Re: transitioning from android to iPhone. Does it worth it?

Found a solution for transfering your whatsapp messages and be able to interact with them, it is called wutsapper and it is in the playstore. You will need 29 USD and an OTG cable, probably another USB to lightning too since your J6 plus has micro usb so you can't just use the cable that comes with your new phone, since that is gonna be type c to lightning. So, get a cheap otg micro usb cable, an Apple usb a to lightning cable and install this app, it works from experience, I used the demo to see if it works and it did, thought of buying it too, but I didn't like Whatsapp on ios so I restorred my backup on android and I feel like home again. The link for the app is:https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta … =USI could dig up some links for cables too if you need, just tell me what store you preffer. And in response to your earlier post, Voice dream reader is 10 bucks and it can't read with the Siri voices, but you can do it through setting a Siri voice as your default on voice over and reading with the Books app, it works beautifuly.

@59, if that worked I would have Whatsapp on ios for now just to put less stress on my already too old android phone, preserving what is left of this fake battery.I tried everything and there is an app that does it, but it is 30 US dollars, it will probably do it, but since I can't justify paying for that and don't have the funds anyway I can't exactly tell you.Just type in google play Whatsapp transfer and it is the first result, something from Wondershare.Hth.

Because people told me that backup copies of whatsapp are stored in google drive if you're android, and in iCloud if you're apple. Will I be able to do that? Re: transitioning from android to iPhone. Does it worth it?

John, I would strongly recommend that while its easy enough to transfer over that you make sure you back your contacts up as you have always done in google contacts. If you ever want to go back, well in short, I'd continue backing up data for whats app and the like to google and as much as you think you can continue to do.The reason, transfering back from iphone to android is a big fucking shitty bastard from deep hell.My dad, who has been an iphone user for a number of years did a transfer to samsung getting the s10e a couple years back.Contacts went over well enough as did emails, after all these were doublebacked up to google and icloud let it go.Messages were another issue, if a contact was on imessage, then it needed to be deleted and recreated. Some transfered contacts didn't transfer propperly and needed to be deleted and recreated.A lot of important data was lost because simply you just couldn't transfer it.Books for apple for example couldn't be transfered but music and some videos could because android reads those apple files.I was also able to convert the music in apple format and then delete the apple files from the device via itunes. But even with several malware ridden programs on the computer we couldn't transfer everything even though we have a friend that is an experienced hacker. In my view I'd stay with android, however if you are going ios, be aware that the next phone you may get will have to be an iphone because thats the only way to get your data transfered over safely. From a symbian user, its android all the way, and even if I then go iphone I will make sure that at least my contacts I create are then recreated on google so at least if I switch back I won't have a problem.

wow, interesting. It'll be quite fun, I guess. I am still waiting for the device to come in, but I'm quite excited, over all because of all the accessibility it has and all the comments I've read in here and in apple vis as well.Another question, is a 64 gb iPhone enough? Or is it better another with 128 or 256 gb of storage. I ask so because I'm quite a fan of downloading some stuff from Spotify, downloading apps to test, and also I do record lots of videos for some classes at my university. Thanks a lot for the feedback, it'll certainly make my transition less spooky.

Yes it is the side button. And about the camera thing, you will get haptic as well as spoken feedback that will help you point the camera in the right position. It will tell you if the phone is leveled, if you need to tilt left or right, and so on. All this accompanied but audio and haptic feedback.

It depends on which phone have you bought. If it is an iPhone with a home button, then tripple press it to activate Voiceover. If it isn't a phone with a home button, than tripple press the side/power button. The transition is absolutely worth it from my perspective. I bought an iPhone 12 Pro and I was using it to scan a page with the document feature of Seeing AI. I was truly surprised to find that the page had been perfectly scanned and I found no mistakes in the converted text. I was also staying at home one day and taking pictures of my family on my own. I showed then the pictures to my sister-in-law and she said most of the pictures were perfectly focused. I was really surprised at how well could I work with the camera of my phone.

Re: transitioning from android to iPhone. Does it worth it?

Hi.My iPhone is arriving in January. Do you guys recommend me any apps to work with the thing?I use voice dream to read books, text editor to write stuff on the phone, the samsung recorder to obviously record myself or ambiances, footsteps and all that fancy stuff, Spotify to listen to music and podcasts, YouTube, account to play with random bots or chat with them, the AI Dungeon thing to play and create adventures and worlds and all that jazz, and some apps that do sound and work like synthesizers or just noise makers. All of that on android. Do they have similar apps on the App Store? I guess that was what it's called. Thanks and best regards.

Re: transitioning from android to iPhone. Does it worth it?

It just depends what you're looking for. My mom and I both have the iPhone X and both phones have been paid off. The phone still runs good, and I don't plan to upgrade any time soon. When I upgrade, it will either be because Apple stops offering software updates or the phone breaks to the point where it would just be cheaper to get a new one. Anyways, if you want more customization, stick with Droid, and if you want all of your devices to be more connected, get iPhone

31, bad, bad idea. Security updates do happen for a reason, you know. If IOS is such a shit pile that people like you are scared even to update it, well...That's the 1 thing about android. If there's an update, you can bet it's for a good reason. I've never in my entire time of using it regretted an android update, nor have I felt the need to use an older version because of google's bad decisions.Oh and, say what you'd like about supernova, but they include *both* versions of vocalizer. A shame we can't get them on android, though.

Honnestly, I don't think this actually exists, probably it was just an example for the fact that you can get more sinthesizers on android than ios, but believe me, I searched for it a lot.I also searched for the old vocalizer for android, the dirrect one, not expressive, but that will probably remain just a dream.

If you go to settings, accounts, unlink everything from there, then do a factorry reset, still from settings you will be fine, it won't go to android 8, it will stay on 10 or what ever you have now.Warning, don't reset a phone without unlinking the accounts first since it could become Google locked and or Samsung locked and believe me, you don't want that.Another thing is, I can't record in stereo with my XR, no matter what I do so yeah, that is that. And another thing that might just be me, but on almost all of my old iPhones, except the 3gs, the one or more of the mics failed on me, not on this one thank God, but I won't hold my hopes up.

Re: transitioning from android to iPhone. Does it worth it?

Hi everyone. Thanks all for your answers, they made my head sit down for quite a bit of time. I'd say what's happening to me now.My workflow is quite slow with my j6+, especially when writing messages to people. I mean, yeah, the google keyboard improved a freaking lot, but I do not know if it is my talkback or whatever, it keeps going slow, especially if I have 200 or more messages on a chat, lets say on WhatsApp.Also, the main reason, the compatibility. My phone keeps refusing to link with my Mac, and it is quite nasty, because I do use the phone to record instruments, ambiences, sounds, footsteps and all that jazz. But if they do not link, I was forced to use one drive, and the process of uploading stuff from my phone, then turning the damned Mac on, opening one drive and downloading something like 30 Gb or such, is quite a pain.About the stereo microphones on the iPhones, really? Oh my gosh. I mean, if the microphones on the iPhone are so freaking great, I do not imagine how does it feel when recording stereo with the thing. It makes me want it to buy it even more. And one last thing, this is about giving the phone to my mama. How do I delete all my stuff from the thing? I don't want to restore it, because it will fell down to android 8 and my mom hates that particular version, I don't know why. I only want my data to be deleted from it, my account unlinked, my apps uninstall and to give my mama a fresh phone with all the things working. Thanks a lot, I'll tell you guys my decision next time I come in.

@22From the iPhone XR /iPad Pro 2018 onwards, you have stereo mics on said devices. Since iOS 14 onwards, you can now make Audio Stereo Recordings, instead of using the camera. Warning! The only apps known at this time which have enabled said capability however, include:Just press recordRecorderHQ ProAlon DictaphoneFerrite Recording StudioNB. Apple's own Memos app (at this time), nor Backpack Studio, support stereo audio recording via the internal mics.

Re: transitioning from android to iPhone. Does it worth it?

Hello,I've been using Android for a few years now, and I honestly don't regret it at all. Ever since I discovered Commentary Screenreader, I like Android even more.I tried Samsung - I do not recommend it for several reasons. I recommend a stock Android (for example Xiaomi Mi Series, OnePlus, Pixel, etc.).The problem on iOS is that you can't use external TTS voices, but only the ones they offer you (goodbye Eloquence, eSpeak, DECtalk, etc.), you don't have a compartment for SD cards (I don't think that's a problem for so long as you buy an iPhone with more storage space and use iCloud), as far as I know you don't have stereo microphones (correct me if I'm wrong), and much more. I could spend a long time writing a list here, but I don't think that's the case.

Re: transitioning from android to iPhone. Does it worth it?

I am considder switching over to Iphone. The reason why is because, IOS receives way more software updates than android does, unless you are using the google pixel, and IOS i think is more accessible than android.Lastly, from what i've heard, the talkback braille keyboard is getting removed from samsung's 1ui3 (android 11 update). The last issue put me off, completely of samsung.I think i'll just save a lot of money, till i have enough to go and buy an Iphone. maby the Iphone SE (2020), since size does not completely msatter to me.

@1, to be honnest, I have both a stupid Samsung A50 and an iPhone XR and even that I tried hard for the last 8 months to at least make my iPhone main and the Samsung secondary, I just couldn't, at all.Everything that I can do on my Samsung, plus the microphones, plus the fact that the thing still has a headphone jack plus a lot of other stuff that I will probably post later when I actually feel like I can be coherent in my words, the iPhone just remained a pretty expensive music player and navigation system since after a year of ful on abuse, my Samsung's battery isn't reliable anymore, same with everything else on it since it took soo many drops, stepped on it, it fell off the table when charging and what ever else you can imagine. If my android had better speakers and poor thing was still fast and reliable, I think my iPhone would just sit on a shelf, me pulling it out just for the ockassional new ios game or timecrest. And I almost forgot, iPhone's official twitter client is better than the android one, at least for me, I might be the weird one though and the one who couldn't afford tweetings.

Possibly a more detailed post coming later when I'm not feeling like complete and utter shit, but sufficed to say that I've been a user of both IOS and android for quite some time, and the gap between them is almost null and void now, unless you own other apple devices and / or particular android devices and are locked into a specific ecosystem. The point about IOS having more apps for the blind is also very much false now, in fact I think we're seeing a very substantial shift the other way, particularly as regards games.

If you are a gamer, then in my opinion android is more suited to your needs because you have some great titles like RAR and town of stone.I've not used an iPhone for a few years now, but I really didn't like some of the changes of IOS 13 when it came out because of the navigation and the way you go to the home screen etc but that's just me, and I've happily stuck with android since my past 2 or so phones.

@john_weed, Android is cheeper, but samsung is quite expencive so in your case perhaps it's not.I'd say it's worth it.There's applevis.com with a huge comunity with podcasts, apps, guides, and discussions. There's a lot more apps for the blind for IOS.There's garage band, which is accessible on the phone but I'd recommend a keyboard.

transitioning from android to iPhone. Does it worth it?

Hey everyone,So yeah, as it says. I'm planning to buy myself an iPhone, concretely the iPhone 12, not the mini nor the pro or the pro max. I have an android, a samsung j6+, but the thing is not compatible in the least bit with my Mac and I do record a lot with the damned thingy. What do I need to take in consideration? Does it Wirth it? Or do I stay with android and meh.Thanks.

So I was in the playroom on my samsung earlier, and the sound doesnt cut out mid game anymore like it used to on my old phone, which I think is narly! It's been a while since I sat down for a tubular time of battleship, but it was totally radical, even though the CPU was laying a wicked beating on me! The updates thing doesn't really bother me much honestly, although granted I didn't really feel the need to get the latest and shiniest iOS updates either, always waited until the bugs were ironed out, because there were always some. The nice thing about assistant over talkback though... assistant has the magic tap gesture too like VO does. Also a largely pointless thing, but glad my phone started on android 7, just for android neko which unfortunately was removed for 8, and the new easter egg isn't even all that cool.

Re: android or Iphone?

@74: Thanks for the info. I guess thats yet another thing I would have to report to OnePlus. Oxygen OS is a pretty cool Android rom (at least I think so), problem is you can really tell it wasn't developed with accessibiliity in mind, though it's definitely usable. Still I shall ask if they can do something about it.Also, an assistive tech trainer asked me about using the accessibility shortcut on her phone, and while we were at it we checked Talkback settings and the rotor, which is probably called the selector, didn't appear. She had the last Talkback version but her Huawei P10 Lite is still running on Android 7.1 Nougât. So, not only does the selector require a fingerprint sensor, it may only be available on Oreo.@72: I never had a Samsung but despite all the features they brought in terms of accessibility, I don't really consider getting one, for the same reasons you mentionned.

Hmmm, well I've never liked Eloquence (their uk accent is pretty horrid), so the Siri voice on my Iphone is fine for me . I'd still be vaguely interested to have a poke around with an Android device just for the sake of experience, but  at Christmas I bought an Iphone 8 and am not regretting it at all, especially with yet more awesome games out like Land of Livia, and I'm afraid once more I did not consider Android at all, despite the fact that  I still believe Itunes to be the spawn of Satan and  would much rather use my victor stream than my Iphone for  playing books and music. There have been a few more  android related aps and games in the past few years, but not enough to make it a viable alternative platform, also  Nocturnus isn't the first person to mention that accessibility, especially due to the large percentage of phone systems and pre installed  still isn't precisely ideal out of the box these days.Though one interesting factor in this is  Alexa, since Alexa is proving a rather nice expanding new platform for audio stuff, and I did get the idea Google assistant can run alexa skills where siri manifestly can't, though by the same token the Alexa ap is available for both Ios and Android anyway, though when I last checked vo access in the Ios version was a bit wiffy as  compared to the web application.

Re: android or Iphone?

so would I, and ideally Android would not require me to be a pen and paper artist in the process.  In an ideal world, I'd have a phone with iOS that could bypass all of Apple's sandboxing, could use eloquence by default, would have google's search functionality, would pair seamlessly with my windows PC and allow me to remotely control it if necessary or at the very least, remotely push information to it.  I had a lot of hope for MS and windows phones, but it all came to nothing. As it stands, thanks to nerve damage, my dexterity is not what I'd like it to be, Android is not forgiving of that, and iOS is more interested in doing for me rather than me having to do for it, so iOS it is.  I've said it many times and I'll say it again; if you want a system that will allow you to be a power user, you're going to be a droid user.  If you want a system that will do for you while essentially holding your hand, you'll go with iOS.  Sadly, I need the hand holding, because my hands are useless on touchscreens.

Re: android or Iphone?

I'm OK with how Android's accessibility is for now, but I think both Voice Assistant and VoiceOver allow you to perform some actions more fluidly than Talkback. I like what Talkback brought recently, but things such as shaking the phone for the "say all" command and using a dedicated menu to read all from a certain part of the screen really isn't the best in my opinion.Just to say how desperate they are about not using multitouch  gesture, they recently included something like the rotor in VoiceOver, but if you don't have a fingerprint sensor you can't use it. Thankfully these sensors are more and more common...Also, I don't know if someone reported it on Eyes-Free as of yet, but no matter which Talkback gesture is set to simulate the Home button it doesn't work. That might have to do with my device but I don't know. I'll have to report that myself eventually.
