A clean install is what I plan to do if nothing else works. the problem is the product key, as I mentioned before.

I agree with the previous poster. YOur best bet might be to do a clean install of 7. Save any important data you can't get back like school or other important documents and wipe your drive with one of the Talking PE disks. After that, just install 7
