Interesting topic, I was wondering this as well.Seems like cutting direction and lather choice really kinda depend on hair type and skin sensitivity though, that and if you don't pay for a decent electric shaver you'll get much more raiser burn.

Hi.I vote on "Internal synthesised speech with speed/voice options."1. It will work on all consoles and computers as well.2. The speed can be adjusted to what people prefer.3. Voice can be changed which can be important for those who are having a hearing impairment. With this feature, stats and other useful things could be read out loud, which it normally wouldn't by voice actors.I wouldn't like voice actors to read out menu items for the following reason:Sighted people reads text at different speed. Blind people do that as well, just by speech or Braille.

Brain Wave Vocal Synthesis

2019-02-28 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : magurp244 via Audiogames-reflector

Brain Wave Vocal Synthesis

As reported by [gizmodo]:A team of scientists has been able to translate brainwaves directly from the audiotory cortex of the brain and translate them into speech. To do this they selected a number of epilepsy patients undergoing brain surgery, and invasively inserted electodes directly into their auditory cortex, they then had them listen to people count from zero to nine and recorded their subjects EEG readings, then used the resulting data to train a Deep Neural Network to translate them into speech. The hope is that they will one day be able to create vocal prosthetics for those who are no longer able to speak by being able to translate brainwave output directly into sound, as opposed to stringing together pre-recorded sounds as some Voice Synths do.You can listen to the reconstructed brainwave audio [here].

Re: How should mainstream developers make interfaces accessible?

Yes precisely, and because the recorded voice is the recorded voice and the synthesized voice can be sped up, I would need information as fast as it can be given or as fast as I can take it if that makes sense, so that I can make rapid decisions on how to proceed rather than waiting for normal voice recorded speech, OK I might be able to predict what they're saying before they finish, but then its going to be louder over top the game sounds or they might duck the game sounds under the voices which is really bad IMO.I'm generally not a fan of ducking, though I see the use of it, for example, certain things can be so loud that you literally can't hear your speech, so in such an instant, ducking is OK. That's why On NVDA on windows, a key shortcut to turn that on or off exists, that way you can quickly duck it if needed, but then return to normal. The same with the ducking on my iPhone. I put it in the VoiceOver rotor for when I literally can't hear my speech, I turn it on to resolve that issue, then turn it right back off again because in general, I can do sound and speech at the same time without issue.I feel like some people leave the autoducking on permanently, which is cool, but I would think most gamers would actually not want sound ducked under speech. I may not have an XBOX, but I have heard recordings of gameplay done on one and when people have narrator on, notifications are spoken in game and the game sounds are ducked down to accommodate the speech. That is not necessary though, and could just screw your chance of survival or whatever you're doing. Something might happen in those few seconds that you didn't hear because the speech forced the sound to duck under it.So I guess the TL;DR is if stuff already in game, use it, if not, use synthetic speech as we can crank it and please give option to not duck sound under speech.

Re: strange issue on paladin of the sky

The dragon strike scrolls in Paladin of the Sky are very unforgiving with their timing. If you don't press the key within a few milliseconds after you hear the beeps, you will fail. You have to be fast. If you press the key then hear another beep, that means you performed the last keypress properly and the scroll is continuing. You probably already know this, but you can listen to a scroll in full to get the feel for it before you practice. There are a couple strategies that helped me with dragon strike scrolls:1. Try dividing each scroll into groups of beeps to make it easier on yourself. For example, if you have three beeps, a pause, two more beeps, another pause, then four beeps, you can think of each of those groups separately in your head. That made it easier for me to remember the patterns.2. Learn to count the time between beeps. This especially helps on the longer scrolls.

Plus there's always the scripts issue. Since JAWS has established itself by now, there could be an oddball JAWS script created just for one company's software that isn't accessible with NVDA, and a corresponding addon has not been created for NVDA for use with that software. This is why I think that even though NVDA is gaining popularity and trying to improve support for apps used in business environments such as Microsoft Office, JAWS will always have its place. Also Jade, you agree with Iron on something? That's surprising.

@22"but I wouldn't say if it's not a thing in the game, make it one, if that makes any sense"Just to be sure, do you mean..."If something is already voice recorded for sighted players, don't replace it with synthesised speech. But if you're providing extra info specifically for blind players, don't use recorded voice for it, use synthesised speech. Or if needed and appropriate for some things, use some other form of audio or haptic cue"I'm interested to know more about "diminishing the expeirence". So in that example of a cue to let you know meters are charged, you would see adding recorded voice for that as diminishing the expeirence, but would not see text to speech as diminishing the expeirence. Why is that?

Hey everyone,I have decided to put a link to a skype group so we can talk about this in realtime. Of course, I'll update on here too. I was going to do a stream of me playing NightJar, but not sure since its last minute. My computer broke earlier and I had to open it up and disconnect the cables from the fan and reconect them because the operating system woudn't boot with out them. It was a mess. Anyway here's that link:https://join.skype.com/vpwgbNFhNzvw

@25, forking is the act of taking a group and effectively "cloning" it. Essentially you type /fork in the message box, add all the members you want and repeat ad infinitum and you can fork endlessly.

First: very nice way of going against what you said you weren't going to do (not attack me) and then attacking me anyway, whether intended or not.Second: me telling people to upgrade is not "strong-arming" the issue. I am stating my opinion of what I think people should do. I do not need to state "this is my opinion" in every post I write for it to be my opinion of what action someone or a group of people should take.Other than that I'm quite hesitant to take your post seriously since you openly attacked me when you said you wouldn't. Nice going. I cann't convince everyone that Skype 8 is better. You can't convince everyone that Skype 7 is better. No one can convince everyone that something is better than something else. That is impossible. I can tell you why I believe Skype 8 is better. That does not mean that I could convince someone that my opinion is the 'write opinion'. Finally, you say a "small splinter of the user base" telling people to upgrade to Skype 8. Where are your statistics and evidence that this is a small "splinter" of the user base? I have none to prove that its not a splinter, as there aren't any public ones that I can find. But to call it just a "small splinter of the user base" seems like a wild shot in the dark.Oh, and the onus is not solely on me to prove that Skype 8 is better than Skype seven. I am not the only one telling people to upgrade.

Re: How should mainstream developers make interfaces accessible?

I'd much rather have the announcer read out character selection stuff like that, but I wouldn't say if it's not a thing in the game, make it one, if that makes any sense. Like, don't diminish the experience we already have, since the announcer isn't reading health or special meter or whatever, that I think would sort of not be cool. I'd like to see the tts in those situations, or some other option, maybe a pattern, like let's say I fill a special meter in a fighting game, you could let me know by three quick rumbles. On the xbox, you could use the trigger rumbles, though I never have experienced that since I don't own a console.I'd say if there's a lot of audio information going on, try to come up with another way, like haptics, if that's not an option, like if haptics and rumbles already are being used, then audio is fine but keep it simple and unobtrusive.

Re: Some BK1 questions.

Hi, and sorry for all the troubles. I was 11 when I first released the game. And the code is a mess, you know.threeblacknoises wrote:The question is regarding stats.I've figured out what all the stats do now, but I wonder if anyone knows what the max for each of the stats is as well as the max level you can have?Unlimited. But increasing your speed (quickness) too much will result in making you too fast. Since the game doesn't use high numbers like bk3 does, you won't face overflows. The levelup sounds are random; there's no difference between the three-tone one and harp-ish one.threeblacknoises wrote:The non-game-braking bugs have to do with incorrect door sounds playing in a few places, mainly the character's house. It's just... random when it happens. The game braking bugs have to do with exiting Ark Higher City and still being in the city even if the forest music is playing and enemies can be encountered. This happens after I leave out the north exit and then try to go back to the forest that's before the city, you know, the one with the matsutake selsman. The NPC who lets you out of his house after you've killed the first boss boy can be killed, and this will leave the player stuck. The warp to the second dungion has no confirmation prompt what-so-ever!This wouldn't be so bad if the player had a way out other than finishing the level, but as it stands, I had no way to leave and prep when the boss was really, really hard at my then current level.I did manage to sort-of get lucky and kill it, but I was really considering restarting my game for a little while their.I have to say that things that would make you stuck were... intentional. You'd say why the hell? I was 11. That's all. What a kid thought is fun but annoying.threeblacknoises wrote:And the last thing...For some reason, the option to load the game from the ingame menu won't appear unles I unequip my weapon by pressing escape on the weapons screen.I can't navigate back to it with the arrow keys after leaving it, so I wonder if this is some kind of weird design decision on your part, or just an oversight do to this being your vary first audiogame.I don't know. The game shouldn't be loaded at the ingame screen; it breaks the game sometimes.threeblacknoises wrote:And a suggestion just in case you somehow remake or add this game into some kind of BK collection or something...The quickness and fitness stats should really be combined into just a single stat.Just call it fitness or something. As blindNinja mentioned, quickness and fitness affect different attributes for the char, so I probably cannot merge the two.threeblacknoises wrote:And the having to press shift to move fast in the field and control to move fast in battle once my quickness stat is high enough is sort of confusing. But I completely agree with this.

Audio Positioning in Python

Hi,How can I go about writing something that works similar to the way soundpool works in BGT? For instance, I want the sound to update every time I move, just like what happens with update_listener_2d() in BGT. Is something out there that already handles this? I saw somewhere to use Pyglet for handling sound in keyboard input, so if I can implement a soundpool like behavior with Pyglet that would be great. Thanks.

It looks like players using different mods can't see each other when connecting to the same server. That's good to know. Speaking of mods, the flying town hall is awesome and orc would be as well, except for the fact that you can use dark archers. They should be removed because even a small group of dark archers can massacre an army of orcs. It's extremely unfair! I destroyed over 300 grunts and about 10 buildings using 18 dark archers. Here's another feature suggestion. Please add a key to check the players on the server. Currently, this information is only spoken when you first connect.

I would want text to speech. as long as I get info on what and where I am on the screen that's all that matters. if its a game like fable where you have quest markers have the control vibrate as you get closer to the quest location. if your at the guild and doing the archery stuff I guess depending on how far the targets are have them play a beep or a tone when your centered on them.

Re: How should mainstream developers make interfaces accessible?

As it stands, I'd love for a way for multiplatform games to ahve accessibility features no matter the platform. Depending on what works and what doesn't, a combination could be practical, perhaps a voice reading the menus but a tts reading the dynamic content, such as nickname and such. Although for a game like Magic The Gathering which does not use voice acting, then everything should ber ead by tts. You should be able to get info such as what a card does, and a way to view yours and opponents critical information such as health. However, I don't exactly know how this could work with a controller if there's a game with a lot of stats to view a.k.a magic the gathering. For a game like Rock Band, use tts, for the menus and for the end of song screens such as stats and scores. If a fighting game has customizable features a.k.a the upcoming mk11 then all that really neds to be done is make sure the gear has a readable name with the tts, but it'd be kind of cool if the announcer voice or some other voice could read the main menu, although at the same time, it depends. Having a tts voice all the way, offers consistancy.

Actually the menu thing I mentioned of not using suggested screen layout also helps with the combat map.If you hit T you will be on the save button, going up arrow from there you can then view the map successively, so for example if it says "metal"   immediately up from the save button, metal is what you will get from winning the fight there, you can go up to the top this way and check out all the items. I'm not sure if this will help with the tower defence thing, and I'm still waiting for a pm back on congrigate from the developer but it does give you a vague idea of what loot will be around on each new map. less haply the achievement screen is very graphical and not really of much use, so for achievements your better of checking the wiki, though at  when you get one it does appear in a popup at the bottom of the screen so you know its there. On the plus side though, despite interface shenanigans I actually got a speed achievement for getting to and completing the block in under 8 hours (it probably would've been less if I hadn't stopped to have dinner, which was actually a relief since it means the slowness of navigating with a screen reader isn't too extreme even if it does take a good bit of wangling to work.

What Ironcross said about learning Jaws if you want to work? Yeah, that. Very good idea. You don't have to love it, maybe, but you'd better get used to it. The same way if you want to work in IT but love your Mac, you're still gonna have to learn to use Windows.I applaud you for trying to save your state agency money and all. That's cool. But even though we know 99.% of NVDA users are absolutely no security risk of any kind, it's the principle of the thing, and security is extremely important these days.

Re: Is there a good Skype version left?

2019-02-28 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : Jayde via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Is there a good Skype version left?

Ethin, I'm gonna be honest here. I'm approaching you as a user and not a mod, but I'm having serious trouble trying to wrap my head around your last post. Like, serious logic-doesn't-live-here-anymore trouble. The main thing I take issue with is your contention that it is somehow spiteful not to upgrade to skype 8. I'd like to refer you to the definition of "spiteful" in any reasonable dictionary. Once you do this, I then challenge you to explain how using a provided service in any way matches this definition. Remember that spite is, by most definitions, wilful and harmful, implying some sort of vengeance, malice or ill will toward the target of said spiteful behaviour. This means that the onus is squarely upon you to prove that those of us who use older versions of Skype are doing so either to punish Microsoft or to hurt others. Good luck with that. The next thing I'm going to hit is your contention that we are "daring" Microsoft to end support for skype 7. First of all, if this is actually what you want in the first place, what's your problem? According to you, both in this post and in at least one prior, the sooner they shut down all support for skype 7, the better. You have still yet to refute my claim that this desire of yours is spiteful, by the way; you're merely trying to turn it around on me, and on those of us doing the same as I am, and that's a whole new kettle of corn, but I'll rehash this shortly. Second of all, you presuppose that Microsoft is unaware of the issue, which is, in my opinion at least, kind of shortsighted. You either don't give them much credit, or else you somehow think that a relatively small splinter of the user base is actually going to be the driving force behind a change you're in favour of to begin with. My head is sort of exploding at this point, but let's keep going. Wouldn't it be more logical to assume that either 1. Microsoft is aware of the issue but as yet does not have a compelling reason to shut things down, or that 2. Microsoft may in fact be allowing this loophole to stay open precisely because they recognize the inherent issues with upgrading, the same way it was (and still in some ways is) possible to use really outdated versions of their OS? Let's talk about that OS comparison now, by the way. Using a really outdated version of Windows is going to make even harmless-looking web-surfing a comparatively dangerous endeavour. Using Skype 7, however, does not possess anywhere near the same concerns, and does not risk the security of anyone else either, so the risk of harm is essentially nil. I dunno, but if I were you, I'd consider more carefully such accusations, since it makes Microsoft look like they're being straight-up forced to pander to those of us who won't upgrade, or on the other hand, are being forced to shut us down in the name of progress. I'd personally rather believe they'd do this for sound business-related reasons, myself, but have on.Right, so my last point. Let's come back to that aforementioned kettle of corn, which consists of me claiming that your behaviour seems spiteful, and you trying to turn it around on me.This is patently bullshit. There's no other explanation, and I don't feel a need to sugar-coat it. I'm trying to stop well short of attacking you personally, but if you want a glowing example of why you get people's backs up, Ethin, this is it, right here. I don't know if you considered the impact of your words or not, but to me, it doesn't look that way. What I see is someone who is bound and determined to argue and who can't stand that other people have a perfectly admissible point of view that doesn't mesh with your own. The onus is not on me to give you a list of why Skype 7 is better than Skype 8. It might be if I was trying to convince you to use an older version, but I'm not. If you like skype 8, go nuts, dude. Use it all you like; more power to you, and all of that. You should also take note that at no point, not even a little, have I tried to get other people to regress from skype 8. Some people like it, or can tolerate it, and that is their personal choice. So yeah, the onus is not on me to make that list of why skype 7 is better. The onus is on you to convince me, or others doing likewise, that skype 8 is better, and you absolutely cannot do this. I know because you've already tried and failed. You cannot possibly account for all of the things we like about the version of skype we enjoy, and so you cannot possibly provide good enough reasons for us to abandon what we prefer. Even if you could, who do you think you are, anyway, trying to strong-arm anyone into changing what they prefer? I'm not sure what moral authority is informing your decisions, but it sure isn't doing you any favours. I think you really need to take a long, hard step back and ask yourself if this is the sort of thing you want to convey to the community at large, and to smaller groups of people with whom you

Re: Creating an audio game using Sable (video 6), by Ebon Sky Studios

Hi everyone,Thanks as ever for all the interest in the project , I’ll try and answer some of the questions which have come in below@number 134, as threeblacknoises mentioned, yes battles are turn based in sable, there’s an example of battles in video 4 which is the one about enemies, I’ll also show some more battles in a future video too, but yes things like armour dodging etc are all possible.@number 138. We’ve actually toyed with the idea of changing ability sounds to a similar system as we do for weapons , enemies etc, where we would use sound sets instead , which would  then allow you to have multiple ability sounds. But we’ll just have to wait and see if this makes it into a later version of sable or not. You can give multiple pain sounds to enemies and characters, but this is selected randomly when hit and not affected by the type of damage the character has taken. You can also have different  body fall sounds though for different terrain types.@number 139. I’m personally a big fan of entombed, as it was one of the first audio games I played. I really like the replay value the game offers and part of that is due to the random map generation. We’ve talked about this as a feature, and although its something we would all like to see, its not on the highest priority of things we want to get added in, so although it may get added at some stage, it almost certainly wouldn’t make it into sables  initial release, but maybe if we pursue the idea it might make it into some future release/update.@number 41, thanks for subscribing to the channel and the video likes too, their all really appreciated.  There are some good suggestions and interesting concepts in your post. I completely agree with you customisation is key , and I’ve seen some great suggestions from the community  so far which could add further customisation to sable. I think additional or alternative options for damage calculations is a good suggestion,  But as far as redefining underlying mchanics go though that is beyond the scope of what we have planned for the initial release of sable. We want to give people the tools to be able to create their own games, Sable already has enough customisation that with clever thinking, good storylines and good use of the tools, not to mention clever sound design and use of those sounds that a user can definitly add a unique feel to their games, but their will always be rule systems and frame works that people will need to work within if they want to create a game using sable rather than coding it themselves. We would definitly love to expand sable further, we ourselves have lots of future development ideas, tools and mechanics which we would love to see in future iterations of sable, but discussing what future development plans are past sables release , its just too far out to speculate  at this stage as there are so many factors outside of our control, such as how popular sable is, what do people like and dislike, what are the features the community most want to see etc. I’ll definitly check out siri shortcuts though on my phone as that’s not something ive played with before and I’d like to see how that works in more detail. As ever thanks to everyone for the support and enthusiasm towards the project. The Ebon Sky Studios Teamemail: i...@ebonskystudios.comFacebook: https://m.facebook.com/ebonskystudios/Twitter: @ebonskystudios

Re: How should mainstream developers make interfaces accessible?

I vote APIs, mainly because I feel they're easiest to use. I also feel that Microsoft should get creddit where credit is due. Plus, you think a developer is going to want to higher an entire voice actor? No. It's best to make it as simple as possible for them so isn't no intimidating.

Re: How should mainstream developers make interfaces accessible?

I do find it interesting that everyone so far has prioritised ease of navigation rather than voice recordings that feel part of the game world. Not because I don't get it, I totally understand the reasons for preferring synthesised. But because of those FREEQ players who preferred the immersion of the recorded voiceovers, in situated that the hadn't been anyone commenting or voting who has shared their views.

New rtr and soundrts server available

New rtr and soundrts server available

Greetings,I know this may seem a bit redundant given that there is another like this, but I was able to get something going for rtr and for soundrts servers. So far both seem to work quite well without any glitches. Should you want to connect to either, use 198.58.111.158 as the host name, and for rtr 6789 as the default port. As I said I know that there is another person that has a server quite like that, but its there if anyone would want it for an alternate choice. Hope you all enjoy and should you have any questions for me, please do not hesitate to ask. I also have a team talk server I have hosted for those that want to gather together to chill and for gaming purposes. Please send me a pm if you would want an account. Also if this is the wrong place to post this topic, I will gladly delete and repost elseware.Regards,Thomas

Re: Skype replacement suggestions

People have the right to use what they want to use, I personally think they're digging themselves into a worse position, but if they want to be die hard Skype 7 activists, let them, it'll work until Microsoft kills it on the API level. It is true though I think they have removed fork in skype 8. However, that wouldn't prevent them from being forked, it would just prevent them from forking someone else.

Re: Skype replacement suggestions

Never tried that messenger for desktop thing, but I use Miranda NG for Facebook messages. It supports sound, so the fact that it doesn't autoread messages isn't so bad.
