speed of navigating was only one of the changes I could notice since my first time of use. I think that both screen readers should be more powerful and responsive. For example, when a program crashes on your system and it takes up a lot of memory, it might prevent them from working. This occurs in Jaws and NVDA, certainly NVDA, makes the worst offence when the synthesizer keeps speeking without ever thinking to stop until you force close it.

Re: Psycho Strike - New Strategy/Action game

Thank you Lucas. Youve just made me feel better. I was trying to express that point in a positive way and you summed both the positive and negative aspects in a way that I feel voices my opinion as well. And I feel youre more qualified to actually talk about this stuff since youve probably had far more gaming experience than Ive had. At first I thought, here we go, someone else is going to start beating this thing down and then Im going to be even more annoyed and leave this topic, but I do appreciate your view and agree with it.The way I see it, I would buy Psycho Strike right now if I could. Not because I like the game and expect millions of surprises to be unlocked as I am starting to see that is not quite the case, but because I support VGStorm and Blastbay and I do like this game... let me re-phrase that, Philip is especially my idle when it comes to game creation. And lets face it, when we buy a game, were also expressing some
appreciation for the guy(s) who made it. I would find it very hard to purchase this game if Philip had come to my house, broken down my door, and tried to shoot me and claimed I forced him to do it. Of course that would never happen... well unless it was in Psychostrike...Given the fact that we do have bug reports coming in, some of which referencing BGT script function errors, I do think this release was rushed at least a little. I am keeping an open mind as to whether these things are fixed or left to rot in the sun. Ive seen enough games go down the tubes to not be too disappointed if this one follows. But if it doesnt get abandoned and instead gets even better, then I will try to embrace that.Okay, there are probably still some things about this which I have failed to say, but at this point I think were beating a dead horse until one of the developers gets back here to talk about this with us. I would be very interested to hear how the develop
ers are taking these criticisms. Perhaps they underestimated what the majority wants and thought this was going to be good enough for most. Whether they thought this or not really doesnt matter to me, Id be understanding either way at this point. Now I will pose a few questions about the game itself.1. How do you check food and cash without going into the menu and selecting give this character food or give this character cash?2. How do you get captured by the police? Ive gotten captured once and killed once. More often than not I fight until my health is around 40, then make for the exit.3. Since the computer AI isnt very smart, at present what is the purpose of starting a gang? I havent bothered to find out. Can you accidentally kill your own team, and if so, how would you avoid doing that?4. How do the police come in? Are they always on the board or do they show up after a certain period of time? My guess is th
e former.5. Do the police actually respond to loud noise and civilian slaughter? Ive noticed that maybe for the first few seconds the police dont bother me too much... though sometimes they seem to be suspicious as soon as I walk in before I do anything. after a few seconds I cant tell if theyre actually responding to what Im doing or just blindly rushing in to capture me.6. Does the owner in the weapon shop always attack you while youre in there, or does he only attack if you attack him first? My guess is the former.7. I got the pistil by accident once, but dont know how I got it. I did get loads of pistil cartridges before getting the pistil though. Do you have to be above, say, level 6 to get the pistil to spawn in the weapon shop? Does the game somehow know that you should probably get a pistil and makes it likely to appear, or is this whole thing a matter of chance?8. How does loyalty get increased? Ive tri
ed paying those with low levels of loyalty and feeding them so they dont go hungry, but this barely changes anything, even over a somewhat long period of time. Perhaps loyalty is a very longterm statistic that needs to build over time?I also found it sort of cool that if the gang leader gets killed, the other members of the gang can still go on missions, but still expect cash? My impression was that I, as the gang leader, would pay them, so if I die, someone else would become leader? If thats not the case, then running a gang without an official leader could be a little dangerous though in this game I think it could work pretty well, judging by the mechanics, though keeping loyalty in check would become more of a problem I suppose. My Suggestions:1. Make the BG music and possibly the ambience volume adjustable. Its pretty cool but sometimes I like hearing things in the distance before rushing in like a mad criminal. Although Ive started to be
come used to the music volume where it is now.2. Change environmental sounds for each stage. While the farm sounds cool, the bank, weapon shop, and everything else just feels like another game board.3. Be able to tell your

Re: Tentative Entombed 2 Design Decisions

Im not sure about evolving Arjan, ie, just levelling up and becoming something else, it strikes me that is a bit too pokemon specific for a fantasy rpg, though perhaps one other option might be to have the pet tied to player character level, ie, when your character got to a higher level she/he earned a better quality pet as a reward. For example maybe rangers start off with a standard wolf, then at level 5 you get a message you leave your wolf to carry on in the wild without you then at level 6 A direwolf pup decides to leave its pack and join you This could be a fun way around keeping pets up to scratch with dungeon level, plus could include such fun things as paladins with mounted combat skills when riding their noble steed, a noble steed which gets better as you acquire nobler steeds t higher levels . Still
, I really would like a pet shop in the game, sinse the chance to buy a different pet for your character would be awsome, particularly if occasionally the pet shop had unusually powerful animals for sale.

I myself dont think Id change to iOS for this reason. Im ready, however, to change to iOS only for iPhones accessibility, which is a phone, not a watch. it is possible to check the time on your device and thats what I need. Id spend my money on an expensive golden bracelet or neckless, rather than a watch. I know it is smart, but I think I can do almost everything on my iPhone device without ever needing to spend 300 or 400 dollars on it.

@seal: The idea wasnt to make the it the only way to gather features, but allow one to get a donation system functioning in the first place as unlik eint he mainstream world, the number of people who will donate to audiogames is limited...and honestly most of them are unable to donate for whatever reason, or in some cases, are just really really cheap and want things for free. Audiodefense tried to get donations right off the back with a concept listed and they did not reach the goal. The game they were able to produce a fun game to pass the time, but then people complained why the game could not have had more despite the donation goal not being met. And also characters for Skull girls tends to be more sugnifficant than one can expect, especially in regards to multiplayer matches where the new character may have differing movesets one has to learn to avoid, want to play with and fighting games tend to be limited on features.
There is the basic stage design, the fighting system itself, any other extras they wish to put into the game, and the characters, which are usually one of the main focuses of a game as the community tends to enjoy and have favorites of which character is better or had a great background. Saying a dlc character is not as big as a feature in a game is kind of degrading the importance of these characters. And characters are just as big as a feature since half the time who is included as playable characters can judge the quality of a game at times.

Re: Psycho Strike - New Strategy/Action game

I have looked at the demo and at the manual, but what I was unable to figure out is how certain things are supposed to work in this game.I get it that you can free prisoners to become your minions. But how does this works.I break a prison door down with whatever weapon I have, but what then? Will all freed prisoners follow me automatically while still in the prison, or will they automatically exit the stage before the main player character does it?And if I get some party members, how do I missions with them? What can I order them to do and what is computer controlled? And while I played the demo for several times, I was totally unable to get other weapons than knifes.Seriously, I was in the weapon shop for over five minutes and I killed lots of people and I got lots of ammo for a pistol, but I was totally unable to get said weapon itself. Is this a demo limit, or am I doing something totally wrong here?About the entire
audio vs mainsteream discussion:It is sadly true that audio games often are released, get some maintenance updates but are never expanded and then later get abandoned (Bavisoft, BSC Games etc).On the other hand, games like ESP Pinball Classic/Extreme for example were prime material for lots of expansions in the form of new pinball tables. Why Pinball extreme got only one expansion I never got.And why such games as Shades of Doom or the above mentioned ESP Pinball Extreme never got level editor tools released to the public for free or as a paid feature I also dont know.Imagine if we could have created our own tables for the pinball game or made our own mods/levels for Shades of Doom in the time when these games were first released..I havent played much with Paladin of the Sky and Adventure at C. However even I know that Adventure at C: has many levels, good sounds and a level editor.Granted I am not sure if a level editor was a go
od idea for Psycho Strike, but we know that it is possible to expand such games.I also dont know why Paladin of the Sky is perhaps too minimalistic regarding sounds (environment, fights, your characters walking around), while this first version of Psycho Strike seems to have lots of good sounds but not a big story or not so many unlockable features at the moment. And like assault_freak I know of the Japanese audio games. What I dont know is how the Japanese developers can design games like BK3 or Shadow Line, release them for free and still manage to release content expansions frequently with high quality sounds and music without requiring the players to pay for the expenses of the developers. On the other hand, the non Japanese audio game developers release their games and put updates out, but most of these games dont get this high amound of content updates regardless of whether expansions would be free or paid. And if good sounds and mu
sic are expensive, how come that the Japanese developers manage to create their work without charging $50 per game while some game companies who put out several paid games still seem to be using the same sound or music sets/sources in their titles or the same style of gameplay? Why are only the Japanese sidescroller/RPG games filled with over 100 individual levels/stages to play (BK2 and BK3) with the possibility of more to come later? If BK3 was a paid game, several content updates apart from bug fixes could have been expansions like the DLC characters in mainstream fighting games, more unlockable features or new levels or missions. What I dont get is why most commercial audio games are not designed in a way which makes it easier for the developer to add content later on?However I think I know why this is.I personally think that BGT as a programming language specially designed to work best for audio game creation is a good starting point, but if we
look closer at what is actually delivered with it I start to ask some questions. For Example, BGT has the ability to be used to compress your game data (e.g. sounds and music) into a special encrypted archive format. But if the archive format remains the same except the encryption key/password, then why doesnt BGT ship with a universal pack creator/extractor?Did everyone who made free or paid BGT games write his or her own Pack creator to create their data files themselves? What I mean is that mainstream games often are created with game engines which do lots of tasks in the background but simplify game creation in the end even for sighted people. If a 3D world is used for example, you would have some kind of level editor where you could move around a part of your world with a virtual camera and place objects, enemies or other NPCs with a few clicks. If the world is complex, this is better than to design the world in your scripting language line
by line.I think our community would need such an engine which would probably help.We partially have seen how audio level designing tools would work (2D Platformer or Adventure at C:).Imagine to have

Re: Psycho Strike - New Strategy/Action game

Hi,To address a few things:If Aaron was able to make a complex game like AAC or Paladin of the Skies, then creating a game like Psycho Strike is really a quality downgrade. If two people work on it, then I would expect actually better quality gameplay-wise then those previous two.Yes. Audio game developers do not have the budget of mainstream game companies or studios, but thats fine. As long as the gameplay is good enough, the sound design does not have to be top notch. With Psycho Strike, this has been almost the opposite. e have something shiny and flashy, but as far as the gameplay goes, its grinding on 9 small stages all the time.As a developer, I always focus on gameplay first. If I have no idea of how gameplay will work, then I am not making a game out of it. Sound design is mostly happening either later, or at the same time when I am coding a feature.Games do not have to sound perfect first. Look at Shadow Line. The first version d
id not sound too great, it had no prerecorded voices, but the community embraced it, because the gameplay is brilliant. Then came version 2, with voice acting and updated music. This is how it should have been from the start, but it was worth the wait. For some reason, Psycho Strike really feels like it was rushed. Perhaps it was intended to be simple and the game price is high because of the resources used. Perhaps there will be updates coming. Perhaps none of the above, I dont know. But I would have waited, even years if needed, to add more content to the final version. This really should have been a very nice concept demo.Rob

Also great that the xbox controller can be plugged into the computer and used for the windows based games. I will email his mum now and find out what games he played previously and come back to you.
