Yeah if this happens where it says your character's name and nothing else, or a bit of nonsense, it just means there's no translation for that part of the story. Just keep hitting enter. I can't believe you didn't hit that by now, as when you first install the game, you have to hit enter like 20 times for it to do whatever and update.

Interesting.   I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I have never even heard of audio games or had any idea that blind people enjoyed PC games.   I have a few deaf or hard of hearing friends, but none that are blind.I can't imagine right now how this could be entertaining to anyone without sight.  If you have any ideas I'd be interested in hearing them.    The simulator is about experiencing what it's like to drive a boat.  Are you two blind as well?  If so, I assume you're using audio software to read the website?   Sorry if these are tired, old questions.  I'm completely ignorant here.   You've got me intrigued though and I'd like to learn more.   I suppose I could just peruse the forums here to see what people are playing, how these types of games work.

Yep, we're all about audio games here, some developed by our own community, some developed by sighted folks who acquired some interest in us, You might want to meet Aprone, and as it stands, he's one of the moderators here. He's created a first person MMO style zombie shooter / survival game called Swamp. Me being low vision, and not totally blind, the oculus rift does hold some interest for me, although, I wouldn't get much out of it since my left eye is completely blind. It's weird not being able to see in 3D, but being able to conceptualize in 3D space better than some sighted people. I am still going to watch the trailer, because this interests me personally.As far as how we get access to our computers and phones, those programs are called screen readers. They use text to speech to generate spoken output for us. Some of the voices can be quite robotic, and those are the ones you get going really fast, and some are quite human and naturally sound
 ing. They actually have different approaches to gather that's input to the screen. Some of them use video capturing that intercepts the video chain and others read code, like HTML code to get the layout of the web pages we visit. So things in HTML that we can grab onto are headings and we have access to all 6 levels, ordered and unordered lists, including the list items inside, links, frames and landmarks, horizontal separators, edit boxes and form fields, checkboxes and radio buttons blocks of text which do not contain links, and probably some more I am not thinking of at the moment. Most screen readers have a way to search a list of links, or elements of a page.Once we learn a site, we can navigate it pretty quickly. There is one game, called Skullgurls, which has an accessibility mode, although I can't speak first hand, as I don't own it, but the game can output the text of menu items to the clipboard, and a program can then have the screen reader grab that and spe
 ak it, thus, you can get around the menus and chose characters. There are also audio games for the mobile platforms, most of which are on iOS. A company called Somethin Else, makes the Papa Sangre series, in which you go around collecting memories from an ego maniacal king / spirit who tries to lure you into his friendship.Well, that's probably plenty for now... lol.

This is my latest project, "Design it, Drive it : Speedboats".  It's a high fidelity simulator that lets you design and drive your own speedboats from around 25-30 parameters.   The boats are procedurally generated from the design parameters you specify, so every little tweak affects the handling and top end performance of the boat.   The motion is solved using thousands of forces at the per-polygon level directly on the boat mesh.  The boats can chine walk and blowover much like real boats.  Hundreds of forces are involved in the computation of the force feedback alone.Website with trailer:  http://www.speedboatsim.com/Available now for  Windows PC only. Granted not all mainstream games do feature their outtakes but those that do often have them as a reward for beating the game. Yes, but there's a ton of other things.  Residential internet is not meant for this kind of stuff.  Just doing the math is not sufficient.First, assuming you're using BGT, you're using UDP packets.   UDP packets are not your friend.  TCP gets special status for most ISPs as far as I know.  I'd not be surprised if your effective speeds for UDP are tiny: the internet is allowed to just throw out UDP packets whenever and just because.  The BGT networking object is fine if and only if your game can benefit from unreliable delivery, but most games actually don't and you lose all the advantages of TCP.Second, a proper VPS is going to have better reachability and round-trip times to basically everyone.  You don't have enough people to split the game into multiple servers, so being right on the backbone of the internet is essential.  Most VPSs are.Third, choosing Windows means that you will need s
 ighted help.  Via Linux and with someone like Linode, I can go so far as to access the emergency console and do everything without sighted help.  Linode is expensive as Linux hosts, but the point is that the options are out there.  When Windows breaks, you will need someone sighted.  Even the initial setup of Windows is complicated, as NVDA won't install without audio.  You'll have to learn how to walk sighted people through complicated procedures.  Perhaps you already have someone technically inclined who can do this stuff for you.  But Linux is set up as soon as you buy the VPS.fourth, you have to use dynamic DNS.  Perhaps it's possible to have dynamic DNS always work these days, but I somehow doubt it.  So good luck telling if it's your game or not that's breaking.Finally, if you're not learning to deploy from day one, that can be a stumbling point.  Also, your game will perform much, much
  differently on a VPS.  Local testing is fine when it's only you, but you should not be trying to run MMO-style games from your home for testing.  You'll end up with all sorts of oddities, and quite possibly you'll be fixing bugs that don't even exist.Online games are very hard.  If you choose to use Windows for your hosting needs, you make it even harder.  If you choose BGT, then you might as well go get your teeth pulled without anesthetic because you will be fighting it until the end of time (No good security. No good serialization. No database integration. No string templating, so no easy game status web pages.  No localization/translation abilities).And my last point: good luck deploying to Windows via version control.   You are using version control, right?  If you aren't, then just wait until the pain of how did I break this and I can't get back or ask my tools what I did starts.

Yes, but there's a ton of other things.  Residential internet is not meant for this kind of stuff.  Just doing the math is not sufficient.First, assuming you're using BGT, you're using UDP packets.   UDP packets are not your friend.  TCP gets special status for most ISPs as far as I know.  I'd not be surprised if your effective speeds for UDP are tiny: the internet is allowed to just throw out UDP packets whenever and just because.  The BGT networking object is fine if and only if your game can benefit from unreliable delivery, but most games actually don't and you lose all the advantages of TCP.Second, a proper VPS is going to have better reachability and round-trip times to basically everyone.  You don't have enough people to split the game into multiple servers, so being right on the backbone of the internet is essential.  Most VPSs are.Third, choosing Windows means that you will need s
 ighted help.  Via Linux and with someone like Linode, I can go so far as to access the emergency console and do everything without sighted help.  Linode is expensive as Linux hosts, but the point is that the options are out there.  When Windows breaks, you will need someone sighted.  Even the initial setup of Windows is complicated, as NVDA won't install without audio.  You'll have to learn how to walk sighted people through complicated procedures.  Perhaps you already have someone technically inclined who can do this stuff for you.  But Linux is set up as soon as you buy the VPS.fourth, you have to use dynamic DNS.  Perhaps it's possible to have dynamic DNS always work these days, but I somehow doubt it.  So good luck telling if it's your game or not that's breaking.Finally, if you're not learning to deploy from day one, that can be a stumbling point.  Also, your game will perform much, much
  differently on a VPS.  Local testing is fine when it's only you, but you should not be trying to run MMO-style games from your home for testing.  You'll end up with all sorts of oddities, and quite possibly you'll be fixing bugs that don't even exist.Online games are very hard.  If you choose to use Windows for your hosting needs, you make it even harder.  if you choose BGT, then you might as well go get your teeth pulled without anesthetic because you will be fighting it until the end of time (No good security. No good serialization. No database integration. No string templating, so no easy game status web pages.  No localization/translation abilities).And my last point: good luck deploying to Windows via version control.   You are using version control, right?  If you aren't, then just wait until the pain of how did I break this and I can't get back or ask my tools what I did starts.

Hello,Welcome to the forum. It would be amazing if something like this could eventually be played by the blind community. It might need some work, as it could require voice overs or support for screen reader libraries to read the menus, or extra sounds added for events. We don't have many games that can be played by both the blind and the sighted, and this could be unique, as a lot of people here like simulators. I think it would be amazing if you decide to make your project accessible, we don't have many sighted developers show up here because Audiogames are really niche. But I think you might be able to tap into a market here that's really unique if you decide to go ahead with this.I don't know how we'd be able to design our boats, as if you have to drag and drop stuff that could be hard for us. I don't know if some sort of alternative method could be developed for blind users, I'm wondering if anyone here might be able to help come
  up with some ideas.

unless it is a bug in a very recent update that I haven't seen, I don't know how the heck that one happened. Have you tried enter, shift enter, and tab to go out of the box? ANd what noise does it make. If it's making the text noise that probably means there's some cut scene that hasn't been translated. Just hold A.

Shift enter and tab don't get out of the box... since it's not a conventional dialog. Tab may open the menu, however. and any scene that's not translated will simply show up in Japanese... it's weird to hear about this issue, because my copy of the game works just fine with the latest dictionaries.

this new addon of yours seems to have some issues. It appears that pausing is a bit... Broken? Either the pauses are too long, like punctuation or when NVDA says for example, alert dialog text. Okay button, there's about 300 to 700 MS between text and okay. Or other times, pauses won't work at all, I've seen this bug heavily when trying to spell text with NVDA shift period doubletap. For example, spelling documents may sound like this. D. O C U. M E. N T S. Is it possible for you to fix his bug? I assume it's in the python module, because the eloquence SYN files haven't changed.

Well, people who use Linux sometimes get involved in a LUG, linux user group, now, the podcast entitled Linux Action Show coined the term Virtual LUG. I was wondering, should we have a virtual LUG all for using it accessibly? Also, we might put people onto it,. I'm comfortable with some stuff, but I'm not all that knowledgeable, and so this idea popped into my head for like a skype group, TT/ TS3 / Mumble server. Interest?

Though usually, when I do voiceovers, you can't hear the echo unless the volume is blaring. Also, just a hint from me to other desktop microphone users, do your voice a bit off to the side, in mono mode. Reason you shouldn't hit it in the face is because some mics don't have a pop filter and will do nasty things when you say p.

Ironcross, the game should not be reporting blank if there's no translation, it will simply read out the Japanese, as I stated already. Unless you're using an English synthesizer, in which case that's what will happen. But nothing in stage 1-1 is untranslated, so that isn't the issue.

 ld where there aren't adequate means to learn from mistakes, rather than let something one did as a minor dictate the direction of one's life. Even then, people don't stop making mistakes just because they're older; they just ideally make fewer of them. There's this phrase that gets tossed around: the concept of a "safety net". That is, a "social safety net" (presumably this means friends/family/etc one can count on for support), a "financial safety net" (anything ranging from careful planning to Insurance to wellfare, AIU), etc. What happens when you don't have those? (Of course, being forced to rely on those without any realistic way to improve is pretty depressing, too.)We're in a world where we simultaneously complain about leaches and bums, but also tell people that suicide is not the answer. (The only answer's people seem to offer instead are "choose to improve", therapy, medication,
  religion, and occasionally some "brave cynic" will suggest alcohol or some other dangerous coping strategy. The first one is particularly infuriating because it implies that, at every step of the process, one actively decides "OK, now I'm going to do something risky without thinking about it, and absolutely refuse to try and fix it if it goes wrong! Bwahahaha!")Although, I feel like I'm just playing hot-potato with blame, and the important part is not whose fault it is, so much as whether or not there is a solution which can be implemented.Everyone always, always says "it gets better". And I notice this weird thing where people who strongly oppose suicide also oppose immortality, and people who strongly support immortality tend to support keeping in the option of suicide for those inescapable torment scenarios. (At our current levels of technology, the anti-suicide anti-death, anti-immortality approach almost always results in old people having slow and painful deaths. Would that there were better alternatives than "you will live your allotted time, no more, no less", suicide, and cryonics. The first one kills people. The second one kills people even sooner. The third 
 one is expensive and has way too many easy paths to failure to be all that worthwhile, never mind this weird disgust reaction people have to it for reasons beyond my comprehension.)My second incident was in my first year of university, in which I had no friends, was barely interested in what I was studying, and was failing courses. I have Pentari as the first game in that series was free. I had the first mile demo version, but that's gone. While their games were rather nice, I do agree they weren't nearly as good as the games made by the mass i f community, plus the selfpromotion was a bit much.

Q9 was one of the first ones I played, Battle Zone, it's quite ironic you mention that now because I just downloaded that yesterday and finished playing it before posting this.  And holy crap your 3rd game was BK2? God dang! By the time I played that I was well into audio gaming, but I gave up on it due to the broken ground aspect, (seemingly no way to see how wide it was and if there was one next to it).

Hi!My first game which I could play without sighted hel was Beast World. It was played using SMS. I was playing it in 2012. Next audiogame was tthe hunter from BSC games.And finally, BK2!
