I'm thinking that we will release it using screen reader.I would have released other things, except I don't really have other ideas that sound vary fun, or that would be big enough to proove that I can or can not do this.

Hi.In my opinion, you should release the game with screenreader speech at the beginning. Then, people can see that you live up to your promises. I mean, I won't throw money into this project before I have seen you are able to make all that which is described in post one. You haven't, please correct me if I'm wrong, made other bigger projects which proves that you are able to make big projects like this.

You can always have lines voiced later in the project. By can I really mean should, start by making a game and when it is in good way add the gravy. Also, I don't know if people will want to voice act lines for free since you plan to sell the game.

Re: The future, and our plans. Gathering interest.

Well guys, we have a question for you. As of right now, the project has zero funding. This does not mean that it isn't happening, it simply means that we can't afford voice actors. Now, I myself can voice the main character, and we might, might have someone for the main antagonist. However, we don't think that it would be well-made sounding if some things are voiced by humans, and others are made by NVDA. If anyone wants to voice act for the project, as of right now it will not be paid. We just can't afford it. If we received donations, we could pay professional voice actors, but we will not be asking for that. So the question we have is this: do you want what few characters we can get voice acted voice acted? Or would you rather  have all things read by your screen reader. Thanks for any input.

Agreed with post 40, and I have to say, the way you handled it in post 38 Redfox, isn't exactly great for your image either.Sometimes it's best not to die on that hill when you know it'll only hurt you in the end. Ivan's reputation among desperate players that aren't between the ages of 11 and 16 is basically shattered anyway, so there isn't much more he can lose at this point. Re: The future, and our plans. Gathering interest.

Since when do we count our source code in characters? Is that with tabs or spaces (I don't know if BGT has indentation)I don't even like counting code in lines either, because people space things out differently and there's always boiler plate code.@20, no, setting a release date is the best thing you can do. Because it sets a target. If you have no key dates like that, you don't feel any pressure and you start working on things that are cool but doesn't make the game progress. Now at both of you, take it or leave it, but here are some advice on project management based on my experience as a team lead. I'll keep it simple:1) Divide your project in milestones. This is easy. Just sit down both of you an afternoon and write down all the features you want the game to have. This can be for instance:- Character moves- Character doesn't pass through walls (collision)- Skill - Attack- Skill - Fireball- 1000 levels- Actions trigger sounds (this can be further divided)etc. An afternoon is usually enough, you should leave features as big chunks or you can further divide them. This is not set ini stone either, it will evolve with the project, you can add new things, remove things, detail things, group things, etc. Then you take features of that list and put them into milestones. For instance:Milestone 1: proof of concept- Character moves- Character collides with walls- Level 1 (partial)Milestone 2: it lives- Levels 1-10- Ennnemies in mapsYou must choose a cool name for every milestone, it's mandatory. The number of milestones is up to you and depends on your project. It's reasonable to have a milestone every month or every two months, you don't want them to be too big nor too small. This is flexible, you can have milestone 1 taking up a month and milestone 2 two months, usually you want the proof of concept as soon as possible.2) WorkOk, so you created your feature list, milestones in about an afternoon, now it's time to work and start with milestone 1. This is also easy. Break down the features in the milestones in tasks. Tasks should be a day worth of job, you don't wanna start and create tasks of 30 minutes worth of job.The key difference here is that tasks are sometimes not directly related to the game. Say you take feature level 1 for instance, then the tasks could be:a) Basic level editor: I can place walls, start of level and end of level.b) Design level 1 in the level editor (depends on basic level editor): make and test the level. You must scope the tasks, you don't get started and write the fully featured level editor right away, you just do what's needed for level 1. You do the minimum. You'll come back to it later for features that requires it. Otherwise you end up doing work that will not make the game progress. It's handy to write when tasks depends on other tasks, because that mean you usually cannot parallelize them, you have to do one then the other after. You can create the tasks for the whole milestone, or about a week of work at a time.Ok, so you've got your tasks, you can get started. Pick a task you wanna work on. one at a time, Now is the most important part, guesstimate how much time that task will take you. Make the basic level editor ffor instance, say you think it can be done in 8 hours, then put the guesstimate to 8 hours. Then do the task and measure roughly how much time it took. Say it took 12 hours. When the task is done, mark it as done and write how much time it really took (12 hours).Doing the estimate and writing the actual time it took is the most important thing, because it allows you to:- See if your milestones are reallistic or not- Give you better guesstimate skills for future tasks in the project as well as future project management 3) At the end of a milestoneTest out your milestone, very important. See if you met all the features. Try to find bugs and put them to fix in the next milestone. Then, reajust the planning. If you notice you are late compared to the schedule, you can reajust by:- Removing features in milestones and in the final project or- Work more hours to compensate or- Push back the release date or- Outsource work / hire new people (probably not applicable in your case)And there are other things you can do about it, but those are the main ones. Generally, you will want to take those decisions at the end of a milestone. Conclusion:Project management is often overlooked. But it can also be dangerous, don't fall in the trap of planning too much. Planning should take between 10-20% of your time. You shouldn't plan in details things too far away time-wise, go in details for the week or the milestone. Every project is different and everyone works differently, you can adjust this method, these are just tips and of course there is much much more in project management than that.Projects with no planning often will not ship or will take 5 years. Projects with too much planning are too heavy and you waste way too much

@25, I believe you've misunderstood me.There are some games that are open sourced (look at mason's titles), all I was suggesting that the OP could have, perhaps, looked at one open sourced project, do note the open part, and decided that coding would be simple. In no way did I try and question the OP's integrity, forgive me if I came across as such. I will not accuse somebody unless I can prove that they did it with 100% certainty.

I am not going to speculate on what is happening in terms of development.  Post 22 is a prime example of such needless speculation, and it accomplishes nothing.  The line here:1: One of you got a game source (probably Redfox).is especially troubling to me, since you seem to be suggesting that Redfox has done something underhanded, unethical, or illegal, unless I'm reading that incorrectly.  Touching on another topic in this forum speaking of respect between devs and players in this community, making claims such as this, without proof, is disrespectful to the people who are developing.  Don't you think that it certainly would lessen enthusiasm of developers to know that if they post about a project that they want to make and share with everyone, they can expect to read spurious claims against their integrity.  Perhaps we should give devs the benefit of the doubt and wait to see what occurs before we rush to judgment.  Just my opinion. All of that having been said, Redfox and Jimmy, I am not going to bash you for using BGt or tell you not to use it.  I will say that aside from the whole Windows Defender issue, one which cannot be fixed easily, if you truly want this game to be ultra complex and huge, you might want to consider a different language that can more easily handle that sort of scope.  I am afraid that due to BGT's limited single threading functionality, you're going to have major performance issues once the game begins to become bigger, especially on older PCs.  If you ever want aspects of this game to become multiplayer, which I gotta say would be freaking amazing, you don't want to do that in BGT.  The networking stuff in BGT is awful.  Moreover, if you want controller support in this game, which I think would also be cool, I wouldn't do that in BGT.  I find BGT's joystick support to be rudimentary at best.  I tested it with my XB 1 controller, and it can't see half of the axes or buttons for the thing.  There are several discussions in the developer room about using Python in lieu of BGT, as well as _javascript_, C++, some other languages I think.  I myself am looking at learning Python, simply for the knowledge.  All of that is merely my opinion.  At the end of the day it's your choice, and I'll be more than happy to test what you come up with when that time comes.

@22, I understand where you are coming from, except that I'm making the game from scratch, with minor influences for the outside. I did say, hey I'm making a game you want something in it and he's like yeah let's do this and then it went into this. You are right about not hyping it up, as we saw with AHC and Echo's of Lovia.

Re: The future, and our plans. Gathering interest.

Okay, I'll take your word. However, as I see this, things look like the following:1: One of you got a game source (probably Redfox).2: They look at the source code and go "Oh, this is easy."3: They tell their friend.4: Their friend gives them more ideas.5: Since the point 2 happened, the person from point 1 goes "Oh, no problem! I can hack this out in like 3 hours!"6: The two friends post on this forum saying that they'll release a game with huge amount of content (remember, the person in post 1 decided that coding is easy).7: We arrive at this situation.I wish you two luck, because you're gonna need some. A lot of luck. At least your brains are in the right place, developing the tools rather than building a house. Who knows, you might just make a huge market buster and make a name here. I will remain skeptical until the game is released and we have something worth playing, however.Final word of advice: Don't hype the game up. I know it sounds controversial, but look at AHC and it's history. People were over it pretty quickly. I'm not saying AHC is bad in any way, but a lot of folks will agree with me when I say it was overrated.

@20, a demo is planned for around August first, with 75 levels, but that is still tentative. At the moment, we are focusing on getting the game engine built, a menu to quickly craft levels  and enemies, and I know it is a lot, but the way we have structured this means it is obtainable and realistic. As to pricing, the game, after extensive talks, will feature the demo wich is 75 levels, and the full game for either 50 or 40 dollars, depending on the amount of detail. I might sound crazy, but the plans we have in place mean that this can, and will happen.

Reflecting on the game described in the first post it almost sounds like crazy party meets pacman. I actually played a game kinda like the one here, where the story was spread through a maze full of minigames. It was naruto ultimate ninja heroes 2. We had to climb a 100 story tower full of rooms with minigames and fights and hidden stuff and cut scenes. I personally liked the game, the story was engaging enough to keep me going, but I have read reviews where people got tired of doing the same thing over and over. So this thing is going to have a lot to live up to.

Re: The future, and our plans. Gathering interest.

I um, don't know what to say, the things I'd normally say, well... it seems that logic has gone out the window. OK so like, I wish this project success, but I have serious doubts about it being finished within the year.  Then multiple games in one, so not only do you have to build a thousand levels, but the coding for the other games too. Yeah I really do not see this happening. It seems like you're taking way too big a bite out of the apple and when it goes horribly wrong, it'll make you never want to touch code again. I know this problem intimately because I share it, but I've learned to recognize when I'm doing it to myself. This is one of those things that if you want to do it, you put it on the back burner and come out with smaller projects first. That way two things, A) You'll learn more about coding along the way; B) You'll have the experience under your belt about releasing a game. You work your way up to things, giving yourself a bit of a challenge, so you learn new things and test your abilities without jumping into the deep end of a pool with a lead weight tied to you.I think it's great you want to do this thing, but remember, there's two parts to this overall, the dreaming, and the doing. Some people in life never get their heads out of the clouds, they've got all these ideas, but never get anything done, and so are always just scraping the bottom of the barrel, or are locked down in a job they don't want with no hope of advancement, because they can't give up on their dreams to put more effort into their work, so they do enough to get by. Then you have people with boundless energy, but no where to direct it to. My advice would be to take your dreams, and try to actualize them through setting realistic and attainable goals for yourself. Don't be a dreamer, be a doer. Our imagination, our fantasy life is vitally important to the creative process, but we can't let it run away with us either. We need to strike a balance there.

Not a big fan of the pricing model here either. I'd rather just purchase a completeable game off the bat and see from there if I want to plop down some extra cash on some side stuff depending on my experience and the quality of the game. Also since people have such a wide range of PC settings and specifications, a demo should at least be made available.

we are planning a very in depth builder, meaning I can build a level in around an hour for the first few levels, and the longest, around the 950 mark, would only take about a week or shorter. I have the summer off and plan on building a lot, and in this package, a massive solection of miny-games will be available, such as a fully-functunal drum machine. But don't want to spoil toom much, but the end of the year is a resonable goal for the way we are setting this up

Re: The future, and our plans. Gathering interest.

Alright, here I go. I have no idea if this is going to be interpreted the right way but I might as well try. I'm just wondering if you've thought this through all the way. Hand-crafting a thousand levels with a story is going to take a lot longer than till the end of 2019. Unless you have a centillion ideas and a flexible building engine to create them with, rather than writing out the code for each one. And considering what you are invisioning for the other content, I can easily see this taking multiple years. Also, I can't say I'm a big fan of your suggested pricing model, but that may be because I hate dlc and micro transactions in general. I'd much rather pay a flat price in the beginning. What I would do is release something larger and charge a good amount for it, if it does turn out to be worth the price. Then after a while you can release a payed expansion that you don't need in order to play the story of the base game, but is still fun to play. Still, I wish you luck in whatever it is you're doing. And I know it sounds lame and everyone says it, but if playtesting or alpha evaluation is ever required, feel free to contact me.

There are going to be 1000 levels of hand-crafted story, plot, and exploration. There will be a very in depth story line, and there won't be a camera, as in real life, how ever there will be elevation.  In addition, each level won't be a straight forward path, and there will be monsters, traps, and much, much more

The 1000 levels, were they procedurally generated? Will there be varying gameplay as the player progresses through them? When you say 3D navigation, do you mean 360 degrees on flat surface or with elevation. Is the camera turning in a circle or you can look everywhere like in real life?

The future, and our plans. Gathering interest.

Hello! My friend and I, jimmy69, are planning on making a game. Woa! Big surprise! No one ever does that! Like! Ever! All jokes aside: I'm going to pitch some of my ideas to you, and gather your thoughts.Programming language:Woo! Startin it off with a biggy!Witch programming lang do we use?Well, currently, coding the early early beta stages of this game in progress, gamet, little itty bitty game? Anyway, this game in beta, I'm using bgt. Now! Before you get your panties, briefs, boxers, or any other undergarments that you may or may not be partaking in in a twist, here me out.I have made quite a bit of the game, as a little side project for fun, with bgt. Aproximately, rough guess here, maybe 20,000 characters, including the includes. This is, needless to say, a lot, especially sense the game doesn't have a lot of includes as of now. This is after a week or two of work, and I'd hate to just dump this much effert because of some silly little issues. Are they silly though? The problem is that bgt is single-threaded, witch, for the uniniciated, means that it can only run one function at a time, witch for the unaniciated, is bad! This is workable though. There are plenty of grate games with bgt, but it's hard to deal with because of other issues.Windows... fuckin... defender...Ugh!I swear to god! Windows defender if you don't get off my god damn computer right fucking now I will beat you over the god damn head with this god damn driver so god damn hard that you'll never god damn false positive again! a!Ok, now that I've calmed down, bgt executables are constantly being falsely flagged by win defender, an undeletable, ununinstallable, is that a word? Nope, undefeatable, program, that refuses to go the fuck away!Basically, I have to do a lot of work to make win defender not flag my game. If anyone could explain to me how to do this, because I'm pretty sure there is a way, but I don't know how.Pricing.This game, when released, will be truly massive, probably the biggest game this comunity has, and will, see for a long time.Featuring: A massive amount of games, all packaged in one, including: A massive, 1,000 level maze/strategy/puzzle/logic game, some dice, card, and board games, some fun little arcade style games, and even more!A vary wide price range, for leniency's sake. Two vary, vary creative yung developers, with lots of time on there hands. The price ranges, based on the maze, are:$10 for the first 50 levels,$15 for the first 100 levels,$20 for the first 200 levels,$25 for the first 300 levels,$30 for the first 500,and all the way up to $50 for 1,000. With an aditional 5 bonus levels, that are not part of the possible story that the maze may have.Note: These pricings are subject to change at a developer's whim.Other Plans.Although the maze is the biggest plan, we have many more. For example: We are planning on making a large scale dungeon crawl type game, with enemies, using the entire keyboard to fight. It will feature fully 3d movement, combat, interaction with items, creatures, and npc's.There will be military style games, from being a front line artilleryman to an alete sniper with 69420 confirmed kills, and that's just the confirmed ones.Play as a spy, a secret agent, an assassin,  a bodyguard, or anything you please.Paint the streets red, or paint them pleasing shades of gray.Conclusion.In conclusion, this game, although pricy, will have majorly dedicated developers. Please post on this topic and tell us what you think of our ideas,Cheers:Redfox.
