Journal of UairLordsday, 1st day of May of the year 1219I watched some one die today, and completed a task. Just had to get that out. We spared a bit, in the heat of battle I of course failed to notice that I was still holding my pack from foraging. Stupid mistake. And of course I still held it while I dragged her unconscious body towards the guild, the place where I knew where the infirmery is. Yeah, if I were fast enough she wouldn't have died. Died and then I dragged a body. Just a body with, from my own experiences, her soul dragged along with it, blind and deaf and unfeeling to anything around it. Dragged it to the infirmery and they couldn't do a thing about it. She's dead. Dead as all the infested I'd killed, dead. But of course, they were infested. She isn't, well to my knowledge that is. I met a guy somewhere around there, maybe on the road back to Haiben? Yeah, think so. He followed me there, to haiben, showed me where the temple and the place where we needed to put her was. Her body, I mean. Just a body, I dragged a body, corpse, cadaver, neffesh. So yeah, we wanted there a while, and finally a monk came and put her soul back innto the body. I'd never seen this in action before, but it was, well, a quick process. I'm not sure what I feel now. After that, and it's all foolish. She's alive and well now. But she died. And I dragged her body. Well there is good news. After all that, the guy helped me find those caves, and well I think he helped me because I have too much that I'm carrying around, gotta sell those herbs if I find the market in Haiben, but yeah I killed my target, this big bat that's so dangerous for some reason, so yeah. All that happened. I need some food. Lots and lots of food. I don't care if my rank in the brotherhood goes down because I'll be so fat and full for a while, but shoot. Gonna find a tavern and have some fun! Don't that sound nice, dear journal? Oh, gotta read that guide book too. Learn where all the herbs are, get better at poultices.

Whatever, I can get quartz from my area, and Malakai too.I left with a good 1100 Riln. I never, ever thought I'd have that much Riln. What could I possibly do with that much money? Ah well, I'm sure some disaster will happen, and I’ll need to spend all of it, so better not waste it. Along my travels out of Shadgard, I had only followed the road for so far before I turned back. Oh, that reminds me, I must get more bandages. Anyways, through the guidance of those communicating through the pendant network, I decided to attempt to overcome my fear of getting lost in the wilderness and travel the road more.So, I traveled northward, I found that town of infested, and killed a few with my bare hands. I never thought I'd be able to do that, but with the gloves studded with metal, I was able to beat them to death. The most amazing part was that I left that place with mere scratches.Northward I traveled, through the mountain pass and onward, passing the village of infested I remember visiting months and months ago, when I was still around haiben. Yes, I knew I was close then. Ironically, I passed the town on my first pass, and wound up in the place I was really looking for, the Retreat of the Brotherhood of the Fist.It had been about a year ago when I became a member of the Brotherhood of the Fist. At that time, I had been wandering around, not really thinking much about what I was doing. I had found the Retreat and became a member almost flippantly. I figured that I wouldn't find another guild to be a member of, so why not choose this one.Now, though, it seems that I’ve been growing into this guild, without really thinking much of it. The last thing to fall was my reliance on weapons. Now I'm not sure what to do with this broad sword I carry. I don't think I'll sell it just yet though. I never know when I may really need it. Then again, maybe I'll never need it, judging by how easy it is to kill with the fists.So, I first looked at the shop in the retreat. Not much that I want there. I don't need style; I need to be able to kill the infested and Nethrim. Then I went to the infirmary and was healed for free. I'll have to remember how to get back there. Then I came to the office.The leader of the brawlers was in the office as I stepped in. After relating my travels to him, I asked him what all services he offered. Turns out, he can train me in dodging and other combat things that I need to stay alive. just because I've been brought back to life these times, doesn't mean I want to die, or that the next time won't be the last time I die.So, we practiced dodging for a while. I felt like I learned a little, but the backpack I wear is so full of stuff, stuff which still is important, that I doubt I'd ever be very quick with it.I then asked him about any tasks he may have for me. He told me about this racoon that's hard to kill, and it's in that town with infested. I still can't recall the name, much less how to spell it. He said that I should kill it, so kill it I would.I rested for a while, pondering the journey ahead. It would be a long one, yes, but I knew I could get this task done. If I can kill shades and infested with my hands, I could kill a raccoon, surely.So, I got up, and walked back to that town. Through the pass, passed the downed caravan, almost got lost in the prairie but found my way back to the road, and finally found the town.The town had farmland first, before the town proper. I figured the raccoon would be there, so I searched around the area. I found a few raccoons in my search, killing them along with the infested who always seem to want to kill me. Eventually, I found one unique raccoon, with scars all over its body. I had the feeling that this would be the right one, and the battle proved it. The thing could hide in the shadows, then attack out of nowhere. I spent a good while fighting it, and finally killed it.As I buried the raccoon, I thought about how far I'd come in just a few weeks. I'd learned so much about mining, gathered hundreds of riln, and now accepted my role as a Brother of the Fist. of course, an infested just had to intrude upon my thoughts. I didn't have the energy to kill it, so I didn't waste time fighting it. I quickly left that town and traveled back to the retreat.There, I went back to the glorious free infirmary, healed and rested, then went to tell the leader about my success. he was happy to hear of the raccoon's defeat, and gave me 100 more Riln, as if I know what to do with that, and guild points.So today has been an eventful day, and I'm tired. Even though its 9 bells, and zenith hasn't even occurred yet, I'm ready for a longer rest than an infirmary floor can provide.

It's pretty exhausting and I seriously need several days off, so no grinding/rping on clok for now. May be in a few days when my headspace clears enough.

I can't remember the initial cost, it is steep for a newbie, like 2K riln or 5K or something. My elemancer character always felt like adrift, she never had any riln ever, was always basically scrounging for food and stuff. I can't remember her name either, damn lol.

Yeah for RP, you really need to separate out your emotions and your characters. They shouldn't do what you do, act or react in the way you would. Once you've done that once, it's no big task to switch that out for another set of attributes.

But if I am to RP, all my characters would act the same, lol. I'm not very good at RP anyway, so I'm not sure if I could do that well with multiple characters. The one I have reacts how I would react in that situation now, that's the best at RP as I can get.

Okay, Clok may be my new MUD home. Last night, I played for an hour or two. In that time, I did some foraging to get money, ate a few pot pies, which I could almost taste, although I kind of wish there were more messages than just three, and that they were more randomized because I got one or two more than once. I *remember* buying a pick ax, going into the mines, noticing that I couldn't go into the eastern tunnel, so I went into the dimmer southeastern one. There, I did some mining, although I wish the sounds in Mata's pack were a bit more self-explanatory of what's actually going on, because it changed a bit and sometimes I couldn't picture what's going on, especially one that sounds like I strike wood, and something falls. And then, something a bit cool and unexpected, a shade comes around! So, I'm not too cought up to this Canim business and that Nether stuff, so I go back to the main mining area. The mining chief don't care, so it must be pretty common. So I give it a while, and go back into the tunnel, and oh my goodness, it's still there, waiting on me, eager to see me, as it were, because it comes right at me. At first I pannic and just hit it with the pick ax, but that isn't my style of fighting and I know it. after getting hurt a bit, I wrap myself in bandages and go back to the main mining area to rest. I go back in, and I notice that the shade has, sort of, dimmed a bit. I don't think much of it, I just hope that my brawling skills can kill it. Nope, touching it hurts me much more than it hurts it. So, I wrap my wounds and rest a bit more. I go back in, with my sword and shield this time, like a propper person. This time, it's not all that needed, the thing sort of, fizzles out like a dying fire. Strange. So I put my war stuff away and get back to doing productive things, like, oh, clearing away the ruble that fell, which, now that I think of it, is probably what brought the spook around.I mine some more, and another nether shade comes in. I grab my sword and shield, and bannish it properly this time, with a good sound slashing of my blade, and a healthy dosage of blocking with the shield. During the time of resting afterwards, I also forage more and buy a sling for practicing with rocks, and maybe getting good at not being the object of all this abuse my poor body has taken from all this. After mining more, I find a tin vein, so maybe I can get something out of this and sell it, and work on combatting the nether beings while I'm at it.So yeah, thanks all who work on Clok, and Matta for the amazing sound pack, it really makes me feel like I'm there.

Hi.Thanks a lot for the demonstration. The mud sounds really interesting. That's something I'll take a look at, thanks to the demonstration. I like the fact that you are riting a horse, and the way combat and healing works. Sounds like it's more realistic than most muds out there. The soundpack is awesome...I'm not used to mud scripting, trickers and all that automatic stuff. I find it quite tricky, and prefer to do things manually. But maybe I'll get used to all that if I start to play muds some more. Anything which makes this mud unique compared to other muds out there accept for the battle and bandage and healing?

CLOK MUD Audio Demonstration

I have made a demonstration of CLOK. It has a few topics dedicated to it here on the forum, and I wanted to create this one for discussion on the gameplay, and take suggestions for guides or tutorials on anything else you'd like to see. The demo is packaged as a zip because it contains a credits.txt. This demo was also created with the permission of the GM team, which I have received in written form in an e-mail. If you were on the fence about CLOK, maybe this will help you decide one way or the other. It was made using Artus's MUSHclient pack, so there will be game audio as well as speech and commentary.The file may be downloaded here. It also demonstrates two plugins I've created for MUSHclient, both of which I think will be making their way into Artus's pack.I can make more of these, but the quality of the audio being what it is, I realize its not great, but if I try to mess with it, it just sounds worse, ,its the best option I have though at the moment. I will not make recordings that show off guild secrets, perks, or spoil the game or anything like that, however.

There're soundpacks for both vip and mush. I'm maintaining the mush one.Now the playerbase increases a lot after the lag fix thanks to some of you guys, and it can range from 5-20+ a day. seeing these numbers makes me happy.

Loving this mud so far, but holy god blacksmithing is grindy! I'm finally able to produce some average and above quality crafts every now and again, but even though my skill lvl is around 250 I still get the good ol malformed lumps sometimes. At least finding practice materials is easy enough, and I have learned some smelting techniques that have made me a lot wealthier I have to say. Honestly though, the thought of grinding it out and actually becoming decent at every type of forging makes me cringe a little bit.

So the GMs dont' really care if you write out ritch, detailed emotes.  As long as you try, it'll be more fun for you and everyone involved.If you're "terrible," at RP (or you think you are), avoid monk/templar/rook/sharr/thief/mummer.The tse gaiyan is a middle ground.  artisan/mercenary/wyrvardn/snowpine/elemancer are good intro guilds for those new to RP/feel like they suck.Just give it a try.  there's really no pressureworst you can do is not have fun.

Some guilds have rather serious rp, like those of the church. If you wanna go solo and never involve much, look for something casual.

I know it says way back when that this game is rp enforced, but for those familiar with actually playing the game long term, having experiences in the different guilds, how strict is it? I only ask as the game itself sounds truly wonderful, but I'll admit, I'm probably the world's worse rper ever. I don't mind keeping things in character, aside from a few slip ups here and there, but the going majorly into detail to do the smallest action, I've never been good at. I tend to solo a lot, if I can and really only try to ask for help if I need it, so would that be an issue?Either way, from all I read here about it's features and such, it sounds pretty cool.Take care.

Ironcross.  All objects in the game have a "pre-read" which is basically the adjectives such as "large oak", a noun, which is just that, such as "gate", and may optionally have a "post-add" which is some additional details on the item such as "bound with cast iron reinforcements". Very few objects in the game have multiple nouns, but general rule for those is to match based off the first word in the noun. If it is hyphenated, you can match based off of either the first or second.You always target the item by the noun. If there are multiple items with the same noun in a room, you can use part of the pre-read to assist in targeting the item. The post-add is never used for targeting.For example, in a room with two gates, you could "go oak gate", "go large oak gate", or even "go second gate" to go through the gate that shows up second. Note that "other" is also an alias for sec
 ond.If you've found items that aren't following the above, it sounds more like a problem in the way the item was designed than a difficulty with our parsing system. Do you have any specific examples?

It really is so much better now with the new server. I'm enjoying myself a ton playing. As to making money, I always start a new char off atempting to do tasks if they join a guild, asuming I found a decent weapon in the crate usually in the town square. If not that, then  foraging out in the forest, and once I've saved up a little over 400 riln more or less, I buy an axe and borrow a handcart to do some logging. But that's just me, there are a lot of ways to earn riln.

What confuses me, hmm, a lot of little things. I am liking the game a lot though, especially since the new server is far less laggy. I want to make some money to buy a horse so I can go further without always having to be worried about food things, but they cost a lot, and I don't have a lot, so I'm just gonna have to work up to it. I do feel like the system fights me sometimes though, because certain objects don't have logical aliases, but I did figure out it usually aliases to the last word in a name. It's frustrating at times when stuff doesn't work the way you'd think it should, and you have to play guess the syntax to try to get it to behave.

Anthony, if you're talking about the Guild of Thieves, it's not so secret that you can't ever ever talk about it. Especially OOCly on an external forum that I don't even have any control over, lol. I admire your willingness to not go into detail through.What you're going to want to do is find an existing member. There's like 3 of them that are semi-active right now, one in particular plays quite a bit, daily. The Guild is entirely player-initiated. Just have one of them vouch for you and you're in.Though, a good thief doesn't get caught. You might want to tone it down a bit. If your character gets a reputation of overt crimes and constantly being in jail, then that's actually going to work against you. the Guild doesn't want it's members revealing themselves to the public. So, I want to join a guild that's pretty secretive but not as much as some, and I'm not sure how! I mean it's not supposed to be strait forwarde, I know that, but I've gotten thrown in jail like 50 times doing what I'm sure the guild will require me to do, and I don't know how I'm supposed to roleplay and draw attention without making a total ass of myself. Maybe that's what it'll take, which is fine, I've never really played a hated char before, but I'm wondering if anyone firstly knows what I'm talking about and secondly could give me some pointers? Nah it still lags even without that. I am about to install it though actually and play some. I don't know what would make MUShclient lag, because its a very stable, non laggy client though, so something is definitely going on there code wise that's a no no to make it lag. Even huge packs like MUSHz don't lag the client any.

Attention to those who use my soundpack, I just got a confirmation from Jirato today that it was the other source of a little lag you may encounter. He gave it a try himself, and gave it to the other gms. They all reported the same. It's not a serious lag though. I'm trying to reduce the size, recode the triggers and do something to at least optimize it. The update may be slower than I expect because of this.

A response from Jirato:The lag is possibly caused by some dump files from the engine since Rias coded it. Rias originally just wanted to use Clok as his "practice" of python, and it grew up to be a really awesome project as it is. Right now there's a lot of issue with the dump data every time something is executed. Jirato himself doesn't have time to code it (he said it would take roughly a year), but he handed the engine to his partner to rewrite it. His partner is a full time programmer, and might not be able to finish very soon. What Jirato is trying to do right now is fixing the characters/items dump files so it'll have less data to dump each execution, and thus reduce the lag in the process. Wooya! There's something to be done afterall, right? Not gonna be soon but still.And now we know Clok is written in python. The code itself has lag issue since ages ago. The engine came from Rias. Jirato took over it. And it's been wonky sinc
 e the start. I hope you all understand.

I know some of you lovely Clokkers check this topic so often, and some of you don't have rss feed on so here we go!It's not about soundpack, reason why I don't announce it in my Clokpack topic. It's about...the return of our lead coder, and 2x 10%+ bonus skill gain!Jirato didn't have time to code much, nearly not at all, because he was moving house (I found out yesterday). Yesterday he was back briefly to announce a little gift originally intended for this weekend, but may be he'll keep it permanant for you grinders to get to work, who knows.:pThe bonus works like this: If we have more than...originally 15 but he got it down to 10 last night my time. So 10 players on (him doesn't count) = 10% skill bonus multiplier, 11= = 20%, 12=30% and so on. If we get more players it might be up to 15 or 20 though, but it's always good to see our home sweet home back in activity, right?Also, Tarueka is back, with a little resen eve

it doesn't lag. that's the command timing. and it's usually not 3 seconds either. it's rather 1 or 2 seconds at best unless you're really really laggy at your end yourself

I'm still getting some pretty horrible lag when I try to play. Like, waiting almost 3 seconds after pressing l for look kind of lag. Not sure what's up, but clok is an amazing mud, and some days the lag doesn't seem as bad as others.

a night is a night. they are on U.S mountain  time, your character doesn't need sleep though, and most players never actually bother with houses. it is mostly a combination of an RP thing, and storage. though as i said earlier, for most things the bank is cheaper, and honestly safer storage

I'd say iron is worth selling, even a little riln adds up quickly, if you're looking for one big find that will pay for your house, you're not going to find it, my advice is mine out anything you find, sell it and go mine more. you'll get better at mining this way, while earning the riln you'll eventually need. keep in mind you will find more valuable things as you get better and that will make things go quicker, but even now I don't leave anything behind, because hey that's quick easy riln.as to the house, trust me, the bank is cheaper but if you really want something, consider renting an inn room, cheaper than a house and you probably have the riln to do that now, especially if you keep mining out the iron and stuff. also keep in mind, some markets pay more for some things than others, and players might pay more still.edited to add, a horse despawns with you when you log out, but any wagons it might be pulling do
  not so you'll want to find a safe place for that, or return it.

If you log out while riding a horse, the horse despawns with you.  I always log out on a horse.  This way I don't get charged when it gets brought back to a stable.

so let's start with mining, mining is probably the best way to make money even with the town mines and a few in the wild dangerous places being your only options, the thing is it takes a while to get to a place where you're finding good stuff and quickly enough to make it worth it. polishing gems is the same way, when you start you'll lose money because you are not very good at it, but as you get better, you drastically increase  the gem's value.

To add to maric's point : if you seek clok soundpack for mush, the stable, easier to set up one is by Sneak, aka Coanid in clok. I recoded the extended version of that pack that is harder to set up but with more sounds floating somewhere in the forum as well. If you need stabler, easier to set up version, go for the original one. If you need something more of a deal, harder to set up but worth it, I wouldn't mind helping uou set up my pack. Thank you.
