This is a network operators list for discussion of network operations, not HR
related material. This entire thread is outside the charter, and to continue

If you think that issues of sexual harassment and assault are purely HR
matters, you're part of the problem.

To say "everyone knows it's wrong" belies the fact that sexual harassment
is endemic in this industry, and I see no reason to suggest other than
Ausnog membership is representative of the industry. When these issues
can't be discussed, it perpetuates such misunderstandings as:

Hi guys,
I will preface my comment with:
I haven't been to any IT events for a year or so, but I doubt things have
changed that much in this amount of time.
Ok, that said...
I used to go along to supplier lead launches where a lot of different vendors
would come and display their shiney new toy

Sometimes it helps to have something to point to when members forget that the
correct response to this is "take action" rather than "stop discussion".

ITPA has a Code of Ethics that we inherited from SAGE-AU - we expect all
members to abide by it, irrespective of where they may be.

It was written back in the 1990s, and has stood the test of time:

CoC, T&C's, charters etc are words on paper. There's other words on
bits of paper, that hold more weight than anything we say or do here,
yet are still ignored.
If people aren't afraid to outright break the law, then a simple CoC
(which basically affirms common decency) wont do much to help.
From Bevan's initial email, it appears so. If you've got a better
suggestion, I'm sure we're all open to hearing it?
LCA's CoC isn't limited to issues of a sexual nature however: TL;DR
they just want everyone to have a good time at their events.

Looking at the AusNOG website, and the AusNOG 2018 conference sites -
they appear, through my cursory look, to be devoid of a code of
conduct, or similar. Perhaps, as a community, a good start would be

Hi Christian,
I don't know you and I don't remember meeting you at an AusNOG. But you've
got my attention now.
Your email to Bevan copying the list was possibly the least appropriate
response possible. You want him to out his staff that have been harassed,
because you don't believe him.

Jesus It is nearly 2019, we are (should be) better than this. It's hard
enough to balance the tech industry as a whole, so more power to rubbing
out the troublemakers causing this trouble. Everyone should have the right
to be safe from harassment when doing their jobs.

Hi everyone,
I am writing this email to everyone here because there is a problem within our
industry and it needs to end.
Last week at a strategy off-site for one of my businesses we were speaking to a
new (young female) starter about possibly coming to PTC this yea
