Re: two new releases

Come on man. I'm so sick of seeing new release topics without descriptions. I immediately don't want to download your game because if you created it, and you're not effortful or creative enough to write it a description, then I don't know if you're effortful or creative enough to make a good game. Also -- though I'm not against releasing betas, look at Crazy Party and games in the past like Redspot, those were betas for a while or at least not yet version 1.0 -- they turned out well. So many games though these days seem to get released without much content in them (very little developed). It can't be that hard to get a beta team. I'm abnormally paranoid, notably reclusive amongst the community, yet I have a 10 member beta team.Take these little steps if you want positive responses, instead of "what the hell" and "yeah... no."

This was mainly criticism. And, now, here is my insight as a blind person. I've realised that us blind people tend to sugar coat everything. Not all of us, but a good chunk of us. That's not good. Re: two new releases

Hi, well after playing the boating game, and reading the general direction this thread is going, it seems like you're practicing code in a new language. So games like these should be put in the dev room after all, especially since the code is visible which allows other devs to look at and comment on it. It would be cool if you started doing some audio games, the boating game isn't actually an arcade game since there's no fast-paced action gameplay going on (at least in the normal arcady sense of the word). I do play browser based  games, but if you're going to make a game where you handle a boat and shoot ducks, it would do better as an audiogame with sounds and realtime controls, and I, among others, would prefer it that way.

Yes, I was talking about the post, not the code as I cannot know whether you took 10 minutes or 10 days to coad your game. However, you destroy your credibility by making a decision to release something, even a day does not pass and you realize it is not worth releasing just yet. Why not use that day to do last minute testing by yourself?

Re: two new releases

Hello. To clear up something important, I am not criticizing his coding, what games he is developing, and how good of a concept they are. I am well aware that a beginner is not supposed to make the next big thing as his first few projects. See, however, even he said himself that he is rushing things. Don't do that, you are just causing yourself unnecessary criticisms.  It's much better to say something like, hey guys. I'm in the process of trying out a new programming language I have just picked up, so I want some feedback on how these games work on your systems. The first game is a simple additions game, allowing you to practice and improve your math skills. The second game is an arcade game in which you paddle around in a canoe, killing the evil ducks. Note that these games are beta, and I am planning to release a small patch later today making them more stable. There you go, a new release post taking less than 5 minutes to write and encouraging me to try the game out and give feedback. That's not really hard to do, and is certainly 100 times easier then coding the games themselves. When it comes to concepts, I do think the community needs to chill a bit and stop expecting big projects every time somebody new starts programming. I totally get we lack big games to play, but that's just impossible for a newbie. However, if you give feedback when it is requested, it could very well become possible in a few years. I only hate not showing any effort to describe your project, and not the concept itself which is a great beginner excersise. Also, do use internal testing a bit more, and everything will  get less criticism.

Rest assured I wouldn't have done it if I didn't know that learning sb wouldn't be too different to pb. So there'll still be pb stuff from me, just those two are sb. I will edit OP to reflect some new changes. Also, can I point out that I did put a link? It's at the bottom, the rorygames's website one will in fact take you to my website where you can read on how the game works, without a direct download link so you don't have to download it and then it be just taking up useless space because you didn't like it in the end. Also, the stable patch, 1.1461 is here, for canoeing.

How could someone release a game like Manamon and not be ashamed when they see this?By the way, the rpg elements in blind addition are also amazing! Great character customization, scoring kept in the cloud with username, email login, a great privacy policy... All in all a very good game! Congratulations!

If this were advertising an unaughtherized fork, or made by someone who has an actually damaging history, I would understand your anger. But this is just plane ridiculous. Yes, I agree, the abscense of links or descriptions in the OP isn't exactly selling the games here. But there *are* descriptions on the website, and especially to @4, I see nothing wrong with them. The games are simple in nature, so obviously there's not much to say about them. May I also mention that swamp didn't have a description on aprone's main site for years, until it went payed and he finally added one? Yeah I bedt nobody remembers that.I also agree to the beta thing only to a very limited extent. As long as the beta isn't actually an alpha with the wrong designation, or a concept demo that's unplayable because of unfinished code or game breaking bugs, then sure, chuck it in the dev room and leave new releases for games that are supposed to be for the non-coder public.  But I will also take this oportunity to remind you that almost all of aprone's games, battle zone, crazy party (which is still officially in beta by the way), and lots of other landmark titles would never have gotten anywhere without the early access feedback they received. aprone would never have gotten as far as he did with swamp, if people hadn't shown the interest they did once he uploaded v0.1. Player feedback is the very reason a multiplayer mode was added in the first place. I am not a mod, but if I were, I would at least caution post 5.Now, @rory. I haven't actually played the games yet as I'm not at home yet, but I'm going to give some pointers based on what I've seen so far. The addition game might serve more of a dev room purposs. Now, you could always expand it in to a thing sort of like brain station, where you have logic and math challenges, possibly with some extra features. This would be a game fit for new releases. The boating game sounds like a fun little arcade passtime, and since it's only in beta, it always has the potential for expantion. In a few years, it could be a full multiplayer pirate simulation where you lead your crew of chicken pirates on your mighty gallion, raiding happless seagull merchants for lots of gold bullian and rum, escaping the royal hawk fleet and laying waste to those skervy dog ducks in giant, avian sea battles! Yar!

Player feedback is the very reason a multiplayer mode was added with the game. I am not a mod, but if I were, I would at least caution post 5.Now, @rory. I haven't actually played the games yet as I'm not at home yet, but I'm going to give some pointers based fon what I've saw so far. The addition game might serve more of a dev room purposs. Now, you could always expand itin to a thing sort of like brain station, where you havelogic and math challenges, possibly with some extra features. Thsi would be a game fit for new releases. The boating game sounds like a fun little arcade passtime, and since it's only in beta. It always has the potential for expantion. In a few years, it could be a full multiplayer pirate simulation where you lead your group of chicken pirates on your mighty gallion, raiding happless seagull merchants, escaping the royal hawk fleet and laying waste to those skervy dog ducks in giant, avian sea battles!

@5 well, you release betas to check how people like stuff. The thing is if you don't you run on risc to be bashed for making a game that is not liked by anyone. But even if you release betas you are not safe, see why so many games never got out of beta stage?@rory: I aggree with most people here. I at most point aggree with posting betas. How ever you just switched the coding lang for the 2nd or 3rd time and always you push out stuff when you don't really know the language and are so limited in activities. That is something you don't want to do. Why you even went away from pb? Just askin.

Re: two new releases

You can't get angry with him releasing an early bayta with bugs. Apple does it, but the thing is, he didn't even link to it, and his overselling of the game. Rory, in your time in this comunity, you should know to at least slap the link to your website in your OP. By the sounds of this, I can see why you would get angry. It sounds like something a newbie programmer would programme for practice. Not to be released as a new game. These little stuff should go in Dev's room. That room was also made for Baytas you know?

Just give it a try, you'll soon change your mind. extract the file and open blindaddition4.html to start playing! canoeing - a game of .. what the hell? This little comedic game is just for fun; you paddle around in a canoe, killing the evil ducks. Re: Two new releases from choiceofgames

Well Grryf it the games are possible to buy online and play in a browser of your choice that is awsome and will be of help to lots of people who dont want to tangle with chrome or have an Iphone.Could you let people know how this works? is there an account system? As regards games generally, I think as they said in the announcement that they sometimes put games on their site before theyre available in ios etc when theyre beta testing, then make the formal announcements to the mailing list and what not when all the bugs are knocked out.I have certainly noticed that their demos are pretty liniar which is another reason I tend to prefer actually buying the games on Ios myself if I want to play them, for example if I remember rightly in the demo of choice of the star captain only the miliary career is open to you, where as in the full game you can go and work for the military, become a hauler or try crime, though Ive not tried those t
wo alternatives yet. Actually i need to play more of the choiceof games generally sinse there is loads of good stuff I just havent tried yet.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=173910#p173910

Two new releases from choiceofgames

I got this today from choiceofgames. I dont know if either of these are more my genre so Ill probably try other of the choiceofgames first, indeed there are many I havent played, but still their stuff is generally pretty good even in different genres. Download NOLA Is Burning and Choice of the Rock Star today for iOS, Android, or the Chrome Web Store for Windows, OS X, and Linux. Is this email not displaying correctly?View it in your browser. Choice of GamesToday, Choice of Games is proud to announce two new games. First, NOLA Is Burning, the latest in our popular “Choice of Games” line of multiple-choice interactive-fiction games, is now available for iOS, Android, and, via the Chrome Web Store, Windows, OS X, and Linux.Second, we’re announcing that Choice of the Rock Star is now available for iOS, Android, and the Chrome Web Store.NOLA Is BurningNOLA Is Burning: A blood-soaked New Orleans noir thriller!Your boss, The Bull, the most dangerous gangster in New Orleans, has a job for you. Rescue your kidnapped lover–officially The Bull’s lover, but unofficially yours–before dawn. Slaughter everyone who stands in your way, including other gangsters, cops, and the Triad, as you slink across the underbelly of New Orleans.NOLA Is Burning is a blood-soaked interactive noir thriller where your choices control the story. The game is entirely text-based–without graphics or sound effects–and powered by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination. Will you outwit your enemies or take it to the mattresses with your trusty sawtooth? Will you earn respect as NOLA’s most infamous headcrusher, or will you retire to Mexico on a huge pile of cash? To be honest, you’ll probably die. But in NOLA, death is just the beginning. Your character, your choice: play as a man or a woman, straight or gay! Make deals with the cops, a Voodoo priestess, the leader of the local Triad, or a fallen priest. Mix old world magic and advanced technology in a fight to the death, and beyond. More than 70,000 words of interactive fiction, 15,000 words on every run through the game. Choice of the Rock StarChoice of the Rock Star: Rock your way to the top of the ’80s charts!Rock your way to the top of the ’80s charts in this interactive tale of music and mayhem! But beware, mischievous managers, fickle fans, and gossiping groupies stand between you and rock immortality. Will your band tear itself apart? Will you flame out on national television? Or will you build a legacy that stands the test of time?Choice of the Rock Star has been unofficially available for a while now, but it’s an extremely complex game with many different paths to success, so it took us a little while to shake out all of the bugs. We think it’s in ship shape, now, and ready for you to rock out. Please Spread the WordWe hope you enjoy playing NOLA Is Burning and Choice of the Rock Star. We encourage you to tell your friends about them, and recommend our games on StumbleUpon, Facebook, Twitter, and other sites. Don’t forget: our initial download rate determines our ranking on the App Store. Basically, the more times you download in the first week, the better our games will rank.Postscript: Way Walkers: Tangled PathsJ. Leigh, author of Way Walkers: University and Way Walkers: University 2, has written a novel, Way Walkers: Tangled Paths, published by Red Adept Publishing. You can buy it in paperback or as an ebook from Amazon, Barnes Noble, Kobo, or the iBookstore.Twelve Ways create a thousand tangled paths.Hatched from an egg but unable to shift into dragon form, Jathen is a moot among the Tazu. His rightful throne is forbidden him because of his transformative handicap, and neither his culture nor his religion offer acceptance of his supposed flaws. Driven by wounded anger, Jathen strikes out across the vast world beyond Tazu borders, desperate to find a place where he feels accepted and whole.Though he travels with the most trusted of companions, sabotage and conspiracy soon strike his quest. Jathen and his allies must struggle against man and magic alike, at the mercy of forces beyond their ken.As Jathen presses further from everything he once knew, his questions of belonging are surrounded by those of identity, loyalty, and betrayal.
