Re: Knfb reader and how great it is. Hi.I agree that KNFB Reader is an awesome and pricy app.KNFB Reader doesnt do a better job regarding to OCR than the other apps. Thats not a new thing. But the great thing about KNFB is the way the app is processing the images and making the best possible readable result out of the pictures. KNFB works better for me than all the other OCR apps out there. Yes, it reads computer screens and displays as well, which is really awesome. I have used this a cupple of times.Regarding to not getting a great result when taking a picture of a paper:Dont set the flash to auto. Either turn it on or off. Why? Because, if the paper is white, the light will make the result very bad. I learned this the hard way, and setting the flash to auto will not always work, like the app dont always know when to turn on the flash. So my ad vice is to turn off the flash, and only turn it on if you are getting a bad result.Regarding to screens: I have used KN FB on an other iPhone to check whats on the screen, on different computers when installing Windows and other siturations where a screenreader couldnt talk, and I have used it on other tablets and displays as well. Not always with the best result, but most of the time with usable results. I love this app, and for me, the price is worth it.I totally understand that some people wont buy the app before they have tried it. For me, KNFB Reader is much much better than all other OCR apps out there. KNFB is not just an OCR app, but also an image processing app, which automatically makes the best result out of a picture taken by us blind folk, which the other apps are having trouble on doing. I got a perfect field of view report first, 0 degrees rotated with 4 edges visible with the phone just over a foot above the page. It starts off fine, but as you read further and further down the gibberish creeps in. Maybe my gas provider have hidden a curse in my latest gas bill and knfb has picked it out. GO to document type in the main screen click on that, flick down or up to select malty column then click on back and see if that makes a difference. It does for me. Oh and you should probably turn the flash to automatic.and not have a lamp. KNFB reader should provide enough light. Its like you dont refer to certain groups as gays, blacks, and so on, its removing their status as people and describing them purely by a characteristic they have no control over. I understand youre probably not a native English speaker so this may not make sense, but if this was said by or read by a native english speaker it would be a significant distinction. If sighted people see blind people referring to themselves as blinds theyll think its acceptable to do so, while I know this forum is mostly made up of the visually impaired it can turn up on search results so someone doing research into visual impairment for whatever reason could come across this and the more topics where its said the more likely they would be to find it. These letters are plane text and frankly the app shouldnt be doing that. So its just meh and given what they are charging for the thing it shouldnt be just meh. And even though KNFB may have a bit more support for fine tuning the angle and more export options which are useful for vision teachers and such, the recognition its self is basically just as accurate, and it runs on phones down to 3gs, not 5 and above like KNFB Reader. Knfb reader and how great it is. Hello.Ive finally installed windows 8.1 and played the space themed games, Ive decided space games arent for me, but thats not why I made this topic.NO. I made it to tell you about an awesome IOS app I got called KNFB reader.Its a bit pricey, being priced at $100, thats £75 over here in the UK.IF you dont know, its a reading app aimed at the blind. Point, take a picture and KNFB reader starts reading to you.Why do I think this app is the most awesomest app apart from Tap tap see, that is on my Iphone? Well, Wen installing windows 8.1 with my dad, the download got to %85 and my dad went home. Once windows had restarted, I didnt know what to do.Narrator wasnt working, NVDA wasnt working, oh yeah, i bought KNFB raeder, hmm i wonder... i wonder...Oh go on, try it, I thought and I did. IF youre thinking I went downstairs, took a picture of some chicken, cooked it and ate it, youd well, be wrong, Id have liked to, but nooo, windows had to go and get its self installed didnt it? What do you mean I installed it, Id never do such a thing as that, well okay maybe... Anyway what did I actually do? I took a picture of my laptops screen and guess what? No text detected... Let me get this strait, you wrote all that just to tell us it didnt detect the text? Yes, yes I did. Great isnt it? I did try again, you want to here about that? OK well I took another picture, keeping the phone quite a bit away from the laptop this time, and it said, downloading files %46! I was shocked. SO I tried again, it worked. I phoned my dad, telling him how awesome this is. I tried again after it restarted and it worked fine. I phoned my friend amin, A.K.A Bashue, telling him how awesome this was and tried one more time and yep, you guessed it, went down stairs to eat chicken. OH alright, I didnt but Im going to now, and yes it did work the last time.What Im saying is, KNFB can read computer screens. Did I have to put all my horrible humor in there? Yep, did you have to read it, yep, why? cause I have mind controlling powers. but only on Mondays, Thursdays and every other Saturday, it kind of sucks but oh well, what can you do. Re: Knfb reader and how great it is. This is one of those apps that look really cool, but I cannot justify spending $90 on an application without even trying it first. Despite all of the reviews, if Im going to buy it, I have to try it and see for myself. Another problem I have is that I find it difficult to put my trust in the creators of KNFB Reader that they will continue to keep the app up to date. It would be really easy for them to get all these people to buy the app, then say, well... Heres an update, but thatll be another $90, which Ive seen plenty of companies who create blindness specific software do plenty of times. Dont get me wrong, this sounds like a really cool app, especially given the amount of good reviews on it. I, personally, just cant see spending that much money on an app that I cant even try first.
