To be honest, I'm kind of glad that you (unintentionally) participated in that experiment in the end. Hopefully, everyone learned something from it. As for your apology, I agree with all the great posts above. It's OK. You're only human, as are we all. A notice would have been good, sure, but given your state at the time I can see why you wouldn't send it; perhaps from denial, convincing yourself that it's just a small thing and you'll be fine tomorrow, or perhaps because of a simple lack of spoons (mental energy).I hope the pills help and you'll be back on your feet soon, at least physically. You have Control/Shift/AltKey, which correspond to both left and right keys, but if you will try to use LControlKey, for example, you will never catch it by this event. So if you want to actually distinguish left and right modifier keys, you will need to implement your own key press detecting thingy. I was feeling very, very small when I wrote that poem, one tiny speck of dust in a monumental machine whose only toil was to grind us down and spit out blood when it was done. Re: Let's make an audio first person shooter in _javascript_ together! @13 I think the major issue why this hasn't turned into a finished project, has actually been addressed in one of camlorn's earlier comments. the sad truth is is that anyone who becomes a skilled enough dev to actually work onsomething like this has companies offering him a lot of money to work for them instead and it becomes really hard to justify to oneself and one's family why they are spending hours upon hours working on something that is guaranteed to suck up more money than it produces, when they could be earning really good money and providing for themself and their loved ones. I mean explain to little Timmy that he won't go to university because mommy/daddy had to develop a sick audiogame instead of earn money.and I don't even mean that in order to work on this, you have to be a leet hacker and that's why you'd have companies clambering to hire you once you are at the level to develop an online audio FPS. just a junior entry-level developer you can expect 20$/hour in most western countries and it goes up pretty quickly with experience and skill. Electric is also very expensive for heating compared to gas. In Turkey, before natural gas became common, you did use the silinders for gas, but those were like 15 litres so it takes a month to use up 15 litres of propane on the stove. And some states are apparently blocking gas because of electric apparently being clean. But that just sounds like bullshit. Electric only is as clean as the energy source producing it, and right now the majority of electricity is produced via coal and gas. Re: Stories in video games I have a really huge soft spot for Final Fantasy X. I've seen better characters and twists, better evolution, better overall plot, better scriptwriting. I suspect FFX has nostalgia going for it, as it's one of the last games my brother and I enjoyed before he died. Just thinking about that is making me choke up a bit, which it doesn't usually. Questions about C# This isn't the type of post that I normally make, but I'm getting started with c# and wanted to ask if anyone had any recommendations for libraries to use for AudioGames? Specifically I'm looking for a way to create a window where I can monitor keyboard input. I would appreciate any feedback, as I haven't dabbled much with the language before. On the other hand my dad was arrested for dragging me across the house and insert typical divorce stories and $1 was more money than I could have dreamed of having at your age, if I remember how old that is correctly. If we start family story time, half this site is going to have something that's roughly on where yours is. If nothing else you're not nearly so alone as you think you are. I don't talk about mine only because I know that everyone else on any thread in which I did so would just have an equally bad story or two. This idea that big happy families exist and are the normal thing is a myth. No, the norm is fucked up families that don't like each other very much.Remote/telephone/etc mental health stuff isn't just a thing, right now it's the biggest thing. You can probably find something along those lines if you call around. But frankly in your case it's time for the big guns and if I were you I'd be finding my nearest psychiatrist and being like "look, I need to be functional, I'm not functional right now, I don't care about the side effects, if I am functional I will be doing these 5 things to make my life better" or something like that. Also, for what it's worth your primary care may be willing to prescribe something.I have briefly alluded to my health stuff in the past but I used to spend anywhere from 4 to 8 hours a day in pain like you wouldn't believe. I'm now a successful programmer in Seattle. It took 6 or 7 years to get to the programmer part, and a couple years after that to get to the Seattle part, but if I ever go 6 months between jobs in future it'll probably because I chose to do so. You've figured out half the trying thing, namely that trying sucks. But the other half of the trying thing is that once you've succeeded the first time, you're done. By the second time people are just like "yep he's got references" or whatever and away you go. Not literally, but it sure isn't years between jobs.What you want to do isn't unreasonable, but even modest adult goals for sighted people take years. Adjust your timeline and your expectation and you'll be much happier.You can take all the parents etc. off your bank account with a simple trip to the bank and they won't know you've done it until they try to withdraw.One of the possible paths to happiness, or at least more happiness than otherwise is this: realize that looking up to people isn't what you should be doing, and look up to yourself instead. Thomas Edison was a ruthless businessman who ran competitors out of business and borderline stole intellectual property. The founders of the U.S. owned slaves. Whenever you look up to someone you will eventually find out why you shouldn't have. Sometimes, sometimes there is an exception and you meet someone who is just good. But those exceptions are stupidly rare.But, I still kind of stand by what I said about adulthood just sort of hitting you, as it does most of the sighted people. The world has taken away the forces that pushed you forward and abruptly shifted the timelines of anything from weeks to years out from under you. I don't think I personally know any adult who doesn't think at least a year ahead when they say "I know, how about I move across the country". My future personal programming projects are sort of planned out until 2022 or 2023 at this point, in the sense that I know that's the earliest point at which anything will come of them because I only have weekends or whatever to work on it. Your expectations are still those of a high school student. You're holding yourself to those expectations, then getting frustrated when they don't happen; instead, you need to change them. At least change them to the sorts of expectations a typical sighted adult would have of themselves, because seriously you're idea of the average blind person is actually the average sighted person and having a plan that might work to let you move across the country in a year or two is pretty damn good by any standard whatsoever whether it works or not. I'm here to explain some of that, and to offer an apology to every one of you that I may have let down in so doing.I'm not going to go into a ton of personal detail here, but I'll sketch the outlines of what has been happening in my life in such a way as to hopefully help you understand why this topic even has to exist.First, I've been feeling off and on unwell for quite awhile now. I have had intermittent stomach problems for my entire life, and over the last couple of months, they seem to have changed a little. I'm investigating it, and there doesn't seem to be anything horribly wrong with me, but it's still been tough to deal with. The smell of food has been making me nauseous enough that there were two and three-day periods where I was eating meals one bite at a time, over a period of hours, if at all. I've been tired and listless (more on this later), and while I haven't experienced any real pain, I've been quite uncomfortable a good deal of the time. I am changing my diet and now taking some pills which seem to be helping, so let's hope I've experienced the worst of my physical ailments.Second, I've also been mentally unwell. I'm not suicidal and I'm not self-harming (unless you count the weird eating/food stuff as a form of self-harm, that is), but I have felt extremely small, insignificant and alone for quite awhile now, and those feelings sort of bubbled over during the last month and a half or so. I live alone and am not getting enough human contact, and that's making things worse. I know full well that some people have it way worse than I do, but for me, it's been plenty bad enough. At last check, I do not have clinical depression, but this period is probably the second or third lowest of my life. And it just so happened to coincide with physical symptoms. In fact, knowing what I do about concurrent disorders, they probably fed off each other a bit. If any of you know how this feels, you have my profoundest sympathies.I was not active here on the forum, nor on the discord server. I wasn't really checking in with anyone, except to occasionally muck about on Facebook or YouTube, and even that was spotty. I read a lot, slept a lot, lay in bed a lot, and ultimately did not perform my duties as an admin of this forum. For that, I humbly apologize. I should have informed the staff team, at least, far sooner than I did. I have since done so, and the general consensus seems to be that while they would definitely have appreciated better notice, they understand the way that life can sometimes kick a person in the teeth. I'm here today telling you this because I know that I bear responsibility for my inactions. I vow to be better about this in future.I hope that for most of you, this candid explanation is enough to explain and perhaps even excuse my absence. For the rest, I'd like to point out that this is really the first time I've done such a thing, so my silence is not an indicator of pattern behaviour. I tried asking a neighbor if they could teach me, and they said no. I could ask a few other neighbors, and that might get me somewhere. I can go to any place I want, any time I want. And no, my dad wanting to know where I am isn't a huge problem for me. I know why he does it. The problem is if I don't want to tell him. Which is rare. But when it does happen, he does his guilt trip thing. This happened when I started mental counseling a few months back, which has since stopped.So what the fuck am I thinking? This is my thought process.I am overwhelmed by adult life, and I have no sense of direction. I have the desire to get there, but no hope or motivation that I can get there. The only people who I can look up to for help is my dad and my state counselor, because my mother passed away when I was 12, my older brother was kicked out for being a dumbass, and my younger brother is living in a dorm in college.My dad doesn't know how to help himself, and my other brother has also expressed the same loss of direction because of this, so it isn't me who this is just affecting. And my dad says one thing, but does another, so I can't rely on him. However since I have no direction and no hope, that's exactly what I do.My state counselor is very slow, but very supportive. It turns out, it was someone else who they just now referred me too, that has the answers I am looking for. Build mines, farms and oil rigs to produce ammo, food and fuel for your vehicles of war. Also, unlike other games, buildings require a certain amount of people to operate. If your population is too low, then your buildings will have a productivity decrease, while if there is more population than jobs available you'll suffer unemployment, which leads to a decrease of happyness, and an overall middle finger to your nation. Its pretty easy to get into, and I like that the turns are 12 hours instead of PNW]s 2. Only in America are we so averse to the word.That being the case, it would seem to me that your original post sort of blew out of proportion something that, in the grand scheme of things, wasn't exactly all that big of a deal. Especially if what @75 is saying is true, that his intention was to stand up for someone he felt was being demeaned or in some way insulted. If that's true, then that certainly doesn't seem to fall within the "blindie behavior" category that you've attempted to articulate. I have known people with sight who would, and have, done the very same thing. Standing up for others isn't unique to the blind community, or to any other, for that matter. But there's also- A Blind Legend, which is free on phones, and more fun to play there, but the desktop version has no lives to worry about.- Alt-Frequencies which I'd say isn't worth getting normally, but is fairly priced now that there's a discount.- Audio Wizards, which isn't my thing, but others seem to like, so I guess it's OK.- Hades, which isn't accessible exactly, but is apparently playable.- Slay The Spire which is accessible after you install a few mods.- Sound Strider, which I'd recommend you get on itch.io instead, because the statistics are all in the game itself (no Steam achievements), and if you get it on Itch, you also gift someone a community copy. But wherever you get it, it's an awesome and chill game, very much worth the money.- Warsim, which has an unbelievably huge world and many things to do, and is just all around worth getting.That Western game is also apparently on Steam now.
