Re: microsoft flight simulator 2020

There are two viewpoints to this. I was frustrated with the inaccessibility of fs2020 because of what Microsoft had said, blind veterans testing ETC, but we suspected this was going to be the case for a while before release. Accessibility, after-all, can mean many things. There is an accessibility menu, with options for low vision, hearing, and so saying it was going to be accessible was very ambiguous. As some of you know, there is already a flight simulation community using fsx and P3d with various addons to fly. It's complex, but fun. Some of these addons, fs tramp for example, have been moved to the new sim as well, but without access to the UI of the sim itself this doesn't really help us. We were hoping that the plane cockpits themselves would be made accessible, but it seems the UI is the first challenge. We had contacted Microsoft and Asobo studios over this for months before, posts on forums, emails ETC. Some had contacts in Microsoft who couldn't find any info on screenreader support. I contacted some high-profile streamers with contacts who promised to get back to me, they didn't. That's the negative side. The positives are that Microsoft have committed to this sim for the next 10 years as a project, so there's time. Covid may have impacted things somewhat, we are unsure, but it would have at least been nice for some communication with us from Microsoft. The sim itself is still maturing, from what I hear the airliners are not really ready, and so it's probably not a bad thing that we wait for these teething problems to be sorted first. Meanwhile, the sims we have are still great anyway.

Re: Getting started with Microsoft Flight Simulator X

well here's the way i currently see it. I am passionate about aviation, of course there's my youtube channel at blind flightsimmer. Fsx is ok. IYP made it great, but now it's gone and nothing will change that. Fsx is old and no longer being developed, some third party planes will work with it but as more come out they probably won't. Fsx is pretty accessible once you learn your way around it, you can use jaws curser or nvda object nav. I heard a while back that a friend used p3d v3 with nvda but i haven't heard anything about v4, i know it did change quite a bit in v4 so we'll have to see. Now onto what you can use to fly. Fsxpilot is good, it's not that realistic but it works and the developer is quite responsive. It flies  all stock planes and some third party ones. You can add any plane to its directory but no guarantees it will fly that well as fsx pilot sometimes can't interface with the plane if it doesn't use standard controls or has a complicated set of automatic systems which keep kicking in. MCE is not bad, i tried the trial version in the end but did not see enough to buy it. It perform certain aircraft functions with speech recognition, whilst fsx pilot is more of a text application, but it cannot land the plane of course. The other thing is it can talk to ATC for you, although you can figure this out for yourself sometimes using the keyboard depending on what ATC addon you're using. It would be great if we could land with MCE, or even figure out how to land ourselves with info provided by MCE, but i doubt it. It's tough enough trying to keep the plane straight and level without any assistance from an addon, so to land it properly on the right point of the runway would be incredibly difficult. That's not to say it couldn't be done, although i have seen people try and struggle to do so, i really, really hope i am proved wrong of course. Then there's eurofly. As someone said earlier, not really a flight sim in full, but neither is fsx as the addons we currently have don't make it anywhere near to realistic. Eurofly is ok, if you add orins mod and my aircrafts it isn't bad, but then it still isn't good either. I would just say eurofly falls into the category of a game, fsx/p3d would be an actual simulator if only we had an addon to make it so. Fsxpilot is the best we have for now, and although it's not realistic it's probably the closest you can get at the minute

Re: Getting started with Microsoft Flight Simulator X

Hi. For me, the problem with fsx is the fact that it's just not as realistic as it used to be. There are some advantages, such as it has many airports and good soundpacks that you can download, but the problem is that with IYP gone it just feels a lot less immersive. You can use fsxpilot which is an autopilot which can fly the plane, but it's not as realistic. It's completely up to you, but i got fsx when IYP was around and if i could get it now i wouldn't because i'm not sure i would use it enough. Maybe just get eurofly for now, give it a go and if you like that then perhaps look at fsx.

nice. Sounds like it's coming along nicely. keep up the good work and hopefully we can make a really good game. Just one thing, how will the turning system work. When a played redspot a while ago i hated that turning system where you had to use q and e to turn quickly. I hope the turning system will be better so it's easier to turn and fire quickly, maybe just like control arrows turns you quickly to left or right.

sounds very cool. Reminds me of pub g if anyone knows what that is. Players can go in teams of up to 4 and work together or play alone. up to 100 people can play on each round. They parachute out of a plane and onto the map which is randomised each time. There are various items to pick up, IE things to defend you like bullit proof vests and helmits, various guns and boms and many more things. Planes perform drops every so often with new items. There is also a feature that you cannot just stay well away from the action and try to win by doing nothing. You start taking damage if you are not in the correct zone, for example a zone can be made around players to draw them more together. Just some ideas there.

I would love to see a car type sim. I really think there is a lot you could do with this. Different cars, different features IE more or less automated and stats, online multiplayer races and just driving around for fun, real world maps and roads, missions both fun ones and more serious ones like making actual jurnies. It would be great to, let's say, get together with a group of friends and decide we'll drive to this certain place like a real car journey. You could say select in what country and place you want to drive, i'm sure we could pull maps easily from somewhere. Then of course you would have to fill up your car and deal with the odd mechanical failure like the battary going or flat tire or something.

It's not as realistic but at least it can fly. There's eurofly as well of course, but that's nowhere near as realistic. You could take some of the checklist from IYP, or at least use some of the structures, they have them on videos. Hopefully if like you say you can get the numbers thing sorted then it will be able to fly all kinds of aircraft. That's the main thing I miss about IYP, the realism and the fact that it would always land ok, by that I mean it would touchdown on the runway well whereas fsxp sometimes messes up the landing and is awful in areas with high terrain

Re: developing a copilot for fsx/p3d, who wants to help me with that?

Hi.not sure about the number problem, could it work so that if the user wants to set a speed themselves instead of having the co-pilot manage it for them they enter it into a box, like fsxpilot does where you put in the speed and then it tries to get to that speed. For ils it would just be a case of the co-pilot getting the frequency and then descending to the correct altitude to capture the glideslope, then it could just follow it down.Visual approaches are more difficult, I think it would need coordinates of where the runway is and certain points at distances away from the runway so it could set speeds, flaps and calculate descent rates. As for VOR and DME, don't know what to suggest, I don't think even IYP did those or at least I never flew one. The most important thing first off is ils and visual as they are the main types of approaches. How easy is it to get the co-pilot application to interact with the aircraft, for example when the user says to turn something off the co-pilot has to know how to do that in that specific aircraft.

well this sounds brilliant. I really can't tell you how great this is. I pretty much know nothing about coding, but if you need any help with checklists or information I would be happy to help. I fly pretty much most of the time and try to learn as much as possible. This program would be a great help and if you need to know anything about aircraft then let me know. by the way, about the x plane thing, I was told it's not accessible at all. A co-pilot would be great for x plane as well but whether they would make the actual sim accessible is another thing. Fsx and P3D are of course accessible though.

Hi, well I haven't tried it myself but I do use fFSX. I know that it works ok, from what I have heard you can just about take off but the big problem is that it can't land the plane for you yet. Some people in the community were talking with them and trying to get them to improve certain parts but I don't think that's still going on for now. There is a trial version though. The only and best thing I can recommend is fsxpilot if you don't already have it, it can fly fine and it can at least land. Hopefully there will be some developments on MCE landing and stuff but it's not that easy apparently.

Anyway I wanted some sort of game or something to do whilst flying, nothing crazy like fighting games as I will be flying too. Any suggestions are welcome as I have know idea, just no really loud games or games that are way too easy. I would like something that I can continue on with for a while, at least for a couple of hours, so something with a bit of something to it if you know what I mean. I will be going over the Atlantic ocean you see heading for Toronto and so I will have a lot of time.

Your definitely  not the only one who wants to fly, I personally have loved flying and the idea of it since I could first understand what a plane was. well to get up and running, I had to install fsx, which was quite tricky with steam. I asked a sighted friend to do it in the end but it maybe accessible with a screenreader. It's relatively simple from their if you know what you're doing and you follow the I Y P setup guides which you can find on the website. Within a couple of days I was up and running and of course flying. The guide's are very extensive and very well put together, you should be able to get it setup using them and then there is a lot of info on using I Y P and flying with the sim if your new to it. I'm not sure about MCE and setup though but I would imagine it's not as complicated as I Y P, but of course it can't do everything we need it to do right now. Note if you do buy I Y P, the trial version doesn't ha
ve any support for the blind pilots mode, so you wouldn't be able to test it out. There are YouTube videos though, done by many different people, showing how it works with full flights and shorter demos. Declan.

Had a good amount of flights where it's crashed or just messed up the approach or something like that. Robert does seem to be quite disinterested, I.E not adding new aircraft or updating the application in any way. right now I think it's possibly the best setup, but if MCE got a bit more BVI   friendly it wouldn't be far off at all. I have watched a lot of videos with MCE and I think it could be very usable for us.I would be willing to try MCE in the future as it sounds pretty cool and I definitely want more aircraft to use. I know we have some driving games, but none of them have all the formular one tracks with cars, and they're not proper formular one races. For example we could have some kind of game with AI players with the professional formular 1 drivers names. We could have the tracks to do races around with the correct amount of laps for each one. I think this could probably be done, as for example we have Topspeed which follows the same kind of pattern but doesn't simulate formular one, it's just that it's driving style is the kind of thing we could use. We could, for example, pick a driver to be, have their car and go through a season. Just wondering if others would like this too and if anyone would think about doing this.

However when I go into iyp I just get debug and exit the program buttons. If someone could help me that would be great.thanks.

Re: Getting microsoft fsx, but have some questions first.

yep your right, I apologise for asking again. I have red through the pages again and the only question I can't find the answer for is my last one. When I launch the simulator, I get the opening addons screen. Sorry for the simple question, but how do I get past it with a screenreader (NVDA or jaws) to get to the mane screen.

Re: Getting microsoft fsx, but have some questions first.

Sorry for all the questions. I have now downloaded Microsoft fsx from steam, but when I launch it I am presented with lots of links to different addons or something. How do you get to the mane window, where I could for example start a free flight. When I press alt to try and get into the menus, nothing happens.thanks.

Re: Getting microsoft fsx, but have some questions first.

Hi, just wondering with it's your plane it doesn't seem to have an option for windows 10. It details in the manual all the other systems just not windows 10. Will it work when I download it and what system should I click on in the installation process. Thanks

Re: Getting microsoft fsx, but have some questions first.

And another question, when I get FSUIPC do I have to get the registered version. I know I saw above someone said you don't have to purchase it, just wondering what's the difference. Would it change anything in terms of my game if I didn't get the registered version? thanks.

Re: Getting microsoft fsx, but have some questions first.

Hi, so I am going to get Microsoft fsx, just with the basics at first like fsuipc and obviously it's your plane. Just a quick question, I want to download fsx directly onto my laptop so which website would I be best downloading it from. I have seen several websites allowing you to download it, like steam and Pc games or something. I'm not sure if it makes a difference where I get it from. thanks for any help.

microsoft fsx help

Hi,I have posted in another thread but I guess more people might see this hear. I am new on here, 14 and from the Uk, totally blind. I am looking to get into Microsoft fsx as I have always loved aviation, but I am not sure how to do it. I was wondering if, at some point, someone could help me with the setup and installation, as I don't know for example how to prepare the simulator for the addon iyp and how to get started. I would love to get in the air and be able to fly, with as much realism as possible. I'm sure i will have to learn the game and it will take time, but I'm looking forward to the challenge. If someone is experienced with Microsoft flight sim and at some point could help, or post telling me what to do whatever's easiest then that would be great.Thanks.

Re: Getting microsoft fsx, but have some questions first.

Hi, i'm new on here. I'm 14 and from the uk, totally blind. I have loved aviation for ages, and have been playing eurofly which, for me, just doesn't have enough functions. So, I would like to start whith Microsoft flight simulator and iyp, but I have never done anything like that before. I am not sure how to go about it, as in how to prepare the simulator after I have installed it and how to install iyp and to get it working. If anyone could help me at some point in the future to get it all working that would be great. Even a post detailing what to do could help me to get things up and running so I can get in the air and finally fly propally around the world.thanks.
