Many Microsoft voices, other than the simplified Chinese voice in XP and Lily in Windows 7, only supported English. Narrator only supported English.The unreleased Truetalk voices only supported English. And were quite obvioulsy designed for older soundcards and small footprint, owing to their lower bitrate. The min variants are their equivalent of compact voices, although there's only an _expression_ change. Simon could have actually been quite nice as a daily driver were it part of the public XP builds. We know Microsoft aborted their singing synth efforts, but I do wonder what landed this more or less finished synth on the chopping block.

Thing about entombed is, it was huge back in its time, and it did lots of things no other audio game did. Sure, a lot of what you did was the same. That doesn't change the fact that Entombed was the first audio dungeon crawler, and iirc, the first audio rpg. Yes, there were browser rpgs and muds before that which had levels, classes etc, but Entombed first introduced these concepts into an audio game. As for bk3, sometimes I wish there was a way to skip some unnecessary stages if you play through higher difficulty runs. Things like 5-1, 6-1 to 6-3, 9-1 to 9-3, etc. These are stages that, while important from a story perspective and nice to play through once or twice, don't give you any xp what soever and don't help you in any way.

Agreeing wholeheartedly with Canlorn here.Moving forward in accessibility is good, but the pace and the actual changes may not be enough. Good does not equal good enough. This is a start. They need to keep going - and indeed, should use this as a springboard to work even harder - to get shit done.I'm a big fan of perspective. Rather than going all fanboy-squee about the newest dribble of accessibility, I'd prefer to take a broader look. @Graeme:That is about the game logic I'd try out first, yes. But logic is only a very small part of programming and I don't know a single thing about compiling code, building menus, implementing keyboard support, using more advanced sound handling...Also this would obviously be only the first try. You'd have to test a lot and adjust the code regarding to the feedback. The worst mistake a dev can make is to design a mechanic through the code. You always with no exception need to design the mechanic and try to emulate it as closely as possible with your code instead.I'm also of course not sure if it would actually be fun. My inspiration was the game Octodad, where you play an octopus with godawful controls trying to live a normal fathers life without getting caught as the imposter you are. That thing was goofy as hell and super hard but somehow really fun.But the biggest issue I am struggling with regarding audio game design is the output problem. Video is just so intensely better suited to convey a lot of subtle information simultaneously.So how do you design interesting controls with the limiting "display" options you have with sound only? I tried thinking of something and settled with the spider simulator. Maybe it would be fun, definitely not at the first draft. But at least it would be something new.

One thing I was going to mention is that I've read a book called The Kid Who Ran for and Became President, by Dan Gutman.I don't know if this is considered a spoiler, since I am going to do my best to remain vague, but I learnt that if you make one move to help half of America's population, the other half will hate you, and vice versa. So, if you tried to help the poor, the rich will hate you. If you tried to enforce environmental cleanup, business owners will hate you. So, where's that balance? Will we ever find it?

I checked on applevis and I can say ios has problem, too. what's the point being that far forward but has a lot of issues? honestly speaking, the most stable IOS that I ever touch is 10, above that, it feels like apple fixing it's accessibility issue while creating a new issue.

Depends on how deeply you look, and on the game specifically. Are all the skyracer missions the same in BK 3? Basically. Yes, they get repetitive in that way, but they're able to be played differently, and in some ways, it's as repetitive as you make it. But that's also the genre of the game.. many people call streets of rage and final fight repetitive games because you just run through stages and beat up goons over and over, sometimes with a boss or bonus game. But people consider those to be some of the best games of all time because even if the mission is repetitive, the gameplay is fun enough to make it worth playing again. I don't know about anyone else, but I like skyracer missions as repetitive as they are, because there's nothing like them right now in other games. But there are some other games that are definitely more repetitive than the ones you listed, and I do think part of it is this particular community and the lack of creativity on the part of some of the people making games right now.

Hi again.So about a month ago I downloaded VipMud to test it, and expressed my desire to buy it. I was told by multiple people that it wouldn't be worth it to me, but I decided I would be the judge of that. I tested it over the following thirty days, and in the process fell very hard for Cosmic Rage. It's the only MUD I've played on there that has a truly fantastic soundpack. All the other games I tried either had no pack or didn't have a VIPMud pack. The Cosmic Rage Mush pack is woefully inadequate compared to the constantly-being-updated VIPMud version, so CR has been my most-played game, with Procedural Realms (a game with no soundpack as yet) second to that.All in all, I loved my experience with VipMud, right up until the thirty-day trial ended and I had to contend with the demo. Yes, you get two hours at a time. However, a lot of activities in CR are absorbing and having to put oneself to sleep in the middle of them to restart the client is extremely annoying. The pressure of being on a timer doesn't make the experience as fun as it might otherwise have been. And I did like the client and wanted to register it. So I tried.And to my consternation, despite the page talking about a "Pay Here" button, there was no such button on the page. Neither was there a "Pay Here" link in the email sent to me by the site's automated service.I sent them an email telling them about this, and only got another automated email in response. I've heard nothing from them since.Today, I tried again, this time with Mum assisting me, but she could see no button either. We've looked through all the links available to us and no sign.I have been told, by persons I will not name because they only wished to help and I'm not acting on the information anyway, that there is a somewhat dubious workaround that bypasses the demo and allows you to play normally despite not registering. I do not wish to do this, I have the money to pay for the registration.Since the devs are not responding to me, I have little choice but to turn to you, my fellow audiogamers, and ask for your insight, if insight you have, on how to pay for VipMud's registration. I really hope someone knows what I am missing here.

Our Halloween event may be over, but our next event is right around the corner!  We'll be having this event during the week of Thanksgiving, lasting from Wednesday, November 25th until the evening of Monday, November 30th.Throughout November, we'll be tying the loose ends of the Halloween event and preparing for the Winter Solstice event in December.  We have a couple of new skills that will be implemented soon.  We'll also be fine-tuning scribe jobs and creating a new area west of Ralnoth called The Hinterlands.Building continues in several solo and group 4 areas for the Nightmare Plane, and also we are working on high level auto-generated content called the Fields of Fonts.  These will likely be released in conjunction with the raising of the level cap to 39 next January.For more information, please refer to our latest Youtube update here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1qcUaypJJE

I too use braille... quite a lot actually. At work I use my braille note touch plus as an always-on notepad and for meeting notes where I don't want to carry a laptop. Braille is far better than speech for doing things like debugging code, and I also enjoy reading braille books and being able to listen to music at the same time... Speech can't offer you that.

Swamp Gamepad Support

Hi there, I know that you can use the mouse to play Swamp and I love using it to do that. however, I would lie to see about how I could potentially use my xbox controller?  Does anyone know how this could be done? I tried looking for a program made by CAE Jones, but I couldn't find it and I am sure it is probably outdated by now due to the way Swamp has  changed, but  just a thought I wanted to put out there.Thanks!

@298Basically exceptions get a bad reputation for 2 reasons: MSVC 32-bit punished you for simply having try blocks in your code (but *not* x64), whether or not exceptions were thrown, and throwing an exception is expensive because of stack unwinding.  But expensive is relative and in this context it's nothing as compared to the actual disk I/O, and the try/catch block overhead doesn't come up unless you're on 32-bit MSVC and entering lots of try blocks  (it's not a constant cost, it's a cost at every transition).  All the game devs went overboard on it and after the nth story of "huh, if I don't throw thousands of exceptions per frame, this works much faster" in the 2000s, well, there you go, obviously it's not the programmer.You'll only find try blocks in a few places, possibly with a  few exceptions: at the uppermost stack frames of threads, hidden behind the SYZ_PROLOGUE/SYZ_EPILOGUE macros for the C API, and in a couple other places that want to just swallow all errors.  I think that the file stream stuff is the only place that uses them for something that's not hard failure.I won't say it doesn't matter, but I will say that I watch debug builds running the rather expensive reverb algorithm and/or tens of sources run at like 2% or 3% CPU.  I mean yes, I'm on a tower.  But it's still really fast.  If you can find a tight loop somewhere that's like "I know, how about an exception on every iteration" this might be worth figuring out, otherwise shrug.  Technically you could make a bunch of C API calls that are specifically designed to use the overhead in Invokable for marshalling an exception between threads to cause the audio thread to basically just pin a core, but you'd have to try pretty hard for it.

Ehh, I can't give a super well-rounded perspective, but from what I hear anyway, repetitiveness is just one of those things in a game you like or you don't. Mainstream games have a lot of it too... there are grind heavy mainstream rpgs out there. Afaik, older rpgs especially require a ton of patience to tolerate the insane enemy encounter rate, and there are likely many sections of many well-respected rpgs which severely test your patience. Put simply those repetitive parts of BK3, as annoying as they are, shouldn't be too much of a surprise given the genre; similar mainstream games get grind heavy, and undoubtedly some are even worse.That said, maybe repetitiveness is more endemic to audio games, maybe it's more prevalent given our smaller library and generally less complex games. But there's plenty of repetition in mainstream games too so far as I've seen (I dont' play any mainstream games personally, only watched Youtube reviews).

The annoying gameplay repetitiveness in audio games!

Hi all,Some while ago I was talking with one of my friends about the repetitiveness of the gameplay in many of our games. And Although the examples that I'll be giving out are for games that are considered advanced and successful, and I have no doubt about that myself as a player who enjoyed (and keeps enjoying) them a lot, but they contain a lot of repetitiveness as you progress through playing in them. Is this common only here or is it also common within mainstream games? What's the reason for the existence of such a repetitiveness? Is it the laziness of those developers to fill in those gaps that they created to extend the gameplay length? This conversation started when I was complaining about a repetitiveness of a game I bought recently (Dreamy Train), despite the hours I spend trying to accomplish various missions and finish off the provided courses, gameplay is still repetitive. Elementary courses: 110-150 kph speed trains, you departure, do some controls and driving management then stop at arrival destination. Intermediate courses: 110-150 kph speed trains, you departure, do some controls and driving management then stop at arrival destination. High courses where I'm currently at: still even 100-150 kph speed trains, you departure, do some controls and driving management then stop at arrival destination. So what then? Very few 2 or 3 new items, the availability of those mentioned trains and courses on free run. I was expecting to unlock new trains that do have more speeds (over 150 or 200 and so on), more surprising functions and features for those unlocked trains as a more advanced train driver, even more challenges which makes courses truly higher and more advanced than each other, yet the only thing I found different in trains is their sounds. Unless if I'll actually be unlocking new exciting stuff as I advance even more than that, which also won't get the point off of my criticism, because that didn't prevent the game from being boring and repetitive at start which spells out an unsatisfying gameplay experience. So what do you think is the reason?Another examples of games that are great in gameplay and general concept but have some repetitiveness are: A Western Drama,: combat and chasing and whatnot are utterly the same from start to end, what differ is the scenario. Entombed: you do the same thing from floor 1 to 25, and without the tavern's few quests and the very few special floors and bosses, there literally won't be some spike to your gameplay excitement. BK3: oh god, I won't be able to describe how bloody annoying are stage 15 and 16, and the repetitive Sky Racer missions.To conclude my rants, I'd just like to know, what's the purpose behind this? Wouldn't this lead the player to feeling bored and annoyed and in worst cases, to quit playing said game entirely while there would have been coming surprises the player likes?

To find out where the player names are shown and how to enable them.We need that info to set up Lion correctly, you basically crop the screen from up, down, left or right to the point you need. I need to make in text comments for my assignment and I thought it would be easy! Everything worked in google docs before but now I am stuck unable to view the menus or tab around in them. I press insert with space in NVDA to change the modes and read the document, then I press escape in order to get out of that. I only here blank blank blank when pressing my arrow keys and can not move around in the menus. They do not even seem to be their. How do I fix this? I need to turn this assignment in tomorrow and the in text comments were the last part. Thank you all so much for any help I very much appreciate it.

A couple of things, in case anybody's interested.1. I was hitting the wrong button for the first tutorial in Sequence Storm. I was hitting the left trigger instead of the left shoulder button. I got through the second tutorial mission, so we'll see how the next one goes. Also, if you set up the vibrations, it vibrates in time with the song, at least it did with the second mission. So you can figure out rhythm starts, hold, stuff like that, by counting how many vibrations each part of the sequence takes.2. Ninja Storm whatever. Yeah, probably not for me. I checked out somebody playing it on Youtube, and it's just a bunch of incomprehensible fighting noises. Like I said, I might get into these more mainstream games at some point, but my big problem is that I've never found anybody explaining one. So I don't think I'd have any idea what was going on, if I installed one and tried to play it.That having been said, if there's a game that has something like menu narration, and you can figure out the story and/or audio and play it, I'd love to hear about it, with a bit of an explanation.

@48, There is no excuse to not use force SSL. There is no excuse to not use HSTS. We're not smashing your ideas because of your past. We're telling you that the way your going about this is completely and utterly wrong. If you go to a professional business forum with this you'd get even harsher responses. It took you almost a week to get SSL going. If I set up a website it can take me about three days to make that server a B grade on SSLlabs because I follow common, modern and expected security practices. Might take a bit longer for HSTS, but I do use it. When you set up a modern website, you should encrypt all data to and from the server, irrespective of what it is. The computational cost for encrypting data and using TLS is minimal these days. (I can't get an A grade on SSLlabs I don't use public key pinning in particular, which I imagine lowers it a bit.)

0.7.5 is up with reverb.  It's better than Libaudioverse's reverb.  I unfortunately don't have the bandwidth to go through the rather tedious process of setting up for demos right now, but the docs are here and it should be easy for anyone already using Synthizer to drop it in, play with it, and get something going.  The repository has an example in bindings/python/examples.  Expect another round of improvements to it at some point, namely for panning and spatialized early reflections, but it's good enough for what most people are going to be doing for the foreseeable future.  I do ask, though, that you be patient with it.  You might have to fiddle around with settings to get something that sounds nice, depending on your use case.  But if you do, keep them around: I want to add presets, provided that I can get enough named presets to make that worth doing.There might be other bugs in this release.  A critical issue related to our bitset not working got fixed, but the upshot is that there's now code paths that should have been exercised for the last 6 months that weren't exercised for the past 6 months getting exercised now.  I promise to deal with the carnage as promptly as I'm able if you open issues against the repository.Due to demand, the next project is cross-platform and cross-compiler support.  I would have thought that people would be more like "please can you improve the HRTF" but every time I get asked for something it's "Does it work on Mac and Linux", so obviously the users have spoken.  I was hoping to drop that this week being as this was my week off, but it is now Friday so, well, probably not.Have fun.

Mightauras is amazing defensively, even if its HP isn't stellar. Great attack and defense, and it's not horrendously slow. Also gets a lot of coverage. Steel Stomp would fit this thing extremely well.Sylphantom gets fire coverage, yes, but only Broil and Ash Rain. If you want fire, Lantlare is far better. But Sylphantom is good.I always thought Rumblebee was conflicted on whether it wanted to be physical or special. It's one of the ones I haven't tried yet though, since that double weakness to air is just ouch.I don't know what my next team will be, or when I'll even play again. Team sound is currently about to fight Ogma in his base, and I had to breed three of my own so they're a bit behind in levels. Skeletone with good stats is actually pretty decent. Rythmond is extremely boring one-trick-pony territory. Symphonid remains awesome, though I'm really, really awaiting Plague on it. Shadina wants to be good, but it isn't yet. Chimerus (well, Humbabang right now) is surprisingly quick; I can't remember the stat boosts it gets when it evolves, and can't remember its entire moveset, but I feel like it gets Aura Impact and Sonic Force, making you use both attack stats. Also, special defense is a shae low.Owlex is awful. I'm glad it gets Sonic Force early.

Hi, so first thing I will say is that it was a bit harsh to say that the code was a mess, it is not actually that bad once I got a grasp on what is going on.I tested my theory about filtering the class instances for the outputs array in auto down to just those screen readers that are available on that platform, you were right Camlorn, it had no effect on the delay. I did figure out the issue though.It seems that the is_active method for VoiceOver is causing the delay. I tested this just by creating an instance of VoiceOver in my little pyglet example, called v.is_active() followed by the playing of a sound, and I am definitely getting the delay that is observed when using the Auto class. This is the code I used to test with:import pygletfrom pyglet.window import Window, keyfrom accessible_output2.outputs.voiceover import VoiceOverwindow = Window(caption="Test")v = VoiceOver()sound = pyglet.media.load("d4.wav")@window.eventdef on_key_press(symbol, modifiers):    if symbol == key.V:        v.is_active()        sound.play()pyglet.app.run()It seems that there is some long process that is occurring when checking if VoiceOver is running using the apple script. Well this got me curious, can't wait for my phone to get an android 11 custom rom so I can try all of this, but noone makes roms for a50 that are actually useful, or have TTS built in, even if they have gapps, but that is for another topic.And I agree with Haily here, we could live without the rotor and other stuff, we always had 3rd party sollutions if we actually needed them, I agree, on ios you have a lot of stuff that helps you, but after messing arround with an android for a longer time and getting it exactly how you want, you feel like ios just restricts you.I can say this since I have both a Samsung and an iPhone right now, both on the latest, or almost latest version of their software.Ios takes and guides you, but if you like to tinker with your stuff, you will most likely find a work arround for anything that is in ios and will do it better in some cases.For example I use bsi on my iPhone xr and SBK on my a50 and I can say that even that I like the keyboard on ios, it is very basic and honnestly, it isn't as fast as SBK, a keyboard that wasn't developed in years.I know, yeah, it is 3rd party, but a lot of times I replace the stuff on ios too, music with Spotify, Safary with Brave and what ever else I can actually replace.

I'm not on about Orca, I know that works (and putting it in startup apps makes it autostart too), I'm on about that I had to do a bit of exporting variaables shenanigans fuckery to make Chromium based things work on a minimal install here.

I played this game long time aggo. I consider now that is been so amazing if any or developer make a any dlc with new maps, new quests, armour weapons etc etc. But i do not know much about programing, is it possible to any make dlc of this kind. it takes awhile for me to gather the info, write it down, combine the number of products, pay for it, receive the keys, hand them out, and update people's orders when they received and activated it. Then I repeat that cycle again for the whole month. I want to make sure that everything is correct, so I organize my documents very well, but it takes more time to be organized.I'm working slower than normal on this batch, I apologize. I send updates here and to everyone's communication when something happens, so chances are if you haven't heard from me yet, I am going around collecting orders and you will hear from me when I am assembling the list or paying.

Wow, I have the Xenyx1622FX, and I hear a buh-chick, buh-chick, buh-chick come through the phone connector when I plug in my Audiotechnica Broadcast stereo headset! I also heard this humming sound at around 200 Hz.I'm having lots of problems getting my signals to go the way I want them to, so I am thinking of swapping it out for a different mixer.
