While Chicago has its flaws, it struck me as a completely different world from anywhere Ive visited in Florida (except maybe Disney, because they actually have amazing buses and ferries and trains). I went to Chicago once with a group from my Chinese class, and everyone was walking everywhere and theres a subway and there are always a couple intersections where there will always be half a fleet of taxis waiting for passengers and we never once had to wait for a City Bus (you know, those noisy smelly things where youre at the mercy of the drivers willingness to tell you where you are without making a fuss?). Its quite possibly the most pedestrian-friendly place Ive ever been inside the US. And I wasnt really being dragged around everywhere so much as I could follow whichever fragment of the group I wanted at whatever distance.At the moment, I just sit alone at home until my parents decide to tell me Im watching their dogs while
  theyre away (tell, not ask). It can be hot and muggy in Florida, but its rare, in my experience, for it to be as oppressive as it is here. And all the touristy areas Ive been to, while still suffering from American Sprawl, are much, much more walkable than this place. And I really have not taken the past 10 years well, psychologically. There is a bus stop within a reasonable distance, not that I know what Id do if I managed to reach it, but to get there, I have to walk through the local summer and death-swarms (which seem much bigger than they were 15 years ago when I last walked this route) without any sidewalks. I probably could do it, if I was half as healthy as I use to be and I could do it at night in a vampire free time of year to convince the lizard brain that its exactly as safe as it was when I was two.But, again, then what? Theres nothing to do here. This is the sort of town where people either start families and spend all their t
 ime at work/church/the park/watching TV, or run around in a poorly designed subdivision and do drugs with everyone else who doesnt like staying still but cant find anything better to do. Really, had you told me 10 years ago I would just stay at home trying to make video games, I would have thought of it as a decent outcome (seeing as I hadnt yet discovered that my brain hates me and wont actually let me work on anything unless some arbitrary conditions I can neither comprehend nor control are met).

Is it just me, or do the running shoes and running shorts not have any noticeable effect on speed? Idve imagined them being worth at least a point in speed a piece, but together, I dont seem to be getting any faster.I regret to whine about the Keyboard controls suddenly break bug again. My first experience with the new Apple Music, left me pretty cold and wishing Apple had just left it alone, or even better, clone the Music app Microsoft used in their Zune players.First issue is attempting to use the index on the right side of the screen reliably crashed the music app, my temporary solution was to set the rotor in the music app to headings. Now up and down strokes will move you from letter to letter in the index. Microsoft had a much better way of doing it, when you tapped on a letter heading, you got a screen with all the letters on it, tap the letter where you want to go in your list, and you are there!Its apparently no longer possible to access your music library by track title. Often, I know the name of a track I want to listen to, but not the artist. At least the search will search through the titles, but thats not as good as having the track list sorted and presented by titles, as it was in the old Music app.It appears that 
 search results mix tracks on your device with tracks available from iTunes. It would have been nice if tracks in your library were listed separately from those on iTunes. Maybe they were and I was confused, if so thats the new Apple Music for you.In all, I call it as, Apple stumbles, again...

Sort of, I suppose. In many respects its not much different from flashing blocks already, the only difference being they move and/or change pitch. Been running a few tests with the idea using the same tone at different pitches, thinking maybe using different kinds of tones for each slope or direction they flow might be better. Uploaded the recording to my repository, first half is with a higher slope on the left moving down, and another on the right moving to the bottom corner, second half is a slope in the lower left moving up, and the one on the right still moving down. Seems to have too much of a bleed effect at the moment.Maybe another way to help cut down on noise would be to render only the side of the screen the players character is facing in the respective left/right audio channel? That way you wouldnt get the interference from the opposite side, though you could still play enemy sounds and such.

If you are using windows 7, I promise internet explorer is at fault.I had trouble using internet explorer when I was using windows 7 ultimate 32 bit. I remember the electricity cut off while using it. This happened two or three times, and then using internet explorer became a pain in the neck. So try resetting internet explorer to the default options. Or reset internet explorer to the default settings[ something similar]. Im not sure if itll work though.Windows 7 is becoming obsolete now.

Hello there everyone, been working on a new Real Time Strategy Demo for the past month, figure a good place to get some feedback would be posting in the New Releases section, heh. Quick rundown on the features:-The demo features a top-down grid perspective of the environment, objects like buildings, resources, units, and terrain all have unique sounds to identify them. It runs at a resolution of 640 by 480 with over 300, 32 by 32 tiles.-It uses a Proximity Mouse system, with the position of the mouse determined by 3D stereo panning and pitch. The closer objects are to the mouse, the louder their unique identifying sound is, up to two tiles away in a radius around the mouse.-There are at the moment two controllable units and three buildings, you cant build anything, but you can harvest resources and blow some stuff up.-The demo also features a functional Minimap, which is divided into a series of slices that each render only one kind of information. Sounds like you were in the downtown area of Chicago, I lived for six and a half years in River City right on the Chicago River about a quarter mile south of the downtown loop. I absolutely loved it there, however, that was before I lost my vision, but with only 20/60 vision, I was a permanent pedestrian and getting around there was a piece of cake!Then I moved out to Lombard which is about 18 miles west of the downtown area, my apartment there was across the street from a mall, except for a couple of blocks around the mall, there were no pedestrian acomodations, I didnt like it that much, I couldnt get around as easily as I could in downtown Chicago.Im very tempted to thumb my nose at the family that doesnt try to understand what it is to be blind and at least not treat me like some interesting bug or some disease to be avoided, and go back to Chicago.Even though Ive lived in Florida for 30+ years, Ive never gotten used to 
 the heat, and never really liked the state. About the only thing I can think of that Florida has going for it is that they have no state income tax.

Very Upset with Refresha Braille 18 and NVDA

So I have a Refresha Braille 18 and a PACMate40 Braille Display. Both work pretty good. I go into the NVDA Preferences and I go into input gestures. I see Emulated System Keyboard Keys as a category. When I use my PacMate40 on my desktop, IO have 19 emulated keys to play with. And I most certainly take advantage of those. Now when it comes to my Refresha Braille 18 and the Mac with Bootcamp Windows, I only have five keys to mess with. And they are Up, Down, Left, Right, and Enter. Thats it. To me, there should be no excuse for just 5 keys. I cannot do tab or shift tab on the Braille Display. This really pisses me off! So if anyone has any Ideas I can work around this, please let me know. Yes I know you can reach to your laptop keyboard to do tab and shift tab and then reach back to your display. But who in the hell wants to be doing that crap!? I sure as hell dont!!!Well have a good one everybody.

I may have been wrong, its worse that I thought. JAWS may be the culprit because I had to switch to NVDA to use Firefox. I believe the problem is in the latest update that was released a couple of days ago, after I installed it, I noticed the problem though at first it wasnt bad, it only happened occasionally, and only needed an F5 or a control+F5 to get it working again, but now it happens all the time and the F5 keys dont help, the only options are to wait to see what happens or to use Alt+F4 to exit.The issue I have with Firefox is that Ive run across several web sites that are fine in Internet Explorer but in Firefox, the links and buttons are unlabeled, and it doesnt matter which screen reader youre using.

hi,no, this game is not based on sounds as brad said, it is tekst based ...but i tested it with a good friend of mine, what do you mean? i mean the registration proces. but she also couldnt press nor find the register button. I signed up with my facebook account by going to the login link and selecting the facebook login method. after that i pressed the login image and my facebook page opened up, asking me if i want to give illyriad acces to my facebook profile, the standard proces for facebook. i agreed and i was in.You can try this if you really want to try the game.hthgreetz mike

Distancing myself from the blind community

Hello everyone. So in the past few days, Ive been leaning away from the blind community. Ive been hanging out with my sighted girlfriend and her sisters and there boyfriends on twitter and there was only one drama that happened last night. However, in my experience, the blind community has started to resemble a cesspool of angst, drama, and immaturity, with a few small oases of calm, civilized individuals. Those are the people I will remain in contact with. Ive lost so much faith in the blind community after reading a topic chock full of drama. It looked to me like 2 year olds fighting over a ball. However, in the sighted community, civility is so much easier to come by and I love it there. Most of them are accepting and Ive made so many new friends. Please keep in mind Im not targetting any individual person on this forum but some of you, be it over skype, twitter or online games, have lost my respect and faith. I think myself above none of you, howe
 ver some peoples actions have caused me great annoyance. I wish you all the best in whatever goals you have for the future.

Hi,really nicely done, Im looking forward to see more of this. I dont have the game so cant really try it right now, but Im not sure if Id be able to know when to jump with these explanations. And my first question would be if these platforms are just higher ground or if there are pits to fall into if you dont jump at the right time? If they are just higher ground, I guess you could just run into them and jump if you cant walk forward anymore, but since there seem to be platforms above another there seems to be more to this.I know thatt especially jumping parts are hard to explain in audio, its just a hint for something to notice for future recordings.But this idea is really great and Im looking forward to more of this. And I hope you can do some games which are available for PC as well, since I dont own any gaming console and probably never will, its just to much cost and trouble for me with the f

so ive posted on here about my monopoly game before. while its not 100% complete i think im at the point where im comfortable with the python i already know and working on it the same way i am now would only be more work for me in the long run. that being said, im looking to start turning this into a real game and not something in the command line. is pygame the best way to do that and yet still keeping it accessible? ive seen a bit of pyaudiogame. is that worth looking into? if i should still stick with pygame, what are some general practice things i could keep in mind? lastly, are their any pygame/pyaudiogame tutorials out there youd recommend? happy forth to all.

Jean, you yourself are acting like a child, by not allowing us to state what is clearly factual. Freedom scientifics intentions are clearly to enforce money out of people to be able to use a screen reader for there computer. But, heres what they dont realize. Microsoft narrator is becoming more accessible by every windows version. I have no doubt that narrator may leave even NVDA in the dust. But not this year, of course. Jean, what you dont seem to understand is, were not wishing anyone them il, just the company. And do you know why? Simple. Because, theyre stating plainly in the ULA that what theyre trying to do is get the most profit as possible, and youre falling for it. There entire company is a scam in order to get more than $3 a year at peoples expense. Now heres a message towards freedom scientific. I could buy a $600 laptop computer and pay another $1000 for a copy of jaws 16. But another way I could do it is, I co
 uld easily buy a mac Minny for $600, and it already comes with a completely functional screen reader, voice over. By th eway guys, I have no idea where Im going with this.

Well, thats not good. The black screen isnt unusual, since the Demo actually doesnt have any graphics other than a mouse pointer, although I could put them in if people prefer. I have a feeling this has something to do with loading the resources, I was having a hard time packing the damned *.exe right before posting it. @Giovani, its not exactly welcoming to a new developer to accuse them of spamming, and besides any audiogames and even includes a link to hear an audio playthru is just the sort of spambot we want on this site . Unfortunately, Im having the same issue, blank window, nothing happening despite waiting for a long time and trying lots of keys, hopefully the issue is fixable. More generally, while the audio scrolling is a nice idea Im not sure how possible it will be to build up an overview of the information using just this method rather than having a specifically set out list of areas such as grids or squares that can be moved between with arrow keys and ways to find the placement of units and objects and in particular their relative position to each other, Im also not sure about this command window scrolling thi
 ng, but neither is something that I can really pass a judgement on without playing the thing myself.

Hello. @geneWarnerThe problem with NVDA skipping over lists may be due to the fact that the use screen layout setting is turned on. Try and turn it off by pressing NVDA+V (thats insert with the desktop layout and capslock with the laptop layout). See if that fixes the HTML issue. As to the issue with a file manager, I have always used Windows Explorer and have not used a file manager except on note takers. What OS do you have? If its Windows 7 I could try and download it and see if I can duplicate your issue. Also, what NVDA version do you use? Thank you, and I hope that turning use screen layout off fixes your issue.

One complaint I have with the blind and visually impaired community is how hypocritical they are. They complain about people treating them badly, yet they are so intolerant of other people when they make mistakes.Take this thing with Freedom Scientifics ridiculous license agreement. Most of the blind or visually impaired people here have made it clear they prefer NVDA to JAWS, so Freedom Scientifics license agreement will have no affect on them, yet I see a lot of them resorting to childish behavior like calling Freedom Scientific silly names, and wishing misfortune on its employees, many of which are blind or visually impaired people too.If this is typical of the way blind and visually impaired people behave, I think Ill be careful about my associations with them. Im a mature adult and I prefer to associate with mature adults, or at least people who behave like they are.

I agree that the name calling aspect is rather childish, but I consider, (and that has only increased since I discovered NVDA, voice over, System Access and narrator), Freedom Scientific to be unfair with the way they price jaws. Im aware that the company in question has produced other products, both hardware and software, so I dont really see the point in putting such a high price on Jaws, especially considering the fact that it can be a real pain to install.

Id actually be extremely interested in something like this. I will admit that I have very little experience with this kind of tabletop roleplay style, but I do know enough of the abstract concepts from playing Kerkerkruip/kerkerkruip-esk games and muds that, given a few hours crunch time with a guide, I should be able to work out at least the broad strokes. Anyways, Id love to part of an active roleplaying group, weather it be through internet or face to face somewhere, or over Skype.Somewhat related: has anyone ever found an accessible version of the World of Darkness stuff? Ive looked for rulebooks in the past, and although I have found at least a little bit of information for most, World of Darkness seems to be the least accessible, without having to pay. Most of what Ive found is either a pdf file thats a large collection of unlabeled graphics, or something that references the books a lot, but doesnt exactly explain the rules.A
 nyway, if anyone does want to start a roleplay group, Id be glad to join and hopefully contribute.

Ive been monitoring this topic in case a moderation intervention is needed. I will remind people that the blog with the article referencing the issues with the jfw ula was not written by Coltonhill01, but is a blog from a different site that Coltonhill is directing people to. Therefore, the issues of the jfw ula, and the language that certain people use about Jfw or Freedom Scientific are two very different matters from two different sources and should not be thought of as related, particularly sinse the blog article laying out the authors concerns is clearly not intended to be insulting. Well, thats not good. The black screen isnt unusual, since the Demo actually doesnt have any graphics, although I could put them in if people prefer. just spoke with my team and yes they can do walk throughs for game of thrones and the walking dead series.as for infamous, they stated that would be very difficult seeing that it is a 3d world with a lot of exploration, but they would still do a brief walk through of the beginning and if we like it they will continue.

Some of the criticisms I see are destructive, not constructive. Alright, thank you everyone for you feedback and interest! Soo, have abit of a Good News, Bad News kind of thing.Good news is ive been looking into the issue and Ive been able to replicate the it on another rig, Bad News is I have no idea what the hell is causing it. The sound seems to be loaded and playing, since left clicking after a short time the mouse pointer appears, but for whatever reason the sound isnt playing. I think it may have something to do with the Audio Drivers or the latest version of pyglet, im going to try hitting up developer community and see if I can find a solution, until then ive taken the download down.It would also be helpful if you could tell me what OSs your using, since it seems to work ok on my WinXP rig.

Rhythm heaven has much more guidance than rock band does. Rock band doesnt have any sounds that tell you what to press, you have to use some musical knowledge and logic to figure out what the notes are for each song.

Greetings Terminator.Okay lets get the criticism out of the way so we can concentrate on the good stuff. No worries, it isnt really bad.The only thing wrong in my opinion with part 5 is the way the music cut off abruptly instead of letting it build up to the climax. In most if not all Disney movies, once the tragedy ends and all is well once more, the music itself sounds triumphant and the ending is long. So even when you stop talking, let the music play out and I also recommend you get people cheering, clapping, jumping for joy. That would make an already good story epic in my opinion.Okay now for the good stuff.If I thought parts 3 and 4 were moving, part 5 definitely moved me. I dont know of anyone who would willingly resurrect someone because they wanted to be with them. Various starship classes on dmnb.This is a list of starship classes one can order on dmnb, newly updated to take into account the new ships which are being baught.Note because dmnb has gone through several changes, much of the information pertaining to older ship classes has been notoriously out of date, so im updating this article to explain what each ship class is.Inovations light freighter. Designed as a replacement for the corian mining freighter, these vessels have a top speed of 600, sporting a graviton ion power core engine, they can store a lot of cargo but are slow accelerators.Inovations cargo freighter. These ships are the next generation of light freighters. Storing twice the amount of cargo, these ships are capable of going at speed 2000 past lightspeed. The acceleration on these ships is slow and sluggish, but it can be upgraded at bakuan5.Inovations asteroid hauler. These small, box like starships sport a hypertech fusion drive en
 gine, capable of going at lightspeed. They are designed specificly for the process of hauling asteroids to any shipyard for credits.Dwarf corvette. This little cheap starship is a fast ship, and with good reason. Yeah, I really liked CCleaner so I was really disappointed when I discovered that parts of it were inaccessible without a mouse.Two possible solutions to try are the touch cursor in JAWS or NVDAs mouse handling capabilities. Ive heard that both can help in situations where user interface elements are not accessible with a keyboard.Ive sent an email to Piriform offering to test CCleaner for accessibility, I havent heard from them yet, I hope they respond favorably.

So, other than to malign and wish for misfortune to befall all the people working at Freedom Scientific for the actions of a few,and of course to attract more readers to view the ads on his page and thus earn him a few more pennies, what other motivation could this blogger have to actually read one? Besides, its been proven in court that those shrink wrapped license agreements are unenforceable, though that hasnt stopped the software vendors from using them. So this ridiculous software license agreement that a couple of idiots at Freedom Scientific created is a whole lot of nothing.Even though that first line seems like Freedom Scientific is trying to trap you in an agreement you havent read or agreed to, they arent. I lost my vision to an aggressive form of glaucoma two years ago. For most of the past two years, I was in a deep depression over my vision loss. I wasnt interested in doing anything or socializing. I just stayed shut in in my apartment and listened to audio books all day. But now in the past month, Ive started coming out of the depression, Im reaching out to people Ive lost contact with over the past two years, reconnecting with family. and Im getting interested in doing something useful with myself again, before I lost my vision, I was a software developer, so now Im getting back into that, Ive decided that I want to learn to develop audio games. I have a couple of ideas, and I also have ideas for a couple of programs that visually impair
 ed people might find useful. In other words, things are looking up!When I found this community, I thought Id found a great place to hang out and socialize with people who might have similar points of view and outlooks because they were also visually impaired as I am. But over time, the way some people here behave, I find myself leaning away from this community and towards those communities Id been a member of since before I lost my vision. As Ghost Writer said, I found they are generally happier, friendlier, and are very accepting that despite my blindness, I can be a useful member of the community. I find I enjoy their community more than I like this one.An example: I;m taking a look at the NVDA screen reader as a possible alternative to JAWS. Since I would be actively comparing the two screen readers, I thought my comments would be welcome in the modern day comparison of NVDA and JAWS topic, what I got instead was to be ridiculed for my choice of file man
 ager instead of Windows explorer and a remark that because the writer changes his own settings when he needs to he cant help me with mine, how does changing his own settings when he needs to prevent him from helping anyone else with theirs, unless hes just saying, I could help you, but I dont want to, what the heck? And besides, I never asked for any help from anyone, I was just relating some of the issues I was encountering. As a community, we should be helping each other or at the very least, respecting each other and our choices, not the ridicule and disdain Ive seen people show to other peoples choices just because they dont agree with theirs. Too often Ive seen people ridiculed because they choose to use and like JAWS instead of NVDA, , or, in my case because I choose to use a file manager other than Windows explorer. Not only is that not right, its unacceptable and shows a lack of tolerance and maturity.When the topic of F

Any company in that position, is going to sue the violators of their patent. It wasnt until after they filed their law suit that the patent was struck down. So there is nothing here you can fault Freedom Scientific for, they behaved the way any other company would were they in the same situation.
