Re: Alter Aeon January 2020 Update

This means the dclient gives a ton of potential info at a glance. I've occasionally heard sighted players bitch that MushZ gives blind players an advantage. But see, here's the thing. For all its triggers and shortcuts and whatnot, we will never match the ability of the naked eye to parse a crapton of info in one glance. I can't parse weather, HP, terrain, quest status and group stats all at once. I am pretty quick, but I'm not -that quick. And to me, that's well and good. I'm just glad I don't hear people howling about MushZ too much anymore. But for everything MushZ nerfs (it's had a few), just bear that in mind. Playing in raw text would be brutal. Playing with sounds and a whole pile of easy-to-access triggers is definitely doable. I hope nothing else is done to further gimp MushZ.

Re: Discussion about movement in mainstream games

That's true about the shooting in swamp. I guess that's a way to give blind players one less thing to worry about. On the second map there is a rooftop you can take out zombies from, and of course you have to use stairs to get there. When I was sniping those things, I sorta figured the game was taking care of the vertical aiming for me, so maybe the stairs are kinda disguising the z after all, but I am inclined to think not. Maybe I just associate a game played from the first person perspective where up is forward with 3d things..

Well. For the bluetooth audio nvda addon, the official GitHub repository states (under the downloads heading)Current stable version (Python 3 only, requires NVDA 2019.3 or later)So I would say, that it already has been ported, the nvda addons for python 3 list are just a bit out of date. For the record, the GitHub repository can be found here

Hi.braille would be a secondary thing ffor me because I myself am not a really heavy braille user, and with regards to portability I wouldn't want to lug around a big braille display for me and a possible stand to put the Mac onto because otherwise you would have the braille display in front and operating the laptop would be quite the strain.I decided to possibly go rent a MacBook and see what comes of it, the offer with the Surface Book is still on the table, remember that this would be the best equipped 13 inch version of the device, so yeah, decision is hard there.Greetings Moritz.

@20 ah, ok. I see where you get the difference from in regards to fighting games... not the way I've seen them categorized, but I can definitely respect that understanding as well. There definitely are Fatal Fury games labelled as 3d, I just don't remember specifically which ones. In either case, what you said makes sense. Also true point about Shadow Line and the False Z axis. Never thought of it like that before. I think I'd still call swamp 2d though, going onto rooftops and whatnot isn't actually a vertical transition from what I remember, just entering a different map... but I haven't played it in ages. Also, you can only shoot on a horrizontal plain.Lastly, what you described about knowing how a game plays is definitely a helpful way to figure out whether a game has the potential to be playable. It's how I do it as well.

19 is right about tekken and some mk titles being 3d actually. Heck even doa which I mentioned earlier is. Still wouldn't call fatal fury or bleach ds 3d though, and the reason is because they are 2d games that vive you the delusion of 3d by allowing you to step into another plain in the background, whereas the other games I mentioned above do have 3d graphics in addition to allowing to move along the y, thus giving it that extra 0.5d to become fully 3d.  If a 3d fighter has 360 movement, then it usually said to be having such in a review.Speaking of which, that's usually how I determine whether a game is playable or not. Still, reviews would imply that a game like Touhou Kobuto V: Burst Battle is playable, but my brother thinks that the bullet hell elements would make it difficult. On the other hand, you have a fighting game like Destrega that have full 3d movement plus long ranged combat, and I didn't buy it because the reviews mentioned that, but having played it now, it's not too hard at all. The bottom line is to get opinions from several sources before diving in,  or actually trying a game first hand. What my brother does these days is compare the movement of the inquired game to that of which I'm already familiar with, and it helps, having played tons of them now. Even reviews and descriptions do this, and you can use that to help you decide whether a game is playable. In this sence, 9 is correct about the movement being more important than the perspective. You just need a point of reference to be able to compare it to something you already know. Also, I definitely think swamp is played from the first person 3d perspective. It might seem like it doesn't have a z, but you do travel onto rooftops and underground in addition to having 3d tanklike controls, whereas a game like shadow line, though having a false z with all those cliffs remains 2d because of its graphics and top-down nature.

Hi Moritz,Yeah, you can set up the Discoverer to do sector mapping on its own. I'm currently flying towards Teladi space, where I hope to get Explorer COmmand software, which will let me do that. THere's a script called Galaxy Explorer, which is what I plan to use for that process.I've also been communicating with most stations and ships along the way. THere's no real way to find random missions or the like otherwise, and fortunately it's easy to tell whether you've lande on a mission or oppertunity or not, because they always have an extra menu option, and prompt you with mission details beforehand.

Hi.Ok, trade log hotkey is set up and works quite fine as I can see it now.So, off to some trading and getting my rust bucket upgraded. What are you actually doing with your discoverer? What I would love to do is either fly around with the thing manually and map sectors and the like while my fraighter trades automatically with me telling it what to trade because I yet haven't the trade software MK iii.The other thing would be to fly the fraighter on my own and let the discoverer map sectors on it's own.Is that somehow possible?Greetings Moritz.

Re: Discussion about movement in mainstream games

Just a quick note here... 2.5 d, at least in fighting games, is usually refered to in terms of the way the graphics are done. Street Fighter IV is considered 2.5D. If a game allows you to sidestep or similar like in Tekken or in some of the Fatal Fury / Mortal Kombat games, they have been refered to always and still are refered to as 3d fighters.@9 thanks for clarifying so many points! There definitely were a lot of terms I wasn't clear on, and a few misunderstandings that I wasn't confident in my knowledge of to bring up. @SLJ, if you want to look for games based on their movement systems, you will have a tough time of it... there's generally no way to find out this info unless the developer specifies it, or unless you find it in a review or game description. The best approach, of course, is to ask someone on a forum, but even then you will get more negativity for asking something so seemingly obvious from people who don't understand the needs of a blind gamer. But I agree with @13 that developers may want to consider describing basic movement though again, as stated before, listing controls or the type of camera doesn't really have an impact on how playable a game will be since most of those things are about visual perspective.

Re: Pet peeves from other blind people?

Agreed with 24 and 25.  Once again as I said in 21 it really is an issue of balance on both sides.  It's hard, particularly when faced with incidents as described in 24 and 25 not to lash out.  I have had the overall wonderful fortune I've had and recognize that many people have not.  The other extreme side of things is that sighted people look up to you like you're some sort of freakish god who can do nothing wrong, so that when you do do something wrong you're an absolute screwup and you just let everyone down who ever believed in you and rot and burn and go to hell.So one side allows you to self-justify a titanic mountain of egocentrism while the other extreme degrades you until you feel like you're not even human.  The sad thing we must remember even if they don't?  Sighted people are just as human, just as prone to mistakes, and when you're not the minority it's that much easier to get away with it because there's no one to speak for you accept yourself.  The problem is knowing how and when to speak.  No... I don't have the answers... I'm taking stabs in the dark just as much as any other blind person here; no puns intended.

As far as I know, the update I think you are talking about is verry important in the history of NVDA because something substantial, or not, will change, there are going to switch to python 3. If you want to know more info about that, please reply,  this has more to do with programming than with actual user experience. As for add-ons, it's the responsability of the add-on developer comunity to update their add-ons, so most of them, excluding the abandoned ones, should be upgraded by the time the new NVDA is released.

Re: Pet peeves from other blind people?

I'm extremely sorry you have to go through that. not knowing what country you're from, or the cultural beliefs you, and these frankly ignorant people possess, I can't do much else except to say that it has to be tough, degrading, and a whole host of other things. Hopefully, if you're as isolated as you say, though, being on this forum and participating in the discussions here has showed you that there are plenty of blind people who don't have to deal with such circumstances and attitudes, and hopefully that will give you the strength to break away from whatever toxic assholes are feeding you all this crap. I've had a lot of negative experiences myself, including the thing you mentioned about people randomly putting their hands on you, and it infuriates me more than just about every other stereotypically bad interaction I've ever had with sighted people. Since breaking someone's wrist when they touch you for no reason is socially unacceptable, I usually just grit my teeth and take it, all the while feeling unclean and violated. Yet, if you stand up for yourself and say, "hey, I'm a human being too, and guess what that means? I have personal space, just like you!" then, you would be the bad guy, the blinktard or whatever the in word is these days that makes all blind people look bad. Yes, there is a lot of unnecessary drama that some blind people partake in, making a huge deal about how mistreated they are by sighted people when they make no effort themselves, and, in fact, are the inflammatory ones, but unfortunately, that invalidates perfectly legitimate experiences that some of us have as well. I mean, sure, if you enjoy being handled by strangers, and being prayed for gives you the warm and fuzzies, you do you. I have no quarrel with that. That doesn't, or shouldn't, mean that I have to take it just because it's someone's idea of a good deed, though. Besides, with #metoo being so prevalent, and the ever-increasing emphasis on enthusiastic consent, which makes a lot of people believe that they're going to be accused of rape at the drop of a hat if both parties don't make their intent crystal clear before every single physical interaction they partake in (yes, even in long-term relationships where things are established, for lack of a better term, according to proponents of this nonsense) I can't help but wonder, and feel quite bitter about if I'm honest, just why this doesn't apply just because I have a disability. Of course, we're not talking about sexual touching here, but the concept is the same. If it's cool to force people to listen by any means necessary to the fact that you want to be respected, why can't we? We're just supposed to be docile, and oh, isn't it just so nice that someone took time out of their day to bless us? No, it's not nice, get out of here with that bullshit, at least, if you're anything like me and have serious issues with being touched by random people.

Re: why is topic necromancy forbidn?

I'm with turtlepower17 on this one. Topic necromancy in of itself is not an issue, it's the way people use it that could present problems. Luckily, it seems like the mods take intent into account when making decisions regarding topic necromancy. However, I think people are afraid to do so because the guidelines are not very clear on what kind of necromancy is legitimate or not in my personal opinion, hence people making 20-30 topics about the same thing over and over. Forum Guidelines]6. Please do not revive very old topics without a good reason. If the last post in a thread is from a long time ago and the topic has clearly been quiet, please post elsewhere or create your own topic. Some threads go silent for awhile, only to legitimately flare up again later. This is fine, so long as it's not being done repeatedly and with no good reason. Excessive "thread necromancy" - raising threads from the dead - may be grounds for a caution or a warning if it continues unchecked. As said, threads go silent only to legitimately flair up again. How do you guys determine what is legit and what isn't? I personally think it would be good to highlight some examples in the guidelines so this issue isn't such a grey area.

Walker and Darrin,It is probably easier to buy the game and refund it than to try a demo, if only because I have no idea what the demo lets you do, and it almost certainly won't let you run the accessibility scripts we need to use. Regarding remote trading, I will continue to investigate ways to make satellites useful for us, though it's worth pointing out that apparently sector and universe traders don't actually need them, so they're less useful than they might otherwise be. I will continue to look into other areas that might benefit from scripting as well, but my goal is to modify the game as little as possible at the moment.

I mean, sure, if you enjoy being handled by strangers, and being prayed for gives you the warm and fuzzies, go for it! I have no quarrel with that. Re: why is topic necromancy forbidn?

My issue with disallowing it, or creating a culture where you feel like you're going to get a slap on the wrist if you do, is all the needless smaller subthreads popping out of what should be a cut and dried issue. Take, for example, the spate of accessibility of antivirus solutions threads that were a thing a couple of months ago. It took a lot of self-control to not tell people to post in the 20 already existing, and helpful, topics about the same thing. Maybe it's just me, but that drives me nuts, and is far more of a problem than any thread necromancy would ever be in my eyes. There's also the issue that, historically, threads are only closed on this particular forum when they're causing trouble. Start closing old threads now, even if you do it quietly, and a certain subset of members will be screaming about why it's happening, and blowing it way out of proportion. I don't like the idea of closing old topics myself, since they're not causing any harm, and would be needless busywork for the mods anyway.

Re: Return to the world of Manamon in Manamon 2: The Eternal Requiem

Hi guys.So I need some urgent help here. I think I did something that may have broken my game. I am pasting an email I sent to aaron where I have documented the issue.hi.I am having a serious problem in eternity studios. I found the lazerprotector and got through all the lazers. Then, I saved my game andcontinued. However, I do not believe I saved and as a result, Istepped in to a teleporter. so I had to do the puzzle again. Upondoing so, I noticed that the lazer protector did not come back, evenafter leaving the entire and coming back. unless I am doing somethingwrong, i'm pretty sure there is no laser protector. I seem to remembersaving after the puzzle was complete, but I could be wrong. If I didsave, there appears to be nowhere else to go. Could you take a look atmy save and make sure it isn't bugged? If not, could you give me somepointers on where to go? I have attached my save here.Thanks.So long story short, I saved my game after getting the lazer protector, but later had to reload. When I did, I discovered I was next to the convater belt with all the lazers again. Upon going back and trying to get the protector, I discovered, mch to my surprise, that there was no protector there. So I left the entire area and came all the way back to the third floor and tried to look for the protector then, but no go. There is no way i can get passed this point without it. I am putting a link to my save file in dropbox. if someone wouldn't mind taking a look at it and seeing what is going on, that would be great. I am about 90 percent certain that I am not doing anything wrong, and that there is simply no protector there for some reason. Here is the link:https://www.dropbox.com/s/z79xn5eft2uby15/data.dat?dl=1

Honestly, I am slowly moving away from the mac. Mainly, due to the Terreble braille support. My display disconnects quite often, and when editing a text document in apps like Byword, the braille cursur disappears. Also, when I am reading my email, braille lags behind speech. I also have issues when navigating on the web. Sites like chewey.com and Amazon cause Voiceover to lock up. I got a Windows computer for Christmas, and the experience is so much better. I am able to edit this very post and my display has not disconnected once. If you don't use braille with your computer, you might be okay with a Mac, but I would go with Windows if I were you.

Hi. I am using mac for a few mounths and I find it easy to use and stable. We can't compare pages with word, because the pages is much better if we talk about accesibility. The format options are easy to find, easy to handle and in some situations, you can use shortcuts like in word. If you search for them on the Apple's support, you will find most things. I am sure that noone from there will edit pictures or inserting them. Text edit is like notepad so There is a good alternative. If we discuss from a gamer perspective, mac is not for you.

@16 old or not, it's still relevant today as long as modern games make use of the technique. It's especially true today, given the resurgence of retro game, and their retro-inspired counterparts.I agree that devs need to do a better jobs at describing their gameplay in terms of control instead of just leaving that up to the screenshots and trailers. I have read dozens upon dozens of psn descriptions for games that do a great job at story telling, but leave me scratching my head because I know almost nothing of what gameplay for said game is like.

Again, let's keep this topic about Planet Saga. If we want to discuss the merits of Chinese vs. Japanese vs. Whatever else games, let's create a topic in general discussion. It'd be an interesting discussion...

Re: Setting up TeamTalk on IOS

That on/off sound you might be hearing might have to do with sound activation. In the TeamTalk interface on PC, tab to the slider that says "voice activation", and set it to zero. That might do the trick.

Re: Setting up TeamTalk on IOS

Thank you, that helped a lot! I was able to get onto my girlfriend's servor with no problem, at least with my phone. I'm still trying to work out the kinks with the computer version. I find it weird.I downloaded and installed the classic varient with version 5.4, but I've noticed some weird things about it.For example, while I'm in a channel on a servor, I'll keep hearing this sound sound on and off occasionally. Also, I can't find a list of keyboard shortcuts for this program whatsoever. Does anyone have a list of them? For one thing, I can not find the trasmission button of all things. Thanks!Rob

Re: Pet peeves from other blind people?

I agree with all of your comments. Being the only blind person in my family, dayly life has been very hectic for me. My mom always told me that I have been a burden on her and every one I have been with. I have also been told that blind people are lyabilities and not assets like sited people. Blind people can’t hold small children or babies because they will drop them and bring them harm. How can I drop a baby when I’m sitting down in a chair and I can’t help with careing for them, because of some dumb people think that I will be some kind of petafile getting my kicks uff of small helpless children.”really” What am I? “Some monster?” I’m a normal human being who is a girl, who loves children, anamals and music just like everyone else. So why is that so strange for sited people. Has anyone ever been singled out in their place of worship  where people call themselves laying there hands on you, claiming that they can hill you and the reason for your blindness is that you don’t believe and don’t want to see. Or how about when people come up to you and ask you can they pray for you and the middle of the store. Making it a big deal and making you feel worse than you already feel. Making you a big issue where everyone is staring and making fun of you. I always feel cursed and not blessed. I’m always told that I don’t do anything right and I’m should go sit down somewhere and stay out of the way! Who’s parents told them that they wished they were never born and they wished they would have had a normal perfect child. Who’s family is “in bearish and ashamed of them” mine is. People don’t know what blindness! How we are exsclooded and icealated from everyone else is not blind.  I’m not excepted in susyaty since I’m a blind freak! No one will eat my baked goods, they feel that blind people shouldn’t bake and it is not sanitary. I feel when I’m baking and my family and other people have told me that it was the most descusting thing they have ever heard of! Rejected by people and excepted by dogs and animals.

Re: Need Help with Manamon 2 (Spoilers)

It's not super difficult. Do not double back for speed boosters that you miss. Your goal is to run north as fast as you can. Try and weave through so that you hit speed boosters, but as I say, don't waste time if you miss a few. You won't get them all. I believe on my first runthrough of this area ever, I got the first three or four speed boosts, then just held the up arrow and got through.

Ok I've figured that out but now I'm at f5 of the studio and uh... Not sure what to do there. Do I run for my life or do I need to hit all the alarms? Beause if it's the latter I'm not sure how I'll have the time.

Re: Manamon 2: Impressions Thread

In manamon 2, the manapedia absolutely does say where stuff can be found, assuming you've been there. Some manamon are not available in the wild, in which case it'll say "location unavailable" or some such. And some manamon you find will show up in places you haven't been, at which point it'll say something like "two places you haven't visited". This is handy if you forget where some things are, like I do sometimes.

Re: Discussion about movement in mainstream games

@10 that's a really old definition, it isn't used any more@13 happy to help! You could keep an eye out for games referred to as top-down. But it's a tough gig, it can be hard to get that kind of info.Really for accessibly reasons in general outside of blindness developers need to be publishing information about what their controls are.. but that doesn't tell you anything about the camera. The controls for first person and third person can be exactly the same (left stick move, right stick camera) but that doesn't tell you anything at all about the direction you move in relative to the camera.
