Hi.For audio recordings, many people are recommending Total recorder. I've never used it though. I think Total recorder have a monitor feature so you can record both the system audio and the mic at the same time, but I don't know how that works.Regarding what direction you should run in: The sound of someone running from the center to the left or right might be useful. In this way, a realistic sound could be played, so you kind of follow the foot steps.

Hi.Well I've just recently gotten into playing bass guitar so that's been a lot of fun. In fact I'm picking up a bass amp tomorrow so I can play properly. Lately I've been reading the abduction by james grippando. I like james grippando's series of legal thrillers very much. This is a stand-alone novel so I don't get to see the same series characters which is disappointing. I'm actually beginning to like legal thrillers their a lot of fun to read. Although I don't like those fake ones where instead of taking place in court the lawyer gets a case and then goes out running, fighting, and shooting people, until the end of the story lol! I'm finding that I like these legal thrillers as much as I like murder mysteries and thrillers.Tomorrow I'm excited to be working at my local thrift store and going to a bass lesson! The building system is still their, the reason I said you might not get it this update is because of the changes i've made to both server and client. Lets just put it like this. When I changed to first person and made all that effert to reduce lag by switching players to client side, I did the same with areas, that means rooms, doors, walls, items, you name it. Previously it used to be that players, and areas were entirely handled by the server. When I mygrated all that stuff over, it disrupted the current system I have for building in place, which means its going to take a bit of reworking to get it back up and running again. Everything got effected when I made the change, even the system that played sounds from the server end to the client end, since it relyed on the areas code, the only thing not really effected was the space system itself, with the acception of docking and landing. Speaking of that, I did not say that all ships were going to be orbital only. By orbital on
 ly, I was refering to ships incapable of landing, such as flagships like the galaxy battlecruiser, they will still need to dock to space stations, docking and landing are 2 different things. I said landing for ships because shuttles count as ships, and smaller craft such as freighters, after all, you wouldn't want a freighter to be stuck in orbit would you?

Well Ironcross your in luck. here is Westward, an accessible browser based single player game based on oregon trail As a disclaimer, I've never actually played Oregon trail myself so don't know how similar this game,  westward it's called, is to it. It is however single player, and very playable since it's browser based, and has you trying to get wagons across the old west so hay! I probably ought to give this a db entry actually, since while it is a fairly simple game as people do seem to remember Oregon trail fondly it's one people probably want to know about, and it is hosted by the same chap who writes the very good age of fable online game.

I'd actually appreciate some advice with 4d since while I'm loving the crafting, the quests are just plane irritating, and I have to say while the main administrator is nice other players are less than helpful, it's really a game I have mixed feelings about.I'd also suggest alteraeon as I said just because the recent updates very much go in the direction of crafting. with 3k, I don't have much experience in the game so I'd suggest checking the 3k topic in new releases and asking there, since again it is not a game I've explored much. Likewise haven't yet tried lensemore that annellin mentioned, but it does have crafting of various sorts certainly judging by their website.

I had a similar issue the other day. I just purchased a new windows 10 gaming laptop and decided to install some of my steam games on there. I forgot to go to steam to have it make shortcuts of my games on to my desktop, and so I just decided to go and find the path to the executables of the games. I tried launching the games that way, and I kept getting windos errors. Mind you, this is a gaming laptop, with pretty high specks so, there's no way that this machine couldn't run any of the games i was trying to play. After I got steam to make shortcuts to the games, I could start up the games normally, with no errors. I'm not sure if this is the same issue you are having but, I hope this helps somewhat.

Hello ea_accessibleFor direction, i think the best way is to place a beeping sound on the speaker / headset. When the beep plays, that means you have to turn in to that given direction. For example, if the beep plays on the left speaker, that means you have to go to the left, same goes to the right speaker as well.Another suggestion, it would be good if there is some kind of commentary recaps after each quarter of the game, or even a commercials from the sponsors.As for other games, it would be good if an action or adventure games, especially for shooters can be made accessible. perhaps you're missing lameenc.dll, download it and put it somewhere then you can browse for it, though maybe not since if you say NVDA won't read the message, I don't think I've encountered that before in Audacity, something NVDA wouldn't read.

I'm trying to find online directions.For vibrations, can you suggest a way to know if you should turn left or right? the arrow basically functions like a compass pointing to an ever-moving target. A Small Problem with Audacity

Hi.Well I have some audio files where the pitch and tempo are off. I know how they are supposed to sound so I was going to fix them. I tried to do it with goldwave but I couldn't figure it out. It was showing numbers and percentages and I couldn't figure out how to change them properly. Anyway I got audacity and found it is a lot easier to fix the pitch and tempo because it has sliders to change them. The problem is after I set the pitch and tempo to what their supposed to be but then when I try to save the mp3 it puts up a warning that nvda won't read, then it takes me to the save screen but it wants to save it as an audacity project which I don't want to do. I want the edited mp3 because I want to play it on whatever player I want. I did try to save it as an audacity project but it started loading very slowly then it said audacity is not responding. Can you please tell me how to get audacity to edit and then save the mp3? Or if there isn't a way to
  do this can you tell me how to do this with goldwave? I actually prefer working with goldwave but it seems easier to do this with audacity so if you can help that would be great.

The 2 options are for when the game lists off resources and other messages.  The short pauses uses commas and the long pauses option uses periods.  It just changes how the screen readers read the game messages.

I sent it to HumanWare and the cost came up to three thousand dollars to fix it and I couldn't afford it. I'm sure that's happened in one way or another to some of us on this forum. They won't give you a break so I think it would be better and cheaper for all of us to not have a braille display. As much as I love braille these displays are far too expensive. All I'm saying I'm fine with just speech that way you don't have to worry about the displays breaking down. As far as keyboards I would prefer a braille keyboard because I can type faster on a braille keyboard than I can on a qwerty keyboard although having a qwerty keyboard wouldn't be a problem for me. All that aside I just want to say I love this idea for mkSpeech I've read the specifications and it sounds better than any notetaker we have had in years
 . I can't imagine having an open-source notetaker you don't know how many times I've wished I could remove or make updates to the software of notetakers!

So yeah speaks for itself don't it, I want something like the old Oregon Trail games that In can play that has all the aspects of it. I played the one on the mess apple emulator and it sucks in comparison to the old DOS one, but since my vision is worse now than it used to be, even if I got DOSbox and tracked down the old DOS game, I couldn't read the screen. Question, would someone be willing to make this?If you'd like to see something like this, please thumbs up this post to indicate to potential developers that it's something worth their time and effort and that you'd enjoy it.

I have the autostop set for fields since I already lost about five haulers through hitting nebula fields by mistake. I'll try combat drones though last time I checked they were pretty useless, indeed even with the cloak, last asteroid field I was in I target an of the enemy ships since I was told they were too far away whejn I tried ec, thoug I suppose a direct scan might have worked. Really though how come there is only one ship with a cloak? heck the help file suggests a frigate for harvesting but when I tried a frigate I died in seconds due to not having a cloak. and come most ships don't have weapons anyway? hell I have weaponry skill max for my level at 4.5 but none of the ships I've seen have any weapons anyway other than beam cannons and lasers  oh and misisles in the secondary control room which means I can't use them anyway. methinks there really! needs to be some balance here, especially in terms of what activities are recommen
 ded when and what ships are available, not to mention the necessity of the cloak. I also don't like the fact that basically if I do get a ship destroyed I have to spend bloody ages running around buying a bunch of upgrades from a hole lot of different shops just to try something again! And of course all this assumes I can find! an asteroid in the first place since hell there seem barely any of the things out there!

My favorites are the music when you fight the dragon, and both parts of the music on the 25th floor, the music that plays when you enter, and the music when you fight the final boss is epic! If entombed had a storyline and quests (I mean real quests not just having to kill a certain enemy) it would be a lot more fun.

I know that when I hauled asteroids for the first time, it was roughly a month or two after the game went live. It was not a big deal at the time. My biggest guess was that they up the difficulty some sense then. I used to be able to enter a planetoid field and not have to worry about being shot at. Now days, I am shot at every time I entered. See if you can get your sensor range upgraded. Getting your shields and defensive armor upgraded as far as you can may also be useful, but get some combat drones seeing that they are clearly a must now. I totally forgot that the asteroid hauler has a drone bay. I suggest you use it. That should help out a bunch until you can get the better upgrades. You should launch the drones as soon as you enter the field sense you are getting shot at. You should also adjust the autostop thing so that it only stops for asteroid fields. That should help keep you out of unwanted fields. Trust me, there is some fields that you do not want to enter without he
 at shields. Anyway, get some combat drones as soon as you can. I do not know how much they will help, but they are about the best weapon the hauler has as far as I recall.

Karren, what you could do is use greater bibration in the controller. If the vibration is strong, the player is not on the target. If the vibration is non existant, then the player is in the open field, and is on the path.Also, does anyone know of a good video/audio recording program? I'll do audio for now, but since I can stream with my pc, I'd love to know of any good solutions that are accessible.Thanks,Darrell

@Aaron, I personally found bt desktop[ tool a complete load of rubbish, and I'd highly recommend you get rid of it asap. It once installed a really irritating bt yahoo skin on internet explorer for me that proceeded to make it nearly incompatible with supernova which I was using at the time. needless to say, after that eisode I killed the thing straight off, indeed you don't even need it since most bt services (for the little good they're worth), can be got through the website (well they could until they made the website screenreader unfriendly and flashy). This is why I had to abandon my own private btinternet mail address last year (I'll probably look in to getting another private address soon with someone a little more reliablesoon). And these days I wouldn't touch any of their software with a ten foot barge pole. eHmmm, I'm not having any issues on my machine, but my lady on her windows 7 pc is having really irritating problems

I do not see anywhere in this thread where people have said making games accessible is easy. My full time professional job is to work with people to help them make their user interfaces accessible.  I can tell you from experience that accessibility never happens if there are no discussions about it. @karate25, @SLJ, and others try to make those conversations happen.  Certainly, they may frequently run into deadends. But they do not always find a dead end. Their results can sometimes bare fruit--but that only happens because they are willing to spend their own time and effort to try to start something. By all means, it is important to share stories and information about past challenges and barriers to accessibility. But let's not discourage them from trying. After all it hurts nothing for them to try, while it actually makes it possible that we will end up with more accessible games.

Just my $0.02:BGT is a bit of a love/hate thing for me.BGT is fine with memory usage, but it's shortcomings really show when it comes to other resource usage. BGT is slow for a number of reasons:First, There is clear evidence that BGT is processing window events from the operating system in the same thread as the virtual machine is running. As far as I'm concerned, communicating with the operating system should be done in the program's main thread, and the game engine should be running in a second thread. This adds a bit of code complexity when the game engine tries to update the window, since you can't modify a window from a thread other than the one that created it you have to queue events for the main thread to process.This would result in a fair performance improvement as window events can be time consuming.Secondly, since BGT hasn't been updated in some time it's built on quite a dated version of AngelScript. AngelSc
 ript is a really kool product, but it's major struggle over the years has been surrounding array access overhead. This has been improved in recent updates, but BGT can't take advantage of the improvements unless it's updated.I've been slowly but surely working on what is essentially a BGT clone that will run much faster, run on more platforms than just windows, use the same script APIs as BGT so that porting games will be a walk in the park and offer a few more features which audio games really need. Unfortunately time constraints have kept things moving at a crawl, but I can already tell you that a lot of scripts run several times faster in my work in progress engine than they do in BGT. and since my engine will run on Linux I can use the wonderful Valgrind to detect a lot of stability problems before they are ever experienced by the public. (BGT used to hang and crash a lot, but to be fair I haven't seen it hard crash once in easily over a thousand c
 ombined hours of Manamon and Paladin playing).Back to the topic at hand:I'm sure your Z dimention doesn't need to be nearly as big as your X and Y dimentions. Even if you're portraying outdoor areas where there's virtually infinite space above the player's head, you shouldn't need to represent any more of the Z dimention than what the player can jump or climb to? This might be a great way to get memory consumption down.You definitely want to use integer constants instead of strings to represent tile types. Doing this much string comparison is going to result in a huge performance issue as soon as there are more objects than just the player moving around.and I would definitely stick to arrays when it comes to maps. Dictionaries are designed for fast lookups by name, but nothing can outperform true random access offered by a contiguous block of memory.

Also thanks to @addolis for sharing your experiences.I actually work full time on making user interfaces accessible--though my focus is web and native mobile applications for business use. Affairs of the court I need to try again. As I said much earlier in this topic basically plumped for the big romantic "love conquers all, my family can go to hell I'm marrying my beloved!" type of ending which was satisfying as far as it went but ended the game pretty quickly. Apparently to play through what used to be the two sequel games you need to be a little more of a manipulator with the king than I did,  though actually the play was pretty cool .

I can't use blades yet, and anyway I have no idea where to get blades. If you need all these high level combat upgrades that you can't have, why are activities like asteroid hauling and mining recommended at lower levels anyway? hell, why is the only ship with survival value ie the only one with a cloak the asteroid hauler which only has two practically usable weapons? This is aside from the fact that the asteroid fields aren't showing up in the first place meaning as I said I'm basically spending hours flying around with nothing to do, then getting the hell blown out of me in five minutes when I do! find an asteroid field. I've really enjoyed cosmic rage up to now, but this state is very much putting me off the game since basically it seems that to do anything in space with survival value you need upgrades at much higher levels, which means another fifty or a hundred levels worth of passenger runs and building material deliveries.

It was only after all the sounds were recorded, and were sitting for a while on my hard drive that I thought that other people could use the sounds as well.When I decided to make Ultra sound collection, I have had already improved both with the editing and recording part, and have already had better gear.This time I was also making it for myself, and for other people, but this time I had standards in mind, and any sound that didn't meet my standard wasn't included.So the difference is aproach, gear, and there's also a thing called getting better over time; ssp was released in 2013 or 2012 (I can't quite remember), so it's been 4/5 years since and a lot has changed.As for the sounds being unlabeled in SSP, they are both labeled and metadata tagged in USC.When it comes to the library being shipped, I am unable to do that because of the shipping fees, and I have heard that it is unrelyable, e.g., that parcels tend to get lost.I am quite sure you would be able to download the mp3 version which is only about 760 mb in size...

Greetings all. Continuing my work with both client and server, i've been able to get multiplayer up and running again on my local machine. Since i've had to make quite a few adjustments to the client, i've withheld putting the server back up until the update is released, which at the present time I still don't have a release date for. However, ships are once again operational, they still need quite a few major adjustments however, as docking and landing no longer works. However, as I mentioned previously, with player movement and almost everything else related to players being client side now, this has eliminated massive lag, but broke the minny games including the debris salvage one which i'll have to recode in. As for the storyline, i'm taking a bit of a different approach. I'm still gonna be using the same storyline from the original project alpha, but for those of you who might have played the first dm builds in bgt and the very ruff dm 2 bui
 ld in pure basic from 2013, i'm going to be merging elements of that storyline into this one. Anyways, gotta head out, but i'll continue working and keep you posted.

Hi.My experience with the previous soundpack is what others have said, unwanted noise and quite bad edited sounds if you compare this with a pro pack. At this time, the pack was sold on the concept that the sounds were ready to use without any extra editing. Or that's how I remember it but I might be wrong. One of my friends who also bought the soundpack is a pro sound editor, and he says the soundpack is close to useless, because he expected it to be pro. Please don't take this personal. He might have expected too much.Then, all the filenames have numbers and are not, in my opinion organized that great. It makes it quite difficult to find the sound you need.I'm glad to hear that we can buy categories of the soundpack. However, it would be awesome if you could make a 10 minute demo of sounds from the soundpack, so people can get a better idea before purchasing.

@ironcross32: If all people had the same thoughts like this, accessibility would never happen at all. How do you think many IOS games are made accessible with VOiceover? Because people have contacted the developers. Why do you think EA Games has registered on this forum? Because I and other blind people have contacted them. So, it's good that not all people have those thoughts which are posted in post 2...

I don't have the time or inclination, but this sounds like a worthwhile idea.I guess what EuroFly was trying to do was suspend parts of reality in order to make an engaging gaming experience. Realistic simulators are great for certain types of games or gamers, but that's not what everyone wants to do on every run, and EuroFlyy probably appeals to a certain type of audience that might not want a flight sim necessarily.Happy to donate once you get to the kickstarter stage.

@daigonite: A few years ago, zoho worked just fine for me. I dono if they are still having the accessibility they had back in those days, but at least for me it worked pretty nice. You might want to give that one a try

So my fear came true. I installed Steam and bought Skullgirls, but it will not run on my system. I'm pretty sure that it has nothing to do with my specs, because the game crashes on launch. Steam automatically installed some missing dependencies that i did not have for the game, so I'm a little bit confused as to why it will not work. If anyone has had any experience with this, I would appreciate any tips. This is probably more appropriate for a Skullgirls thread, but hey... I did look up all types of solutions online, but nothing has really worked for me. I have reinstalled Steam, and the game, more than once with no luck. As I said, the game doesn't even start. As soon as Steam launches the game, it crashes with the standard Windows error dialogue, "Such and such program has stopped working. I will now annoy you as I try to look online for a solution that I will never find so you might as well just click close program."
